Boats change hands so many times and registrations are never up to date ( fed responsibility)so you couldn't really do that as you'd never find the last owner that dumped the boat
@@drumswest5035 worse than Transport Canada being the only registrar, it is optional to register. Registration is only recommended if you are planning on taking the boat across borders to other countries, the restriction by insurers that you can only travel to Puget Sound or Southeast Alaska where the registration isn't needed means there is no incentive for people to pay the registration fees.
you may not find the last owner but you could find the registered owner then from there trace it to the last owner. May not work 100% of the time but there are a lot of people that may have receipts, contact info etc of who they sold the boat too (especially if you pressure them with the fine themselves....they will try to flip quickly) @@drumswest5035
@@darrylb4048to get the radio license is federal as well, but it doesn't require the boat itself to be registered. it's the radio, radar, gps and ais that are registered.
Kudos to this guy and the others that came together to get this area cleaned up!! Really nice to see the cleanup. There’s a need for much, much more immediate follow up so the last owners of the abandoned items can be made responsible for the cleanup & it’s much more immediate. Then there’s less environmental impact, fewer dangers and a less $$ to the Government costs of cleaning up. Once several people have been prosecuted & it’s made very public, then there’s a much better chance that others in the future will arrange for the item to be properly disposed of.
About time! Have been on the water several times on that stretch of the Alouette. Sad to see people getting away with abandoning boats for others to clean up.
Wow some good news! Geez where did that come from... no sensationalism or robot script reading! I think this is the first time I gave a like to a CBC video on UA-cam and hopefully not the last!
The government collects fees with their boat # system but. they provide no way of dealing with the old boats…which is exactly what these fees weee supposed to be for. Failure of government 👎
the Spanish were able to get up into Harrison Lake and the silver mines through Pitt Poulder, until the Dutch showed up, drained it, and homesteaded the ground. It's now a very large golf course!!
Good job. I would love to work for that clean up company. After almost 30 years working for city government in Utah I will be 57. Still young enough to have fun cleaning up nature. :) have Kayak will travel
If the derelict boats are from the 40s or 50s, there no one left alive to fine sadly. Times were probably different back then. People probably abandoned stuff with no thought to the local environment or wild life or they ran out of $$$ to maintain or upkeep their watercraft and scuttled them down river with no one the wiser. I hope some of them are still alive somewhere to come forward and pay up for the damage to the waterway and wetlands.
@@HalcyonGuitarsI know some hoarders down the road. They property is an eye sore and bad for the environment. You can pay to clean it up too. The cost is non-negotiable and we refuse to tell you how much it costs.😂

It is all good but should have never been allowed to get to the point of abandonment in the first place .All boats have numbers and registrations no matter how old and should be put back on to the last owner or estate . I have lived in the lower mainland all my 65 years and as a kid the river was my playground .From Steveston to the upper Pitt to Hope where I live today. Dude the fuel leaves by water replacing it It’s a weight thing Oil does it too The rest will rot but years yes. Long gone that oil and fuel Should never have been allowed to get this far though with todays environmental concerns !

This is excellent news, always good to see this type of initiative. Our waters are priceless.
Those boats have been there for as long as I can remember. It's nice to see it all being cleaned up.
Thank you Mark and everyone.
It really does not matter how much it cost, it just needs to get done.
... They should try to find the owners and send them the bills.
Great to see. Thanks to the group work and TC. Really enjoy canoeing on the river.
And they’re going to look up the registration of each of these boats and then bill the owners for abandonment? People need to be accountable

Vancouver always telling industry they destroy the environment, meanwhile look at there waterways in their backyard
Room temperature IQ?
What does Vancouver have to do with rural people dumping in the river? Nobody in Vancouver has a boat lol.
Any salvageable boats?
Hell yes, that is super gross seeing all that old decaying boats 🛥️ there thank you for getting it cleaned up🙏✅

Clean it up own boat need held accountable for this mess
I'd like to have that old tugboat.
At some point owners need to pay for thier old boats and docks.. The idea we as tax payers pay for this is absurd..
How can a public agency decline to state the cost to the public!? Shouldn't you be asking some more questions there?
Money well spent. There were a couple of really old looking boats there a few years ago that were quite photogenic but the garbage needed to go.
I just hope they remember to replace the area excavated with something to act as a fish shelter

Sunken ships are excellent habitats for marine life and shelter from strong water flow
A recycling deposit should be levied on boats at purchase for end of life disposal costs
