Darkrai deserves justice. Smeargle stole its signature move, got it nerfed into the ground, and then lost the ability to learn it. If the root of the issue can no longer use dark void, then why keep it in such a nerfed state? It's not like Darkrai's gonna be allowed into competitive any time soon.
I hope they fix this considering how many people think this nerf is rightfully stupid. Why nerf the accuracy if making smeargle not able to use the move was all they had to do and nothing extra?
I think what they should’ve done to nerf Dark Void would’ve been that it keeps the 80% Accuracy, it just has its Accuracy halved if used by any Pokemon that isn’t Darkrai like Smeargle. That would’ve made Smeargle less of a problem while not screwing over Darkrai
Or just.....make it so Smeargle can't sketch it like they already did anyways and then just leave it at that lol. Darkrai isn't even legal and never has been in vgc so it was meaningless to lower the accuracy that much, or at all, after removing sketch allowing to sketch it.
@@misterzygarde6431 Doubles - 40% Accuracy Dark Void 20% chance to sleep both 22% chance to hit 1 but miss the 2nd 22% chance to miss 1 but hit the 2nd 36% chance to do nothing 50% Accuracy Dark Void 25% chance to sleep both 25% chance to hit 1 but miss the 2nd 25% chance to miss 1 but hit the 2nd 25% chance to do nothing 80% Accuracy Dark Void 64% chance to sleep both 16% chance to hit 1 but miss the 2nd 16% chance to miss 1 but hit the 2nd 4% chance to do nothing
Darkrai is still paying for smeargle’s sins, but the good news is Legends Arceus changed it to 90% and made it lower defenses. So they haven’t forgotten about poor darkrai
I never had strong feelings towards Smeargle Until it got Dark void, the signature move of my favourite mythical, nerfed into the ground NOW I DESPISE IT
Dark Void definitely got unfairly nerfed, Darkrai's whole gimmick is giving opponents bad dreams so it needs a decently reliable way to put opponents to sleep, at least give it a Ability which increases the accurary to 75%.
I'm honestly fine with Scald distribution being nerfed, it was really dumb how almost every water type could learn this move (aside from pyukumuku who's a gimmick and water/ice types cause of their ice typing), and frankly i just avoided using the move as i found it was just too good. Another move disruption nerf im fine with was Toxic's, it just never made sense to me why this was ever a universal TM, but now starting in BDSP where it's almost exclusively learned by poison types, it makes far more sense since it's just them using some kind of venom...plus the non-poisons who still get it at least make some logical sense like with vespiquen (bee stings), quagsire (some kind of poisonous slime) and mandibuzz (noxious bile)
Likewise, Scald was one of if not the best spammable move around because of the massive burn chance it has. It’s a part of why Water types were such a strong type, being able to cripple Mons while dealing alot of damage all at once is huge. Toxic has always been a weird one, because it always came off like every Pokémon available was poisonous in some way. While it does suck that alot of walls lost something to help force an opponent out, the addition of Body press made up for it in spades
Say it with me now. Dark void not only did it hurt to have it solely but surely turn into one of the worst signature moves for an event Pokémon. But considering it was my favorite Pokémon of all time and the one I had for the longest time was given to me as a Christmas present by one of my closest Pokémon friends and someone who really helped me appreciate the series. TLDR it's Dark void because personal and sentimental reasons ruined my favorite Pokémon who is the holder of set move
Gen 1 trapping moves and Dark Void were bigger nerfs than Hyper Beam imo. Hyper Beam will requires you to have reliable attacks like Body Slam. Plus objectively speaking, the most nerfed move is Explosion and Self-Destruct. They literally lost effective 250/200 base power respectfully.
I remember playing Yellow on the VC as an adult and being shocked that my Charizard took super effective damage from an Ice Beam, I was like wait what I hate how they changed Surf to hit everyone, yet Muddy Water still only hits the opponents,
I wish they’d change Bad Dreams to have another effect being that it increases the accuracy of sleep inducing moves by 50%. Dark Void goes up to 75%, Hypnosis goes up to 90%, etc. And yes, I know that those accuracies are insane for sleep moves and maybe the percent increase should be lower. But I feel like Darkrai’s been power crept enough that it’s okay. 125 is not the speed it once was in Gen 4. And Darkrai’s attacking options aren’t that strong. Dark Pulse only has a base power of 80. As does most of its other coverage moves (Psyshock, Shadow Ball, Tera Blast, etc) with some non-STAB options reaching 90 (Psychic, Ice Beam), and then 110 for Thunder and Blizzard if you’re crazy enough. Compared to other ubers threats and their base 100+ signature moves, it’s barely making a dent. So yeah, I think a higher accuracy on sleep inducing moves is okay for it.
I'm honestly surprised that hidden power wasn't brought up anywhere in this video. It went from being a move that could be taught to any Pokémon that could use a TM to becoming exclusive to Unown starting in bdsp, to then having said exclusive move in Legends: Arceus essentially be treated mechanically like a diet version of the move judgment.
Probably not worthy of the list but Hydro Pump's nerf is the one that always affects me the most. I do mono-water type runs almost exclusively and you really feel how bad it was nerfed some times, making Surf or Scald vastly superior options most of the time.
What's funny about Dark Void is that its nerf indirectly led to the ban of sleep moves in Gen 9. Darkrai finally fell to OU this gen partially due to how bad Dark Void is nowadays (and Gen 9 powercreep, what else is new?), and it's been terrorizing the tier with Hypnosis.
I think signature moves or sparsely distributed moves should never be nerfed. I mean, Dark Void is one of THE reasons why Darkrai was so great. And to think mons like Zacian existed after they nerfed him.
You see a beagle summoning two black holes at a time in the street (I'm talking real life). Do you get mad at the dog... Or do you cry out for the twisted creator that made him this way?
Ah, Hyper Beam. One of the most awesome looking moves of all time, and totally worthless. At least outside romhacks that have abilities like Rampage, which functionally bring back gen 1 Hyper Beam and apply it to all recharge moves.
Fun fact if metronome selects Dark Void the move will fail It happen in gen 7 when battling lusamine her clefable copied it with metronome its said the pokemon could not use the move
King's shield and Wicked blow also got a nerf but not very much I guess King's shield got nerf in gen 8 so it's lower those who hit this move on contact attack 1 stage instead of 2 Wicked blow got a base power nerf in gen 9 from 80 to 75
9:11 hey JPR! just wanted to let you know, its probably pronounced 'Sinistea' (SIH-nis-tee) like tea ya know? ☕️ also amazing video once again! keep going 😊
In light of all those, what if the chance to Frostbite from moves like Ice Beam & Blizzard was to be 30% in Snow or Hail while keeping 10% to Freeze, or if Chilling Water kept its Attack drop aftermath with a 30% chance to Frostbite added like a counterpart to Scald?
@YourLocalZoroark for now, but maybe not for much longer. If only the PLA statuses could cobestand/coexist with the Freeze & Sleep ones in ways like how Poisoned & Badly Poisoned do in coming games, but who knows if that ever would come to pass?
At least they should make the Hyper Beam, Giga Impact and their variants be like Gigaton Hammer and Blood Moon, moves that are powerful but you can't use the same move 2 times in a row instead of the user needing to recharge next turn. And nerfing Dark Void's accuracy was unnecessary, only nerfing to make only Darkrai can use the move it's more than enough.
i agree with the Dark Void opinion massively, that accuracy nerf was unnecessary, just making it only useable by Darkrai was all they had to do, I do hope one day they will revert the accuracy back to 80% but keep the ability where it can only be used by the nightmare himself
It would be nice if we could some of these moves back in a slightly adjusted way Like for example a 120 or 130 move which needs recharging uless it knocked something out, a ice move which can break through protect, or a explosive move with only like 130 or so power which halves defenses (or reduces defense by 2 stages) before doing damage
Happy Holidays!! Today marks 14 years since this channel was created! Thank you all for another successful year!! ❤
Your videos are amazing, JPR! Cheers to another year
You make this on the 27th of December.
Congrats bro, today was my first video. Of course I subbed
I will never forgive Smeargle for what it did to Darkrai
seriously, just making the move ONLY useable by Darkrai was enough of a nerf to the move, gutting it's accuracy down to 50% was just overkill
@bulborb8756 it's not like they didn't do that for other moves in the future.
Same, I hate that thing.
I blame the devs for choosing to nerf Dark Void so much instead of just blocking Smeargle from Sketching it.
Smeargle 1v1d darkrai and solo’d him, put respect on his name
Darkrai deserves justice. Smeargle stole its signature move, got it nerfed into the ground, and then lost the ability to learn it. If the root of the issue can no longer use dark void, then why keep it in such a nerfed state? It's not like Darkrai's gonna be allowed into competitive any time soon.

