Love you mate. Thanks for being a huge part of all our guitar playing lives. Loved this hang, let’s do it again!
Thanks for taking the time to explain some of what you're doing there... it's just mind-blowingly FUN to watch you play! Man, to see you -AND- Tommy Emmanuel together, that would be freakin' awesome, but a bit far to travel. Hope you find your way to North America soon, upper-state NY region, please. ;-)
Glad you made time to hang with Justin! Loved seeing some glimpses of where your inspiration and ideas come from. Thanks!
Thank you Sir, I’m not normally emotional about these things but this had me in tears. Well done Sir.
...where can I apply for the stadium thing 😲?! I'd get the tabs for sure, cheers, Lars
Saw you with Tommy.. Best I've ever seen! Can't wait to see you also at a full solo show!
Mike is not just a phenomenal guitarist but his analysis, attention to detail & musicality is unbelievable. Brilliant stuff!
Mike Dawes is a genius! He is one of the most awesome fingerstyle guitarists when I ever heard.
I can’t begin to fathom out how clever and well thought out this arrangement is. Amazing playing.
Mike is an unbelievably talented guitarist. It was fun to see and hear him explain the process he followed in generating his rendition of this Van Halen classic.
Mike has the longest fingers of any guitarist I've ever seen. What an incredible talent. Thanks for this Justin.
I thought Paul Gilbert was the King of the long slender fingers, but Mike has given him a challenge! My God, look at his pinky finger! It's longer than my middle finger! And the brain and heart controlling those fingers is what really makes them wonderful. What a talent.
@@valuedhumanoid6574 Yeh Paul Gilbert, end of discussion.
Buckethead had pretty decent finger length and John Mayer has a ridiculous lengthed thumb 😂
Steve Vai too got really long fingers.
Thank you Justin & Mike!! That was one of the most enjoyable videos I have ever seen. That was crack for us guitar nerds.🤘😎
That was SO entertaining... to hear Justin's exploration... and then Mike's discussion and playing. really loved it.
Holy shit, that’s 34 minutes of my life very well spent 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks Justin, great interview. I saw Mike in Napa Ca a joy to see and hear!
Amazing to see the mechanics behind Mike Dawe’s genius! Fascinating insights Justin. Thank you.
Awesome to see two great musicians who love their craft show on how they talk about it and their methods and music talents are inspiring to us wanna be guitarist even at age 55 Thanks awesome to see this interview and playing Stay safe and keep playing we the people thank you
Thanks Justin for the interview! I came and rewatched this and things are getting more and more sense
That's a very clever pedalboard. What an amazing guy to watch ( along with our calm Justin of course 😊)
saw Mike in Portsmouth NH just a couple of weeks ago and it was simply fantastic. his love of the pieces he is playing just shines out. Yes its a virtuoso performance but so musical as well, not just a demonstration of technique - I'm a fanboy and thanks Justin for this superb "Hang" it was fascinating to be able to eavesdrop! - 3 thumbs up :)
@mikedawesofficial, man you are the reason I sleep like a baby in the most distressing times of my life. I have downloaded this "slow dancing in a burning room" guitar cover of yours from YT and whenever I feel restless I put it in a loop and fall a sleep listening to it.
Brilliant seeing the two of you discuss Mikes arrangement of this track.
Man that was a good watch. So much knowledge and detail and a joy of a song and a great memorial to EVH
I hope Mike is reading some of these. We saw Mike and Tommy in Mill Valley, CA. I was somewhat prepared but my wife had no idea what to expect. We were both astounded with the virtuosity, the charming entertainment and were completely impressed with the great guy Mike is. Had a wee chat after the set and picked up some cds to support the cause. Mike's set remains one of our favorite experiences. Thanks, Mike. Please come back to play.
Great video. Thanks to you both. More of this stuff please 🙏.
This cover is the exact reason why I'm now following you Mike. I'll come and see you in Milan in a month's time. Thanks for the continuous inspiration.
