  • This video is about Amazon 90DM600 vs Fluke 179 Multimeter. I'll compare this Amazon Commercial 90DM600 Multimeter to the Fluke 79 series. It is 6000 counts, True RMS, VFD, with Min/Max and Relative mode. It is independently tested and under $90. #Fluke179 #Flukemultimeter
    Amazon Commercial 90DM610 is out now and seems to be an improved version over the 90DM600 as it has added temperature reading. The price on Amazon today is $42.80. I paid $35.40 for my 90DM600 but the price has gone up quite a bit - I assume because it is being replaced by the 90DM610.

    Thank you for this review! I like how careful and thorough you are, and the way you compare meters to help the one being reviewed make sense for the viewer! I wonder how this compares to the 90DM610, which seems to be on sale for $43 right now?

      Robin Nesting Great find! I have a link to that one below instead of the 600. The 600 has almost doubled in price since I bought it. My guess is that the 610 is replacing it. It is almost $10 more than what I paid for the 600. The 600 added another selection on the dial for temperature. Thanks for the support!

    Very useful vid, tvm. Just bought one of these off Amazon for £35 on a special deal, arrives tomorrow. Thing is, despite searching specifically for Amazon dmm's, here in the uk nothing appears! It was whilst browsing other dmm's that I found them, but only 2 types, not the full Amazon range! It's like Amazon dont want them to be found! At the price I paid it is incredible value for money, I am very impressed by the build quality and features shown very well in your vid. I like Flukes and have a number of them but with what is appearing on the market now they will certainly need to up their game. Particularly with basic stuff like back lights, test lead quality and features.

    As Robin Nesting says, your reviews are particular great and I do clearly feel that you don't care if it's a main brand or not, every unit have to prove itself! I do also like that you set the bar after the prize, a cheap meter do get "allowed" to jump over some places but still not to much.
    I have seen reviews where a cheap product got annihilated because it was missing this and that, compared to an other product (main brand costing about 35 times as much), in short you got the impression that the cheap unit was totally useless and the other fantastic unit was made by the almighty gear God himself. But not all of us can afford to give 6999$ and have to look at the 199$ unit:-)

      Thank you Fried Mule! I am not paid by anyone 'yet' ;) so I can say what I want. I actually always will. Otherwise, it is obvious that I am biased. I must admit, I've been a Fluke and Tektronix guy forever - because I use it at work - because that's what they buy by default - because everyone just keeps marching down the same road. Too busy with their own work to wonder if there is a better product. Also the rental/lease houses rarely carry anything else. Years ago I had a lab manager buy me a GW Instek milliohm meter and I was a bit embarrassed - because generally these things from the big names cost 10 times as much - but years later it is still working just fine. I've really been impressed what you can get for your hard earned cash. Also, I see other viewers saying 'this is fine for dc but not ac' and that's a bunch of crap to be honest. Otherwise we would be hearing all kinds of stories about injuries. Anyone working in high energy (not high voltage) knows what to look for. This meter is tested by a third party test lab - so that builds lots of confidence. Thanks again...;)

    For less than $100 dollars, it has some of the best input protection that I have seen--better than some of the high end brands and models; however, one must keep in mind that just because it has 4 PTCs and 5 MOVs doesn't mean that it is robust: are they quality PTCs and MOVs? Are they spaced correctly to prevent creeping voltage? How many high voltage transients can it take before breaking down? But damn in theory, it sure cannot hurt. With an IP rating of 67, it has a reasonable amount of dust and water resistance. All-in-all, the Amazon 90DM600 for less than $100 may be one of the best meters for the price that an electronic technician or electrician as a field meter. I appreciate the time you took to review this meter. I have been looking at the Amazon versions for awhile now which like others believe that it is CEM renamed. From other reviews of that company, it seems that they have an above average quality control.

