JW is good but it's the updates that will make or break it, just like SotO. I'm optimistic, though.
I think Janthir Syntri was probably scaled back when they decided to shuffle the updates around a bit to not have us on the same map for three updates in a row again. The northwest part of it, the sulfur wastes and bloodstone crater, feel the most unfinished. The story, the warclaw, and homesteads came out great and honestly that would have been good by itself, but we also got a vibrant open world with decent event variety at least on the first map.
I'm not worried for players in the future. Sure it won't be as convenient, but it will be possible to complete the achievements with people in map chat, guildies, and LFG.
An important thing that people miss in these videos because they have no knowledge of just how important this thing is is that the narrative set by JW seems to be continuing all the way through the expansion cycle.JW ends with the Titans escaping, this will organically lead into the Convergence/raid because people will really want to rectify this. From there the natural progression of the story would be to find out who TF made these new Titans.
This will again naturally lead us to the next map on a type of treasure hunt. The design of the next map will be informed by this narrative line, just like Lowland Shore's design is heavily affected by the narrative that the Kodans have settled there for the time and Janthir Sentri's design is affected by the narrative of it being a hostile yet beautiful place. Even the distance placement of our homestead makes sense in the narrative as it's said to have been owned by Stoic Alder's family for generations and the Lowland Kodans only settle in one place for about 100 years and then they move. At some point in the past, the Homestead was surrounded by a Kodan village that has since moved to a different place.
People see the story as having nothing to do with everything else. That's only correct if they see the story as a separate thing. If you see the story as part of the narrative then it forms everything.
You can see an example of this with SotO as it was two different narratives and as a result, the Skywatch and Amnytas narrative had nothing to do with the Nayos narrative and the Nayos map became unfocused due to this as it was essentially a whole new expansion placed in the middle of an already existing one.
Great video, JW first patch has taken me about a couple of weeks to get through all of it, achievements included. My main complaint would be lack of instanced content released on launch. I feel that a small dungeon each quarterly update would do wonders for the game, if they continued dungeons that is.
At least there is the rotating Return To stuff to do in between patches.
Thanks for the kind words :) I've missed dungeons for a while now personally, but with the continued additions of Fractals I'm fairly confident that's the only 'dungeon' they're going to be adding any longer.
Or some strikes. There were great fights in the story that would have made amazing strike missions.
@@maximetauran3415 Which ones? The only things I can think of are the fights against Greer and Decima, and you already have an improved form of those in the Of Mist and Monsters.
I really really enjoy the aesthetics of the map. It’s nice to have something that’s living and lively for once.
I loved the events for Janthir. Great intro but definitely lacking the consistent pull to the maps for long term goals.
They are definitely taking the feedback well but we’ll have to see how they stick the landing.
Good vid, felt like you hit most of if not every point that people had contingencies about. We will have to see how these updates shape and change the expac. Overall I grinded the absolute crap out of JW and had lots of fun taking out the champion bosses in the open world. Reminded me a lot of bounties from POF which are still some of my favorite content to do.
Great video, I am so casual despite having a 11 old ACC, I have so much to play. I am grateful ^_^
I am wrapping up End of Dragon and Thinking should I jump into Jw or continue on my path to Soto.
If you enjoy the general GW2 writing, I'd say continue the path to SotO! It does lay the groundwork for a few key moments in the Janthir Wilds story, so think you'd be best off playing at least through the story, and the headed off to JW. Can always come back for additional non-story content in SotO later
@@syzxgamingx Amazing, thank you for additional information. I just finished End of Dragons and started Soto
Janthir has been good but SOTO looked promising too when it first came out. It'll be the next updates that will either raise it to rival the major expansions or relegate it to an expansion you never return to once your masteries are finished.
The last 3 expansions were more like living world than expansions. The only real expansions we have were HoT and PoF.
and those r enough as long as game keeps receiving these
EOD is massive tf u on
I think it’s a much better start than Soto. Lots of exploring nooks and crannies, story , masteries ect. The 2 initial maps are huge compared to the later offerings of Soto. Still not a huge fan of this model ( it feels like living seasons more than expacs to me) but it’s a good improvement.
I feel like janthir is pretty good but it still needs better rewards
Deadeye main here I hope you enjoy your thief journey. It truly is a really fun class to play.
i have all DLC's in gw2 and this one is the best, i always said that gw2 misses the home, build it yourself thingy, and now they released exactly that, soooo.... in my opinion at the moment, gw2 is the best mmorpg on the market, the most user friendly, non p2w, separated pve with pvp (no one is going to randomly burn your ass while walking in pve) and so on, the best mmorpg
JW cant hold a candle to PoF. Think of all the stuff PoF added, mounts, new guild hall, elite specs, and much more. JW added... spears and a mix of guild hall and home instance?