Bonkers. What a sound. I listened to a lot of Mike’s stuff before I bought my first guitar 2 years ago.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all another genius enters the fray. Awesome work guys 🤘
Wow! This guy's a true virtuoso! Love his work. Will follow him from now on
Wow jaw dropping playing, sounds fantastic well done 👍
This was fantastic. I'm blown away.
But also - this is what reaction videos should be - very nice interviews, not just somebody watching a video, smiling for ten seconds "aaaand take!". Well done, Justin. You made this into something just infectiously interesting!
Awesome to see a Collab between two of my favorite guitarists!
WOW! So brilliant and inspiring. I thank you both.
Wow Justin, that was such a beautiful interview. What a nice guy Mike is and you just guided him through all the little details of his playing. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you Mike and Justin! I'm going to investigate DADGAD again.
Mike Dawes is such an underrated guitarist. Great video.
I don’t think he’s underrated, hes just unknown..
Je is good enough to play with Tommy Emanuel.
Such a top pair of blokes... and I love being a 'fly on the wall' as they just chat.. and Justin, mate, your -joy- in the discovering of how Mike does his thing was just as 'mazing. There's' no one like Mike Dawes... and I admit my Aussieness, as I particularly like Mike's playing with Tommy Emmanuel (and the lil' jam you did with him, Justin)... Fantastic to watch.. and Fanx! for posting this video... :)
Just wow. Insanely great to listen too and the inside baseball of it all is the cherry on top
The better one gets, the humbler they are! Very elaborate! Loved watching it!
Best "guitar" video ever. Awesome job, awesome player, and even some awesome "engineering" for a UA-cam interview video. Sounds fantastic.
Saw Mike in Annapolis this year, sat really close to the staged mesmerized by all that was going on. Great show definitely go and see him if you can.. Learning from Justin so really enjoyed this conversation.. Thanks to you both.
Watched with my mouth open in amazement most of the time. Fantastic!
One hell of a talent. Wow. I love his style.
Fantastic session. A big thanks to both guys.
Thanks so much for this! I first heard of Mike from his Rick Beato vid talking about creating his version of All Along the Watchtower. Then got to see him with Tommy Emmanuel in January 2022. This was really cool to see/hear about some of his creative processes. The only thing my playing has in common with his playing is that I speed up when I get anxious or excited, too. And that's just in my own living room. Thanks again, Justin. Cheers to you both!
Mike Dawes is fantastic. Yes, his guitar playing is some of the best I've ever heard... But also, he just has so much joy and humor about him. You can see in his face that he's just as amused by the clever tricks and fun phrasing etc... as we are, and it doesn't come off as cockey but just someone with something cool to share.
Mike is so beautiful and enjoyable to listen to and watch his skilled playing.🍻
Just a casual interview with an actual genius. Dudes a legend, great interview
Accidentally opened this while practicing the beginner version of Three Little Birds (thank you Justin!). Blew my frickin mind. Shared with my son who is about to start studying audio engineering in school as your mate there seems to be an audio engineer and guitartist all rolled into one.
Have to tell you I did not know of this fine guitar player Justin, he certainly deserves the spotlight and sounds like he is from our islands, great stuff.
Everyone who loves this, and it is great, should look up Michael Hedges, the (sadly late) master of this technique/style. Mike Dawes is doing his own thing here, but is, like all of us, standing on the shoulders of those who came before.
Oh my goodness. What fun! Mike Dawes, you're amazing.
Fascinating!… thank you
this is a genuine genius. very impressive, amazing really.....................
This is brilliant Justin. Fantastic interaction. Mr Dawes oh my word behave! Just sublime! Thank You 🙏
WOW! I had never seen the original video before, what a phenomenal "cover" of this tune... I dare say you may have made it better! lol ;) And, as usual, what a great interview, Justin... such a wealth of knowledge in everything you produce, this was tremendously educational but also just a whole hell of a lot of FUN to watch! Thank You!!
Watched Mike in Concert with Justin Hayward. Modest and brilliant.
The genius becomes apparent - thanks for breaking it down!!
Wow, this is awesome! Jump! 🎸
going from multiplying fishes and turning water into wine to becoming an iconic guitar master is a big step forward! Glad to see you back Jesus!
