I met a woman's female Giant Schnauzer the other day and she was the sweetest, most beautiful, dog with the softest black coat. What an honor to pet her and she even gave me a kiss. Shortly after, we had to put our wonderful Boxer down and, although I'm still mourning, I am considering one of these. My husband worked for the government and we took an assignment to Germany. That's what we got our 1st giant. I trained her and we never had a dog so smart. We were over there for 5 years, She went to restaurants with us, On trains , On gondolas when the kids went skiing in the mountains. There wasn't any place we couldn't take her, Even To the local fest. The Germans always asked if they could feed her A sausage 1st But she would never take food without us giving permission. I have a Black Russian Terrier and a Giant Schnauzer. She is a great dog. Very protective of the property. The BRT protects us. My GS is very active and affectionate. She is 4 now and still a puppy. She needs about 2 hours a day of romping in the backyard. I have heard that GS are aloof and required a proper greeting, but ours loves everyone that comes through the door. Great video. I own a miniature schnauzer. He is all of those things that you said about your Giant, minus his size. Loyalty, companionship, and watches over his home. Very protective of my wife, which I love about him 😍
I miss my giant so much. He was great protection when people first saw him but he would only have licked them to death. Fantastic, deep, loud guard bark. He loved running in the leash free and going for hikes. He behaved best when he had to earn his rewards. He loved learning. Right on with your comments about training. See you in heaven Blitz.
My grandparents had a miniature Schnoz. Feisty lady, scary intense watchdog. Good job she wasn't any bigger, would have been deadly. She loved Gramma to no end, and Grandad gave her the best name ever: Schnapps.
I’ve noticed smaller dogs are more “aggressive” than larger ones. It’s like they’re frustrated because they have the mind of a giant but are stuck in the body of a little guy
A friend of mine is a police dog handler. He said the toughest jobs by far are to calm down rioting football-hooligans. And the easiest way to achieve is launching a Giant Schnauzer unit.
Love my giant schnauzer! She is such an amazing guard dog that loves to swim and even loves being groomed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this breed if you’re looking for a guard dog that is so very loyal and just loves their family with their whole heart. I will definitely be getting another.
2nd type actually called Pepper & Salt and in Europe is actually categorized as a separate breed than the American Coated Black ones.. I own both.. Great Dogs I must add.. Great Video too! Thank you! : )
The most common colour for a GS in the UK is black although you can occasionally get a pepper and salt. Most standard Schnauzer's are pepper and salt black is less common. I have a black mini schnauzer but whatever colour they are fantastic dogs.
I have a 9 month old salt and pepper pup, she's basically a Velcro dog. Very mouthy though, especially with people she likes (which isn't a whole lot of them actually).
I had a standard schnauzer growing up and you described him to the T! I had a friend who was deathly afraid of him, but one day I convinced her to tag along with me on a walk with Ozzie. He was fine with her the entire time, even let her pet him. But the moment we got home and she was on his territory, he quickly let her know just because they walked together, it didn’t make them friends 😂
I own a 3 year old Male Giant. Extremely important NOT to over exercise them when they are young pups and growing up. To protect their joints and bones while growing. Roughly 5 minutes per month of age and no more. (Per day that is). They have huge amounts of energy but you have to limit it. You have to PARENT them. They take upto 3 years to mature which is longer than a lot of breeds. A lot of skin problems can be down to diets. We feed ours on raw food and have had zero health problems. Do some research. He looks magnificent and is as strong as an ox. Love my dog to bits. Now that he is grown up he needs huge amounts of exercise and your attention. Easily 2 hours a day of walks. He's like Velcro and wants to be with me all the time. Every time we go out people stop us, literally every time. He's that handsome.
i had two miniature schnauzers- one sadly passed away a month ago. i've loved both of them immensely and they're the sweetest dogs in the world. i'm looking at gettin a giant schnauzer right now and i'm absolutely in love with the breed
We have a 20 month old GS and you’ve described her perfectly. The most athletic dog I’ve ever seen, she can jump a 4 1/2 ft. Fence no problem! Super loyal and sweet but if you’re a stranger with bad intentions she’ll kill you.
4 foot is nothing, they jump that effortlessly. I have photos of mine jumping 4 foot hurdles on my gab account ( Daren from Delaware) . And Zero doubts about that kill you part . They can be hilarious and then equally Serious dogs when time arises . Take care of her and she'll take care of you.
