Hey, thanks for watching my video, I hope you enjoyed it! I did make the video two years ago, I updated the title to include "2024" for the youtube algorithm since all the information was still relevant today. (Sorry for the confusion) And yes, with 10+ years of content they have added a LOT of systems in the game to enjoy (if you wish to) so there is a lot of stuff as you said. If you have any questions or just want to talk shop feel free to hit me up, likewise if you prefer to explore on your own then I hope you continue to enjoy Tyria!
Hey man, thanks so much for making it. Killer videos and they’re really helping out. So far I feel like I have more questions than answers after playing for the past two weeks, but I’m having a blast. I hope to see you around!
@@rubeuscubeus Feel free to hop into Muk's streams whenever he's live (every day. No seriously, EVERY day) and ask GW2 questions. Even when he's variety gaming, GW2 Q/A is a valid topic.
@@joshuaherring9674 don´t forget, Sir Mukluk even watches his own guides, when he does content he didn´t do for a long time, or only once for the sake of a "get to the point" video !! and they are all great as far as i am concerned :D
Never looked better in the new expac Janthir wilds. The waterfalls, beaches and foggy meadows are gorgeous. But IMO the 2014 Silverwastes map rock formations and sand storms are still unmatched.
Because almost every texture is hand painted. Take a look at the sky, especially in vanilla gw2-Visible brushstrokes. Daniel Dociu and Kekai Kotaki made sure this game lasts.
@@2nd3rd1stI noticed that Anet artists have made a huge leap forward in their work to create shorelines that are more realistic and added some current push into some areas of rivers, which is a nice bonus. Anet has always been superior at making maps and this expansion has proven that they are still the best in that regard.
26:18 The currency needed for changing the look of your gear is called transmutation. It is pretty rare if you do only play pve content. But as soon as you start playing pvp or wvw on a regular basis you will find yourself earning more of it than you acctually use. That is the reason why gamers who play for a longer period of time do normally got enough of this currency to design their characters the way they want them to look (even if they change the look every now and than). Because experienced players play competetive game modes as well (at least as a part time activity). Through the wizards vault, the new dailey achievement system since the 'Secrets of the Obscure' expansion (SOTO), you can buy a few transmutations every season (quarter year). It may help things out for only-PvE-Gamers.
If you play those contents you earn free Level-Ups for your characters (or future characters) as well, so if you are not convinced of PvE Content take a look at the competetive ones. Normal PvP you can (theoretically) play right from the start cause all characters are set max level automatically in PvP mode (Even if you are only lvl 5 or so in PvE) so only thing matters are your build and your skill.
Also worth noticing that Legendaries have free infinite trasmutation. Personally, I have 1500 trasmutation stones (the tokens), I'm trying to avoid them the most, and waste them whenever it is possible xD
Pulling big ammounts of mobs at once is absolutely vital in gw2 as well, but it requires skill to stay alive when you have 10+ mobs surrounding you. Figuring out how your active defenses work and how to quickly burst enemies down will make open world gameplay much more rewarding.
Mechs are slightly customizable. You can change it's arms and either have huge, jade fists, jade blades or guns. But that's it, sadly. Charr as a culture have a kinda scrappy tinkerer vibe going on. So I think scrapper (engi) is always a good fit. What a lot of players do to deal with transmogs while leveling, is just throw an outfit over your gear. There are some really cool looking ones. If mismatched skins bother you, invest in an outfit or two. It's not really a beginner solution, though, since nearly all outfits are gemstore items, unless you're willing to spend real money on them.
Charr are very militarisic in nature with a steampunk vibe. If you’re looking to play a character that fits into their society, Blood legion are the front line fighters good for playing the heavy armor classes. Iron legion are the tinkers and inventors, a solid place for an engineer. Ash legion are the scouts and spies with a large number of necromancers among them. But really, anything you make can go in any legion, it’s just story flavor that will quickly not matter
You'll get plenty of free transmutation charges as you play the game more, each map completion gives them, achievement points, festival vendors, etc. I've never bought them from the gemstore.
a bit of update since Mukluk's video isn't updated for WvW. you can now play WvW with your friends from different server as long as you all are in the same guild, and choose that guild as your WvW representation.
this only true as long as we are in alliance / match making beta. we still belong to the original servers but with beta wvw yes we can continue to play with guildies
And it's very cool! I joined a DnD group and didn't what to play, so I picked Druid Circle of Stars because it looked interesting. It's only after a few sessions that I realized i was drawn to it because I've been a Gw2 Druid main since it released. I basically play the same character in Gw2 & DnD.
"I can't hold aggro and hit multiple targets." My kinsfolk in Grenth, wait until you unlock Reaper on Necro! We're built to fight 5 things at once. We ain't nice people.
22:30 wait wait wait wait. You can and WANT to pull huge numbers of mobs together, and you can kill them all and survive by correctly using position, buffs, dodge, cc, etc. These video are just player chilling and showing the game a little for new players. You can watch the WvW video I suggested you to check some high APM and mess action
also please take note that maximum target for abilities are usually 5 targets (sometimes 3, very rarely 10) so don't pull too many otherwise you'll get overwhelm.