Guild Wars meets Northrend with spears. I still see more players in Arborstone / Eye of the North / HOT metas. Lets see how the expansion rolls out, but its looking very Soto right now
I see that as a bit more of a reward issue than a fun factor at all. EoTN/HOT Metas generally have really valuable stuff that can drop as loot for them. I've seen people religiously run Octo/Chak/Choya Pinata for example for ages (may not be the exact order, I don't remember, but you get it) for the sheer possibility that they might hit the lottery infusion. They're just built different, because I want to slam my face on my desk when I do that loop for a few days in a row. I feel like I spend more time on my phone waiting for things to happen than I do playing the game. As far as I know so far Of Mists and Monsters meta has no uber-high level reward. I personally (and probably very unpopularly) am kinda tired of the ultra valuable .00000001% drop rate stuff, though I never really got that into it. They also made the apparently conscious choice to make the meta not tied to legendary crafting directly - as there seems to be nothing like the SotO Metas that give you the larger currency used in the precursory armor purchases. Which while I enjoy the meta, I am thankful for, because if there's one thing we have plenty of, it's overlapping Meta events on /wiki ET
@@syzxgamingx people in hubs is a good indicator of people waiting for instanced content. That's a good thing for next update. In terms of "fun", it's so subjective it's hard to pin down beyond "it's fun for me" and seeing lots of players doing the same thing. JW zones are ok population wise. But nothing special compared to other maps. I don't see this as bad, it means we have tons of viable content. But Anet need to incentivise new maps, or folks will head to older content after discovery. For the long term players it's all good. For new players, it's got to be confusing as hell
I really wonder if everyone praising the expansion is still feeling the same. The novelty died very quickly with just two maps, one really good map sure, but the replay-ability of it is very lackluster and if the upcoming patches don't add some longevity this expansion won't feel much better then Soto. Anet really should have released one of the legendary items with the release and not wait.
I still very much feel the same. However, I have never 'mained' Guild Wars 2 past the initial 2012-2013 launch time for me like I used to be able to main an MMO. I just don't have the time. If I was playing 30+ hours a week like some people I'm friends with, I may have a different tune. But then, Guild Wars 2 I've always felt GW2 that issue if you play it too much. If you play loads of GW2 for just PvE content, you run out quickly since there's no gear treadmill and leveling to grind through every expansion. Which is why I enjoy GW2 so much, because I don't feel like it's another job.
For me I really would be surprised if they could make it as bad as SotO was for me personally. The story just did not flow in SotO for me. After launch I couldn't tell you who anybody's names were or what they were doing or why it mattered to me as a player. I really enjoyed Stoic Alder, Poised Arrow & Waiting Sorrow. The zones feel way better than SotO's did for me. After the novelty of soto wore off, I hated traversing the zones, and still do. Skywatch and Amnytas have really cool designs & concepts but felt awful to traverse. Inner Nayos is even worse visually & gameplay wise.
As far as the legendary, yeah, I think it would have been smart to drop one at launch, or at the very least give us the breadcrumbs of whatever trail we have to follow, like they did with the armor in SotO.
the problem about open world content being too hard for future players is already happening. path of fire is mostly just deserted and it's almost impossible to do most of the content by yourself, making it also almost impossible to get the griffon mount.
yes right now it's populated cause of the return to path of fire event but you seriously cannot expect players to wait months for another rerun.
This is another excellent opening to a new expansion, just like SotO was. That's what I'm worried about. JW has a top tier first map, but so did Icebrood Saga. JW's second map is an amazing setting, but with extremely repetitive, copy-paste events. It has few engaging events compared to the first map.
Let's hope that they add more to the second map and the third map is as rich and fun to be in as the first.
An encouraging thing about JW's start VS SotO's start is that they had from EoD's February '22 release to August '23 to work on the beginning, and then I presume at that point the content cycle struggle kicked in afterwards based on everything. The fact that they theoretically had less time (I don't work for them, I don't know when they specifically start some things) and still made a stronger start than SoTO shows me they've seemed to pull things together.
@@syzxgamingx They for many years before had multiple teams that alternate releases. This could just be a different team than the SotO. We'll have to see how this expansion ends and the next one is at release to know for sure.
You're a fan of gamemode specific visual elements, but how about the one that JW took away from us? (the Warclaw)
Overall improvement to the warclaw was a net positive making it something people might actually want to use outside WvW, made it easier for newcomers to get it into WvW, and vets who had it got rewarded instantly with a war machine weapon skin and skirmish claim tickets. There's also still the WvW only skin, so really kinda like the leggy backpack coming we gave more people mechanical access without taking away actual WvW only cosmetics.
I love the game but JW is straight up boring, I just do other things
TBH, for now, new expansion is nothing more than a one really nice map, with tons of stupid, doubled events and that other empty one with boring bosses. Story was so boring i don't even remember what it was about. I'm sure homesteads are fun for many ppl, not for me though, never needed one, never will invest time with something useless. But expansion is not over yet, so i will wait for more content.
Oh, and it was really easy for Anet to beat SOTO as it was terrible.