    These meters are rebranded CEM multimeters.
    I think the 90DM610 (with the temperature function) is a CEM-9562:
    www.cem-instruments.com/en/Product/detail/id/1434
    (strange thing is that on amazon it has the part number DT-9561, but at CEM the 9561 is a 4k count, and the 9562 is the 6k count, and this is 6k count)
    Nice review on these 👍
    There haven't been a lot of in depth multimeter reviews on youtube lately on all the big channels, and now you're treating us on 3 in a month! 👍
    Your review is way too good and meticulous for the 785 views you get now, so I hope your channel will grow exponentially very soon. Most of your content (also regarding the DSO's) is interesting enough for sure. I've learned a lot at least :)
    For what this meter offers (UL listing, decent build quality/safety) the price is insanely low.
    For electronics use you can maybe get a 9999 count meter for less with higher accuracy than 0,8% (like an aneng an8009), but not UL listed with big sand filled fuses, safety features, very rugged build etc.
    So a very interesting meter for the amateur that also wants to measure mains voltage and high energy things like motor drives etc.
    Maybe even that crazy aussie bloke would approve although I'm sure that Joe Smith would blow up this meter but at his channel it's more a question of 'when' instead of 'if' (although this meter also complies with the IEC 61010, which means it can cope with high voltage peaks up to 8kv, so for example static piezo surges)

I'm after a DMM and the Amazon DM600 looks pretty nice but then realised it refreshes display twice per second whilst most low cost DMMs in my list refresh is 3 readings/sec (HT118A, AstroAI,....). So, does 3 Vs 2 readings per second make a noticeable difference?

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for bringing this up. I notice most meters are either 2 or 3 updates per second. A few meters will actually state what the readings per second are versus the display update rate, but most just call out one number, so it's hard to tell. More seems better, but I'm not sure that you could see the difference. I think in some cases there's meters that let you slow it down so that the numbers are not flickering so much if the voltage isn't really stable. The Hioki DT4254 (DT4250 series) is in this price range and updates at 5 times a second;) Hioki will offer a discount to any of my viewers purchasing any equipment from them by using this link (use promo code: EDDIE5%01): www.hiokiusastore.com/

      Great question- thanks for bringing this up. Maybe they are counting on big sales to get the volume pricing on the manufacturing. Also, I think other vendors like fluke have continued increasing features with the big advancements in technology- but I don’t think they have lowered the cost with the lower cost of manufacturing. I think these newer vendors are re-structuring cost based on actual material cost. The company I work for automatically buys flutes regardless of cost - and I think a lot of people do this - so I don’t think Fluke is interested in competing with lower cost vendors. Even FLIR with more features and very high quality, and is a high-end equipment manufacturer is priced much better than Fluke.

What would you recommend, as i know it is not a bad price for the Fluke, but still a bit more than i was thinking to spend. It really is a CEM, but it looks to be made to a spec for Amazon as I can't find the Amazon series at CEM. The Amazon series looks like they offer better functionality for the price. Very well built. Here's a link to the new 90DM610 that offers temp readings too: amzn.to/37WSX80

      @@KissAnalog Look at the CEM DT-9562 with 6000 counts. Another "hint": look at Amazons "Part Number": DT-9560, they just took CEM's model numbers as part numbers.. ^^ But yes, the specs may vary, CEM is a big OEM, you can find their meters under several brands all over the world. They used to make those horrible Extech meters. I have an EX520, it was DOA but repairable - a MOV was broken off.. I wouldn't trust them, for mains voltage and above take a Gossen (aka Dranetz in US), Fluke, Sanwa or Agilent.

