As much as I like Permanent vacation and Pump, I wonder what they would have sounded like with this gritty raw production
This song was the Joe Perry Project's first solo single in 1980. Aerosmith redid it with new verses for their first 1985 comeback single. They play it as their first song live in 2017. Joe Perry has gotten a lot of mileage out of this great song! 😎
Mike Ratherson I have that album
@@timhoovermusicman I do too.
Joe Perry ROCKS!!!
ua-cam.com/video/logDHc2XzXI/v-deo.html
not original JPP lineup but you get the idea…
Saw the joe perry project at a civic arena in 1980 it was awesome
For the history buffs...this was filmed at the Orpheum in Boston, local radio in Mass and R.I. advertised to call for tickets if you wanted to watch the filming of a Aero video. It spanned about 5 hrs and they also played other Aero material between takes. They did lots of takes to make the video. They probably played at least 5 other songs to thank the fans in attendance. I got my free tickets through a radio station. The band was pumped cause they were back together...happy new year!
Really? But definitely not New Year’s Eve 1984 because I was at that show. I wish they had played this and My Fist Your Face!
I was lucky enough to be there both nights. There were only 50 or so of us the first night and they didn’t finish shooting so they took our names and reserved the first three rows for us and told us to wear the same clothes. I’m actually in the video near the end
This is a different edit than the video they use to show on V66
@@sturodriveWhat are the differences?
At the beginning when the bootleggers are in the apartment, they're talking like in this edit but the full song doesn't start until they leave the apartment .

Can't believe this isn't one of their popular songs! This is epic old-school Rock!
this album when released in early november 1985 would only sell 100,000 copies, those are the real fans, them mother fucking 100,000, facts are facts.
@Fred Jaminson Bro, it's far better than Draw, listen to Reason a Dog, My Fist Your Face, Darkness and On and on. You are so right about Draw the Line though, along with Right in the Nuts, I mean Night in the Ruts, give it a 9th Chance, Done with Mirrors kicks ass!!!
It's one of the popular ones with people in the know.
well that and the song is a Joe Perry Project song before it ever was an Aerosmith song. It does kick ass though.
@Fred Jaminson my friend, "sight for sore eyes", "critical mass", "kings and queens", "can't get it up", Draw The Line is an excellent album in my opinion, so fun
This whole album is underappreciated.
Yep
You are so right . I bought the album when it came out mostly because of this song but the whole album was excellent .
Wasn't this album the first after they cleaned up their substance addictions ?
You could make an argument that they were even bigger after sobering up , even if it it was more commercial then their early albums .
Their first 3 - 4 albums had no filler tracks on them at all .
correct 100
One of the greatest come back albums ever, imho
Absolutely
One of the most underrated Aerosmith albums ever in my opinion.
Underated is right. The entire album kicks ass. Rock and roll at its best.
Love the song and 'Done With Mirrors' - is the last great, old school AEROSMITH album!
Honkin on Bobo was amazing for blues and musicianship wise
I love Done with Mirrors but they also had some good albums after that.
@@jimtoms7591 the next 4 were my favorites
@jasonmorgan8110 The next albums Aerosmith did they brought in outside writers like Desmond Child to write the songs due to their writing creativity waning.
One of the greatest "lesser-known" tunes. KICK ASS!!
The songs on this album are the most hard rock and simple. I love it.
That slide guitar is the bomb. A solid rock n roll jam right there
How could 57 people not like this song. This kicks ass and is definitely a driving song
sweet mis34y
Riff5150 those 57 haters must be Selina Gomez fans
democrats, do not like themselves.
😂😂😂
I just found this song...and I can't tell you how much I love it. It's utterly brilliant. Great beat, fantastic guitar, and awesome vocals.
LONG LIVE THE *REAL* MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this song has a lot of words for letting the music talk
The tend to exaggerate
Yep it's called singing
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sing
@@joint2joint2k okay captain obvious
clever
the Joe Perry Project version has better lyrics and melody, it's a better record too
One of their greatest hits, even though not officially.
+Newsensation1978 definately....one of their best!
I know...I LOVE this song! Although this album"bombed", this song and video kicked ass! I remember picking up the album at Camelot Music in 1985 for like $3...either that or I stole it...can't quite remember. But my buds and I loved this song! They were considered to be washed up, drugged out at this point, but I always thought "hey, drugs worked for the Beatles, Zep, Floyd...so why not Aerosmith. I mean, come on...anyone who says that "Permanent Vacation", a sober album, was better than "Toys In The Attic" or "Rocks", not so sober albums, has a distorted view. Maybe I do too...but I sure as shit liked "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" WAAY better than "Crazy" or "Angel"...just saying.
