- Torque converter gear swap / 12 tooth versus 15 / Juggernaut
Installed a 15 tooth Driven gear on the Baja racer / Doodlebug minibike to see if we could get any more top speed out of the combo. The engine is a 212 Tillotson E with a mod 3 cam, billet rod, VM22 Mikuni carb, and a header pipe.

Oldie but a goodie! Thanks alot again for all the testing you do bud!😊
Thanks for watching the videos!
Nice. This is the video I’ve been waiting for. Thanks for the upload!
I love the sprocket change video always cool see what make it faster
Ya, its always fun to see what the different gear ratios will do
You are the man "KEEP WRENCHING "
Thanks!
Good stuff I've almost got a few bike back together 😂
Awesome stuff sounds healthy
You should compare pwk24mm flatside carb vs the genuine flatside mikuni.
Love your videos bro. I miss Lucerne valley
Thanks! Ya, me too
Thanks so much for posting your videos. I really enjoy them. You are doing stuff that I can't wait to do once I get my Mini Bike com
pleted.
Thanks! Glad you like them. I have fun doing them
Looks like u still had some more to go!!! 50 for sure
Ya, i think so too
Badass!!!
3:00 where did you get your chain breaker? And does it matter what size chain?
Try a 60t on the rear, if you get a chance. I have that and a 12t on the driven. I'm working on driven springs at the moment.
What's better for you, red or green? I just got a juggernaut driver but haven't installed it yet. Have a feeling any tuning on the driver will have more effect than the driven. Let us know what you find!
Edit: I've got a 12t driven and a 62 split sprocket on rear right now. Went 59 in the 1/8. Keeps going faster and quicker with every 2t drop on the rear split sprocket. I've got at least 4 more sprockets to try until it slows down. Then go back up to it's sweet spot.
👍
nice!
when going to your 15 from the 12... did the rpm drop?
Does the torque converter work like a variator on a scooter we're two halves open and close and change ratios of acceleration or just a certain amount of gear reduction off of the crankshaft
yes
would this fit a 224cc predator?
Where did you find that engine plate or is it custom.. really cool
Thanks, I put the link in the description for the engine mount.
Does the jugg need a keyway?
What size driven pulley is it and if it’s a 7” what size belt are you utilizing?
Check out the Doodlebug playlist. It's hard to remember a given combo on this bike after many engine and part swaps. In some of the videos, I put links in the description for the parts used. ua-cam.com/video/141owDJWJgw/v-deo.html
Ok, I get the idea here- but I’m looking to go in the opposite direction. I put a 224 Predator on my mini, 30 series torque converter, it has a 10 tooth sprocket up front and I put a 72 tooth on the wheel.
Top speed was an unexpected 41mph on 21” tires. I wanna put an 8 tooth up front, I know it’ll knock down my top speed (not looking for speed with this build, I want max torque) what kind of gear ratio would I have here?
Check out this gear ratio calculator. You plug in the sprocket sizes and the tire height and it will spit out a speed depending on the RPM. www.gokartsupply.com/ratios.htm
@@Black66 9:1 gearing, cool. Thanks for the heads up👍🏻👍🏻

Have you done a test between a 6" driven pulley and a 7" driven pulley while using the Juggernaut?
No not yet...
Cool question
With the Juggernaut gearing there's no need for a 7" driven. The 7" driven works well with the stock driver. Better low end and no OD.
Who makes that chain breaker in the vid? It looks better than most.
Thanks.
Its an ARC racing chain breaker
@@Black66 thanks man, appreciate your response.
I subscribed to your channel too. Right up my alley, all I've seen so far!
@@williamstamper442 Thanks!
You gotta lower your teeth on the back sprocket to see some real numbers try 15/55
How fast are you going ?
Is that clutch. All that much better. ?
Yes!
so how faster is it compared to a 12tooth clutch just wandering.......Alrighhht
I think the converter makes it quicker . But not much faster
@@Black66 quicker as in takeoff and engagement to the booster rockets right lol good stuff man
@@Spacecruizer203 Ya, quicker not faster .
I mean faster as in top speed ,and quicker as in the time it takes to get to top speed .
@@Black66 hang on a sec Doc so u mean the time it takes to get u in the time u want to be in the future subtract the drag ratio from the out put of the boosters and bam Dyno Dna there ya have it folks ...Beast
@@Spacecruizer203 YES!
Where is your chain tool from please?
I picked it up from ARC racing
@@Black66 man you guys have all the good stuff in the states! i gotta get one!
Is that a #35 chain?
I’ve been trying to find a type c 15 tooth sprocket for #40 chain but the highest I find in 5/8 bore is 12 tooth I’m running a 10tooth at the moment with a 40 tooth rear and it does pretty good but I’d like a 15 tooth front sprocket. Just rambling here lol
Bro link the sprocket
Why do you have a 70 tooth sprocket?
That’s what came on the bike .
@@Black66 Got it!
15 to a 50 will give you 3.3333333333333333333 three is the magic number for top speed
I run a wheel adapter and split sprockets. Smallest split sprocket I've found is a 54. With a 15t front sprocket, rears in the range of 60-66 gives a great range for tuning.
I do agree that a 50t rear would be a nice option. The smaller the rear sprocket, the lighter it is, even if it's just a tiny bit. The sprocket on the rear is rotating weight which is even more important to reduce if possible.
3 miles an hour faster not worth it
3 MPH will count when we get close to 88 MPH for the time machine...
@@Black66 It will be worth it then
