- BLOODHOUND's EJ200 jet engine was sucessfully fitted into the car and test fired for the first time in September 2017.
This episode of Cisco BHTV shows how the team installed and tested it, reaching max reheat (aka afterburners).

Great to see Bloodhound nearing completion and starting testing. Human endeavour at it's very best. Looking forward enormously to seeing the record attempts and ultimately the 1000mph goal achieved. Very best of luck to everyone involved.
I can't wait to see this thing break thrust SSC's record, HOLY FUCKING SHIT 1000mph and i love that sound of hybrid rocket engine.

Development stalled in October 2018 when it was announced that the company backing the project, Bloodhound Programme Ltd., had gone into administration, leaving a funding gap of £25 million, which put the venture's future into question.
The project was termed "axed" in December 2018, with plans to return or sell assets, but in the same month Yorkshire entrepreneur Ian Warhurst stepped in to rescue the project by buying the company for an undisclosed sum.
This really sucks, and blows!

I am getting excited as shit everytime I see an update for this car.
MADS I'm bored. Because I realize it's been way to long and it'll take much much longer until we see a record being even "attempted". Good luck waiting for this thing to be finished it won't happen anytime soon unless they're funding parties want it too

Over the last 15 years this project has been soaking up cash and every time I see a video it's a new bunch of faces, project manager, overseas manager, speed testing manager, publicity manager etc, when Donald Campbell built Bluebird in his shed he did it by himself and a mechanic who tuned sports cars, the build, the PR, the funding, even the filming was done on his 16 mm cine camera and it worked, just saying it might be a case of to many chiefs and not enough Indians, a bit like working for the council, loads get spent and nothing happens !

Gableich was such a 'Cry BABY' He didn't follow the RULES established by the FAI and his run was only 'One Way' and he couldn't repeat the effort. It was a 'One Shot' deal for him. If you Don't follow the Rules, You DON'T have a leg to stand on to complain.

I am glad they got a new backer. Such a huge amount of effort to get this far. Andy Greene is my type of brave person I really hope he breaks his own record.To me Donald Campbell lived in his fathers shadow. I really think he would have broken Breedlove’s record if he wasn’t hit by very rare wet weather at Australia’s Lake Eyre.

It's not called Rolls Royce EJ200, it's called EuroJet EJ200. Rolls Royce only has a 33% stake in the engine's development.
I was a bit worried it would melt the wire :-)
presumably a good reason to prefer a jet engine is that its thrust can be throttled. A solid fuel rocket engine can't even be turned off once started.

There would be HP readings, but I am sure if you google the total weight of the car and the engine output you could calculate the BHP. :)
For jet engines BHP is a function of how fast you're going (faster = more power). Because this test was static, the effective BHP was zero!
That said, there are other measures of power for a jet engine. One is the 'Jet Power', the amount of power being used to accelerate the exhaust. In other words, it's the power that contributes to movement of the vehicle rather than spinning the compressor. Some back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest that for this engine the jet power is somewhere in the vicinity of 66200 horsepower.

Eric Loftus bloodhound ssc has kind of become a joke at this point. A project even like this should not have taken this long. Way way way to much engineering for something they aren't even sure will achieve its maximum speed goal of 1000. Also they've run out of funding several times I think now at this point.
It's really not a joke, the car has been fully designed, developed and all the components have been tested, just because they've been having financial issues is no reason to call them a joke.

No, Sledges don't have wheels.
By jet engine standards, 20,000lbs of thrust is not a very high number.
As fighter jet engines go this one is not especially large. The thrust:weight ratio is excellent however, so given the size of their car I think it was a good choice.

I doubt it too, you need a serious amount of Thrust to break the Sound Barrier whitout an Afterburner. Maybe with two It would be possible.

+Anthony Butera Speaking as a Brit (highlighting my bias upfront), the things that we traditionally respect a lot in Britain are discovery, engineering and adventure. That accounts for a lot of our history, and it also makes us keen on chasing these sorts of records... Britain punches well above its weight on the land speed record history!