Yeah I think I know exactly what you mean. I first heard this in my sister's boyfriend's car like 23 years ago, on a worn out tape, that he probably stole from Camelot or some shit too! He was that type of guy.
Anyway, he loved this song, and he told me the SAME EXACT things about Aerosmith.
Tickle - Agreed!!
@@AllhailtheUS They cleaned themselves up and started making pop songs that made them a lot of money. But this album was their last great one!
I don't care what anyone says - 'DONE WITH MIRRORS' was a great album.
For sure
This was their LAST great album! Not a bad cut on the album, and it sounds like it was made by 70s Aerosmith, not the pop music they put out ever since.
I saw them at MSG on this tour. Ted Nugent opened up. Compound bow and all.
I think it's awesome, too!
A very good and hard sounding album
I recall the day this album was released. Aerosmith was getting over a very difficult time in the Band's history and they had to reestablish themselves to their fans. This album did that.
That would have been the bandwagon type fans. The TRUE FANS like myself that stuck with Aerosmith The Joe Perry Project and The Whiford ST. Holmes Band didn't miss a beat. It was just the next chapter for us. Still a great day just the same. LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKIN! And Always keep in touch with MAMA KIN!
No you are wrong dude. This album almost broke the band again. They struggled hard to finish it. It was on the Walk This Way single w RUN DMC that made them get their sh*t together and create Permanent Vacation. The album that brought Aerosmith back for good. Say what u want about Bruce but they wouldn't have survived the 80s and 90s with this 70s hard rock. The album has it's moments but it was very outdated in style when it was released.
@@haraldsletterod Outdated in style? I saw that tour and people loved this music. The Band may have had trouble with the album but it was well recieved by fans.
Who cares?
Come out rockin hard and fuck it!
This should be played at EVERY Aerosmith show ever. This would drive the crowd nuts.
It did. 🤟🏼😮🤘🏼😛😝😜🤪
Saw it in ‘93 and made it my last show of theirs because I was chasing it hhaha
Such an amazing song live. Saw them many times in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. Draw the Line and Let the Music do the Talking are easily my favorite live.
I'm a little surprised this wasn't the video that made Aerosmith's first comeback. It's excellent, like these guys never missed a beat.
A local Boston version of MTV, V-66 played it every 30 minutes! I was supposed to be at this show too
Nycholas17 yeah. Permanent Vacation was the come back, which was good album, but this is just as great
@@luvittodeath7031 This blows the shit outta PV, which is a decent pop rock album, but ultimately, meh.
@@screwyootube1 Jesus Christ I was an idiot 2 years ago that album fucking sucked except for like 3 songs
I don't think MTV ever played it! I watched MTV all the time, never saw it once. Walk This Way with Run DMC was Aerosmith's introduction to the MTV world, or definitely to my MTV world.
This wouldn't have been as popular as the Bruce Fairburn produced pop that Aerosmith did for the rest of the decade, but for me this is the hardest rock Aerosmith did in the '80s
Yup... they went pop after this, and never looked back. Too bad.
@@screwyootube1 Permanent Vacation Rocks Harder, and Steven Tyler more macho.. that was Pump that they went pop and started chasing Grammy's. check out Hearts Done Time,. The Movie, Hangman Jury, Simoriah, Title track, and Steven Tyler's last solo song writing credit of all time, St. John on PV. Those all Rock Hard, and 4 songs on it sound very BLACK SABBATH
The first 4 songs in that album are pure dynamite
Today 8/2/2024, is a Bitter-Sweet day, in Aerosmith History. If you know, you know. So, Let The Music, Do The Talkin' !!!!
Read that today 😢 saw this tour in Seattle 86 louder than rehab ❤
I saw the Joe Perry Project in February '83' Boston Ma Channel night club on Necco street. Fantastic show!
man.....i miss the channel....i remember seeing the fools and farenheit at chevys bel air cafe on rt 9 in Framingham....the rat....tt the bears... the ranch house in marshfield...i saw frehleys comet at celebration in kenmore sq.....good times
Anyone ever asks you what rock and roll is supposed to aound like, you play this song for em.
The single greatest band of all time.
I really don't understand why critics didn't like Done With Mirrors. It is definitely an album that Aerosmith put their raw energy and hunger into it
Critics did like it, it just fell flat with a new generation of music. It’s much less glossy and raw sounding then PV and Pump.
I love this song so much. I remember the first time I saw this video, not yesterday. lol! Still awesome.
...and this boys and girls is when rock-n-roll ruled and rock gods roamed the earth...
+Richard Bartholomew and the grunge shit hadn't ruined it yet
+decimated550 Well how else are you supposed to text with your 'friends'???