That's a good point about the videos like Mukluk's. They're definitely not doing what they typically do in game. If we can't pull more enemies, that would be a bit too frustrating. Obviously there are situations where focusing on one enemy at a time is best (if you're a glass cannon one-shot build, or if you're fighting against much tougher enemies, etc.), but yeah, aggroing a group of enemies is what people like to do.
When you create your other characters, be sure to turn off armor with the icon over the character’s head so you can see their physical build and body patterns. With Sylvari, turn off the lighting so you can see their glow. Sylvari glow in the dark and you can customize how bright it is as well as the color. As far as transmog goes, like others mentioned, an outfit may suit your needs until your armor is closer to a more permanent state and you’ve unlocked more options. Alternatively, dyes might be more practical in the short term. They have no cost to add or change your or your mount’s appearance. Also, can someone give me Rubeus' in game name so I can send some dyes?
Enjoy the discovery of everything in this game, as you will never again get to have a first impression of it. So don’t rush anything, none of the game is going anywhere and it will still be there and still be relevant, when you get to it. It’s great that you realize how complex this game is and that to get good at this game, it’s going to take time and effort and practice. The Adventure Guide wasn’t in the game when this video from Mukluk was made. He has updated this video and put a new name on it.
The armor you get as rewards or drops, or from karma merchants or through crafting can still be pretty awesome-looking. Further customization can be done by dyeing your armor, so even if you have mismatched armor pieces, you can make them match by applying the same color scheme to all of them. Once unlocked, dyes can be used limitless amounts of time, so it won't cost you anything.
early level armor skins do have some blurry textures nowadays, etc but they can look good if you dye them correctly - in that I mean "realistically": leather should be brown tones, metallic textures should be in dyes that shine like gold silver etc slapping a toxic green on your leather boots makes them look like vomit
It's the only MMO I play anymore, don't have the ridiculous time for runescape anymore and don't wanna pay a sub for ffxiv, wow or runescape (any MMO for that matter anymore) . Guild wars 2 is not only insanely fun but I can take a break for a month if I really felt like it and resume whatever content I want to do without worrying, see my characters (etc) without paying 15$. It's the gold standard of b2p MMO's imo and even the base free game has so much content.
I like double-tap to evade, and I do jumping puzzles fine. Most of the time :) But in some end game the double tap is probably too slow. Sadly. Still its how I play.
I keep it on too. I mainly move via mouse L+R and do micro movements by clicking. I never found double tap to evade such a deathtrap in dangerous terrain.
Mukluk has the best guides, they are easy to understand and succinct. The easiest way to get transmutation charges is through the Wizard's Vault. The Wizard's Vault is unlocked once you've bought an expansion, it's sorta like a battle pass but not predatory. It has daily, weekly, and quarterly objectives and you can choose what type of game modes to get goals for.
Autoattacking do a serious chunk of your damage in this game, do not discount that in combat, if you have a chained autoattack skill never interrupt it midway through, only use other abilities right after the last chain skill completes.
You're right about uptime, if you're looking to maximize everything with the optimum rotation. But even in those optimal rotations, sometimes your autoattack is part of it. The rotation actually tells you to complete the entire autoattack chain and not cut it short, depending, as cutting the autoattack chain short can result in a dps loss.
_I am ALL for your addiction to this game_ XD It reminds me so much of the time when I first fell into the game and was completely sucked in too As a veteran player, it definitely is easy to forget that in early game the transmuting of gear is super costly, and how frustrating it is when your character can’t look as good as you’d like during the leveling process. Your bringing up of this point tho, did make me remember how I dealt with that frustration as a new player: I basically went and got an outfit and just put that over my gear. It’s like a skin that covers over all of your armor and no matter what you wear, it’ll keep the dye and look of the outfit you have set. Only after I got to level 80 and got my first set of exotic gear, did I start looking into transmuting each individual pieces. I highly recommend doing the same :) Can’t wait to see more GW2 content from you, your excitement for the game is so infectious and wholesome. I’ve already started recommending my friends to watch you too XD keep up the awesome content, don’t stop being you
The #1 use of Karma is obtaining Obsidian Shards, which you will need for crafting Legendary items. One Legendary usually needs 250 Obsidian Shards, each costs 2,100 Karma (though there is other ways to obtain them, this is probably the best one), for a total of a bit over _half a million_ Karma just for the Obsidian Shards. Among other late-game uses, there are also many skins that are bought with it, often to the tune of 210,000 Karma. Right now you might think you have tons, but trust me, you will eventually want to have a tidy stockpile. Similarly, 250 of a material is often the most you will need at one time, but there are exceptions. And it is nice to have more. My material storage is at 1250 per stack, and even so it have to clean it so it doesn't get stuffed with some materials that drop way too much (khmbloodstonedustkhm). You _can_ weaponswitch underwater (if your class allows weaponswitching, so... not Eles or Engis). Also, your #1 skill is never on cooldown, and it usually doesn't suck, either - for most classes and weapons, #1 (aka autoattack) is not bad, though usually there are couple of other skills you will want to cast as often as possible, and others that are better _situationally._ The main problem with underwater is that some skills don't work and some skills don't work well (e.g. ground targetted ones), some players hate the 3D, and most importantly, there is not enough significant underwater combat for people to bother learning how to do it, so it fell by the wayside. It was speculated Janthir Wilds will bring back the focus on underwater, though it did not happen in the half of the expansion that we got so far (still might happen in the following couple of zones that are yet to drop). The story picks up. The base game is cute. But the story in the expansions and the later Living World seasons is quite a bit more engaging. It is not just a personal story, you get friends that you can't help but care about (well, most of them, anyway). I do not mind admitting to having shed a tear or three, at some points. There is lots of grind, but all of it is optional. It is great! Mukluk has lots of great videos, though I think he is the most famous for his 5-minute raid boss guides.
