This was a game made by a fan of games. Sonny and Sonny 2 were masterpieces of the Newgrounds era. Happy to see you've got a video on The Last Stand as well!
Yes sir! I havent played Sonny 2 yet, but I will, and then I will do a video on that as well. And yupp, my video on the Last Stand essentially "made" this channel lol
Wait till you try to mods made for Sonny. Some, like Daniela Will, even give different ability trees to each class. Though, it makes the classes a bit unbalanced (only Assasin can still finish the game without training battles or crazy RNG).
I've been playing this game every few years since I got my first computer in 2008 and only NOW I found out that you can put the same ability multiple times in the action bar!
Soon as I saw the title, i KNEW we were talking about Sonny and i was instnatly filled with joy. Sonny was one of my all time faovirte flash games, Sonny 2 being pretty damn great too. Never would have expected seeing a video on it this year but i'm pleased all the same.
I played this game because I had watched I, Robot and was looking for a game based on the movie with the robot's name. This was fun but confusing for an 8 year old that refused to read any context or tutorials.
Holy moly bro… You just made me unlock a suuuuper old memory, I barely remember anything about this game but the art style has stuck with me for like maybe 10 PLUS years 😳😳
The boss music in this game is consistently one of my favorites, I love to use it in my DnD games. Cant wait to see ya go over more flash games, along with a bit on their soundtracks, especailly Raze, specifically the greatness of Raze 2's soundtrack (Rose at Nightfall my beloved)
I didn't remember it until I saw the gameplay screen, then it all came flooding back. Man, what I wouldn't give for an AA followup to this... some mid-range developer looking to spread their wings takes this concept and runs with it.
Yeah that would be sick. At least we're getting a legacy collection on steam. Should come with some increased resolution textures, maybe some other upgrades as well
Honestly, I've wanted to have a go at recreating armour, weapons and maybe some environments in 3D. Not the characters though or the game itself though, Sonny is Krinn's baby and I think that might be going a bit far. Besides I have my own ideas for what I want to do and I think ultimately only Krinn can really get it right or knows where the plot was heading.
Man. I remember being the nerdy kid in grade school, one of the only ones that played video games avidly. and for one glorious day, when the teacher said "okay, free day. Go nuts." I was the most popular kid in class as I introduced everyone to Sonny, gave tips, explained stats, and the concept of synergizing. This was around, 2007 I think? Give or take a few years, so that would mean I was 13 or so. For one hour and a half, I learned what it was like being the cool kid. Never experienced that again.
Aw man don’t keep us hanging. I remember playing a bunch of these flash games as a kid and I barely remember them properly or their stories. I definitely love hearing the plots most of all.
The legendary game :’) I remember playing it as a kid for the first time, was stuck on a Rockstar for so long, because I was running the exact same skill set as devs gave to the enemy, but with lower stats.
Man i still play this game series from time to time, i only wish it gets adopted into a major game in the future. Thank you for covering it. waiting for sonny 2 coverage as well!

Even to this day i still think and listen to raze. its one of my biggest inspirations however what got me into hacking flash games and seeing how they work was sonny and the series of it that fallowed. The characters story and world it inhabits screams care. I am glad someone is talking about it to this day.
This game made me such a sucker for percentage-based RPG skills and buffs; the developer felt the reliance on buffs/debuffs was a flaw but I felt it made the game special. I remember when I used to desperately search for some sort of game editor or sth, or even just like a skill/item editor because I was so enamoured by the whole concept.
It was planned, got scrapped, and the dev iirc gave in to making a really... Poorly made mobile remake. Poor enough that some of the bosses were nigh impossible.
Ah, Sonny. A gem of the flash era. Fun little fact! Back in the day the fandom created the challange run of "Legend mode" which meant only ever playing story mode stages and never once doing practice stages. That was then implemented by Krin in Sonny 2 as an actual achivement and badge of honor (along side the fact that there was a competition where people could have a say in certain enemy designs.) Sonny reboot also added that, but overall reboot is.... A lacking game. From the complete reboot perspective, to the fact its missing so much in terms of animation for battles and even a lack of VA work! Sonny 1 and 2 both had a lot of voice acting, yet it's supremely rare in the reboot. It's a shame a third game never came out, but hey, we got the collection at least right?
