Hat tip to you since you are trying to learn more about what you do! Have you watched Western Truck and Tractor Repair channel? That guy Warren has forgotten more than most mechanics will ever know.
Great video diesel doctor greetings from the United states virgin islands in the carribbean st.thomas us territory I am new to your channel i am a journeyman heavy Equipment mechanic i have 9 years of heavy duty trucks and earthmoving Equipment repair experience my dad taught me most of what i know so far before he passed away last year i am going to persue this trade and become a certified diesel technician and get my CDL class a thanks for the great content i learned a lot what size socket you used of that nut thanks God bless
1 5/8 is the socket size. Thanks for watching and man you come from quite a ways away. Welcome to the channel hope the content becomes helpful. Atleast there’s always another way to learn something. Stay safe out there.
Hey next time instead of running the cutoff wheel just take a torch heat one little band across the retainer/race until its cherry red and then give it a nice smack with a chisel and hammer and usually they will fall right off with just one good smack. It's works better than deep freezers, liquid nitrogen and even better in most cases than a cut off wheel. Another good trick to install the new carriers and mainly to remove rusted u joints themselves is to get a u joint trunion driver bit for an air hammer its also known as a smoothing hammer bit but it works great popping rusty ass u joints out and you can install the new carrier bearing with it so long as you go slowly and don't open the hammer up all the way beating the ever living shit out of it lmao. It's just a flat rounded head on the bit so no sharp corners but still don't want to fuck the shit up when you are in the home stretch by getting too excited with the bumpy noise maker lmao
Hey man thanks for chiming in. You are absolutely right, a torch goes a long way abs probably would of made this easier. I try to use items that people have at there disposal so they don’t assume they need a torch to do the repair. But I’m sure that would of saved some time on coming off. Only issue is cool down period so no matter what ,it takes time. I always appreciate others input because every bit helps others whether new or old we could always learn something new.
Can you put anti-seize on the splines before putting on the yoke and carrier bearing? I'm thinking about the next time you replace it it'll go smoother?
Whats the worst that could happen if I try to limp it to the shop 10 miles away rather than dropping the shaft in my yard? I dont have to run it at highway speed to get it there. It had failed to the point that the heat has melted the bushing and shaft is not in a straight line. I could probably lift the rear shaft with a strap so it's better lined up. I had noticed some vibration lately and had the front tires balanced just a few miles before this happened. That did not fix the vibration. Hopefully this bad bearing is what was causing it.
Excellent work. Is the truck on blocks or somethin? Wonderin how u got so much room to slide under there like that. I need to inspect the under side of mine before i have a shop go under there and tell me whatever lol Thanks
If I was under the front end definitely I’d have it on blocks this guy is not that skinny anymore. But mid way we have sneaky access points so that’s helpful. I would say every 100k I’d have it checked out. One thing that can cause many issues and when it goes out it can be very $$$$ to clean up.
Ok, I hear a thump under the cab when I get on and off the gas. I changed one bad U-joint, but it's still doing the same thing, what could be the problem now???
Great question and thanks for reaching out. Your issue can be so many things. Any bad unjoint, carrier bearing., cab torsion rod, any loose cab mounting hardware, suspension torque arms, loose catwalks, gremlins trying to get out. Would just hav to get hands on everything and see what’s loose. Or have someone shake the cab while you listen for the noise.
Thanks for reaching out and sry to hear about the problem. I don’t have my own shop as of yet and can’t mention the name of my current one. But thank your support and hopefully up be able to get a shop happening soon.
Hell at the mine I work at the lube trucks aint ever brought to the shop until there is just the smell of burning rubber barreling out from under the trucks haha. When you spend all day driving on dirt roads that were graded by shitty blade operators you get used to vibrations🤣
I hit that race one time with my cross peen an that guy shattered like a bullet. Glad it didn’t get any shrapnel from it. Becarful if you hit them. Lol.
Had my drive line u joint break towed to shop tow truck fd up more shop said the replace new yoke n all good stuff paid a premium went to grease truck after n nop old yoke still on there tranny leaking took it bck to shop guy wount even look me in the eye n tell wtf I paid for