Its great advice if one is interested in meiking Legys, however, i would advice NEW players to explore world (its strenght of this game), optionaly meik maps and World complitions. I have played 2 years free-to-play base game and did with 2 characters World complition.Gives you lots of shards.... And wen i got expacs i did World complition with Elementalist. My bigest advice is, Take Time and Enjoy 🐲🐣🐲
This is not a slow paced game. Your DPS will go up significantly as you learn your class and get better at executing the rotation efficiently. Having a perfect rhythm/timing will give you like 25% dps boost vs. when you first try the class-- even if you think you understand the rotation right away. Just the little things like knowing which skills are instant cast so you can cast them while other skills are channeling, or timing how many auto attacks between cooldowns and stuff like that. It's very skill based. A skilled player with a bad build will trounce an unskilled player on a meta build. If you want to spam your abilities and flex your apm: scourge, weaver, and spellbreaker are good choices
True, but your build can help a lot with this, I have Carpal tunnel and can still do decent damage on some of my classes without playing piano on keyboard.
@@calebcasual I never said you can't get good DPS with low APM. Power hammer core guardian does 25k+ with just auto attacks. I said your DPS will *improve* significantly (i.e. more than it intuitively should) if you are timely about your skill activations. This is true for every build that activates skills. I made this comment because in the video he said the combat is slow, and I didn't want him to think this is like other games with longer global cooldowns where you can just hit your skills in the correct order at a reasonable pace. Having tight timing pays off in this game more than in other MMORPGS. Hopefully that point is clear now.
@@simex909 And it could be much more than that. Skill increases dps exponentially. Good players are infinitely stronger than players who don't understand their characters. This is the reason why people get walked through in pvp.
Something thats a huge difference between GW2 and other MMOs is that the Achievements tab in your Hero page is your quest log. Just dont get overwhelmed
Really enjoying seeing you progress into GW2, I love watching OSRS content but to be honest I just can’t get back into it anymore, I spent so much time grinding that game during my school years and then took a huge break when they deleted it. So nowadays my only account is a beserker “pure” that I wanted to mess about on, but the only real content I want to clear is end game PvM and PvP, from a PvP perspective I simply cannot do what a lot of modern pkers are doing and it will be another grind to learn it all properly given just how much the game has changed. And end game PvM would mean a huge combat stat grind that I just can’t be bothered to do anymore. So I picked up GW2 again after years of not playing it having not really been grabbed by it first time around, the last few months of GW2 For me have been so damn fun, and it’s just so much less grindy than Osrs which suits where I am these days. Absolutely love watching OSRS content and I’ll continue watching your content for that, but I’m really enjoying seeing your gw2 experience and you know that everything you do now will still be relevant in years to come unlike many other MMOs. Comment for the algorithm.
My preferred races are Human, Sylvari, Asura. Human cuz all the armor looks good on them, Sylvari cuz they have my favorite player voices, and Asura cuz their combat animations are pretty cool, instead of rolling when dodging they do a flip so when I'm playing my Asura Guardian with a glowing greatsword I feel like Yoda from Attack of the Clones
22:40 Some professions do still have 2 weapon slots for underwater combat like necro, mesmer, and rev as they've got options for underwater weapons. Where as Ele only has one slot and can only use Tridents underwater.
Its great to hear you're planning on streaming the game again. I've been warching the 4 vods slowly on over the last few days. Its exciting to see someone so, well, excited. Core, base game Tyria has its problems compared to later stuff, but at the same tine its still super nostalgic and packed with a ubique atmosphere. Along with the expansions, I do recommend picking up the Living World Seasons if you didn't buy the full bundle. While yes, they're story, and you aren't a big story in MMO person, they also come with a ton of other content. Some of them are just outright peak GW2. Super excited to see you get to 80 and experience Arenanet's progression with making content for the game.
Super glad you mentioned that you create your build around the way you want to play. I don't follow a pre-made build as my main, and I wanted to create my own build instead and have an absolute blast in any mode I play. (And yes, I still get invited to raids and host my own as I have been for years)
If you think that 'character crafting' is good in GW2, you should take a look at the original Guild Wars. There is a reason it was lovingly referred to as 'Build Wars'.
Glad you enjoyed your time in Tyria! The story really ramps up in the living world and expacs. There is a big step up im quality and storytelling. You should also check out the different festivals. The halloween and christmas ones have a ton of stuff to do and give awesome rewards. Another very strong plus for the game is the community. Most players are very nice and helpfull. So dont be afraid to ask for help in map chat. Whats your ingame tag (Name.1234) ? For some stuff to get you going :) Have fun exploring!
About the Engineers mech companion. You can somewhat customize it as it's arm has three different versions, decided by your last choice in the Mechanist trait line. You can also name your Mech. Thief and Necro were my mains before Revenant came out. Learning Rev for me went something like this: I don't get it... I don't get it... I don't get it... OOOOHH! I GET IT NOW!! Today, I try to swap legends no matter what profession I'm on, as a reflex.
