6:04 I have that same problem with my Hornady critical defense ammo (ammo in video) bought a new box after carrying for 3 years

Really informative video, thank you! Your concluding points about corrosion, scrapes/deformation, and setback was really insightful and what I was looking for. So much of the online and in-person conversation about when to switch ccw ammo is based on some time intervals and it always felt moot to me since we're talking about a cartridge like its expiring food at a grocery store rather than a definitive mechanical system that can reliably operate within its tolerances

I have the shortened round issue very regularly. Once a month I take a fresh carry cartridge and compare my ammo in my magazine to that fresh cartridge to see if it is out of spec.

Once a year take your carry ammo with you to the range. Use your range ammo and your mag of defensive ammo. It is always good to practice with defensive ammo it just costs so damn much.

Great points! This is why I avoid unloading my carry gun and shoot it out every year when I replace my red dot battery and check zero.

Never if you live in Oakland, Chicago, Philly or Baltimore. You will have fresh ammo daily. Pro tip carry extra mags or speed loaders so you do not run out.

I think this explains my first malfunction with my G43X, about a 1000 rounds though it but I unload it every night. Went to shoot my carry ammo and had a failure to extract on that first round I had been cycling for about 3 months.

Don’t unload at night. Why would you do that anyway

I set aside the shrunken rounds and when there's like 5 of them I take it to the range. You should shoot your carry ammo from time to time anyway. This way I'm not really "wasting" my carry ammo.

I change my carry ammo out every year on my birthday.

Every 2 months, I check and place the carry ammo back in the ammo box, mark the box as “Range” and use it at the range as long as there aren’t any visible damages. Any damaged rounds are turned over to the range for recycling/disposal. Thanks for a “to the point” video. Subscribed!