Newsensation1978 you are from 1978 so what would you do? Call them up with the number stored in your memory (isntead of in a phoen ) and voice to voice, or face to face, tell them all about it. But kids today are autistic created by living in phones.
decimated550 i couldn't agree more. I'm from 1979 and the kids now compared to then are just plain retarded.
what a shit stance when you're reply in an argument only reinforces your opponents inital comment..
This whole online Social network/ political commentary movement
Song fucking ROCKS! One of my favorites from them. The whole album is great too.
One of the most underrated 80's rock albums.
What makes you believe it's underrated? Did you travel the globe taking a survey from every citizen of the world? Please explain.
@@gogoyubari366 this album totally sucked except for let the music do the talking. But that one song was so amazing it made it worth buying
@@shanglang133 That’s because they didn’t finish it enough to be successful because they were still doing drugs
@@INDLIS The Melodies all sucked but that one song it's not a matter of putting finish on the album
@@shanglang133 They were all out of sync because they failed to make any corrections prior to releasing it. Those who gave it a bad review asked if Done With Mirrors was really an Aerosmith album or a bad Motley Crue.
Them as a HARD ROCK BAND is far better than their Hollywood produced Entertainment from Sony Music.
Chick rock.
@@mrHoppedupford yes, chick rock from 1989 forward, before that, it was the blue army. I remember it was mostly guys who liked Aerosmith until 1989's Pump came out. then it was ballad after ballad after ballad after ballad (on the radio). That's when the bad boys became good guys
This album (Done with Mirrors 1985)
Put them back on top
of the Rock n Roll world.
Probably one of their
best albums ever.
0:59 two awesome moments so the shot of a 80s era crowd absolutely rockin, and immediately after, Brad Whitford's headbang !!!
3:30 yes every Aerosmith fan has had the daydream of Steven, Joe, Tom, Brad, and Joey hanging out at their place!
I saw Joe Perry @ 1st Avenue in Mpls from the tiny balcony over the stage, it's a great memory in my life.
I loved The Joe Perry Project, that dude has such a great Rock & Roll gift for lead guitar.
Such a great song!
I Love The Energy Of Aerosmith And Particularly Steven Tyler. Let The Music Rock On Through The Decades. 👍 ❤
This was when you snuck a video camera into a concert. Today everything is off your phone and posted on the internet. An Aerosmith concert was always great.
1.8 million views? I guess I wasn't the only one with a hankering for this great old tune.never hear it on sirius
Whoever gave thumbs down to that song let the music do the talking with Steven singing it out of their minds it's the best Tony Romo from Portland Connecticut
Love every song on this album
Most underrated album ever
a classic to any true fan
A very underrated video for a very underrated song from a very, very VERY underrated album .
This album got bad reviews but this song kicks ass especially the lead in it
Because it was a Joe Perry Project tune first
Joe Perry's first Project album had the same title of this track, the riffs on that album could have made Aerosmith bounce back much sooner
Slammin song. Love the riffs
Done with Mirrors is such an underrated album
+Phoenix van der Weyden "Darkness" is only on the CD version
+INDLIS I have a later cassette release of Done With Mirrors. It is all in normal lettering(as opposed to the backwards lettering, hence the name, "Done With Mirrors). It features Darkness on it, which is great!
Jack Jack I have that one as well :) I have the vinyl with the backwards lettering ( i think it´s creative ) haha and Darkness is such a great under the radar song , it´s a hidden jam :)
It really wasn’t the best work by Aerosmith probably the worst album ever besides the Rock in a hard place album Joe Perry said that the album even sucked
M???????? A??????? Plus the album wasn’t even finished
The 80's was the greatest time
When it comes to old school areosmith, Rock/Blues at it's best, Controlled Chaos, Hard enough to let the boys to rock out to,Up enough to let the girls dance 2, awesome stuff
Such a kick ass song. With that slide guitar... man thats so bad ass
This music is so very cool👏👏👏!!
Listened to Done With Mirrors on repeat all the way from Missouri to San Diego in a 78 Trans Am back in the late 80s. It's forever printed in my mind. Thanks boys 🎉
"Done With Mirrors" was the last real Aerosmith record.
I was lucky to have been there that night for the video shoot. Very interesting night for sure
This inspires, helps and MOTIVATES my soul. Time to let music help save this world of ours. Lord knows it has always BLESSED this world. ✌️❤️
This is my go to song in the morning played as loud as equipment on hand will allow.
The single greatest band of all time.
I don't think so.
bearhouse34 of the 70s and today.
i fully agree.
bearhouse34 if you seriously believe this is the greatest band of all time then you used or you don't get out much you have to look past the radio this is packaged product presented to you from posers it's lame and weak right come from this isn't even near Rock
Close, I love Aerosmith. However, Led Zeppelin is the greatest of all-time!