There is something important to pay attention to about combat and the urge to always be using skills/weapon abilities. Some weapons have an auto-attack chain that can actually provide a good amount of dps or utility. Some auto-attacks can apply conditions, sometimes only on the second or third attack of the chain. One big example from engineer for example, the holosmith gets access to a sword and if you finish your third auto-attack chain, it will lower the cooldown of your second and third sword skills, making it able to burst more dps. The hammer auto-attack will grant you Might if you do the first and third attack, meaning you'll do more damage. As for the transmutation charges, it is recommended to not bother about changing the -look- of your gear while you're progressing through the game in early game. it's only when you reach max level 80 and start gearing up a proper set that worrying about gear appearance should come into play. Besides, level 80 content areas IS when you start getting the actually good looking gear
25:40 The transmutation charges are too easy to earn and you'll get them like candies even before reaching lvl 80 (also leveling up most gear looks fairly generic, you won't get really cool looking gear until the end of the game). It's true that they sell that in the cash shop, but that's a noob trap, unfortunately they have many noob traps there, that's one of the few downsides of the game. But you really DO NOT need to buy anything on the cash shop besides maybe inventory slots and bank space, anything other than that is entirely optional in the sense that you really won't ever need it. 1-80 is pretty much a long tutorial in Gw2, take it at your own pace, once you reach lvl 80 you'll even see you have a bunch of stuff that you thought at first was going to be harder to obtain. Just remember that it's a b2p game and for an MMO it has one of most, if not the most, fair cash shop there is. Every other MMO is just a cash grab and full p2w, except for maybe FFXIV, but that's subscription based (but if you look a WoW for example, that's total garbage xD Subscription + expansions + a f2p game-like cash shop lol) .
I only play as Asura the MASTER race :D I play as my main the mechanist and you do have options to put it either 100% melee or 100% ranged or mix of both. My bot is ranged and melee some times you need to use the slam when it comes to large groups and ranged is great option for bosses your bot is safe and if u pair it with a rifle you hardly ever die you or the bot. It's very versatile and fun. Unlike rangers pets you can't make the bot bleed or poison and you can not push it either so try it if u can :)
My main is a Charr Engineer as their whole scrappy, utilitarian and rigid structure was appealing, not to mention the Black Citadel being my (biased) favourite capital city. 12 years on and he's still the only one I care the most out of my 18 or so alts haha
7:00 revenants new spear weapon added in janthir wilds is very overturned right now. Meaning quickness condi herald, alac condi renegade, and condition dps renegade are doing unimaginable damage on certain fights
Nah, I played FFXIV for a little bit and that was more complicated to me. Stopped playing because it was to overwhelming for my little brain. GW2 is easy (for me) to grasp and it's my home MMO now.
Welcome to the game, enjoying seeing the new player perspective as a 9-year veteran! It really is a game that can be extremely complicated - if you want it to be. Most of my 9 years I did not bother learning much about boons and deeper build mechanics and as a mainly open world player I never had an issue, but lately I've started learning more and looking into tweaking builds or making my own and am actually finding it fun and interesting.
about gathering bigger groups towards you in order to smash them with huge aoes -use spectral grasp-it not only pulls mobs to you but also gains life force for your Shroud-as a reaper i never get rid of this skill, ever
Regarding the transmog for anyone wondering outfits dont consume the transmig currency so you can buy one and wear that til 80 once you hit 80 you dont change gear nearly as often as tou do in other mmos so you dont spend too much
My favorite races are Sylvari and Charr. Also if you want a decent and cheap outfit to cover your leveling armor look up “clothing” in the auction house and there’s a perma potion for around 30 silver. Take it to a black lion trader near the auction house in lions arch and turn it into an account wide outfit. One correction: wvw is no longer tied to servers, but guilds.
also big tip on the transmog stones, do wvw, you get skirmish chests very frequently from playing that game mode, you can use those chests to collect hundreds of transmog tokens a week
not sure if you know this or not but when you get a legendary equipment it also gives you free unlimited transmutation for it. i know that's another end game thing but for me it helped knowing that it is possible.
The Charr opening cinematic starts with "I am a Charr...In this world of constant battle I am the deadliest weapon of all..." if that gives you a hint what they're about. Oh, and the reason people are playing the hell out of Revenant is because spear can pull 54k DPS, which is currently the highest in the game.
Set your goals and what you want to do first. I always recommend people to get the first chapter or 2 of path of fire for raptor and springer. Those 2 mounts will take you far through the world so you can reach mastery points or jump up and over cliffs to get to events. But the best blessing is skyscale. It’s a heck of a grind but so rewarding once u get it fully upgraded
@23:00 you talk about uptime and trying not to just auto attack, that still happens in GW2, but its also important to remember that in GW2, your auto attacks are also skills. There's no just hitting your opponent for white damage on a 2.5 sec swing timer like in other MMOs. By default, you are always doing something if you're engaging in combat with an enemy. In fact, a large skill to learn is to not cancel your auto attack chains on most builds, because oftentimes its tuned in such a way that, unless an ability is paramount to your rotation, its better to finish your auto chain before doing the next part of your rotation. It varies from class to class and build to build, of course. In fact, there are some highly competitive builds designed for people with disabilities that sometimes LITERALLY just auto attack, and pressing another skill could DECREASE your DPS. Guardian had (has?) one such build recently, just auto attacking with their hammer.
