    I haven't disliked any of these build biology videos since they've started, but this might be the best. To bring in a type of car that only a very limited number of people know anything about, then literally tear it to pieces in the lot and have it explained from nose to tail, this may have been the most informative video yet. Love seeing you guys step out of your normal zone of vehicle knowledge.

    You ask about any single part on this car, and one - only one - of these guys will speak, and he will tell everything there is to know about that specific part. The other two will shut up until it's their turn to share incredible knowledge about their craft. No room for BS here, just complete understanding of what's going on with every mm of the car and engine. A team doesn't get much better than this.

    I love the gearbox shifter best, it works the same way as the 3 speed in my homemade dragbike except I only have 3 speeds and mine is air pressure not co2 (I was toying with using nitrous to save a cylinder though) and I pull rods through the centre of the cluster which the gears connect to internally rather than using forks, but ramps on the gear throws out the previous gear against air pressure, which means you can shift without letting off the throttle, and it also means if you back out of the throttle to save a run, the gearbox doesnt take a shit as the ramps override the shift pressure and save it from locking up when you back out. That is a truly awesome build and they are cool guys for letting you see under the hoods at how it hangs together.

    • @mrthesquid
      @mrthesquid 6 років тому +2

      In the old days they would run solid wheels, then they switched to aircraft tires and like this team runs the LSR tires. Technology has caught up to be able to make a tire that can handle those speeds. You also have to realize that salt is not like asphalt so the durability isn’t as intense on the tread. It is all more in the construction and sidewall strength. With regards to the fluids, they are using massive pumps to push forward and keeping the fluid flowing helps mitigate the g loads pushing it back. It also helps that they aren’t accelerating like a top fuel car.

    I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. I've always known there's a lot of engineering that goes into land speed cars, but I've never really thought about just how much stuff there is on one that you won't find on any other type of car.
    Next you guys need to get Underground Racing's half-mile record holding Huracan. I want to say it was like 276 or 278 in the standing half mile. 460 mph in five miles is impressive, but almost 280 in a half mile in a street legal (kinda) car is just stupid.

    • @Omen_Seven
      @Omen_Seven 6 років тому +1

      I know their demo car/test mule ran 259 at one point, but i could have sworn I remember seeing one where it ran over 270 and was pushing like 2000 bhp. I might be getting it confused with one of their standing mile runs because I know that Huracan of theirs is a record holder, but I also know the current standing mile record is like 293 or somewhere around there.

    It's nice to see builders who have taken failures and used them to improve what they're doing for next time. We've definitely seen a lot of people who have refined their cars that way on here in the last year or two, but I think the ability to calmly say "We've noticed that our engine fires usually stay down the bottom" and then reworked other systems and even used the failure point of the coolant tanks to help control fires means these guys take the cake. Really interesting video.

      @SuperBobKing 6 років тому +1

      Short answer, no. Production cars end up having a much larger frontal surface area so they have to overcome a lot more drag. As far as I am aware the current limiting factor on the production car speed record is tires.

      It's impossible to get even close to a land speed car in a street legal DOT compliant vehicle. The main limiting factor is the limited aerodynamics of a street legal car. Notice how long and narrow the land speed car is.