I've always wanted one of these. But I don't purchase from breeders & I've NEVER come across one in shelter or rescue, they must be great dogs that stay with primary owner for life. Glad to learn about health issues.
All schnauzers are great I have a mini! They are the best! Minis are great watch dogs. They are very wary about strangers. He’s a good judge of character.
Genetics matter . Delaware State Police imported about 13 of them in the 90s and sent all but 2 back bc they were toooo much dog for the new K9 Handlers. One that stayed is featured on The Real Stories of the Highway Patrol . K9 Bandit , he was shot in the front leg and still ran about 100 yards and apprehended the suspect. I owned Motomo, who's sire was Ax von den kiwi , who was imported from Germany as a retired Border Patrol dog. Super intelligent dogs with everlasting energy and stamina. Miss my guy big time. He was 79#'s of solid muscle . Athletic as heck. I only let him do this once bc it tears up their shoulders but , I saw him jump a 7 foot vertical wall. My fellow handlers nicknamed him "Mottsinator" bc he was so intense during protection training.

However I don't have a lot of experience with dealing breeders. What should I be looking for? Thanks , Tony Ps, looking forward to that Belgian Tervuren review. Thanks again!

Love mine ! 9.5 years old and still a lean machine loving but mean machine ! Where kids are concerned, they need to be exposed to them young. Make sure they meet plenty of them. Even at that you need to watch them first 2 years because of dominance issues but once they know their place, they will protrect the kids they like. Awesome dogs but you need to be in control their whole life. Only downside, mine has never backed down from a fight and thats an issue depending on who is walking them. Well trained and listens but once they don't like a dog, it is for life and its go time any time they cross paths.
I have had 2 beagles (one VERY HIGH drive, the other a sweet baby.) I am looking at getting a family companion/protector next....either a rhodesian ridgeback, giant schnauzer or Mastador next. Having trouble choosing! Excercise requirements make nervous with this breed as I have 4 young kids and not a ton of extra time.... Not sure I have 2 hours to run, daily (same issue with the ridgeback)....everything else about them, I love. Thanks for sharing!
The pizza guys knock and move back and stand 15ft from my door. My Giant will sound off and slam into the door. Extremely high energy, yes, walks in the current negative temperatures still have to happen. Not for lazy people. I can't second enough about a trainer that has experience in working breeds. Good boy Zander.
Our giant schnauzer is an 85lb death yorkie that absolutely loves our family and the people close to us that she’s used to coming over. Everyone else she wants to eat them. She’s a handful, this is not the type of pet that is easy to take out in public where other people might approach you or them. They are very wary of strangers, mine ignores people on walks or at the park, but if someone approaches our space she becomes a T-Rex.
I have always had German Shepherds. I have never had a professional trainer. I am no pro for sure but my GSDs were well socialized, loyal, and listened to hand and voice commands. The call back was instant. No treat training. Just for our love they did as asked. I was able to walk them off leash. My last one I was able to take anywhere off leash and she never left my side. I found it very easy to train them. Don't get me wrong I put the time in. My question is. How are GS comparable to GSDs? Will I be able to have a BBQ with 75 or so people in the yard? Is their anxiety to much? I am considering one because my wife can't do the fur of a GSD again. I have never met a GS but they are beautiful and my research is pushing me hard to find one.
Love the show Liam, think its possible for you to do one on Clumber Spaniels? as a rare breed we never get to be in the spotlight, so it would be nice;) Merry Christmas.
This temperament review fits my GSP to a tee. Have you encountered GSPs or Weimaraners that behave this way? My dog is mix GSP-Weim. We got him when he was 1.5 years old and neutered. He was stranger aggressive when he arrived. He was actually a Foster dog and he was returned twice so we decided to put him through regular and advanced obedience and adopt him from the rescue. The obedience was super helpful but I have not kept up on it. When I was taking it seriously, I could bring him into stores and all sorts of situations and he was so obedient and did not do any of the behaviors that he does when he is in charge and I am lacking and being lazy I laughed when you almost said bite you "in the nuuu...arm" My GSP-Weim literally bit a guy in the dic...groin this past summer. He was on leash & the person came within his reach. I ended up calling the police because the guy would not show me if he broke the skin and I was very worried he would go home and self mutilate are some thing and then my dog would be in trouble. Thankfully The police obliged took a look, & he only got the fabric. To my surprise they did not even mention deeming him a dangerous dog. Again we were on leash and this guy came within my dogs 6' leash.