Dude I'm so happy you are enjoying the game, I been playing since launch in 2012, but I do enjoy the fact where I can always jump back in after a break due to gaming burn out or just busy with life....all my gears and achievements are still viable even after playing this game for so long. I decided to come back from my Hiatus to craft Legendary weapons again. hahaha
i like yout approach :) this game is so much fun and since a lot is shared account-wide you really only get the original "leveling and exploration"-feeling only once and its a great journey :D Following guildes is useful and they are appreciated, but can take a lot of that experience away. anyway - subbed and wecome to GW2 🥳
Being able to aggro and survive groups of mobs, or elite enemies, really is dependent on your class(or your knowledge of your class), I find some classes I can barley survive one mob, but others like Mechanist, I can pretty much solo the entire game.
Also for a brand new player I recommend necro. With necro you can get some minions right off the bat which will help keep some pressure off you as your learning the game.
28:26 Yes, and! crafting components then using the Discovery Tab to learn new recipes for that discipline. As new discoveries award more XP than crafting an item that you already know how to make.
As an alternative to transmutation charges while levelling, an option is to buy an Outfit in the Gemstore and wear that. Outfits cover up your armour and are usually really good looking, so you can have a really mismatched set and no one will know. There are a couple of outfits that you can get in-game, but you probably won't be able to get them early.
I love the “pirate” look outfit. Perfect on ranger, revenant and will keep you looking good as you level up. Changing your outfit/ gear colors is free and can really make your character look refreshed. Can also change colors on your mounts too!
08:51 Don't fret. If you're playing support/heal in groups or squads you're not expected to do damage. In fact, if your specced into a healing build certain abilities that would otherwise do damage will heal instead and vice versa. On Mechanist you can somewhat customize your mech by choosing certain traits, which will change the mech's configuration (Melee/ranged, Strike/Condi Dmg. etc.). Some of those will also affect its appearance. Used to main Reaper for a long time, by now it's a tie between that and mechanist. 20:20 I actually didn't know that! Could've saved my hide in certain Raid Boss encounters! 23:00 APM is pretty much dependent on class and specialization. Certain builds consist mainly of autoattacking or spamming 2 skills off cooldowns whereas other builds are the GW2 equivalent of Rush E. As for wanting to mow down everything in the vicinity, wait till you unlock Reaper, which is exactly that. Good burst damage and all of it is AoE or at cleaving :D 26:00 I wouldn't bother with transmuting on lower levels. But yeah after playing the game for the while you'll swim in those charges. And if you get actual "legendary" gear, transmutating those actually costs no charges at all. But that's a whole different story in and of itself.
There are "boon DPS" roles used in high-level content, but they are typically not expected to do as much damage as their non-boon variants. As a healer, you are indeed not expected to do damage.
Asura is my favorite race. I like the way the flail about when running and stopping. I have a fondness for the small races in most games... except for Lalafell. They just look too child-like and weird to me. And Felicia Day voices one of the main Asura NPCs.
I couldn't agree more about the transmog point. It sucks, I hate it. The charges are rewarded mostly from PvP gamemodes, and so as a mainly PvE player they are harder to come by. However, legendary weapons and armor in addition to all the other benefits, can be transmogged as much as you want completely free of charge
Hahah I am so glad you are liking it so far! It's also a big difference to see this video compared to your first where you were thinking it's nothing special, and then here you are nerding out on how deep it gets haha ❤ love to see it! Enjoy Tyria!
Rev is fun because its like having multiple specs at once... Vind takes it a bit further and lets you sort of have 3. I play power Rev and sometimes support and its cool to be able to switch up playstyle quicker than any of my other characters. Also if you are worried about difficulty of support, play a scrapper. Its a very fun support experience.
I was a Human person when i started 12 years ago, then i was asked to be the support to my guild in WvW, and back then it was good to be small so they forced me to go asura under protests from me, but hey anything for your guild right. I leveled the asura up and have never gone back after that. There is no other race in this game then asura. People misstake them for being the cute and girly rase that other mmo have but Asura are actually very snarky and superior minded and their character chatting is amazing. When my female asura for the very first time said your dumb, when you die you leave a dumb corps, i was sold =D
I played WoW/L2/EvE etc for years, currently I play GW2 (4000+ hours already), and I starting to think that it's just normal MMO... BUT when I see newcomers like this dude who wonder of every fokng feature - it brings warmth to my heart ❤️ and it reminds me of myself who just started to play years ago in GW2.
For those transmog resource... yeah, like Muk said, don't worry about it at lower levels as you will outgrow that piece of gear real soon. And by the time you're max level, you will have more of those transmog resources than you need. Also, for some skins, it doesn't cost a transmog.
