Not really. It wasn't like rap was even a real genre yet. Meaning it hadn't really escaped NY. You had LL Cool J radio that had charted as an album and Beastie Boys and RUN DMC were starting to chart, and maybe some Kool Moe Dee. This was more a validation of rap. Or a mix of songs to try and bring in some of the hard rock listeners to give rap a try sort of thing. In doing that it definitely worked as that summer of '86 a lot of my hard rock friends at least gave rap a listen....none of them liked it though...other than me.
It’s late summer of 2022, and still, THIS amazing merger of rap & rock has my old body bobbing along, and I still know it word for word! Bless these gentlemen for this beautiful moment in music…walk this way😉

Everyone’s saying this blew everyone’s mind back in the day....
It’s still blowing my mind now so...
Fuck yeah we loved it....still do...classic!
I remember the first time it played on MTV. It was amazing! I was 14 years old.
I was six years old when it came out I didn't even know what hip hop was yet but I knew I liked it!
It‘s still one of my favorite songs, even today
It got swept under the rug pretty quickly. Check out lil Wayne [shooter] it's a cover of this or a nod to it. Song is different video same Luik fables
This song is such a classic!! I love the originality of it as a rock and rap crossover! The guitar melody in the beginning gives me goosebumps. I'll never get tired listening to this!!
The best collab of all time rip jam master
Hit me right in the childhood... merged the best of the times and elevated both groups to new audiences.
FACTS!!!!!!!
One of the greatest collaborations of all time. Each side repping their own, but coming together to make something epic. I love how they don’t try to flex or outdo one another, but celebrate and encourage each other to go even harder. Back when music was actually good and meant something and not all these fake falsettos and mumbling.
yes :) lets talk i from Poland and ,,, and you know - do wana some info aboud polish fans this bands ? :)
Legendary!!!
@@muhammadsyafiq1004 yes but this is money and show in tv
THE. BEST.
listen to hip hop by static-x and dead prez
All these years later, it is still amazing that this not only launched Run DMC, but resurrected Aerosmith. Truly remarkable.
This didn't launch Run DMC. They had already released two successful albums.
This did not launch Absolutely Run Dmc was already on top! What it did for them was expose them to more fans. It ressureccted Aerosmith's career because now they're doing a song with the top people.
@@moniquenewman4889 For Mainstream white kids and such it did. Hip Hop was still fringe back then. Like Punk was in the 70's.
@@teleguy5699 Yes, it was that white kids were were being introduced to something that already existed and good for them.Good for RunDmc too. It's a win-win for everybody.
@@moniquenewman4889 it was!
Nearly 40 years old and still as fresh as ever..
Marvel: Avengers Infinity War and Endgame are the 2 most ambitious crossovers of all time.
Run DMC and Aerosmith: Hold our Adidas and electric guitars
* Hold our Adidas and microphone stand with Explorer
Hahaha... mint!
So if this video was made many years before the movies the music is making crossovers better?
Real shit this generation will never understand talent like NBA trash he can learn from the pioneers
Avengers infinity war and endgame aren’t crossovers, if it was a crossover it would be marvel meets DC, Jason and Freddy is a crossover
two of the best music worlds in one. why cant America be like this.
impossibru
+Matias Manni tru
+Daniels Random Ass Channel AMEN!!!
Because of idiot, disgrace to this generation crap that teenagers and kids call music
Both got quite serious threats from very umm... devoted hiphop and rock fans.
Probably not one of the best collaborations of all time. Probably the best collaboration of all time.
❤😂❤
Run DMC and Aerosmith Ran So that little Nas X could fly
This is so great
You got me in the first half not gonna lie
Exactly, THE BEST.
The first true cross over between Rock and Rap!! Music is universal!!! This is what we should send into space on a probe....
I’m an 80s kid and this was groundbreaking when it came out, creating a massive crossover of two very different genres - Still 🔥 today!!
Faith no more was the leaders to rap and rock together
Eat this waay fart this waaay
In doing that it definitely worked as that summer of '86 a lot of my hard rock friends at least gave rap a listen....none of them liked it though...other than me.
