A similar riff is in Rush’s song Tom Sawer about 1:30 minute in. Mike is amazing.

Mike Dawes is amazing. And this song is super cool. 👌
This is my go to video for reminding myself that there's always work to do learning guitar. The technique is immaculate.

"Beautifully haunting" ... what a perfect description. Loved your incisive analysis, both as an expert and a nuanced fan. Wonderful review.

I watched this when it was like new back when Ewan Dobson and Mike Dawes were the best thing to watch.

That technique he does with the one handsede harmonic he hits way below the fretboard sounds insane. Everything he does makes the song itself better, which is something quite rare among virtuoso type guitarists. There's no fat on this to trim at all. What a tune!

Hey Geebz, this is my first listen in your World Music channel but long time subscriber to your metal channel. Love this music and I must say my mind went straight to TOOL in parts of the song, very Reflection and Schism-like. Thanks for sharing!

    Mike got Tommy Emmanuel's admiration.
that's it. done. there is no higher standard than that. as an acoustic guitar player Mike's purpose on this Earth has been fulfilled.
no Australian guitarist was stunned by Andy McKee's style and technique. we considered it a good attempt to be Tommy, probably the best so far up to that point.
Tommy is a very generous musician and will play with anybody. but he will not seek out to play with another guitarist regularly because it would not be a kindness, no matter his motivation. but he seems positively EAGER to play with Mike. as an Australian guitarist THAT leaves me stunned.
every guitarist *knows* there isn't a "best". but every guitarist also *knows* that there really is. when Chett Atkins and Les Paul say you're the best in the world, you just might be.

You've got to do Jon Gomm - Passionflower. Stunning guitar technique on top of solid songwriting.

Geebz, not sure if you're familiar with (or have even heard of) Michael Hedges, but if not... look him up (recommended song: "Aerial Boundaries"). Hedges is pretty much the originator (some four decades ago) of this style of guitar playing, inspiring Dawes, Andy McKee, Jon Gomm and many others to pick up where he left off. Like Dawes, Hedges considered himself a composer first -- the guitar tunings, percussive style and crazy technique were just tools to bring forth the music he heard within.

Hi Geebz, have you heard of Ernesto Schnack? Extraordinary guitarist who covers metal and alternative music songs. I particularly like his Tool covers of Lateralus, Invincible and Forty Six and Two. Simply mind blowing, even the percussion sounds he creates. Cool covers of APC too.

You need to check out the Persona 5 Royal OST it has a funk/jazz vibes. Very much the game's theme is about the spirit of rebellion and the music reflect this. The songs I'd recommend are Colors Flying High, Life Will Change, or I Believe. Though to be fair the entire soundtrack is absolute gold.

That was a great reaction! If you enjoy this sort of intricate and unusual fingerstyle guitar sort of music, I HIGHLY recommend you to watch "Passionflower" by John Gomm. He sings and plays this style of guitar and uses some unique technquies as well, I bet you'll enjoy it! Here's the link to the original video: ua-cam.com/video/nY7GnAq6Znw/v-deo.html

Mike Dawes is very good. Shame that most of his stuff is only really viable heavily amplified. Like he couldnt play most of his songs and project enough sitting around a campfire just playing
