Once the crab grass gets that big and that dense you basically have to chalk it up as a loss until next season when you can get down some preemergent. When you kill fully mature crab grass it just turns brown and then is brown the whole rest of the year.

I've been in your shoes, spent a lot of money and was like pissing in the wind. You need to just leave it and start in the fall. New Seed, Aerate, then apply your pre-emergent for crabgrass in the early spring even before they say to prevent the crabgrass from coming up. Oh and lots of Milorganite. Thats what I did, and although I have weeds, I do not have any crabgrass and plenty of fescue. Working on the clover and some other weeds now with what you just used.

  • @asolano

I think crab grass "control" means it slows it's growth down. So if I'm not mistaken you need to apply it when they are starting to come up to allow the desirable grasses to get ahead an choke it off.

  • @joespanojr

  • @tomn5880
    @tomn5880 4 роки тому +11

Just a word of caution: What you called "crabgrass" look more like goose grass. To kill crabgrass you need a pre-emergent germination blocker with Dythyoper or similar chemical and apply it about the time the forsythia blooms and way before lilacs budd. I have been doing this for years and I have a weed free lawn.

They have web b gon you can hook up to the water hose, works very good, also before you use that weed killer, cut grass with the lowest setting on your lawnmower that way you get the most out of the weed killer, easier to kill a half inch weed than a 2 inch weed, so cutting the grass on the lowest setting on your lawnmower before you lay down your weed killer helps a lot.

It will take more than a week, many people think that it doesn't work because it doesn't get everything within one week. Several of them are going to take up to four and five weeks. But one little trick. Can also do, add a little bit of dish detergent! This will allow the chemical to stick to the grass longer. There is other chemicals that will do this that you can purchase that cost more, but everybody has some dish detergent under their sink I'm sure.

I soak the leaves. Fine mist makes more droplets. Within 24 hrs they looked bad and 2-3 days later they shriveled to the point that you can't really find them.
I overseeded and have Scotts Green Max for fertilizer. This way the dark spots don't really show. Dark spots from clusters of weeds you killed or if you soak the grass it can develop dark spots from the Weed B-Gon Max.
My grass is so dense from the overseeding (2 x in the last 2 months) dethatching and aerating.
Now I'm going to hit it with starter fertilizer and mow high. The weeds that try to come to my lawn will not be able to germinate because their seeds cannot touch soil and nay that try to make a comeback will have no sunlight.
The creeping fescue will fill any patches.

One house that I owned quite a while ago was in a neighborhood that was a haven for dandelions. The yards were full of them. I used Weed B Gon about 2 or 3 times a year in my yard and I didn't have a single weed while the neighbor's yard looked like a showcase for dandelions.
The house after that I had a thistle problem. I just dug those up as weed killer didn't seem to work on them.
The house after that was pretty much weed-free but it was in the middle of nowhere.
My current house has a minor dandelion issue, moderate clover issue, and a moderate crabgrass issue. So far the crabgrass control from Scotts didn't work. I just fertilized so I have to wait about 30 days before I can use the Weed B Gon. But I'm pretty confident that it will work.

Best solution for killing weeds? Thick, dense grass! Mow your grass high! 3-3.5”. It will look so much better.
If you start a “weed war” in late summer, then just wait until September and kill the weeds to the dirt with a string trimmer, then dethatch and rake the lawn. After that, sow lots of grass seed and water it a couple of hours a day. You’ll notice a difference in a few weeks, and be amazed in the spring!

Add dish soap to the sprayer, not much just a squeeze or two. It will bond the weed b gone to the weeds leaf.

You read instructions,,, and POURED a pint or more to a gallon??? Glad it helped. Use of "sticker" or dish soap to help plant absorb. Also a "marker" solution to enable you to see where you are spot spraying. The BIGGEST help would definitely be the use of a pre-emergent such as barricade before ground temps reach 55. Some plants germinate in early fall so if you have any of those, pre-emerge in September, but not if you plan to over seed. Good luck.

If you have ever sprayed your lawn before just go to minute 7 to get to the answer.

I’ve tried on weed and feed fertilizer to spreads.
Those stuffs can definitely killed on dandelions.

Not a sight of yellow flower after I used it. 👍🏻 hope that’ll help you.
But do weedeaters and mows first then spread it next day. If weed plant is too big for your weedeater, use a branch cutter.

Awesome edit and music! Sorry you didn't get better results with all that work. Feel ur pain. Seems like a broad pellet weed killer would have been easier and then touch up areas after 2 weeks with a spray.

That weed with the white flower is Virginia Buttonweed, one nasty invader. Each of those flowers drops 2 seeds that 100% germination. Not only that, it is a perennial with a crazy strong root system.

Dude. Dont let that stuff touch your skin in any way. Wear long gloves. Rinse the crap off of the sprayer before you start so it doesn't get on you. Dont touch your face or any exposed skin with the gloves. Take a shower when your done and wash your shoes, better to wear boots.

Is this safe for an organic garden? I’m looking to apply this into my vegetable and flower garden. I’ve read the back label it has a lot of warnings to avoided contact with skin, eyes, clothing, it even says do not breath this stuff into your lungs. So can anyone confirm if this is safe for my edible garden plants? 🙏
