  • In this video I replace the carrier bearing on our Mack.

    I can’t believe you worked on a plow truck without dragging out the torches! I still love the sound of the MG725. What a great gun.

      I know, there always on stand by with these trucks. I don’t know how I’d get by without the air tools.

    back in my youth i loaded the (ohio) odot salt trucks with a wheel loader. in the spring i removed the plow frames and plows and spent a month scraping them priming them with red lead oxide primer and painting them. i gained a fond disliking for road salt that lasts to this day lol

      It’s the season I love to hate. I didn’t mind winter in the past but for the last 10 years every time it snowed or anything in the winter I have to go to work. It’s getting old these days, and with out fail if I have plans it’s going to snow.

    Glad it came apart easily for you. Tiger Tool make some great tools for driveline repairs when removal is difficult.

      Thank you. I’ve seen some of those pullers. I might get one for the next one. I’ve had a few I didn’t think I would get apart. They make slack adjuster pullers too that look nice.

    Thank you Jason. Another interesting video. This video also shows why a third hand to hold things would be very useful. 😊

      Thank you. I usually use one of those cam lock cargo straps that you just pull one end and they hold for things like this.

    I was taught to use antiseize. It saves a lot of grief down the road. Here in Southern New England it's a necessary staple in the arsenal. I always clean and antiseize wheel hub faces. Alloy wheels love to weld themselves to the steel hubs.

      I use a spray can of anti seize on the wheel, I might use the paste though because it doesn’t work that well. I did just get this but I don’t think it will pull the inside wheel. It’s more for the 1 tons that have a space behind the wheel. www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/mobile/4-Pc-Dual-Wheel-Separator-Kit-P275670.aspx?NTW+-+0+-+Smart+Shopping+-+All+Products+-+660&gclid=CjwKCAjwu_mSBhAYEiwA5BBmf_LA-GvDcPN1Og0WHctAxo8IoNIg9Y06q33c2l8x6t3YN4yLF-lyUxoCUrkQAvD_BwE. I might make one of these though ua-cam.com/video/Y9iApTNt4RM/v-deo.html.

    I always antiseize everything I take apart. I was taught that from years of living here in CT and being a marine engineer that worked on old rusty steamships. When using stainless steel hardware I always use antiseize.

      You can’t argue with experience. I got some never seize in spray can form for wheels, it doesn’t seem to work as well as the paste form though.

    Wow. You’re reaction when that yoke slipped off. Smart move putting the anti-seize on last go around.

      I’m still shocked it came apart like that. Usually never seize doesn’t go far on the plow trucks, especially where it was located.

      @@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic not to mention the bearing. My go to is usually more destructive…. I mean therapeutic.

    So, Jason, do you know? So, Jason, do you know what the overall weight of a drive shaft from a Mac is?

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  Рік тому

      It would depend on the length of the truck and driveshaft. This one weights probably around 40-50 lbs I’d guess.
