As for the exhaust, you could almost think Suzuki did that as their solution for Euro4. Basically "we threw this huge can on to get it to pass Euro4, but made it really easy to swap out for aftermarket *wink wink, nudge nudge*"
Good luck finding a street legal euro4 aftermarket exhaust without any power and much more important torque losses for this bike. There isn't any according to tests by independent reviewers (dont rely on power curves by the manufacturers... and if you do - see if the measurement was taken with the baffle out , as this renders the can illegal)
YES. It's better than having a huge catalytic converter under the bike and need to be there unless you get the full exhaust system. With Suzuki, you just get a slip on.
Thanks for the review. I am trading in my power cruiser suzuki intruder M1800R for the GSXR 1000R! Personally i think the looks are amazing. More streamline than other litre sports bikes. Its like the shape of a bullet!! R1 is trying to look like ducati but Suzuki still looks like a Suzuki 😎
Great TMF review . A quick note, if you find or spill diesel inform the staff, they have magic dust to clear it up.Not just dangerous for motorcyclist also elderly car drivers! 👍👍👍
I absolutely love that inverted white on black dash. I'm not sure why manufacturers are insisting on colorful bright screens when this works just as well and is better looking that standard black on white LCD too. This and Africa Twin's dash for example - just lovely. Always liked the inverted colorscheme, every app I can throw into "night mode" I do hah. Brilliant bike, great video, cheers mr. Flyer!
Hah, coming to the end of the video I see you saw that as a con. Well, understandably, but I really like it. I guess it's the Casio nerd in me that prefers it to the Ipads that BMW and KTM have for example.

Great review TMF. Imo the big Gixxer is the optimum blend of power, performance and value for money in the litre sports category. Compare price to others, the money you’d save on this beast would pay for a Yoshi pipe, re-map and a few Trackdays still leaving money to spare. It’s everyday usability also makes it a winner in my book 👍
Ducati is a ok looking bike in my opinion. I’ve never really like the fairing on the Ducati. That gsxr especially that color looks far better than Ducati imo

Great in depth review as always, I was surprised at your insurance quote as you are a very experienced rider with full no claims. My insurance for the Harley (valued at £18,500) for the 2nd yr was about just under 300quid & that included breakdown & recovery. They took 1yr no claims in to account, they wouldn't recognise my 18yr no claim in Oz ---buggers. All the best 👍👍😎
Cheers Geoff - I guess it's high compared to the Harley because of the performance of the machine (and I assume the stats around the number that are crashed/stolen!)....
People still don't get it. Gixxer 1000 is made from a strong physics point of view, not for looks or aesthetics. Form follows functions. Engine, aerodynamics, ride position, quickshifting from a Gixxer are unbeatable. These are pure physics. I've yet met people complaining about these from a gixxer. I'd take a gixxer over any "beautiful" bikes out there. Good luck maintaining a Ducati or taking an R1 on a tour.
"Pop into Timmy Tescos for some motion lotion" That's going on my negatives list, which is shame. Overall it's a good review and the positives far outweigh the negatives!
The simple dash and standard key ingnition are so indicative of Suzuki's design and engineering philosophy. They make bikes that will still be running properly in 5, 10 and probably a whole lot more years. Expensive fashionable items that don't enhance performance simply isn't for them. It's such a pity they never quite nail the looks!!
Does the pearl white give you an automatic tan? Looking tanned their TMF! Also I thought you were just about to push the bike base over apex after the turning circle. 😂
Watching you ride brought back memories of my Blade and R1. Want a sports bike again! Aesthetically, apart from the can I think it looks great. Especially the colour scheme. On a different topic TMF. I always stop at the fuel pump with the bike leaning towards the pump. Much easier to insert the nozzle.
This is the first Gixxer in years to bring some real excitement to the Suzuki GSX-r range. I can’t believe they have not changed the 750 and 600 since 2011. The Casio style dash for me is the only letdown , they could have put a color display but the bean counters got a hold of it👎
Its nice but not sure I could own one of these as my only bike, built to go very fast. Euro 4 exhausts on most bikes look rubbish and get ripped off by owners and replaced, I do wonder if this will get clamped down on more in the future? After all what's the point of Euro 4 if you can just rip it all off?