Good memories of playing this during computer lab. I remember getting through most of one of the games until i reached one fight that I couldn't figure out how to beat.
Thank you! I played Sonny 2 way back in my childhood and I've wanted to play it again, but I couldn't find it cause I forgot how it was called and always ended up stumbling into unrelated flash games with similar titles. Good video, dude. Now, I'm gonna play Sonny 2 finally!
Sonny series is still one of my favorite flash games. It's been years and I'm still hoping for the third game. (Not even including the reboot Sonny in the mobile app)
The height of the flash game era was such a great time. I can't even begin to imagine how many hours I spent on Armorgames playing the thousands of flash games they had on there, especially the Sonny games. I'm so grateful for the people who made these games available for free. I didn't have much money then and my PC was very old and slow so I couldn't have played the newer games even if I could have afforded them. So I'd play flash games and watch youtube videos of people playing all the cool-looking games. Thank you for these reviews of the iconic flash games!
i love that the algorithm is finally feeding me stuff like this. games i hadn't thought of for years but that brought immense joy in my childhood coming back to me.

I'm just so happy to see that those flash games are still being talked about today, especially since it basically built part of my childhood memories. Thinking about a personal favourite, do you know the Thing-Thing serie, along with it's spin-off Thing-Thing Arena ? If you do, do you plan on making a coverage of the serie one day ?
They're an absolute treat of the Flash era. I personally played 2 for alot of times in different classes, my personal favorite being Biological class running full Venom/Poison build on the harder difficulty.
Very nostalgic! I grew up playing flash games and I know a few games that you might want to check out: Strike Force Heroes 1, 2 and 3; Raze 1, 2 and 3; Knightthron; Zombotron 1, 2 and the steam version.
Came here after i started replaying this classic. Running assassin build cos i love burst dps. Definitely don't skip out on the training! Loot farming is a huge part of your build. And a lot of fun when you get all the pieces you want! Typically you can find complete sets in zones between the mobs and shop. You can also go back to a zone after completing it and do the "next fight" option again to fight the boss again, and loot farm the boss. They have multiple drops but takes a lot of attempts to get everything. Also I cant remember if this is just the second Sonny, but some zones have minibosses part way through. Once you beat them they get added to the pool of training encounters. More loot farming.
The second one was hard to unlock all the zones, but it was satisfying to unlock all that gear. At the same time also sad cause that means for sure I really finished the game
Man, Sony was so great it, i revisited it some years later too, and i had a blast, sad they never made the third game they promised, and made a reboot instead
@@TheLovelyScrub have been years since i played it, but i as far i remember, the game takes a completely different route to what people expected, the most noticeable being that is a reboot, not a sequel so most of the questions people had with the previous games story, lore and characters are completely not answered and the travel we did is lost. The next most noticeable thing is the artstyle, it departs from the flash looking manequins and has more detailed takes on characters, armors and abilities, wich is a plus, or would be, if they had animated the characters, wich are now PNGs who throw powers along the screen and smash each other time to time (altought i appreciate the effects and designs). The enemy pool is kinda disjointed, you kinda miss some of the bizarre ideas they had. And the final most noticeable thing is the gameplay, some things were brought back, others completely changed, one of them is the evolve mechanic wich basically works only in battle and doesnt stack along the story. If you ever want to try the game, its currently ported on Steam and mobile devices.
@@Fulcrox yeah I've seen it on Steam, I think I'll pass on the reboot and just play part 2 for now. That's very odd they did a reboot and didn't animate the characters lol

@@TheLovelyScrub did he say it correctly ? If you want more info "grâce" in coup de grâce means favour or mercy, it's a blow you do to put someone out of their misery.
