to be honest, I'd love to see this as an hour long episode. Don't get me wrong I know you'll get it done in 10 min but it would be nice to see you really sink your teeth into this one
i would love to see 1 hours split up into 40 minutes of which is like 4x10 minutes of say, world modeling/ character modeling/ lighting / animation and 20 minutes to make it a composition, if you lost any time in one of the former parts, you can use the time to make the best of what you came up with
@@Zaire82 yea but really it was like 10 hotkeys, which when I started blender back in the just released as opensource days that is what it was. Speed modeling. One hand on mouse, one on keyboard. And go. I modeled hundred thousand poly models with panels and greebles with like 5 hotkeys. I love the new blender but there was something so satisfying about the old crude blender that no one took to serous. Now our blender is all grown up and I love it.
Watching these videos is like reading knitting patterns, E, S, E, I, E, S, I Look it is a Mech. I, S, E, S, I, E, S, Look it is a Space ship! 😁But seriously, love these videos, I'm a big fan and cannot wait for the "E to extrude, S to Scale" t-shirt to come out.
subscribed...I love how you do this in 10 minutes instead of those typical long videos designed for beginners(there are plenty of those videos out there which a beginner could watch to get up to speed before watching this video.)
Wow !!! You beat yourself at your own game :) To make a MECH robot with a custom armature with inverse kinematics and creating an animation for it .. DONE !!! in under 10 minutes .. with even some time to tweak the MECH robot ... AWESOME !!!
So many informations in a short period of time, and the sound quality/voice is good. Finaly a more than decent Blender channel, just found a gold mine !
Keyboard shortcut tip for you: F2 allows you to rename the active object right in the workspace. Alien Rescue looks like fun! Had me cracking up watching the little preview.
now that takes knowledge of what you are doing ... and the constant reminding yourself of what you are doing is the easiest way to avoid missing something ..while concentrating on what you want to get done
The most important part of that process is the Shift-D to duplicate. As this is the decision key to create a new vertex group to link with, later. Somehow, i forgot to shift-D to make the hand (i was too extatic using E and S). When i selected the arm and pressed L, it selected all the faces of arm & hand. And had to assign a new vertex group myself.
I've only seen a handful of your videos but they are the only ones where I want to instantly hop on blender and start making new stuff with all the things I learn from these videos, calling out the shortcuts is also really helpful thanks a bunch!
Thank you very much for all those tutorials! they are great. I really like to watch you going through it at top speed. And I am not kidding, it is so great to watch and to learn it at this high pace. I´ve to stop at some points, as I miss some steps but when I try it I extrude and scale and Insect and extrude and move and scale and then I notice I´ve improved.
Brilliant mate. I will be uploading my first tutorial in the next few weeks and I have learnt so much from you so thank you and never apologise for repeating the commands. It's what makes it stick!
I really love 10 minute builds, it usually takes me about a hour to go through it. I like the format where you have a tips section at the end. Keep up the good work, you rock!
Thanks for the tutorial, I eventually managed to rig and animate an AT-ST model I created by following this. Yes, you're fast, so I had to watch at slower speed and rewind many times but got there in the end. Now, I need to find out how to get this into Unity and get it moving around.
Imphenzia, I really have to thank so much for this tutorial! You helped me from "Extruding and Scaling" to Modelling a Mech with Armatures! I really thank you so much, Keep it up! :)
An evil part of me actually considered giving this a thumbs down, just so I could finally be the first at something. But this was brilliant. I've been considering creating some robotic characters, and I would have had a heck of a time because I automatically would have used automatic weights and spent hours weight painting to get it to look right. But this absolutely makes sense! Thank you.
Without a doubt the most useful tutorial I've seen on this - a very specific area of 3D modelling that I was interested in and you explained it all in 10 minutes in real time. You've earned a sub :)
Holy crap. I am dying to give this a try. I'm brand new to even thinking of modelling, but you made this look so easy! Can't wait to spend 20 hours doing this :p
Just beginning to learn about rigging now. I am SO glad I found your channel!! Looking forward to going through more of your videos. Love how you explain and show your processes!!