Aerosmith is the best all songs are great
I like how in the guitar solo, you can kind of hear the riff of "Draw the Line".
+RBK2 Kinda? Its exactly the Draw the Line riff....I always wondered why they did that...I've never heard a band rip themselves off.
+Troy Owens That's because its really Perry's song (from his group, Joe Perry Project 79-82). He ripped off Aerosmith's song (which is really his too, so no law suits), and he brought it back to Aerosmith when he returned.
So Joe, during his solo days ripped himself off from his prior Aerosmith days and then ripped himself off again....with the same riff...when he went back to Aerosmith!! That has got to be a first (and only) in the history of rock!! Thanks for the info!!
AC/DC have ripped themselves off and Iron Maiden too but that's all I can think of at this moment.
I think that's intentional. Aerosmith often have done this with lyrics. Joe's throwing that riff in from Draw the Line on purpose. It's a kind of tongue and cheek thing.
The Orpheum Theater in Boston is a great venue to see a show, which is why A-Smith used it for this video. It is at the end of it's own little alley, so it is separated from the neighborhood, and it ROCKS. Just like Aerosmith.
Awesome song Awesome Band Love Aerosmith Aerosmith FOR LIFE
the best Aerosmith song and video
gotta love 80's
We used to cover" my fist ,your face" from this album. A Come back for Aerosmith. Perry and whitford we're back and great things were on the way for this legendary rock n roll band! 🥁🥁🥁
I ❤️ this music!!!
simply amazing song!
THE ORPHEUM BABY!! Greatest place in Boston to see a concert. Not a bad seat in the house!!
I remember when they shot this at the Orpheum in Boston. I was to drunk and throwing up outside lol. I was 16. You live and learn.
I was there bro Boston!!!!
MuckoMan ya baby 👍
was lucky enough to be there for BOTH nights...they hadn't finished filming on the first, took all of our names, told us to wear the same clothes, and return the next night...first two rows reserved just for the extras!
Old School Blues Based Hard Rock 👍👍🤘🤘
After all Joe and Steven had been through, it is cool, even if it's staged, to see the banter between them at the end. Thanks for sharing this.
Yeah reading the book walk this way tells us all the mayhem and acronym behind the scenes. But from that came some honest , firey rock m roll.
Let the music.. classic.shes on fire another underated gem
Aerosmith thee greatest American band. Joe Perry is a genius player
+Oppie Oppenheimer ...look...at...that...glass guitar he has. i've never seen one like that. awesome!
I just love his playing. Amazing talent
+decimated550 it's a Dan Armstrong. Joe also plays it on Draw The Line. It's made of plexiglass
Don't forget Brad, he's a fantastic guitarist.
Oppie Oppenheimer just don't call yourself rock this is not rock where I come from this is Lullaby Baby shit done by these posers either you don't get out much or you're just easily amused
great album and the start of the biggest comeback in American rock history
Joe Perry is underrated as a guitar player- so distinctive
Tell Rolling Stone who always put him at some #60 on their Greatest Guitarists list. What a joke. Somehow Kurt Cobain is better- lmfao
Totally disagree with the original post...
No, it's the other guitarist that never gets the credit. He's actually better than Joe Perry where Perry is very sloppy
For me he is more skilled than Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones
This was a great remake of a Joe Perry project original. Love the band from my hometown.
❤HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOEY KRAMER ❤MUSIC FOREVER❤
Great opening live song !

Nuff said! Straight up
And you pull out your hip flask and give em a sip
Can't do a party mix without this song and Back in the Saddle !
They opened their Victoria show with this song in July of 2015, they can still fucking rock the house ..
Where they still coked out of their minds at this point?
Depends on which book you read or interview you believe. At the time, they were saying in interviews that they were straight. And it generally seems as such except for Tyler who has said that he still hadn't totally kicked his heroin habit yet, much less his coke problem. Like I said... all depends on what you read and when its from.
joe and steven were the toxic twins Heroin all the way!
No they just got sober
@@craigwood4342 They weren't totally clean, I was at the video taping, and it was pretty obvious. Even in '86 when they recorded with Run DMC they kept disappearing into the bathroom. They intervened on Steven in the fall of '86.
semi simmering ~
My fave Areosmith song. Love the lyrics
This is my personal favorite Aerosmith CD.
The rawness of the material and the fact that they were still using drugs....makes it all the better. This music was involved in some of the best times of my life . "Reason a Dog" from this CD. is my go to Aerosmith song 100% just a incredible and melodic .
This CD is good from the first song.. to the last.. A TRUE JEM OF A CD.
guys, just let the music do the talking, forget all the last things and please, rock on!
Old school rock!!!
Joe Perry gives a great guitar solo with a bit of Draw the Line thrown in.🤘🏼