Sonny was basically a full fledged game in your browser. Loved both 1 and 2. In fact, 2 is what every sequel should be. Don't know if it was ever finished though - dev ported it from flash to something else, published EA on steam and then couldn't work on it much and the version in steam was super raw and the balance was off from what i know
So in my experience: Destroyer: Useless Guardian: Gunslinger with more health and less damage Assasin: Highest damage by far but also the lowest health Gunslinger: Low health but decent damage and a decent amount of support abilities
If the sequel is half as good as the first, then the original dualogy is going to be high my list of favorite flash games, and from what I hear the 2nd is even better than the 1st
I've played and loved both the two flash games AND the Android version. The latter lost some of the magic touch the flash games have, but IMO it compensated with the OST
Sonny 1 and 2 - imo is the best ones out there, I'm sad Krin-labs didn't go into sonny 3 where things went off... as it would've been so much better in my eyes at least. The current variant on steam that was just named Sonny, didn't feel like it would carry on - and sadly it didn't. IF the team is still working on Sonny 3, then we just gotta wait and hope... and be informed on where it will be found.
Blast from the past! I remember a bug or maybe it was a hidden feature. You could stack stats from your gear without wearing it. Can't remember the specifics of it but when you sold a piece of gear you could keep the stat of it by doing something. Anyone remember how?
Yeah, you just have to grab a piece of equipment, click the options menu, then click around and then the equipment will dissappear but will still buff you as if it was equipped, it's a ridiculous exploit I did some times to see how broken I can get
@TheLovelyScrub Iirc you would click and drag a piece of gear from the inventory to your stats tab or the options/save game tab and drop it there. For some reason the game would "eat" the item but you would gain the stats for said piece of gear. So if you did it enough times you would have hundreds if not thousands of each stat with your elemental defense/elemental piercing bar actually go past the visual cap. Essentially it's as if you were equipping pieces of gear on top of eachother with no limit.
I never expected to see a video about Sonny in 2024, this takes me way back. These games are inspirational.

So in my experience:
Destroyer: Useless
Guardian: Gunslinger with more health and less damage
Assasin: Highest damage by far but also the lowest health
Gunslinger: Low health but decent damage and a decent amount of support abilities
Daaamn, Sonny and Sonny 2 were my fav games when i was a kid, and even now, they hold!
If the sequel is half as good as the first, then the original dualogy is going to be high my list of favorite flash games, and from what I hear the 2nd is even better than the 1st
@@TheLovelyScrub sequel is plainly better in every way, you will love it
@@TheBaronEssen sick, I'm glad to hear that!
I've played and loved both the two flash games AND the Android version. The latter lost some of the magic touch the flash games have, but IMO it compensated with the OST
Shit, I've been trying to recall the name of this game for years. Thank you 🙏
Sonny 1 and 2 - imo is the best ones out there, I'm sad Krin-labs didn't go into sonny 3 where things went off... as it would've been so much better in my eyes at least.
Anyone remember how?
that sounds pretty wild tbh lol
Yeah, you just have to grab a piece of equipment, click the options menu, then click around and then the equipment will dissappear but will still buff you as if it was equipped, it's a ridiculous exploit I did some times to see how broken I can get
I'm a bit sad that nobody mentioned the infamous "eating equipment" glitch.
Im actually unfamiliar with that, what is it exactly?
@TheLovelyScrub Iirc you would click and drag a piece of gear from the inventory to your stats tab or the options/save game tab and drop it there. For some reason the game would "eat" the item but you would gain the stats for said piece of gear. So if you did it enough times you would have hundreds if not thousands of each stat with your elemental defense/elemental piercing bar actually go past the visual cap. Essentially it's as if you were equipping pieces of gear on top of eachother with no limit.
Hold on 1 second what happened with my reply? I even put the wiki link in what is explaining the glitch in full detail.
@@angyalalex maybe the link is why it self-deleted? I know I didn't delete anything
@@shawning13 this sounds wild lol
Man Sonny was a fun little RPG.