It might not be strictly enforced in the UK, but you MUST have all the Euro4 stuff on the bike to pass TUV in Germany, so you can only use a Euro4 homologated aftermarket exhaust in Germany. Not an issue in the US, I don't think any US state does smog tests on bikes, not even California (technically you need a CARB EO number on any aftermarket exhaust in California, but it isn't strictly enforced).
The one thing that drives me mental about the new GSXR is why does it only say UKI on the side, drives my OCD crazy.....never seen a “AWAS” or a “NDA”.......why Suzuki WHY
Thanks for a great review. That bike is the one I'm looking to replace my Yamaha fz6 sometime next year if all goes well. This to the riding position not being so aggressive as other sportbikes out there. Need to find one to test for my self now. 😊.
I enjoy your content, but I have to say the initial part of the review (the town bit) is a bit of a nonsense. The conditions you were riding in are nothing like typical urban riding. Whats the bike like when properly filtering, stop-go, walking pace, rinsing the clutch etc? What's the steering lock like? Does the bike get hot when sat still for extended periods? Riding through a half empty home-counties town in the middle of the day at 30mph doesn't really show anything.
To be fair to TMF, he doesn't represent this as a "city" test. It tells me a bit about whether the throttle response is snatchy, and is the fuel mapping good for low speed smoothness. I think the steering lock was covered when he showed it in the parking lot....it's not going to win any awards for tight u-turns.
I disagree & feel it shows that, despite the bike's outrageous capabilities, it is actually perfectly 'docile & drivable' in average traffic conditions, an everyday thing WAY outside it's bonkers design envelope; it's not ideal of course, but it copes well. eg. Your granny could probably ride it to the track for you, but only if you ask nicely. If you really want to 'taste' the difference, try a cable clutch 180 Jota with worn carbs & sportingly vague electrics, to my mind that must be the ideal tool to help you spit, bang & lurch your way through central London in the rain : )
TMF is giving us all a glimpse and an overall view.. to find out more if this bike interests you mabey you could test ride one and form your own opinion. Just a thought
What RPM does it sit at when it's travelling at 60 MPH in sixth gear? I have a GSX650F and it sits around 4,000 to 5,000. Traffic often flows a bit faster so it's common to be sitting at 5,500 RPM. It gets a buzzy after an hour or two of highway riding and I was curious if the bigger engine does away with this problem or whether it's still there.
Dude i have a gsxr750 and id never use 6th gear traveling at ~60mph..too low of an rpm...put it this way, breaking in my new gsxr750, i know that 6th gear at 7k rpm is roughly 90mph - BUT to ans your question (even tho its 2 yrs later) yes my bike gets LOUD/deep sounding after riding for a while whether its highway or main roads, its when the engine temp warms up higher and i have a RaceFit exhaust which gets loud as fuck 😉
Great review...really like it in the white! 'much more bigger'? really TMF. Where is you queens English? Once again a review that goes places where others don't! Much more betterer than the others!
As ever a good objective review. Fully agree with the "lack of character" aspect of the bike, and for me inline 4 cyl bikes in general. Nice engines, smooth and plenty of power (usually too much for the road at the top end) but I just dislike inline 4s at 60-80 ish MPH where you spend most of your time, the constant, busy noise, both engine and exhaust really gets on my nerves, so I would disagree with the touring aspect. I recently had a BMW S1000R when my own bike was in for a service, I'm sure most would say it's a great bike, and for the most part I understand why, but 2 minutes into the ride and on a dual carriageway I just couldn't wait to give it back, I just rode it straight home and straight back to the dealer, no wish to ride it further than I had to.
Whoever thinks the GSXR 1000 gets bad mileage obviously have not tried a Yamaha eMpTy-10 or R1 or Aprilia Tuono V4 or RSV4 . . . now those are thirsty animals according to owners. Mr Flyer, suggestion: When it comes to maintenance could you mention valve check intervals if you have those handy ? It's one of the most costly services and labor intensive when it comes to ownership. You're crazy getting all chummy with that diesel/oil/ w/e was on the floor. One of the first things I do every time I pull up to the pump it's check for any kind of nasty slippery stuff on the floor, after all, the pump's hose it's plenty long to get away from it all. Yeah, she's got RECYCLED looks, just like the Kawasaki . . . Honda it's OK, Yamaha went FULL ADMIRAL ACKBAR, it took my a while to get used to it. I'm OK with Vanilla Bikes, what many people call character it's nothing but a cover up name for the bike's inherent faults. It's like a loud exhaust, it get's more and more annoying with time, no less. BTW, I ride a 90* 1K Twin and at times the lumpiness and the chug-chug-chug at low rpm gets old FAST.
