Eat the rich is an abbreviation of a saying attributed to Jean-Jacques Rousseau *(1712-1778)* . It is used in radical and anti-capitalist circles, gaining wider traction at the beginning of the 21st century in response to increasing income inequality.. "When the people shall have no more to eat, they will eat the rich!"

This song takes a shot at rich people who believe their wealth entitles them to look down on others. Aerosmith were indeed rich when they released this song, but they come from humble beginnings and can't stand the condescending attitude of some rich people. >>
Joe Perry and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith wrote this song with Jim Vallance, a Canadian songwriter who also co-wrote "Rag Doll" and "Young Lust." They put the song together in Vallance's basement studio. The jungle rhythm came about after Tyler started banging away on a keyboard. Perry came up with a guitar riff, and Valance added a guitar phrase.
The song's rhythms were played on Polynesian log drums. Six musicians were brought in to play them.
An aggressive rocker, this song was released as the second single from Get A Grip, following another uptempo number, "Livin' On The Edge," which made #18 in the US. "Eat The Rich" didn't chart, but when the record company tried a different tack, releasing the ballads "Cryin'," "Amazing" and "Crazy," the album rose to #1 and got Aerosmith back on MTV and Top 40 radio.

Being rich is not wrong, as long as it was earned honestly and not on the backs of poor people. There are rich people who are kind and generous. It's the entitled bunch who think being rich, with money earned through tax dodges and bending the rules in their favour, who deserve to be eaten. At one time, many millionaires (not all) from "old money" believed in philanthropy as a requirement of their wealth, they had dignity and respect and treated everyone else that way too.

Lesson learned: Never underestimate the unpredictability of man and his yearning spirit for freedom. No amount of control or globe spanning economic and industrial power will ever wield complete control over men, even if it means pitting them to the death for fun. That always works against them in the end.

They could completely rework the lyrics into whatever else they wanted, this song would still go hard as hell.
The riff is outstanding, the drumming is rock solid, the bass even gets limelight throughout the song.
This whole album was great, the composition was insane, it was one of the few albums that I would give a 10/10. I don’t think there was but one song (Line Up) on the whole album that may have been out of place, but I believe that was even reaching cause it was still a damn near perfect album.