    Unless i'm wrong, i can see on the Amazon specs for the 90DM610 it has only a 200µF max range for capacitors 😱... Well, not for electronic jobs then 😖

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  3 роки тому

      Thanks for bringing this up:) I reviewed the 90DM600 in this video and it is rated for 99.99mF, so barely short of 100,000 uF. From what I understood, the 90DM610 added temperature reading, but I thought all other specs were the same. But I see in the table below that it shows 200 uF. The comparison table for the 90DM600 shows both having 99.99 mf. So, confusing - which is correct? I actually bought a 90DM610, so I'll test it in a review coming up shortly. We will get to the bottom of this;)

      @@KissAnalog Thank you very much for your kind and quick answer, very nice of you 🤩. I'm very curious about this discrepancy between the comparison table and what the amazon specs states. And btw, your video is fine but i'm bit dissapointed you're testing a very few range about capacitances. I'm not mean to offend you though 🙄, thank you very much, take care and have a good day 😎!

      Thanks - and no offense taken;) It is a great question. I see others testing multiple capacitors, and to what end - to show that it can;) I try to show the lower capacitance range and then the higher capacitance range. I don't always have the best capacitor to test the extreme ends, but I want to show that it can test say 100 pF if it can go that low, and then say 30,000 uF if it can go that high. Some can test high capacitance, but not go very low, and visa versa. Does that make sense? I'm still trying to learn what best way to review a meter;)

    I've got a Fluke 87V bought brand new back in 2016 and for the price it's overrated and overpriced. I also have the somewhat less expensive Fluke 115 but it's also overrated. Fluke is way behind in LCD technology for their DMM displays. The fact is that today, in 2021, you can get a quality DMM (this one is even IP67 certified!) from China which is as good as a Fluke costing many hundreds of dollars more. Just to get a soft carrying case for their DMMs from Fluke is also ridiculously expensive. Not to mention that you get cheap ass vinyl leads, not quality silicone ones, with Fluke DMMs. Thanks for showing us this very affordable model.

      Thank you! I am with you. The leads should be better than average for any Fluke, but IMHO they run with the worst on the market! Also the Fluke displays are, at best, average IMHO - ok they are crap for the price of the meter!

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you that CEM makes the Amazon meter, but I don't see the Amazon models sold by CEM, so I think they are built to a spec for Amazon.
      I used to be a big Fluke fan, but in my opinion, I think they are overpriced and need an update. But I am wondering why you feel that Fluke is better than the Amazon 90DM600? The Amazon meter is 3rd party tested, and has more features at 1/6 the price of the Fluke. The Amazon meter today is $50 (amzn.to/35HYDyi) and the Fluke today is on sale for $306. In my opinion the Amazon is the no brainer even at the same price.
      I think the Amazon is more rugged, it has an IP (ingress protection) rating of 67 which is awesome, and I don't even think the latest version of the 179 has an IP rating. This is big for electricians that might work outdoors or in certain dusty environments. Also, the 90DM600 seems equally or even more robustly made, better display, and has more functionality. It can read up to 99.99mF where the Fluke is only 10mF. It has a higher voltage reading for diodes of 3.3 V versus the 2.7 V from the Fluke. Plus it as a microAmp mode and has the VFD (variable Frequency Drive) filter that is good to get better more accurate readings from dirty power. The upgraded 90DM610 has temperature and is less than $63 (amzn.to/3qhupf9), so with this meter the Fluke is beat in every place. IMHO;)

    Those kind of reviews has no meaning to professionals! The only true reason I could see is the use of cheepy meters in a controlled workshop enviroment and not for professional use. The only cheap meter that could be a comparison to Fluke, Keysight, Chauvin Arnoux, Gossen Metravat, Hioki etc is the Brymen (some models). It is not a good thing to consider that technicians, specialists, engineers etc are dumb and like to spend money for nothing.

    • @KissAnalog

      Thanks for you great Feedback, I agree with those brands that you show, but I have to say that this Amazon Commercial meter line is quite good and has a robust design that is every bit as good as a Fluke at double the price. They also come with 3rd party safety testing - and that is what the professional market would look for. So, don't be surprised if you start seeing more of these. Although, Amazon doesn't seem to spend any money to market them. I suppose they think the quality will speak for itself and they will do fine without marketing.