JIGA BACHI i used to be lucky to get 80miles before the fuel light came on my RSV4 when commuting. Not the ideal bike for traveling to work i know but it was my only option at the time. Thirsty indeed!
Some bikes just get crappy mileage. My Speed Triple only gets in the low 30s at best. It also goes through a lot of tires. Maybe it needs a tune-up or something :)
Regarding fuel economy. You quoted some "MPG" numbers according to the display(?). Do you know if this is US-gallons, or British-gallons? (I hear they differ.) And did you ever check if what the bike displays is correct? (I notice my 2006 Ford Focus actually uses less than what the display says most of the time.)
@themissendenflyer I test rode the 2017 model and found the handling to be a bit of a heave and couldn’t flick it around from side to side. What are your thoughts on handling of the 2018 model? I hear Suzuki have now made changes to the chassis on the newer models so I don’t know if this issue has been resolved? Thanks!
Speaking of keyless.... could you address the security of that? I'd always be afraid 2 people come along with some kind of radio repeater, so one guy would be next to me and the other next to the bike and the bike wouldn't know it communicates with the key maybe 50m away or even 1000km away, but actually all you need is drive the bike around the corner into a truck. So how do they prevent that? Do you need to put the key into a special shielded bag, so it can't communicate? Which would defeat the purpose or does the bike check response times, so it would know the owner is too far?
That's my point. You might think you are out of range, but your bike wouldn't know that, if it can communicate with the key anyways due to the described radio connection. Once I saw a video of a guy throwing his key out of the window and the car worked just fine. You could drive hundreds of kms. Just just can't start it anymore then.
Love how your Speedo is blurred every time you open her up lol, I believe Suzuki are still offering a free aftermarket end-can exhaust with every new sale, that exhaust seriously put me off, the cost as well, you can get a BMW S1000RR M package for £16.5k, great vid, would you go buy one of these after riding it, the gixxer that is.
Nice Review !! I have the same bike coming from a zx10r i Was worried at the noise from the engine, where i live there are only 2 when i listened to the other both the same, then i Was reading it is due the valves SVVT and the shorter stroke 🤣
Good overall review tmf but i was cringing a bit when you decided to stick some cheap supermarket fuel in her. Its cheap for a reason mate. Keep up the good work.
I wish it was cheap! Personally I have found no difference between fuel at Tesco and fuel at Shell - what makes you think there is a significant difference out of interest?
@@TheMissendenFlyer yea sorry should of said cheaper. The trouble with supermarket fuel is that its full of additives which can cause problems with injectors it doesn't burn right either. It also goes off a lot quicker when left in the tank for long periods as is the case with a lot of motorcycles. Check it out at simplemotoring.co.uk
Good review TMF The Suzuki is keyed as you point out but I don't really understand what's wrong with keyless that you mention, as do other comments here. I've had several keyless bikes including my latest, a GS1200, and none have been a problem. Quite the reverse, it's an advantage in that you can start and stop the bike, and lock the steering if you wish and operate the fuel cap, all without taking the key out of your pocket. That is is a lot more convenient than having to use a key for all these operations. So for example on a day ride somewhere, from taking the bike out of the garage to returning it later, with a stop for a meal or whatever and a fill up on the route, I never once have to access the fob. The only time I need to, on the GS, is to access the panniers if I have them on the bike. Agreed that it's not exactly a major hassle to use a key, and my Street Scrambler has one, but personally I see little reason to dislike keyless, I find it welcome. In any case it's becoming increasingly common on bikes and is quite common on cars now. Again, I've never had a problem with my keyless car. regards
@@TheMissendenFlyer Tnx! Iown 2008 gsxr600 and it gets really hot round city use. Its within normal range but that is too hot, but during summer its unbarrable! Can you compare? do you have roundtown expirience regarding heat managment? Im also considering gsxs1000 althought i am aware of the difference... the heat is the biggest problem for me. All the supesport owners told me heat is always going to be a problem...