Druid can change into a celestial avatar, Revenant is my main as it's a jack of all trades and Norn is my favorite race all the tallest female I can go. Absolute fun and mayhem!! Tailor is light armor , leatherworker is medium armor and armorsmithing is heavy armor so like if your a ranger good to level up a leatherworker for your armor and huntsmen for like your bow, each race can have two crafting professions
Elementalist has low survivability as a base class, but through traits and Heal Signet they heal for small amount for each skill used. So if you play Piano rotation through all skills you can sustain very well, Also get lot of buffs and defensive effects , such as projectile reflect.
if you do buy Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, or Secrets of the Obscure, or janthir wilds I believe they come with a free max level up to 80 ticket thing, and you should not use it right away however, it has a benefit in that if you do choose to use it, its a temp use until you confirm, like try it before opting to actually level to 80, and what this does is it teleports you to an area where they have a bunch of weapons available for free when speaking to the npc it places you infront of, and also a vendor with cheap other weapons nearby, and theres also target dummies to attack nearby but also you can check ur stuff out and run off into the zone and try to not die to stuff and tweak things as u go to really get a feel for a level 80 character, granted it does not grant u access to elite skills but, it does help out to test against actual pve content if that is your goal, and if you hate it, then just leave the area and decline commitment to the level up and u can go try it on another character if u like.
just about your comment about constant uptime...please check if your weapon has autoattack chains, they are backloaded, dont interrupt them. also, use combo abilities for buffs etc, and you may want to save some abilities like breakbar damaging ones, or defensive ones and not spam them. if I'm fighting one enemy its because its a champ or legendary that take work to survive and kill solo. for transmutation, level 1-80 in gw2 is really quick and generally thought of as the tutorial, at max level, gear is static and transmutation charges pretty easy to come by ( played a bit of wvw this week and redeemed 50 of them from boxes from it). Also, until i made legendary armour (purely utility upgrade not power), my characters were using literally the same base gear for the last decade in some cases....I just occasionally changed the appearance.
I have over 4,000 hrs into my mesmer.....Mirage specifically. I loves. Recently got into Virtuoso and it's ALSO super great. And the story is one of the reason I kept with the game tbh, it really does get very good but kind of like some tv shows, it takes a season or two to get there ;-; I'm in Muks guild Bone Zone and he's pretty great, happy to see him finally pop up on the watch list!
Charr should work pretty nicely as warrior if you want to think races like that. Asuras should then be engineers, Sylvari rangers or maybe revenant because of ventari stance. Human works with anything. Norn is also more like Warrior/Guardian category. That being said I would highly suggest playing each race and story at least on early stages 10/20/30 levels to experience different variations on personal story. Plus there is achievement points and mastery points tied behind those. I do have multiple characters on each race and each profession, but my most played race is human.
Hi! Just wanted to chime in and say that the guild wars story is slow during the personal story. But that being said, if you can stick with it for the personal story and pay attention and also do the same through Living World season 1 and 2, the payoffs you get from getting to experience the later content while fully understanding what’s happening and why you’re in the places you’re at is sooooo satisfying. It’s one of the best stories to experience in any game, in my opinion. But it definitely requires your patience especially in those first three sections. Heart of Thorns onward is great though, and Path of Fire onward is top tier.
For Charr (the Cat People), I've found that Guardian/Warrior work well as Blood Legion (Shout focused Commander type roles); Mesmers, Rangers and Thiefs make good Ashe Legion (Stealth and Deception focused, and there is a Scorpion pet that fits flavor wise with them), and Engineer fits Iron Legion like Peanut butter and Chocolate (or two of your favorite toppings on a pizza if you don't like Recess). Arguably, all classes work for all Legions but these are the most thematic IMO. For Norn, Guardian (especially Dragon Hunter) is by FAR the most fitting Race/Class Combo in the games (don't at me, you're wrong if you think otherwise). Likewise, Ranger is a pretty fitting class with their pets - especially Soul Beast channeling the spirit of an animal (My personal Ranger reveres the spirit of Snow Leopard and is running around fused with the Leopard everywhere). They also make really great Necromancers and Elementalists if you're going for a more Shamanistic theme. Sylvari are just plant people, Rangers 100% of the way. Joking aside, they make excellent Revenents because two of the legends (Glint from Herald, and Ventari from Core) so if you want to play a Support Rev, Sylvari are one of the best to choose IMO. I also like the theme of a Necromancer Plant person, because all life comes to death eventually. Very fitting for a balance. For the Asura - they're 100% going to be Engineers. I can see some arguments for Necromancer to study death and undeath or elementalist to study nature and change. Basically, if you can think of a lore reason why their should be a field of study centered around it, the Asura probably have a field of study focused around it. Human Mesmers are almost as, if not just as, iconic as the Norn Guardian, Engineer Charr Iron Legion, or Sylvari Revenent because they're practically always the strongest lore-wise Mesmers. They also make pretty good Revenants due to their connection with two big Human Legends (Shiro from Core and Archemorus and Saint Viktor from Vindicator). Honestly, with the seven gods that the humans worship, they're probably the most flexible lore friendly class jack of all trades in GW2.
Personally I've had an asura mesmer for ages, with the idea that he's studied psychology and uses his expertise and arcane understanding to study how minds work. In addition to slapping baddies with illusions.
@@CharrREDR I'm confused, are you arguing that only the Charr fit the Engineer profession or that all of the char legions fit the profession? Because I definitely see it fitting into Iron Legion more than any of the other Legions.
Glad you enjoy the game, and yes it has almost endless content for players who just started out. The most complicated? Prolly not. I think I will give that title to Eve Online.
