Hello!! Can I use any kind of carpet runner or is there something specific I should be looking for? Also, you made that look easy! Thanks for the help!!
The carpet that I use in my videos are carpets made specifically for carpet installation in homes such as stairs and rooms, this way it’s made for this purpose and it’s pretty install friendly as far as stair runners are concerned! That being said, people use all kinds of different things for stair runners that I do not recommend! They can be dangerous as they may move around on the stair! If your looking for a particular stair runner we do have make custom stair runners for the DIYer that we ship all over North America And have many success stories, if your interested drop me a message keith@directcarpet.ca or just respond here in this thread!
You rock Keith, keep doing what you do & rock on. There's always someone to criticize & make comments but if it works ignore those guys and their negativity.

Thanks again Northern Friend and God Bless you folks in Canada may he shed his grace upon Thee !
Hi Keith, thanks for posting this helpful how to video, thanks to you I was able to successfully install carpet runner on my stairs. Thanks again my Ontario brother :)
Thank you so much just an FYI when you are recording your glasses reflect the camera you are recording with. Thank you for avoiding BS and getting to the point.
Could you do a video on runners from stairs to a landing and having to do a mitered seam, more specifically a 90 degree turn? Either way, really appreciate the videos.
Do you put the staples directly into the tucker groove or a little above? Sorry, I can't really tell. I want to do a runner on my stairs. This is a very helpful video. You make it look so easy. Thank you. God bless 😊
Hi Keith, have 3 stairs built in 1936, width 35 inches length and 10in. In width not sure how to measure for exact usage of carpet and the top of stairs wood is 8 inches, not your standard measurements! Not sure how much carpet to get exactly! You make that look very easy! Great videos
Nice dude! Thanks. Good work by the way... the negative commenters are probably the same people that build walls with studs every 10" instead of 16" LOL
Really liked the video. You covered most all of what was needed in the video and the rest in the questions you answered. 👍 Question, you use the tucker to crease the corner where the tread and riser meet, why don't you also crease where the riser and bull-nose meet? Is it just personal preference? 🤔 Thanks!
Hi Keith! I was looking for a video like this and found your video! I have a finish pneumatic nailer and was wondering if I can use that to install the runner? Thank you for your time and help!
Great video! Just what I needed, thank you. What size should the padding be for each step? I know you said that the padding should be one inch shorter on each side than the runner but I am wondering about the measurement of the padding on the tread/step from the nose to the riser? Also, how far should you set the padding back from the nose and away from the riser for a clean look? Thanks so much for your reply .
I've learned so much from your videos! Thank you for making them! Question: How do you cut the carpet at the last step when you've stapled that same area on the 45 degrees? You seem to be able to slice it cleanly without any trouble. I'm asking because that's the one step I feel like I might get into trouble with.
I angle the staples into an almost 70degree angle or whatever the top riser lip will allow / this way the staples kind of hit short of the cut area/ also I don’t cut the last stair or any stair I’ve stapled on a 45 degree / I try to cut it almost flush / when you hit a staple / change your blade immediately and start your cut in front of that staple then when finished cutting come back to that one 😀
Can you staple outdoor carpet stair treads that have no slip back? I don't want them to move because they do. How can I fasten them to wooden steps? Help???
16 stairs usually requires 28 feet of straight Runner carpet. If you think you need more, you can order two stair runners. Let’s say an 18 foot and a 12’ 30 feet would be more than enough.
Hi!!! quick question for ya. what is the chance to do this on stairs that has vinyl planks (click together) with vinyl stair nosing...? I just want to make the stairs look better.+ Thank you in advance
Hi Keith. I’m seeing 5/16 and 9/16 for the runner staple size depending on which response I read. There’s also a good chance I’m just misunderstanding something. Which size should I be using? Great video; much appreciated. Thank you.

@@KeithShannonDirectCarpet Keith, would an 18 gauge staple be too big? I’m assuming you use smaller staples so they remain hidden where thicker ones would be exposed potentially?
I'm looking to redo the stair runners in my mother's house but I don't have any professional tools. And I'm not really looking to invest in them because it's a one-time job. Is there an alternative to a staple gun attached to a compressor?
Are you using the same size staple for the carpet and the padding? 9/16? We are planning on using an Arrow electric staple gun, will that be sufficient?
There are a few things you could do! The easiest way is to level it. Possibly only run the underlay to the high point! That will help out with the leveling, but carpet will wear quicker on that nose