good combination of 2 masters
The best combination of hip hop and rock
Couldn't agree more.
Why is "couldn't" such a complicated word in english lmao.
You mean metal
Frank White Aerosmith is most definitely not metal. Smh
Jay z and Linkin park were pretty awesome
🤘
No dissing but professionalism at its best just marvelous 89's
It’s late summer of 2022, and still, THIS amazing merger of rap & rock has my old body bobbing along, and I still know it word for word! Bless these gentlemen for this beautiful moment in music…walk this way😉
A truly timeless video.
I think the rapping sucks and the signing is awful. The riff and drum machine carry this whole song. The characters in the video do their part too.
Genuine God fathers of the Rap and Rock ! REST IN PEACE JAM MASTER JAY. ARROWSMITH JUST SO COOL 😎.
Hello super fan !! Thanks for the love and support, Where are you watching from ?
@@steventyler7293 Watching and still enjoying, from Ontario Canada! Born Jamaican, who loves everyone and different genres of music!..💜💚💞💕😇🕊
Aerosmith and Run DMC collaboration was a brilliant idea to recreate this classic Aerosmith song. When this happened I knew that Rap Music had arrived in the mainstream.
StevenC32 But then it went down again
StevenC32 Really ?! for me it was seeing Fred Flintstone rapping in a cereal commercial... i knew then.
Real rap. Not this jargon nowadays.
theDracoIX The first half of your argument has some validity. The second half, not so. They took fashion, and added flair to it... hats, leather jackets,etc... More so, it could be argued Rock was the product of "cultural theft". What goes around, comes around??
theDracoIX Oookay... the fact that you say Whites created Blues and Jazz, bringing up sagging jeans (the most ignorant fashion statement ever) shows where your head is at. Delusional
The MOST influential collaboration in the 80's.
Anthrax and Public Enemy did an encore in the 90's.
@@21inchwide that would have been cool to see
BEAT IT?
@@ashishmeshram5057 Beat It isn't a collaboration. That's just Jackson.
@@gganimations2546 eddie van halen did the guitar solo in it
Important classic.
In those times you waited for this video.
Holy mtv.
I was born in 2001 and my parents loved classic rock (especially Aerosmith), so I grew up with this. When I heard this version of Walk This Way, I was a little confused, but I knew I liked it. Now I’m 20 years old and realize that this song was actually a big deal when it was first released. I can see why, and I wish there were more songs like this.
And to be completely honest with y’all, both versions are awesome!
You are lucky for have parents like yours
@@giannis5096 yeah ig I am haha
This song was absolutely mind blowing at the time.
Aerosmith did NOT qualify as "classic" until this!
I may have heard this 10,000 times in my life, but some how seeing Run DMC and Aerosmith together still gave me chills
The rare moments in history when rap and rock have come together are absolute magic
one of the best songs ever made
as a 12 yr old i remember watching this in 86. had no idea who aerosmith or run dmc was....but the video, the rap and that guitar riff totally got me!
I was the same age as you & this song was & still is the greatest rap/rock song ever
I actually wish we had more rock/rap collaborations. They always go well. PE and Anthrax, Jay-Z and Linkin Park...but this is the original. Legitimately one of the most important tracks in the history of hip hop because it gave it crossover legitimacy.
No good bastard by tom macdonald is a good rock rap song, he has a few good rock raps.
Both of those PE/Anthrax, JZ/Linkin were amazing collaborations. I think two of my three personal best, along with this jam......
Listen to my exs best friend by Machine Gun Kelly

Within Temptation X Xzibit - And We Run 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I was lucky enough to remember when this was released, true genius, pure talent.
Run DMC number one hit song & Aerosmith shot to top again revitalizing their band. Great collaboration, hip hop & rock n roll jammed together! They both benefitted. ❤
The best collaboration of rock and hip-hop music
When the irresistible force that is Rock, met the unstoppable force that is Rap :)

Old school Rap and Rock the chocolate and peanut butter of music at the time
CaptainTalon448 modern rap doesn't go with rock as well as the classic stuff did