Awesome Video, like Always 😁 For me, your comments are an important part of your Material. Also the debrifing is super duper (like my 2yo. says) You are inspiring!
Actually, the Locust could destroy some of the larger mechs pretty easily, when playing a defensive mission. Though that's only because the A.I. was terrible, because it moved directly toward your base and allowed a locust to get behind the enemy mech and take out its legs. EDIT: By the way, I really do appreciate your videos. I like the fact that when you say it's going to take ten minutes, it actually takes ten minutes without a time lapse or skipping parts of the process. I have seen many videos where it states that they're doing it in x minutes, but that's only because they speed up the video. Plus, I also like how your models are not overly complex. Thank you.
Brilliant video showcasing covering pretty much all the workflow .. That's really useful for intermediate to advanced level who are switching from other 3D apps e.g. Maya/Max to Blender like myself.
I just recently started learning blender and I am so busy so I can barely learn or practice *-* I wanted to say that I find ur content very awesome... keep up the good work *-*
Thank you for your videos, You inspired me to participate in LD again this year. I have been trying blender after seeing your ten minute builds You made it sound simple enough so that I felt confident to make a game. Your texturing technique helped me a lot to create a low polygame as well. I added a trick of my own by mapping the left right UV position to encode some additionnal information ( using shader graph in unity, I either map it to the roughness or displacement to animate some bee wings ).
Yeah I use to play an 8 player battlemech game where the pods use to have about 30 lamps in there that would display weapons systems etc, the core of the system was an Amiga motherboard with an additional board connected to it for 3D. It was an amazing pod, they were really expensive and way ahead of their time for 90s, using actual military hardware ex soviet controls.
Ahh you made a low poly Mechwarrior ^^ Nice. It's amazing how in such a short time you can create a full model, create the bones, rig it and animate it. Now i'm gonna try to create my own mech.
did you need challenges? make an a) flying bird (animated) or an b) running Cat (also animated). I would like to see that in your amazing video style ;)
The reason this method works btw (for people having trouble) is 'cause he purpousedly shift+d the plane after finishing several pieces. That's why they behave in blender as separated meshes. Just a tip in case someone is following along and just selecting the whole mesh when pressing L instead of the foot, the leg, etc
As an artist (digital painter) who is just learning Blender now, I relate with the frustration. But one neat thing I experienced when learning how to paint digitally was that repetition, not quality, was key. As long as I could force myself not to refine each project too much, and just say "this looks like [insert favorite inappropriate word] but I accomplished my goal; now let's do it again", over time, it really paid off. My first digital painting in Photoshop took something like 30 hours, and over about 2 years, I got it down to 8-10 hours. Your mileage may vary, but I think it's universal that we all get better with practice. :)
Keep saying the commands. Nobody should be getting fed up of it.
He should get shirts for the channel with that on the back: "E to Extrude, S to Scale"
thats the best thing you do...... Attracting newer people with simple commands....... looks like blender is easy as you say commands and make stuff

Yeah for real! Saying the commands really helps out. Helps me learn what he's actually doing.
correction,"nobody will "
Honestly the E to extrude, s to scale thing is oddly relaxing. I like it.
It's one of the more chill parts of using Blender, just "pulling" whatever you want to create out of a simple cube.
"E to extrude, S to scale" Omg, now I repeat it every day, like a song)
I felt it when u typed there, such a relaxation
I thought I was the only one

You literally perfectly explained something CG Geek couldn't in half an hour. (And you also modeled and animated the mech)
cg geek is only geek
LoL
Cg geek goes as in depth as he can. Though I like this guy's speed.
CG Geek is good, although very confusing sometimes, but for in depth, I'd say Surfaced Studio is best (very detailed)
I literally take 3 hours to model, rig and slightly animate a cube, and you did it in 10 minutes hahaha you are amazing! Keep the episodes coming
To be fair, he actually knows how to use Blender.