Really like the coverage you've given this. One point I was curious about and the main reason I'm looking at this particular video, is the variable valve timing. Do you feel that having that capability was an asset that helped at those lower speeds and with the mileage. I've seen a few pieces of information on this and I'm really shocked that more manufacturers aren't doing something similar. It makes a lot of sense to me. I just don't know if it's a gimmick or truly advantageous. It'd be nice to see if Suzuki continues to expand on this through their other classes of bikes.
As usual a top notch video have to agree on everything you said really I have the non r version and must say it’s a loverly thing to own and ride got 17800 odd miles on her now and the rear is starting to show its age but I suppose for a 200 bhp motorcycle that’s not bad must say that the acceleration is a bit addictive pleased that you done this video on the r version seen your other vid on the standard gsxr as mine, again another great video keep up the entangled informative vids and keep safe.
Would you recommend one of these bikes if I don’t go to the track ? I got an xsr900 but love the look of sport bikes but never got one because all the power is at the top and kind of unusable on the street, but I don’t really know as iv never ridden one lol
@@Seanype id say No also for the Panigale Ducati he has....cannot use that power legally on the roads either. I have a GSXR-750 and its fucking perfect. The love i have for this bike is indescribable....😈😈
Except for the exhaust, more Suzuki's have that issue, it's a very pretty sports bike. Of course it can do more than racing, which is nice, but there are better bikes for the other purposes. When I changed tyres on my bike, they mounted the angled air filler thingies; are they called valves?
I went on a Mediterranean cruise once on a ship that had a similar sized exhaust.
Bet the ship was better looking too.

How much better is this than regular gsxr1000. Is it worth spending the extra for gsxr1000r
This bike is Legendary.
Not really buzzy this one but it does rev highly....just a 4 cylinder thing I guess....
I remember the stock pipe on my 1986 GSXR 1100. The Bazooka !!!
Can't deny the engineering excellence but to me it's styling looks very similar to an olde gsxf 600/750 teapot. Great review, thanks.
Great review...really like it in the white! 'much more bigger'? really TMF. Where is you queens English? Once again a review that goes places where others don't! Much more betterer than the others!
Cheers Vernon - sorry about my vernacular....
I dont mind the exhaust appearance, it sounds good as is without being obnoxious. I am ok with it.
Just wondering about the switchable modes. A is for ripping, C is for town, so what’s B for?
Fair enough, I guess we can't all like the same things!
Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate your videos.
You’re welcome Solomon
Yet another great vid keep up the good work
Thanks Mark, I’ll try my best!
At 9:36 not so much an ice rink, more Micheal Flatley in Riverdance :)
Great review you had great pros and cons I actually just bought one in the US and it comes with a slip on to replace the garbage can exhaust
What a great idea! Thanks for watching - TMF
I think we have the same lawn mower!!! Great handling and adjustable hand grips
Surprisingly good handling actually - balance is great for cornering....
I reckon if the Suzuki had white rims and powdercoated the frame and swingarm the same blue as the forks it would look the goods!
No mention of the omission of the rear mud guard? A big negative if you ask me.
I was genuinely surprised at the MT-10's numbers.
@SunzOffski maybe they have been running on 2 cylinders ? 😝
Some bikes just get crappy mileage. My Speed Triple only gets in the low 30s at best. It also goes through a lot of tires. Maybe it needs a tune-up or something
:)
@@Miata822 I blame it on the calibration of the device that actuates the right handle. Probably stuck on RACE MODE. 😝
Regarding fuel economy.
You quoted some "MPG" numbers according to the display(?).
Do you know if this is US-gallons, or British-gallons? (I hear they differ.)
And did you ever check if what the bike displays is correct? (I notice my 2006 Ford Focus actually uses less than what the display says most of the time.)
How do you find the rear shock on this i currently have a 17 zx10r and it's very harsh on the road
fantastic review as always
Great info. I’m getting a used one soon.
Good choice!
@@TheMissendenFlyer It's between this and the R1. The latter is also a beast, but I'm not sure about it as an on-in-all daily tool.
I especially liked the ergos section where you showed yourself on the bike. Always mention your height.
