How to get stuff working fully in Hammer of Thyrion! Music: 1) In your Hammer of Thyrion sourceport's data1 folder, create a subfolder called music and open the new subfolder if that subfolder does not already exist. 2) Open your Hexen II GOG / Steam installation's music folder and copy the audio files track02.ogg through track17.ogg into the new subfolder listed in step 1. Be aware that that there is no track01.ogg file and the game's music starts with track02.ogg. Lava looking weird: Open the config.cfg file and change the value of gl_ztrick from "1" to "0". Just do a CTRL + F (find) search and type “gl_ztrick” to find it. 😊 Hope this helps! Let me know if it doesn’t. Cheats I used to make this video in case you want to make your own: Press ~ to open console then type the code. GOD = God mode IMPULSE 36 = freeze monsters / IMPULSE 37 = Unfreeze IMPULSE 9 = all weapons IMPULSE 299 = all artefacts NOCLIP = No clipping Changelevel + level name = self explanatory. Just Google the map names. Fly = flying
This is a terrific video series/topic and I love seeing a new vid pop up. Especially when you're covering a game I have personally played, although I've watched videos where I haven't played the game but still liked them
Just finished watching and man, it was glorious! Hexen II is one of my favourite games of all time. Such a gem. Also, I completely forgot if you mentioned it, but if you get killed by the golem and you're standing right next to the wall, you can see a texture of your crushed head. There's flattened face! Love the details
being a big boomer shooter fan, there is a "Swim Up" button that lets you get out of water....who woulda thunk? Civvie11 has the exact same problems and no one thinks theres a button for swimming up
And I get pinged for this video as I need to head to bed. :( Ah well, now I got something to watch over morning coffee. Yay! :) Looking forward to seeing this one mate. Thank you, and commenting again in around 9 hours. After sleep and making breakfast. :)
Hexen 2 is such a good game (Apart from the last Egypt Puzzle). Paladin has always been my go-to choice - even if he has the worst abilities of the classes. (Level 3: Faster swimming with water breathing which is really situational and probably after you did the swimming in the first level anyway.) But the ability to use the Vorpal Sword even when the mana is gone is a nice tool to make up for it!
Very wild coincidence! I just started another playthrough, after struggling through a few different source ports. Such an incredible game! Unfortunate that Portal of Praevus is such a pain to get working. I hope Nightdive gives it the remaster treatment, cuz it's possibly my favorite game of the era. So many combat options, interesting puzzles, and enthralling exploration! Plus, I'm a sucker for medieval fantasy. 😁
Ahh that would have been wicked! Like, if he could randomly resurrect a dead monster to support you. Probably would have been better than Vampiric Drain :) thanks!
I literally just finished the game for the first time legit yesterday as the assassin. I bought the game when it first came out in 1997 but I was 14 and couldn't figure out the puzzles/backtracking so I just noclipped every time I got stuck. So many of the enemies are designed to be deliberately annoying. The skull wizards that teleport away the second you get a bead on them, the were-jaguars with their invincible roars, the fallen angels that cover themselves up until you stop aiming at them... Ugh. Absolutely loved the game but if there was a mod to make these enemies less annoying, I would use it every time.
I know. There’s no Stone Cobra, what the hell? (Or whatever that big snek in Thysis is called) I couldn’t find any info for it and it’s more like evil architecture than anything. It’s a big ol’ stone snake. So: when you slap down that cut gem, shoot at it til it explodes. Nuff said. 🐍 sorry bout that
I used to preserve my artifacts on my first ever playthrough and after that I realized, - why the hell did I not use them? :D I mean I played on easier difficulty so it wasn't too hard, but yeah, stupid idea. Necromancer is your favorite character? Idk, the cons of weakest 1st weapon, underwhelming Glyph of the Ancients ability and probably weakest 4th weapon's basic usage, though at the same time he has probably the best 2nd and 3rd weapon and i like the animation of ravens emerging with his 4th weapon during tome usage, it still puts him on 3rd place for me. My favorite classes would be Crusader and Assassin with Crusader a bit more up than Assassin for me. Paladin is not bad either even though on last place. All classes, even though I have my own ranking, are decent enough, there is no underperforming class. Also how did I never thought about using discs of repulsion to push enemies into water or lava? I've beaten the game fully at least twice and made it at least into Pharaoh episode with every class. I don't feel smart anymore.
I learned that from Civvie's video on Hexen 2, before that I did what everybody else did - used the teleport. I mean really, who even tried to use swim up/down keys, all other games worked fine with jump/crouch for swimming! Oh well, maybe it's, like, a swimming puzzle.
Have you tried having a co-op party? I did once... and the guy playing as the necromancer was constantly starved of mana. Something went wrong there but this game's one of my faves.
I certainly tried to source the stats, no dice as far as I could find. Edit: haha! Oh my god, I was looking in the wrong folder on github the whole time. That’s hilarious and very me. 3000 health + 1000 x difficulty level for Eidolon HP, very interesting how he racks up like that. So 6000 on hard difficulty. Never mind, I was planning on adding an addendum onto an upcoming Portals of Praevus video in case I missed anything. Perfect opportunity
Yes! Should I do a pinned post in the comments about the music and other tricks? Meant to put them in the video actually and bloody forgot, of course. :s

I love this series. it's very intuitive and funny. Also, I can't help but love that shout out to Civvie 11
Im so glad i subbed to this channel.
Thanks! 😄
@@EduardoAndFriends You're welcome
Just a bit of curiosity, have you thought about doing the monsters for Heretic?
@@Aaron-oh3yj absolutely. It’s on my list :)
@EduardoAndFriends Awsome, I'm looking forward to it.
You have made a new fan of hexen 2 ❤
Yay!
Man you've gotten so good at this. I've never played Hexen 2 (maybe the demo like once) and I'm thoroughly entertained.
Thanks, bruv!

I didn't grow up with hexen but discovered it by accident, and it was a joy to play.

Yeah never really got much use outta his abilities: water breathing and coming back to life sometimes, which is useless if you save lots :D

Hexen 2 does look great on the Quake engine!
Oh yah, it’s a long game to watch. Pagby666 has a really good series!
It looks great but still prefer hexen 1 - gameplay is so much better combat have more meat and with gzdoom a lot of mods to mix staff...unlike this.

Totally get you, I first played it co-op with a friend in high school. He played crusader and I played as Necromancer. Great team combo!
Actually, AFAIR you're supposed to use "swim up" key to exit the pools.
Haha, I tried everything. :p
Swimming down and then back up can help get some extra momentum to get out of this pool.

You left out all the Portal of Praevus stuff. :|
Imma do it separately 👍 might break down the puzzles too
Do it, please @@EduardoAndFriends
Still remeber being amazed by number of things You could destroy in this game. Before H2 I thought only build engine games could do that

Pretty cool

I heard that Australians are immune to the spiders attack? Can you confirm?
Alas, no. :’( wish there was like a giant weta which would jump on the player’s chest and start biting!
Also - does pushing monsters into lava/water grant experience to player? I don't think so.
Hmmmm, probably not.
Btw anyone know how to get music working on the sourceports

Heh dunno, never really got into Hexen 2, it's that uncanny valley where it's 3d but not as good as 2d 😂 cool analysis tho .

This is the stupidest shit ever, but theres a keybind for "swimming up", which you need to get out of a lot of water in the game
you forgot the yakman and pentacles
