  • An Atmospheric River is deluging us with heavy rainfall, and a warning of 100 to 150mm to come. The North and South Alouette rivers are swollen, and a bit of flooding is starting in low areas. As of Noonish on November 15th, the Alouette Dam may be flowing over it's emergency spillway.

I lived in and around Maple Ridge for nearly 30 years; many winters 224th was under water, I recall. I nearly bought a farm there, but after seeing it turn into a bog, with some poor horses standing on a pile of hog fuel to get out of the water, I decided it was a very bad idea.

Thanks for the comment, yes 224th had it worse about a year ago. Almost flooded the corner store then. I've read about a couple major floods from the dam spilling long ago, so I'm glad I live on a hill :)

This is definitely not a rare occurrence in M Ridge. 224th always floods. Also lived there 30 years, but on the ridge so no issues. It is a flood plain there so to be expected. 8 months a year of gray skies and rain, why I left. It is beautiful there though. This is not very newsworthy. 😎🇨🇦

Ya it was only really newsworthy because this is only the second or third time ever that the dam has had to overflow uncontrolled through its emergency spillway, beyond what the gate can control.
