    Hi Everyone! I decided to take a more project-based approach to this tutorial. I'm planning to do more examples of this in the future...showing how to design graphics for various real-world items. Let me know what you think! - Trent

      I really like your tutorials. Many technical areas explained, but very lively with interesting, useable and inspiring examples. What you mean by "real-world items", I do not really understand. All your tutorials I know seamed so.

    I am new to AFFINITY family, and this video has been super useful, I am so glad that such advanced export features exist in Affinity Designer, I was thinking that these exist in CorelDraw only, but this is way nicer and easier to control. Thank you, I have been watching your videos about an hour so, they all are so useful and straight to the point. Thanks a lot for the great work you have been doing and sharing with us. All the best!

    What all these videos that are talking about how to use Artboards don't mention, is when you choose the Export Persona tab all your sizes change from Design Mode. For example if you have an image that is 1185x54 when you switch to Export Persona, the image becomes 1186x55 which means you would have to go through every image and fix the sizes before it can be exported correctly to the real size you want.

      Hi @soultakerspirit3121, yes, that is something I noticed later on and it is annoying. There is a discussion about it in this thread:

      @@TechnicallyTrent maybe when you do another exporting video you could explain how to fix this. Alot of people will hurt their eyes reading before getting to the fix and some people also won't be able to read due to like bad eye sight lol.

    Amazing! Just what I was looking for! One problem I had was following along the last part when you explained the slices....I could not find some of those buttons on the Ipad version of Affinity. Hmm...Will you do an Ipad version..haha? Anyway, the setting up of artboards is what I have been looking for. I am pretty new to your channel so I haven't seen all your vids. I was searching all night on youtube for this topic and couldn't find anything. Glad I decided to look watch your latest video and as I scrolled through all your listed videos BAM this video was there. Haha Thank you so much!

    This was great info. Trent can I ask going forward if you note what Version of Affinity you are working in or if it is for 1 or 2. I'm still in version 1. I just started using artboards and can use in almost all my designs. This will save me so much time. Thank you

    Excellent tutorial! Quick question... how would you import 500+ .png files into 500 separate Artboards? Been looking and so far, the only way I've found is to do it manually.

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi Larry, thanks for the question. Unfortunately, I do not think that is possible. I also have a need to do something similar to that, and it is kind of a pain. My wish is to be able to import a bunch of PNGs with 1-click and have them auto-sorted into a grid. But I don't know if it is possible yet.

    • @larryseyer
      @larryseyer 4 місяці тому

      @@TechnicallyTrent That's exactly what I want to do also. I want to import about 500 .png files, each into their own Artboard, so I can easily update and export a bunch of icons for a program I create graphics for. I can do it manually, but it takes forever. This is something that Affinity should add IMHO.

  • @carefulplants
    @carefulplants 6 місяців тому +1

    kind of unrelated to the topic... When I grab a page of assets like you have here affinity arranges their layers in strange ways. Is there any way I can grab a single vector image as if I were using the lasso select in adobe illustrator? Its a huge mess when I try to select a single item off a page like you just showed here. Great video BTW!

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  6 місяців тому

      Hi @carefulplants, I looked into this and unfortunately I don't think there is a lasso tool for vector selections.
      I actually struggle with this issue, too. Sometimes I get a file with a ton of vectors in it and it is a pain to select just 1 in the middle. Usually what I do is drag around the object I want to select, which also may select some other objects. Then I copy-and-paste them into a side area and delete the extra objects. Hope this helps!

      @carefulplants 6 місяців тому +1

      @@TechnicallyTrent Pretty much what I resorted to as well, I was hoping there might be another way.
      I got excited watching this and thinking a workaround could be drawing an artboard around the object. lol

    ...but how to set output images resolutions? it's useless for me without resolution settings

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  7 місяців тому

      Hi @jerzyhaa, In the Export Persona, in the Slices tab, the output resolution is going to be determined by the size options that say things like 1x, 2x, 3x, etc... This will multiply your document's resolution by these settings. I've linked to some more details below (when I post link in youtube it doesn't load with the images, but you can google "Affinity Designer Export Persona" to find that page). Hope this helps!
      affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/ExportPersona/exportPersona.html

    • @jerzyhaa
      @jerzyhaa 6 місяців тому

      @@TechnicallyTrent In AD, which is a vector program, you don't work on resolutions, so this conversion rate resolution * multiplier works completely unintuitive. But thanks to you I discovered that when I specify the size as 900w for example, it generates an image with a width of 900px and a height depending on the aspect ratio, I missed that! Thanks a lot for your answer

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  6 місяців тому

      @@jerzyhaa Glad you got it working!
      True, vectors do not have resolution. So when working in Affinity Designer, you can scale vectors infinitely. However, when you export to PNG/JPGs, then the program will need to use something to determine resolution.
      You can see the resolution by choosing File->Document Setup and looking at the Dimensions tab. It will show you the resolution it will export at for 1x. If it is pixels, that is what it will be. If it is inches, it will output to Inches*DPI.
      Hope this helps and best of luck with Affinity Designer :)

    affinity designer have pasteboard potion?

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  Рік тому +1

      Hi mtm! Not sure exactly what you mean by "pasteboard", but you can see things outside of the canvas by going to View : View Mode : Clip To Canvas (hotkey /). I use it all the time! It works with artboards, but if an object is overlapping the inside and outside of an artboard, the outside part will be clipped.