@themissendenflyer Didn't you find That the bike are to much vibey? The barends in midrange vibrates annoying i think. Bought it as a new Bike
Would you recommend a GSXR-1000cc bike 🏍 for a 6ft 2 person for comfort or is the GSXR-750 comfortable enough for size comparison? Thanks
Thanks!
I found the bike to handle very nicely, certainly not a “heave”!
What are the main differences between the GSXR-1000 and the 1000-R besides price? Thanks 🙏 in advance!
Yes, I was very impressed with this bike, thought it was great value in particular when compared to the competition of the time...
The best review for that bike, just wondering how tall you are, looking for that seating position as I am a short guy
Thank you - I'm 5'8"
What could you do with that exhaust when you take it off, sell it to
a bus company , or stick it on a motorhome?
Great bike, great vid. Greetz from Holland
Great review...thanks. I love that bike (with an aftermarket exhaust).
Nice Review !! I have the same bike coming from a zx10r i Was worried at the noise from the engine, where i live there are only 2 when i listened to the other both the same, then i Was reading it is due the valves SVVT and the shorter stroke 🤣
Great review as always TMF!
Good review TMF
The Suzuki is keyed as you point out but I don't really understand what's wrong with keyless that you mention, as do other comments here.
Again, I've never had a problem with my keyless car.
regards
Just something else to go wrong and bump up the insurance quote (keyless easy to pinch apparently)....
They say this is the perfect bike for short riders. I'm 5'5 will this fit me well? The R1 seems a bit too high
Tnx for great video? How good is heat managment? My gsxr600 gets very very hot! Espetialy roundtown
Seemed pretty good - no issues - but then I do ride a Panigale!
My fav fairings I want some on my 2023 gsxr
Really like the coverage you've given this. One point I was curious about and the main reason I'm looking at this particular video, is the variable valve timing. Do you feel that having that capability was an asset that helped at those lower speeds and with the mileage. I've seen a few pieces of information on this and I'm really shocked that more manufacturers aren't doing something similar. It makes a lot of sense to me. I just don't know if it's a gimmick or truly advantageous. It'd be nice to see if Suzuki continues to expand on this through their other classes of bikes.
I can’t say as I noticed it’s effects - but then I haven’t ridden a GSXR without it! Sorry I’m not much help on that....
Quick question mate, what was the most expensive bike you've reviewed in terms of the running cost?
I don't honestly know!
TMF have you ridden a GSXS 1000? Curious to hear your opinion on that bike particularly the 2017-2018 one
No I haven’t, but it’s on the to do list!
Nicely done video. Interesting and informative too:)
Living with it. How can you live without it
As usual a top notch video have to agree on everything you said really I have the non r version and must say it’s a loverly thing to own and ride got 17800 odd miles on her now and the rear is starting to show its age but I suppose for a 200 bhp motorcycle that’s not bad must say that the acceleration is a bit addictive pleased that you done this video on the r version seen your other vid on the standard gsxr as mine, again another great video keep up the entangled informative vids and keep safe.
Entangled???
Prediction tx entertaining it should be not entangled!!
In the dark is perfect...for stealth riding mode
Great review!! I’m considering trading in my 2016 R1 for the new 100 year anniversary edition GSXR1000R. Thoughts?
Why not!
Hey TMF, did you ever notice how lashy the bike feels at low speed when closing the throttle?
No I didn’t - the one I rode felt fine!
Would you recommend one of these bikes if I don’t go to the track ? I got an xsr900 but love the look of sport bikes but never got one because all the power is at the top and kind of unusable on the street, but I don’t really know as iv never ridden one lol
...IMO not worth having unless you go on track - can't tap into what this bike is good at at any legal speed in the UK...
Ok, you have Ducati sport bike, is that better for the street as it’s a twin and would probably have more usable power then an inline 4 ?
@@Seanype id say No also for the Panigale Ducati he has....cannot use that power legally on the roads either. I have a GSXR-750 and its fucking perfect. The love i have for this bike is indescribable....😈😈
Except for the exhaust, more Suzuki's have that issue, it's a very pretty sports bike.
Of course it can do more than racing, which is nice, but there are better bikes for the other purposes.
When I changed tyres on my bike, they mounted the angled air filler thingies; are they called valves?
That's the things!
Subbed, love your content, thank you!
Thank you for the sub and welcome along!