The sound of the 3/4 gun is amazing 😂😂
Excellent... excellent video.... Very detailed and informative.
I just imagined the noise of the tools! 😂 Great video! Hope all goes well with replacing my carrier bearing
Very helpful video. I think 1.5 hour ifor this job is not fair.
Absolutely right but as we know the manufacturer does not care at all. Some how some way they can do it quicker. And we hate them.
Thank you again nice video . I will check it on my truck.
Excellent video. Thank you.
You definitely helped me a lot. Thank you
Glad this came in handy for u, hope more vids on this channel prove to be useful for you.

You the man, appreciate your support.
So what do you do if you forget to mark the yolk asking for a friend.😅
Haha,,thanks for reaching out..Try to align the yoke as best as you can so its in phase with the next yoke.If not you may get a bit of vibration.
Perfection, so what air pressure are you running and that impact

Would you recommend replacing the u joint as well during this repair since it's already apart?

Would you happen to know, the socket size needed to remove the nut to pull the yoke to replace carrier bearing for 2022 freightliner cascadia?
There is a few different sizes depending on your powertrain.
What size it’s the last nut you took off and is it the same size in all trucks I have 99 freightliner fld.
No never seize on the splines? Would've used a bigger hammer poundind that on too
Good job 👍
Can you put anti-seize on the splines before putting on the yoke and carrier bearing? I'm thinking about the next time you replace it it'll go smoother?
Great question. You can. And it would prob help. Just can’t use to much or way for dirt to get on and make for a rough disassembly.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks for the reply. I just posted an upload of mine. And man is it a mess 🤦🏾♂️! Check it out.
Can a slightly bad carrier bearing affect truck performance

If it’s vibrating and shaking I wouldn’t drive it. If it’s just pushed out and not straight than driving will be fine. But when in doubt tow it out.
Good job 👍 700 subscribers not enough guys

👍👍👏👏😃😃
Question, what size is the yoke nut 🤔
This one was 1 5/8 but there not all the same.
Good
❤
Carrier bearing will it fit too a 2000 freightliner Classic?
You will need a different part number for this truck. Always check with your local dealer for vehicle specific part numbers.
Can you use a hydraulic puller instead of cutting it?
You can use anything. Get creative. Whatever makes it easier. Just gta get something that will pull on that inner race.
What size is the die?
thank you for all the helpful videos you have made. what should be the torque for the bolts and nuts? Thank you in advance!!!

@Busted knuckle by diesel dr , I know right. Hopefully it's nothing too bad. But thks for the advice
What size what the nut
Where your shop located I have same issue with my truck I can’t find the problem?
Thanks for reaching out and sry to hear about the problem. I don’t have my own shop as of yet and can’t mention the name of my current one. But thank your support and hopefully up be able to get a shop happening soon.
Anti seize or no anti seize on spindle?
You can if you want to but not needed. Most people use lock tight on that nut to ensure it doesn’t back off
How did the yoke come off so easy?
It’s a gamble every time. Sometimes it’s smooth and other times you Gta heat it up and beat it off.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thank you

You are deff right about that. Gta quit slacking huh. Still waiting for that full time cameraman.
How much does a job like this run?
Thanks for watching and reaching out. Expect to pay about 4 hrs of whatever the labor rate is. Parts is fairly cheap. Maybe 300
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thank you!
What size socket was the yoke nut
1 5/8 I believe is the one your looking for.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thank you so much
Ditto, thank you
What size sockets should I get to cover most yoke nuts?
The typical yoke nut size is 41 mm. U-joint bolt caps 3/8 12-point socket.
Are you located in NC
Close but no,,I.Don’t have a shop I can mention on here. Hopefully that changes one of these days.
Any recommendations also in nc
Where's the sound effects when he tighten's the yoke nut 😂
Haha this guy