Smeargle to Darkrai

i dunno, i think making the move only useable by Darkrai is the best change to the move so that Smeargle can't abuse it
@ I mean halving the accuracy when used by Smeargle means its 40% Accurate meaning it might as well be unusable
Smeargle shouldn't be able to use signature moves.
Or just.....make it so Smeargle can't sketch it like they already did anyways and then just leave it at that lol. Darkrai isn't even legal and never has been in vgc so it was meaningless to lower the accuracy that much, or at all, after removing sketch allowing to sketch it.

Constrict had to be nerfed, too OP.
Surging Strikes though, is totally fair and balanced /s
Crazy how broken Wrap was but how terrible Constrict has always been 😂
Darkrai is still paying for smeargle’s sins, but the good news is Legends Arceus changed it to 90% and made it lower defenses. So they haven’t forgotten about poor darkrai

Just about to comment this lol

4:58 Just a slight correction, while Hail was introduced in generation 3 it wouldn’t be until Gen 4 that blizzard was a guaranteed hit.
Im not epileptic but I thought the epilepsy bell was a really nice touch, kudos

What about thunder wave. It went from 100% accurate to 90% accurate, and electric types can’t be paralyzed.
Thunder wave should have perfect accuracy on Electric types - just like Toxic on Poison mons!
I remember playing Yellow on the VC as an adult and being shocked that my Charizard took super effective damage from an Ice Beam, I was like wait what
I hate how they changed Surf to hit everyone, yet Muddy Water still only hits the opponents,
Having your move nerfed because someone else was abusing it was wild. 😭
Not allowing Smeargle to use Dark Void was already enough. 😭
Darkrai must hate smeargle😭
I can't lie, OG Dark Void was so broken, the sleep would literally last forever and you could basically sweep your enemy's team for free
Prime Cresselia: I’m the best pokemon of all time
Prime Incineroar: No obviously I am
Prime Smeargle: 😈

Also, why were all those Golem's nicknamed Deidara? 😂
