Having Andy Green as development and test driver and then mentor is a massive plus, to have someone who is used to briefing other pilots about missions and mission reports act as mentor is a unique opportunity.

We should remember - and Andy Green will certainly remember - the selection process for SSC. The shortlist of drivers included people with drag racing experience but the trained discipline of a fighter pilot mindset proved to be best.

Wild to think that I was in primary school when Bloodhound was first announced. Still remember seeing it for the first time in a book I got, big print of the car across two pages. The original blue and orange livery is very nostalgic to me.
Though, there was no mention of "Net-zero/sustainability" nonsense back then. Anything to appease the death cult and continue perpetuating their narrative nowadays. I'm sure the fuel used now will offset the previous 15 years of development, all of which was spent on a project that only exists for the sake of excess... Its almost patronising lol
All the best to them though. Would be cool to see this projects true potential materialise.

One engineering concern is how to make the fuel-burn's changing center of gravity work with the precise flat-out stages of throttle application. If all of that rocket fuel is solid, the rear end will get lighter on the low side. The rudder can help with lateral control. But you might want to have the jet fuel sort of "even-out" the change in weight at precise moments. Spoilers or elevators strictly controlled by the fuel levels or a safety gyro controlling the rudder/steering may be where moveable aerodynamic surfaces are needed. At that speed, the wheels could somewhat add mechanical gyroscopic stability as long as the suspension geometry works in your favor. With such light wheels, you might want the suspension to be mag-lev controlled or have the springs made by the same as an F1 engine valve spring mfg. I'm just spitballing here, as I really don't know what I am talking about. The spring rate has to be dead-precise. Perhaps some type of aero-spring design which manipulates the rate with speed while minimizing drag? Additional aero surfaces create more drag. But an advanced suspension system could really improve ground resistance if digitally controlled. Now to find a budget for all of my untried fantasy;)

I feel that for the speeds required it really has to be a fast jet pilot, but, as has always been the case, certainly post WWII, funding is the major block to these things. It's no longer a wow event it once was to the mainstream of society/media. I remember the news announcing Thrust SSC going supersonic. Interesting? Yes. Did it excite me? No. Bringing in a driver with funding in a direct manner is wishfull thinking, but there's one chap who will, likely as not be interested in this sort of thing from the enginneering to the cockpit, and that's Guy Martin. He's a likeable chap that has a following over a broad spectrum of folk, certainly here in the UK, has plenty of motorcycle experience, and even the lame effort by Triumph to break the motorbike land speed record (shouldn't have used Bonneville). Granted, 400 odd mph is like walking compared to 800 mph, but perhaps there would be some funding from the media. Granted not enough though. I dare say with Guy in the cockpit he would no doubt draw in interest from folk that probably wouldn't take a look, let alone a second one. Plus he likes to get his hands dirty!

I race dirtbikes in desert too. I’m ya man, not only do I have the skills and courage, I understand how the vehicle works and I’d have no issues explaining any problems and how the vehicle feels. I’m a huge inspiration to everyone I meet and that’ll skyrocket driving for you. I’m great in interviews and I live to go fast.
Care not for what I say,
    But the actions I take,
For there what made me the man I am today,

Glad this project didn't die, I remember seeing the mock up at show very early on, so have been looking forward to seeing it establish what might be the final ever LS record, if it reaches or exceeds 1000mph. I reckon it needs either an experienced top fuel drag race driver, or another ex jet fighter pilot. Although a pilot is unlikely to bring any money, a drag racer might be able to raise substantial sponsership. Please let it be a british backer!

So it's about the money, they need a billionaire willing to bankroll it for many tens of millions in return for the ride of a lifetime. But what they really need is a competitor. The real problem is that the thrust driven LSR has become so high that the barrier to entry is enormous both in money and resources and time. The places on earth where it's possible to attempt a run are getting fewer. Britain already holds the record, so what's the incentive for a British team to break it again?

    • @owensmith7530

Aerodynamics, Ground-effect, Sustainable fuel technology, CFD, CAD, Boundary layer dynamics, Active/ Adaptive suspension... - I'm sure a real engineer could give you a much better and more comprehensive list. Perhaps most importantly is the boost it gives to young people considering STEM subjects through the educational programme. As for "courage" I'd bet that most if not all the backers would love to drive it, but they know it's a very specialised skill possessed by only a few. Richard Noble drove Thrust 2 to the 633mph record but knew he wasn't up to the task of taking Thrust SSC supersonic at his age. Now time has caught up with Andy Green so we need someone younger and with the necessary reflexes, driving brain and engineering nous. Watch the documentary on SSC and the section on selecting the driver and you'll see why it's not just a question of balls.

I was hoping this project would be reignited hopefully now with full afterburners and rocket propellent behind it.
Pretty sure I have what it takes. I can keep my eyes closed for several minutes whilst screaming and peeing all at the same time. Probably could manage a little pooh as well for good measure. 😂😂😂

The 'tour' went to further north than Warwick so they obviously want a good old chap from the south, no northern blokes need apply, or Scottish, Welsh or even Irish.

I find it an odd choice to move to a “buy a seat” funding model, I guess everything else has already been tried so good luck to them. We will never know if Andy was stood aside willingly of was pushed but he has been such an amazing ambassador for the project I can’t help but feel a tinge of sadness he won’t be the driver. I was just reading some of the interviews after testing and the car takes quite a lot of driving so good luck to the new pilot your will have you hands full.

Personally I feel a project like this is a drop in the ocean of carbon emissions, but the team is doing what they have to do to get funding.
