But even if that's true, which I doubt, but let's say it's true; you're taking money from your left pocket and putting it into your right pocket at a later time, and then the government eats the difference, which means you eat the difference, which means again, you're paying for it yourself. Your left pocket is not an unlimited supply of money...haha Government does not efficiently handle money, so they should handle as little as possible.

Trudeau always says the 'right things' but fails to have substance. At the time, when he said that, he said if we put in the right economic conditions in place the budget will balance itself. If only he did just that, but he instead did the exact opposite. He doubled the public debt. Pierre Pollieve actually WILL put in the right economic conditions to balance the budget over time. We could be booming with oil and LNG to fund other economic developments to boost it even further. Hope Pierre does the right thing.

Yep. And only people who make less than something like 20k a year get more money from the rebate. So basically if you're unemployed or only work half the year then the rebate gives you more money. For everyone else the tax just goes up and up.
And the most pernicious part is how it compounds. So all the government calculations are done with the line item carbon tax that shows up on bills. But it doesn't account for other inflation caused by the tax. So the tax applies to farmers who grow the food, then the truckers who ship the food, then the plants that process the food, then the warehouses that store the food, then the grocery store that sells the food. So by the time any food gets to your plate you've had to pay the tax at least 4 or 5 times over. So it's no wonder food prices feel as though they doubled.
Worse, the tax is also taxed. Which is effectively free money for them that stays in the budget.

The one upside of being here haha. Her family is very tight nit - as is the rest of her circle - and I know we can depend on them when we start a family in the near future. I'm fortunate enough to have great savings from being smart with money while in the Marines and zero debt, so while this shit is annoying, it's not hitting me hard enough to the point I'd want to give up that community support.

Yep. People forget that tax dollars are subject to a lot of entropy. Every program is subject to overhead--the cost of implementing and administering it. So a nice chunk of tax revenue always stays with the people in government. In the real world, that's known as overhead or the cost of doing business. It can become prohibitive--but not for a government, because it doesn't have to do anything productive to make money. It just takes it from taxpayers, by force if necessary.

As a Canadian I can tell you that's wrong. I pay more for heating my home and fueling my vehicle than I get back in the rebate. Not to mention the food prices going up month on month.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer has stated time and time again that the Carbon Tax (now renamed the "Carbon Rebate") is costing the average Canadian $1,100 per year, and that number will continue to grow (by 23% on April 1, 2024).
The rule of retail is 5 times the cost to manufacture.
If an product cost a dollar more to produce, it will cost you 5 dollars more.