I am all for the famous "Human female Meta" :D (but i like Sylvari and Norn too) As a side note: Norn are the original "human" race of the world Tyria (if you didnt know it: one of the main Continents AND the World itself are called Tyria). They are the natives. That what is called human as a race are ... well Aliens. They came from a different world. Transmutation and so called Fashion Wars: You said, that in some Games it only costs something when you change your look to something "Legendary". There are Legendary Weapons, Armor and Jewlery in GW2. Its the "highest" Tier of Equipment you can get. But only for convenience (thats their whole point). Stats are the same as the second highest, Ascended. You will get the gist out of it later. But let me tell you: if you have Legendary Armor, Backpack and Weapons, you never need transmutation charges anymore, because you can transmutate them for free. The Charges are worthless at this point.
I haven’t really played from a long time go but the elementalist/weaver, despite the fact they have light armor, was consider as a high survivability class because they have a lot of shields, heals and movement speed.
@@LeoTypo true, but it is all _active_ defenses. Where you have to try to die on e.g. Valkyrie Reaper, on an Ele if you are not constantly spamming the right spells, you’re a rug. A rug with a Lava Font.
People keep dying on Ele because they refuse to use any attunements other than Fire and Air for max DPS. Once you realize survivng is vital for dps, you start using all 4 attunements and suddenly you stop dying. Remember, hypothetical dps is not the same as true dps
@@ArkhBaegor Oh for sure. Even using all four is not necessary - use the _appropriate_ ones at _appropriate_ time, which may or may not turn out to be all four in any given situation..
@@AmadanMath Yep, also toughness and vitality shouldn't be avoided, so often people complaining about being downed too easily as Ele are going full Zerker
I recommend you take your time before jumping to the elementalist. It was my best decision ever to learn the game somewhat properly with guardian and mesmer before starting my joyrney as glasscannon-main. It's super fun and a bit challenging but it's worth it and it will help you in the long run (lol trust me, your dodge-game will be on point after playing ele xD). And remember, ele is the best with some friends who will heal you when you get downed ;)
Hey, thanks for watching my video, I hope you enjoyed it!
I did make the video two years ago, I updated the title to include "2024" for the youtube algorithm since all the information was still relevant today. (Sorry for the confusion)
And yes, with 10+ years of content they have added a LOT of systems in the game to enjoy (if you wish to) so there is a lot of stuff as you said.
Dude Muk is the unspoken king of helping new players. His guides are LEGENDARY….. I watch them and I’ve played 2015 🤷🏼♂️
I always recommend Muks guides to new players, as they are both informative and funny.
@@joshuaherring9674 don´t forget, Sir Mukluk even watches his own guides, when he does content he didn´t do for a long time, or only once for the sake of a "get to the point" video !! and they are all great as far as i am concerned :D
It's amazing how well this game has aged. It was released in 2012 and still looks stunning.
Art style trumps realism. GW2 looks good still, even WoW looks good still. In 10 more years GW2 will still look good.
Totally, i just love it! 🐲🐣🐲
Mukluk has a ton of great vids. He is a great ambassador for the game.

The currency needed for changing the look of your gear is called transmutation.
Especially since many skills will only target a maximum of 5 at a time while some are single target or in a line
@@sevenember3332 I play a Charr Ranger with a devourer pet. Devourers are quite iconic in the legions.
You'll get plenty of free transmutation charges as you play the game more, each map completion gives them, achievement points, festival vendors, etc. I've never bought them from the gemstore.
Wizard vault has such good rewards, these included for cheap
Also once you get some nice legendary gear, no need for transmute charges anymore :D
a bit of update since Mukluk's video isn't updated for WvW.
you can now play WvW with your friends from different server as long as you all are in the same guild, and choose that guild as your WvW representation.
this only true as long as we are in alliance / match making beta. we still belong to the original servers but with beta wvw yes we can continue to play with guildies
@@SeeHangActually, the betas are over and the guild instead of server re-do is fully implemented.
7:35 druid does have a transformation ability. You transform into a constellation. And that’s not even a joke.
@@KanaxeI’m getting a new character for our game tomorrow. I’m going from a support Mesmer to a Berserker, likely hammer-flavored
"I can't hold aggro and hit multiple targets."
My kinsfolk in Grenth, wait until you unlock Reaper on Necro! We're built to fight 5 things at once. We ain't nice people.
22:35 Most classes retain their weapon swap in underwater. The only classes that can't have 2 weapons underwater are the Elementalist and Engineer.
Charr Engineer is extremely lore friendly.
one of the best parts of the first gw2 play thru are the moments you start figuring out things and the game only gets better and better
Once unlocked, dyes can be used limitless amounts of time, so it won't cost you anything.
early level armor skins do have some blurry textures nowadays, etc but they can look good if you dye them correctly - in that I mean "realistically": leather should be brown tones, metallic textures should be in dyes that shine like gold silver etc
slapping a toxic green on your leather boots makes them look like vomit
_I am ALL for your addiction to this game_ XD It reminds me so much of the time when I first fell into the game and was completely sucked in too
As a veteran player, it definitely is easy to forget that in early game the transmuting of gear is super costly, and how frustrating it is when your character can’t look as good as you’d like during the leveling process.
I highly recommend doing the same :)
Can’t wait to see more GW2 content from you, your excitement for the game is so infectious and wholesome.
My bigest advice is,
Take Time and
Enjoy 🐲🐣🐲
Using karma for obsidian is low Iq, just go to silverwastes for some time and you will be drowning in them.