I’m just a regular guy from nyc that likes this dog I want to get one from a pup. I’m not getting it for the guard or protection I just like the type of dog and I have no intention of making it a guard dog. Should i?
It won't matter...it's in their blood & soul. Schnauzers, regardless of their size, are territorial AF. They're instinctively protective, *utterly* fearless, and very, *very* smart. Know that for a fact going in, and accept it before you pull the trigger on owning one. Frankly, this is a dog (the Giant breed) that MUST BE TRAINED, and socialized, or you're setting yourself up for a major headache, and an unhappy doggo.
Friggin awwesome swedda and dawg bro..........no for real I love schnauzers they are incredible dog as long as you don’t mind dealing with a stubborn hyper smart four-year-old in personality you will undoubtably phone love with this dog breed
I'm 2 years late but here to say you will be fine. They handle crowds no problem. Just socialize them early and often. Ours is awesome.
Felix is my 3rd Giant-what wonderful wonderful beings...and they have a sweet goofy side but god help the intruder
Keep up the good work. Your channel is going to blow up soon!
Much appreciated!!!
Love the show Liam, think its possible for you to do one on Clumber Spaniels? as a rare breed we never get to be in the spotlight, so it would be nice;) Merry Christmas.
Doug thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours! Yes for sure. I LOVE the clumber spaniel one of me all time FAVORITES! Great pick
When I was taking it seriously, I could bring him into stores and all sorts of situations and he was so obedient and did not do any of the behaviors that he does when he is in charge and I am lacking and being lazy
I laughed when you almost said bite you "in the nuuu...arm" My GSP-Weim literally bit a guy in the dic...groin this past summer.
Such a rad sweater. Wish i had this one.
Love your sweater....Merry Christmas!😊
❤️ Erica thank you you’re so awesome! Thank you so much for all the great comments keeps me going!
@@LiamMurphydogs thanks for making me laugh.(lost 2 dogs the last 2 years)..and love the education about the dogs!😊
Love that Boston accent.
Man, I was born and raised in MA/NH, sometimes I miss the accents.
They are mixed with German shepherds Rottweilers and doberman's so technically the Giant Schnauzer is the best protection dog you can find 😱
bella recensione Liam, un saluto dall'Italia, and a big hug from my giant Ragnar and miniature schnauzer Milù :-)
Thanks so much for sharing this info
One of the best intros 😂
Love these breeds I have a little miniature schnauzer ❤️❤️
You're sweater is awesomeness and tuna casserole is damned good
I was here just for the sweater

Kid you’re awesome! Merry Christmas and thank you for being here since the start. You’re doing big things you’re way ahead of the game kid seriously super grateful to have you on the team!
Thank you merry Christmas to you and the family
BEST DOGS IN THE WORLD. PERIOD.
Have a good Christmas brother
Merry Christmas to you as well! Thanks for always being in my corner!
Liam Murphy of course man I got you!
...and they gahded brewerries, so you kinda owe'm to take them into your house and treat them like kings. Lmao!!! Best line ever
Bro I love the vids but why do you have a tent in your lounge room?
Also, they are not socially feared like GS, Doberman, Rottweiler. Unfortunately insurance rates and renting can be an issue.
They definitely are the cardigan of dogs.
Hahaha I like your dry humor 🤣 Loved this video
Hello! What do you think is the best Flock Guardian dog breed out there? I am looking into homesteading/farming/ranching cattle, goats, etc, and just want to get an idea of the best guard dog out there. I have heard that Anatolian Shepherds are the best, but are there any other breeds that are worth looking into? Thank you so much, and, like always, I love your content!
S. Gardiner I had a maremma sheepdog. Excellent livestock guardian dog.
I have a miniature schnauzer is and they are very good dogs. They don’t shed hair at all I noticed
You sound like you live near me... I live in New Hampshire. Did you get your dog in the area? Am looking for breeders but not finding much around here... Thank you so much!
This is too funny to me because A) I am looking at the schnauzer or giant schnauzer and B) I have recently noticed that I talk more and more like this guy every day. Lifelong MAsshole and recent Southern NH transplant.
Your channel is great for someone looking to adopt or shop.
I love your Grandmother’s taste 😏👍🏼
Just curious if you think a male giant would be good with a male cat?
Well I was planning on bringing over a tuna casserole but now I’m not so sure.
The dogs beard gives santa a run for its money merry xmas Liam
Merry Christmas to you as well! Thank you so much for all support!!
What are they like with other pets in the house?
