Evacuation On The Coquihalla
Вставка

- This morning we wanted to get some footage of the Coquihalla and the opposite end of the Othello road. We were approached by a homeowner who was evacuated the day before. They wanted us to use our drone to check on the state of their property. Their home was still intact, so their next priority was to gather volunteers to help salvage what they could before the 3rd Atomspheric River!

A weather system called an “Atmospheric river” flowed across the southwest corner of the province and over a period of two days, brought strong winds and near-record amounts of rain, which caused widespread flooding and landslides. So far, one person has died.
Hope, Merritt, Abbotsford and Princeton, which were particularly hard hit, received 100-200 millimetres (or more) of rainfall. And all of the highways connecting Vancouver to the rest of the province were closed due to washouts and landslides, isolating the city from the rest of Canada, at least by road, with significant economic impacts.

Thank you and your family for helping out those affected by the floods.
Glad we were there to help!!
Wow....no words to express sorrow for everyone's loss..
Heres a word for you, Insurance!
It's great that you are documenting all of this but it's sure hard to watch sometimes. So much loss.. I hope society re-thinks where they decide to build. As a prospector I am well aware of how far old channels reach.. If you see round rock you have to think about how it got that way. What's really incredible to see is how fast a river can change course. It's not always millions of years, sometimes things happen very fast.
Yes, it’s been pretty crazy to watch this all happen that’s for sure. That was part of the problem too. The river rerouted itself to bad ground that caused so much erosion in area that weren’t prepared for it.
When the highways are being washed away it's getting bad. I guess we need to start living on the mountain tops.
Down in my home 💔 There was a reason the natives built above the ancient lake beds.
@@bobwoods1302 no, you'd have slides there. Its middle ground you want.
@@theelevvy2024 Thanks to climate change it is now a modern lake bed
Well this is certainly horrendous. Thanks for helping ppl. So sad for loss of lives and livestock..homes.
Definitely an awful time for many in BC:(
So sad, please stay safe, keeping you all in our prayers
Thank you ❤️
This is so sad to see, I have friends in Princeton who lost everything with the flooding. Thanks for the update, very much appreciated
We really hope your friends are ok:(. We saw on the news what’s been happening there and it’s been a favourite place of ours to visit. It’s been a heartbreaking time for so many.
I can’t imagine the stress of having a home severely flooded or washed away by a river. For most people that is their biggest investment.
Well, I'm in Central California near Monterey Bay area and were so dry down here. Today was almost 80 and i have volunteer tomatoes growing and blooming. They started in September.
Cattlemen are in a panic because hay is extremely expensive and we got some rain in October and now the grass is drying out. Another point im glad you folks in Canada are working together and helping each other as a family within a nation. We here in the United States are fighting each other over the most ridiculous issues, behaving like adolescents and immature adults. You folks in Canada are joining together and that shows maturity and a degree of spiritually. Be safe, this is a La Nina year
And it should weaken some after mid January if forecasts are correct. I hope they are correct because we need rain down here. God speed and be strong.
It’s been really nice to see the community come together for this. Sorry to hear about your drought:( Hopefully things change and you get some rain and find yourselves back on track. Take care and good luck!
I know! And you guys in California get next to nothing for rain, while other places are flooding! Mother F'ing nature is a BITCH, that's all I gotta say...
Reminds me of the terrible flooding in the Alberta area. Many who lived by rivers in the Calgary, Bragg creek, and Canmore areas also lost their homes and have rebuilt. This is the chance you take when you live by a river in a province with high rainfall. Another Pineapple Express coming through. El Niño year.
And it's also what happens when the responsible engineers, municipalities & especially this province & Canada experts & politicians have completely ignored the risks & advice after costly research; Horgan just engaged this time, but long after the previous flying river!
Didn't it wind up actually being La niña instead of El Niño?
These homes were not built on the river. The river rerouted itself. This isn’t an area that usually floods, but because of the systems that came through and the water backing up further down, this is the result.
It is a La Ninã year, not El Nino. That's why it's so wet there. Meanwhile in Alberta, those storms become chinooks, causes snow in the mtns but warm and dry in Calgary. 11c overnite, 15c tomorrow, no snow.
What’s tough is that this is just the start of the BC rainy season so it’s unclear as to the ultimate outcome of this series of weather events. Question is now that Mother Nature has set a new datum as to what is possible re rain runoff what will you build back and what if anything should be allowed to revert to nature versus rebuilt.
The timing couldn't have been any worse with winter setting in.
by christmas or sooner the freezing level will drop in the mountains resulting in snow at higher elevations and less water downstream like every winter for the last epoch.
This was definitely a bad time for a weather event like this one.
@@AdventuresRUs without a doubt and its not over yet but it will be sooner than later, here in central bc i am rained out today even and in a few nights minus thirteen, be safe out there.
Too bad you can't just sell all your extra water to Cali, they have the exact opposite problem.
Thank you. I have family there. Thank you for sharing what is happening. Thank you for helping them
We hope your family is doing ok❤️❤️
@@AdventuresRUs yes, they seem to be made of resilient steel. Homeless and less than three meals a day. It has bewildered us the people, including my family, are every day people who have quietly with no complaints become warriors of hurricane force winds and mountains that walk. Many saved lives, cattle, chicken. Tirelessly, night, day, seven days a week working to help each other. The humanity, the mental and shear physical strength of the people in lower BC has amazed us. We wish them God's speed to recovery.
Thank you for helping complete strangers that happen to be my family. I have a hard time watching this and feel complety useless sitting on the sidelines.
You’re related to Sue? It’s been very hard for those who can’t travel to come and help. I’ve heard this a few times now:(. We were glad to help and were at the right place at the right time.