Just be aware you need to be a concert pianist for weaver
Underwater combat you do get 2 weapons to swap between. Spear. trident or Harpoon gun
Except for elementalist and engi. They're restricted to 1, even under water (this doesn't include conjured or kits)
For some stuff to get you going :)
Have fun exploring!
About the Engineers mech companion. You can somewhat customize it as it's arm has three different versions, decided by your last choice in the Mechanist trait line. You can also name your Mech.
Thief and Necro were my mains before Revenant came out. Learning Rev for me went something like this:
I don't get it...
I don't get it...
Elementalist has some of the best survivability after you learn how to play it
2:53 Charr. Warrior, Engineer and Revenant, IMO.
Just make every class!
Comparing Charr to Hrothgar wounds me. It's like comparing a gourmet meal to whatever slop left in the pot
Nah, I played FFXIV for a little bit and that was more complicated to me. Stopped playing because it was to overwhelming for my little brain. GW2 is easy (for me) to grasp and it's my home MMO now.
i'll just add that it's also REALLY casual friendly, very little if no FOMO on doing dailies etc.
Good burst damage and all of it is AoE or at cleaving :D
26:00 I wouldn't bother with transmuting on lower levels.
Retail Wow is definitly more confusing. 10 expansions where some take place in diff timelines, different maps and planets
Asura is my favorite race. I like the way the flail about when running and stopping. I have a fondness for the small races in most games... except for Lalafell. They just look too child-like and weird to me. And Felicia Day voices one of the main Asura NPCs.
I used to farm the transmutation charges by rolling a new temp character and doing map completion in each of the starter cities.
The story for Path of Fire and season 4 is just amazing, peak GW2.
Lmfao the name change on the video is genius. Great video as always
laranity also has a ton of useful videos!
TIL that anime is the true way to this man's heart
Elementalist has low survivability as a base class, but through traits and Heal Signet they heal for small amount for each skill used. So if you play Piano rotation through all skills you can sustain very well, Also get lot of buffs and defensive effects , such as projectile reflect.
Small tip -> Transmutation Stones drop like candy in PvP 👍🏼
I always look for muks guides before anyone else. He does amazing content.
if you do buy Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, or Secrets of the Obscure, or janthir wilds I believe they come with a free max level up to 80 ticket thing, and you should not use it right away however, it has a benefit in that if you do choose to use it, its a temp use until you confirm, like try it before opting to actually level to 80, and what this does is it teleports you to an area where they have a bunch of weapons available for free when speaking to the npc it places you infront of, and also a vendor with cheap other weapons nearby, and theres also target dummies to attack nearby but also you can check ur stuff out and run off into the zone and try to not die to stuff and tweak things as u go to really get a feel for a level 80 character, granted it does not grant u access to elite skills but, it does help out to test against actual pve content if that is your goal, and if you hate it, then just leave the area and decline commitment to the level up and u can go try it on another character if u like.
As of the time of this video, Spear Revenants are very powerful and popular.
just about your comment about constant uptime...please check if your weapon has autoattack chains, they are backloaded, dont interrupt them. also, use combo abilities for buffs etc, and you may want to save some abilities like breakbar damaging ones, or defensive ones and not spam them. if I'm fighting one enemy its because its a champ or legendary that take work to survive and kill solo.
for transmutation, level 1-80 in gw2 is really quick and generally thought of as the tutorial, at max level, gear is static and transmutation charges pretty easy to come by ( played a bit of wvw this week and redeemed 50 of them from boxes from it).
5:34 this is giving you a little bit of a vibe? Then start watching (tbh, start reading) one piece! (It's a one piece clip)
Sylvari are awesome and great backstory that plays out in game
Welcome to GW2! Have fun out there my friend!
Which pack did you buy? The one with living worlds and three expansions ?
Charr should work pretty nicely as warrior if you want to think races like that. Asuras should then be engineers, Sylvari rangers or maybe revenant because of ventari stance. Human works with anything. Norn is also more like Warrior/Guardian category. That being said I would highly suggest playing each race and story at least on early stages 10/20/30 levels to experience different variations on personal story. Plus there is achievement points and mastery points tied behind those. I do have multiple characters on each race and each profession, but my most played race is human.
once u start to get hang of it , trasmutation charges will flood your account... and later on whenu get to legendary u wont even use them any more :)
Charr created enginner in Tyria. This profession suit better in charr.
@@VirtuesOfSin are you telling me that charr are differents between legions?
Ah, Mukluk. I'm sure you've heard it plenty already, but if I have a question the first place I go is the wiki. The second place I go is his channel.
Glad you enjoy the game, and yes it has almost endless content for players who just started out.
The most complicated? Prolly not. I think I will give that title to Eve Online.
I am all for the famous "Human female Meta" :D (but i like Sylvari and Norn too)
As a side note: Norn are the original "human" race of the world Tyria (if you didnt know it: one of the main Continents AND the World itself are called Tyria).
Druid does have a "transformed" state. Celestial Avatar (CA for short)
And remember, ele is the best with some friends who will heal you when you get downed ;)
looking forward to see you going into raids and strike cms
Good video. Liked your perspective on the game. But the background TARDIS pushed image it over the edge into a sub.
u can easily have transmog charges in the wizard vault