Fantastic arrangement man. Love it. You must have spent ages transcribing the song. ❤️🎼🎸
Saw Mike D opening for Justin (Hayward) in Guildford UK a couple of years ago. Amazed.
Man I love Mike, pure passion at the source
Mike's playing reminds me so much of Ben Lacy's playing. They are both incredible... and, of course, so is Justin. We appreciate what you do, Justin.
Just fascinating! Thanks
Wow! This is amazing
Amazing, and he comes across as a really nice guy too
Finally! Some in person stuff again. Does this mean we can see some more stuff with Tammy and the like? I love these discussions with other musicians and learners.
Loved this - thank you
Saw Mike in Fareham last week, great night, got to hear the ‘C’mon ‘ sample live!
Haha yes!!
Here in the U.S. that will need to be changed to "C'mon Man" 🤣
Just was talking to him last month at a show in Warren,Ohio. Killer on guitar and loved the show
Would love a tab for this Mike!!!!! I always love the way you arrange and play the guitar!
Incredible right hand techniques!
I'm sitting here, blown away. What a tribute. What a piece. Thank you both. And yes I've subbed to his channel!
🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
Rhythm at its best ! Guitar is very percussive if you can hear it you can play it! Thanks for sharing nice breakdown!
vibed with it a super lot. s tier and super unique.
Eddie would love this awesome tribute, jump rendition. Thanks Mike.
Saw Mike and Tommy perform in Belgium, both top class act :)
Mike you are incredible. There is always so much going on when you play it is forever fresh! I wish you would come back to MIM (Phoenix) where I first heard you and became a fan for life. Your gift is God given - you are very special.
that was amazing wow
A very talented young man!
This is awesome- I learned so much stuff in the first 5 minutes about muting with hammer on/off, mics, etc. What a great formula this video has. Mike probably has a lot to do with it ha.
P.S. love the way Mike's guitar was taped up along EVH lines in his original video of this piece - fab!
Love it!!!
Hi I bumped into your dad at BMW Motorad. Thank him for pointing me towards your music - awesome. Hilton
Hi Hilton, thanks for checking out Mike's music. I hope you got your battery sorted. Cheers, Nick
That was awesome!!! Ahhhhhh, defo need a tab please? RIP Eddie 💜🎶
Wow. I was watching a movie and had to stop to watch this encounter. Loved it but sadly not many of us will ever play like this. Justin you are my favorite aussie. 🤔😍
Brilliant ❤
Hi Justin and Mike. Really enjoyed this video. At about nine minutes 25 seconds into the video, Mike comments that tuning DADGAD down a whole step to CFCDFC makes the strings too loose. Well true that, but if you just use heavier gauge strings, you can put the same tension on the strings and the bridge and it sounds great. I’m a baritone vocal so this is very helpful for me for that reason.. I always keep one guitar set up this way. In fact I even use a wound string for the second, (B) string. This fatten up the tone and take some of the twang out of it, useful when using the four string power cords and droning the first and second strings open over progressions (similar to standard tuning four finger G chord to Cadd9, Dsus4, etc…) Enjoy!
A vid with the guy who taught me to play, and the guy who made me get the guitar i play every day? awesome!
If you do put a tab together for this, ill be all over it!
Next level... wow!
Top lesson! Top entertaining! Top video!
Following the question at 21:54, that little "a-ha" at 22:00 conveys all my disbelief, respect, jealousy, and despair. Two and a half days. The whole thing. JFC... there's the benefit of having honed your skills to a razor's edge. Damn.
Ooh lovely!
Awesome!
Fantastic video. Interesting, it was the lockdown that made me pick up the guitar to learn.
Thank you!🙏🏻
Super cool video Justin and Mike, thanks so much for the insights! Do wish you’d just let the man play though Justin 😂
God level!!
Brilliant.
Mike is so good I reckon he must have one of those "How to Play Guitar" books, with black dots that show you where to put your fingers on the strings. It's the only explanation.
Mind blown
so rad
Awesome. Subscribed to Mike . Justin is my online teacher, You Guys are Both Great. Kick A$$ Video !!
I see that Mike has studied my Intro To Guitar instructional book. Nice.