OH!! most love and prayers coming to you all!!!! My heart is breaking for you!!!!
Thank you for helping those in need.
My heart goes out to all the people! Thinking of you ALL!
I have so many great family memories at the tunnels. It’s just awful seeing houses that once indicated we almost arrived, now washing away. These homes weren’t even that close to the river. Just heartbreaking
It’s crazy how the river just swallowed up a forest and brought the river to their doorsteps:(
Thank you for showing us it's hard to watch when you see things like this. People helping each other in times like this is what matters.I hope that everyone can get there life's back together after this event. Thank you stay safe. John
Thanks for stopping by and watching this one John, we appreciate it. It was definitely a time communities needed to come together and help one another. We wouldn’t have gotten through this if so many people didn’t offer their help to others, it was quite the experience to be a part of. Hope you’re doing well, take care!
I'm so sorry this is happening.

Thank you for stopping by our channel, watching and commenting on a few of our videos. We appreciate it! Definitely sad to see how fast all this happened and how ppl lost so much. Take care and happy holidays.
I am just crying for you all up there. People don’t understand flooding and loss unless they have lived through it. I have been flooded out many times. If anything it makes a community build tighter bonds. We are helpless when Mother Nature takes her turn, we all need to listen to her as she’s crying out. Be safe.
Sorry to hear you’ve experienced this before!! It’s been sad to see so many lose their homes. Hearing those who’ve shared their stories has been eye opening at how fast things can happen and the real dangers they were facing. What’s left behind is a reminder of the difficult times ahead the sad memories for the people who lost so much:( Hope you stay safe❤️
This is a great video to remind everyone to donate every month to the red cross or salvation army rather than rely only upon government. You never know when your house could burn or a flood, you can be next. If you donate every month you help folks like this and one day, you can call upon them yourself. My charity is the salvation army because I like what they do for the homeless and recovering addicts and my local food bank.
No one really donates to The Red Cross anymore here after a scandal where they took the money. Our mayor has been non existent during all of this. Didn’t attend any of the community efforts while two thousand extra people were stranded here. Never helped serve a hot meal, or make a call for help. He actually never issued an evacuation order either for the people who lost everything until it was too late. This has been a time where our community relied on each other and the kindness of their neighbours. I agree that donating to trusted organizations isn’t a bad idea, just like volunteering your time is important too. Take care and stay safe:)
@@AdventuresRUs , that's inexcusable, I don't actually donate to the red cross, only the salvation army. The salvation army has a church and thrift store in my town, so I can see their efforts. I definitely don't like to rely upon government and the red cross will be on my naughty list for sure.
Thank you for all you are doing.
You said it: Take care and stay safe....Cheers...
the entire valley was the river channel at one point and time its not the first time its ever flooded like this
We’re certainly aware of that, but that doesn’t change the devastation some ppl are dealing with.
Oh well, nothing to worry about then.
What a dumb comment.
I live in Merritt we all were evacuated at the time. Its much better now, but still feeling the effects of the flood even after almost three years.
Yes, it’s sad to see the damage that storm caused and I’m sure many