Nah, man. How can you say JW is your new fav over PoF?! For me, HoT was the real deal. It was packing with raids, adventures, lots of achievements and so on... I just wish all the expac was full of conttent like it used to be. We should at least be getting 1 raid per expansion. I'm so pissed that EoD/SotO didn't have any...
I think a big issue is anet lost alot of the talent that helped build HOT and POF. Most of their best people left after POF. The people that remain clearly are not on the same level so the quality level will be compromised.
I don't get the hype around Janthir it's easily the worst expansion so far. Most player's are afk at the arena, I have yet to even use a spear because it's very lackluster imho. I play with six other people and we all agreed this story is abysmal but whats new really. The raid is coming soon so those twelve people will be happy hopefully. The open world content has practically no one doing any of them because arena durhur and the crazy amount of health they have given to every mob. The warclaw is cool and really nice but still has bugs in it like the endurance regeneration just straight up will not work and sniffing will lock your animation until done looking really buggy. Masteries are alot longer to get and overall more annoying due to only way to grind xp is arena. They have added alot of nice small events but like i have said multiple times no one is doing them because arena. This is easily the worst expansion I have experienced in guild wars 2. Also side note push is great because now I get to spend less time in games to get my daily because they are over so fast most just afk and get free daily.
Soto had decent mechanical adds but with it come other problems.
Also i think the story has been trash since we killed soo-won.
ANET seems to from dropped the wokeism somewhat but still a bit to strange to see such DEI inflatrating this game making worse
HOT before nerfs was the best expansion, the masterys were meaningful, the game was hard, specializations, the story was rushed AF but still the best expansion.
We were not all worried.
Stop talking for everyone and speak for YOURSELF
calm down old man
look i know JW is new and everything but HOW on earth is JW anywhere above PoF? i just don't see it. i feel like my perspective is slightly rare since i'm full leg on every weight/slot including runes sigils so rewards are kind of useless to me but just content wise JW has nothing i care about. i finished the story and masteries in a few days and haven't played since. i want to love it i just don't see it. i still love gw2 but every time i log in there's no content:(
The true endgame in gw2 imo is fashion and doing hard encounters to unlock that fashion. Imao PoF offers very little replayability in that regard. If JW is any different we will know in a year. Also i would argue there is a lot of content, just not for you.
Lol too much bragging. More friends = more content
Gw2 has literally the highest ammount of unique content in any game Ive played but u can Still complete IT kinda.. in other mmos u literally Have to do the same shit all the time that isnt 'content'.. if u dont like PVP in gw2 the replayability just isnt there just play smth else u clearly played too much gw2 :D
Also if you only play the game to get legendaries and you have completed that goal and can't find a new one it might just be time for you to turn to another game. There is no use in playing sth thats not fun for you and thats ok.
@@hidetoshi9565 there we go.. it wasn't a brag, just a fact. jesus
Wait um how is this the case with verifiably less content than PoF, less fun, fewer maps and half done story that is to be released later. PoF did fully released mounts and all this with full story. We as consumers always have valid criticisms about what was given to us on **release** especially considering anets history. This was a disappointment and a huge thing left out from your video.
JW is mediocre at best. Living World was way better. (every season)
Seeing someone camera face reading prompt is weird...
The new content is very barebones and recent track record for pve has been weak.
This should by all means be bettee than SotO, if not, future of the game is bleak.
All of these GW2 youtubers act like millions of people are concurrently playing this game...
Its still one of the better and most popular MMOs, but because its so casual friendly, a large portion of the population are casual players that dont consume content for it or engage with it online outside of the game itself. Id argue that gw2 player population varies wildly with very high peaks and very low lows, even if only for the fact that its so easy to jump back into it and the lack of FOMO that would prevent ppl from taking breaks.
Janthir wilds was bad, no content, players will dropoff. You're wrong.
You might be right. I, however, quite enjoyed Janthir despite not being into the whole "wilderness" vibe.
The Warclaw is great to have, as it can replace the Springer and Raptor when needed. Also, the first map is just a lovely place to explore. That's just me though :) Hopefully it gets even better
Janthir Wilds hasn't even been fully released, it has a fair amount of content for the first quarter release.
No content and full of bugs -_-
@@HojaDanzante they have been doing a pretty good job at bugfixing this patch. A lot more than normal, and even touching on older content you'd never imagine getting fixed.
I agree by time week two was up pretty much all of the significant bugs I'd been noticing for achievements and stuff got fixed, many of them much sooner. Also the fact that they added some things for one of the Janthir Syntri hearts everyone was frustrated with rather than just ignoring it and "it is what it is" like they've done in the past.
The poor mans WoW is not doing that bad truth be told. Good on poor mans Wow :D
You mean non-self-loathing WoW.
WoW is for no man... It has been absolutely terrible for years :D
People still play WoW? I heard some vague whispers they had an expansion recently? Any other features copied from GW2 this time?
I tried to get back to WoW cause of thé raids but after gw2 i cant play it WoW combat Feels like shit :D Now im stuck And can't play any MMo basically lol
Two completely different games. The only similarity is that they are both MMO what are you yapping about?