Pretty much!
The insurance companies saw this coming. That's why our policies are written the way they are. As they say in Vegas, "the house always wins", that's how insurance companies are so profitable. When I lived in California homeowners in many areas couldn't afford flood, earthquake or fire insurance.
stay safe...and may God Bless you and watch over you all..
This is the video I was hoping to see for the homeowners that approached you were prob Sue and Henry of the Eco Lodge in the video...that was their property and i am so very thankful it was spared but also very saddened by all the devastation...thank you again for your videos for we really needed to see how everyone was doing.
Yes, it was your friends:) I’m glad these videos were able to put your mind at ease some in regards to what was going on with those two. For people that are familiar with the area, such as you, it’s pretty crazy to see the changes. Fortunately they’ve got a good road crew together and have been busy working in the area rebuilding the road. I'm in California where we are still dry. Kinda wonder how Jamie Davis Towing from Hope is making out. Seems like his yard and the road to it has been hit hard in previous years.
If we need a pipeline it needs to be a water pipeline from these wet areas to the drought areas.
@@dawnbroadbent Most of the water in the prarie come from the US side, perhaps finding a way to harness that could help you guys?
I haven’t heard much fro Jamie Davis Towing. I expect he and his fam are concentrating on their own homes and yard as well as helping the flood victims in Hope. I hear part of Hope are a risk or are flooding now too.
@@brasilgirl2848 I was thinking of a water pipeline from B.C. to California, not to Alberta. Ideally though would be to get new solar desalination tech right from the ocean on to land in California.

Wow!!! Be safe!!
Thank you and same to you.
Pretty sad that some people won't even be able to rebuild because the land they had is gone. Flood maps and preventive measures should be taken every few years not every hundred years. You can't always prepare for everything but after seeing the way this river winded down for the first time a few weeks ago it's easy to see this was only a matter of time. Hope the area is able to recover and everyone stays safe.

Flooding sucks ,having your home swept out in to the river and it disappears sucks on a different level. Had family get whacked twice ,it sucks ,long hard work to save and rebuild. My sister moved and never lived in her house after it was all fixed . I own a 245 Gallon a minute trash pump that I never expected to buy and own . Thankfully have not had to use it in 10 years .

SMART!! PUT your house Directly next to a river or literally on it. OMG IT FLOODED who would of thought. They redirected the river 100 yrs ago and now it corrected itself.
If you apply your logic we may as well not have any cities as they all have buildings near the river. These river and creeks swelled over a hundred feet wider in sections. It’s not like the homes were built on the edge.
The houses were not built that close to the river! The river expanded over a hundred feet wider and a few dozen feet higher almost overnight. What you are seeing is after the second flooding, and now we expect a third. Most of these homes are over forty years old and the area has never had a risk of flooding before.
These houses were not directly on the river.
If this rain occurred several hundred miles north it would have just been a passing story in late night news, but when you build your house IN a river valley....
Flooding can happen anywhere with the right amount of rain. Let’s not forget BC has long everlasting rainy seasons and typically we’re ok.
Harap semua nya membaik seperti biasa..

It is :(
That's what happens when you live down by the river!
They didn’t used to be. The river rerouted itself.
Could this be liquidfaction happening at BC as well rain ? God spell returning to normal..
Is there a reason you know of why someone doesn’t pull that house and garage and anything else that might go, back away from the river to avoid the polluting the river? Just can’t access?
It would collapse. Houses are not made to be towed, and a house in a river is like a grain of sand on a beach there. There are more important issues in a flood like that.
Did anyone think of getting some winches and pulling that double wide as far back from the bank as it can be skidded? Might not fall in the river then. .
Great idea, but that didn’t happen and I don’t think it will:(
@@AdventuresRUs That's too bad. We've heard that sumas prairie land owners couldn't even get flood insurance. Is anyone in this area insured for this?
More than likely those near the river wouldn’t have been:(
@@AdventuresRUs i watched your more recent video that showed that house still there. If they don't have flood insurance, there's nothing to lose in trying to yank it away from the river.
Or when the overflow subsides. They could put it on stilts. Huge concrete pillars i mean. If it's not down the river there's lots of options.
Super sad 😢
It has been very sad to watch those going through all of this :(
