- Randy Hansen performing the Jimi Hendrix cover "Voodoo Chile" at the Jimi Hendrix Annual Memorial Concert & Art Show on September 18th, 2011 at Jimi Hendrix Park. All videography and video editing by jeaniederange.
Randy Hansen is the only person who I have ever seen who covers Jimi the right way
What's the right way?
@@J0eMama90 the way that doesn’t make me sad I guess. Lol
@@J0eMama90 the Randy Hansen way
And you....are stupid. As is this cover.
John Mayer has a solid voodoo child tribute to Hendrix, but nobody does it better than Randy Hansen. SRV is a truly honorable mention, of course! But Randy went so far as to get a lefty strat and flip it righty; and then proceeds to crush it. And he has "the sound". Truly the best cover I've seen.
I booked Randy Hansen twice years ago when I ran a music venue in Northern California. The second time he played none other than Mitch Mitchell was playing drums. He is an amazing guitar player.
Randy Hansen began paying Tribute to Hendrix in performance 37 years ago with 'Randy Hansen's Machine Gun.' and performed on bills with Heart, The Kinks, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and others.
He won an Oscar for composing 17 minutes of the soundtrack for the 1979 movie 'Apocalypse Now' - (1980 Academy Award Winner for Best Sound).
His own debut album was released in 1980.
That group played two North American tours which included several coliseum shows with Bob Seger, Sammy Hagar, REO Speedwagon, Head East, Triumph, Poco and Blue Oyster Cult.
In 1984, he impersonated Jimi in the music video for Devo's cover of "Are You Experienced?"
Hansen's high energy guitar work has earned praise from fellow Dutch-American guitarist, Eddie Van Halen among others.
He also was a good friend of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Wrote a song about him called "Texas Twister" from his Old Dogs New Tricks record.
He has toured and played with hundreds of famous musicians and groups.
In recent years he and Leon Hendrix have toured the World.
Tina Hendrix holds a Memorial in September(s) for her Uncle Jimi and Randy performs, as seen here in the video.
(I've also got video from these performances on my youtube channel.)
THANKS for respecting him he's so under rated and has worked so hard to keep Jimi's music going!
The state of Leon Hendrix though, fucking deadbeat poser bitch.
Michael Townsly
I know Leon, and I know your characterization of him is no where near being accurate. He's not the performer his big brother was, but he's a great guy - liked by everyone who knows him.
Larry Linn My alcoholic uncle is liked by everyone that knows him...he's still a deadbeat loser though. Catch my drift? Leon was barely related to Jimi and definitely doesn't remember anything about him because of the 20 year age difference, but talks about him as if they used to party together. What a loser. I saw him play last year and I honestly would have rather listened to my own bowel movements through a pa system after a really fucked up curry.
Leon was Lucille's second child by a different father as well as Joe that's makes them Jimi's half brother's. If your a half brother that's half blood and that's hell of a lot more then barley related. Also there wasn't 20 years difference in Jimi and Leon's age Jimi was born in 1942 and Leon was born in 1948, 6 years later. Your just blurting out more bullshit like the uneducated "bowel movement" that you are!
As a Hendrix devotee for 52 years I an amazed at how close Randy comes. Way better than anyone else I have heard. Love Randy and his devotion to the master but there is still only one Jimi!
I just recently heard this guy on utube. I'm 75 and first saw Jimi in 67 in Memphis. I have been a fan of his music ever since and even have 2 posters in my bedroom right now. Randy thank you for loving Jimi and playing his music. You sound good!!
Damn. If you didnt see it you would believe its Jimi. Incredible.
Dave B except Jimi played left handed
naytch2003 how can you hear if someone is lefthanded?
naytch2003 Randy plays a left hand guitar right handed. Same thing only different.
Holy mother of doG, how have I not heard of this guy before! He's unbelievable! He actually gets the sound and feel right, but he also has the ability to inject his own genuine comping into it. Amazing.
I'm a huge love of SRV, but this blows any version he did off the planet.
SRV used to open Randy Hansen's gigs back in the days, so he probably learned a thing or two from this guy
Hey bro, i also like SRV but this guy right here Mr Randy Hansen is incredible, as you already said, this is even better than the SRV covers, easy, its an amazing talent to be able to sound like the God of Sound himself.
Randy should feel proud that even some of the best guitarist in the world can't do this display of skill
right. srv cant lick the shit off the bottom of Randy's shoes.
I live by Randy and have been a follower since the early 80s!! You really have to go to his show to really appreciate his incredible playing. He has alot of free concerts here and rocks them all. Ive seen him more an any band ever. Probably 20+ times Incredible every time!!!
@@steveleary6473 I saw Randy at the old Golden Bear club is the 70s
The way He played Little Wing and Manic Depression absolutely blew my mind.
I can remember thinking that HE MUST HAVE BEEN LIP-SYNCHING TO a recording
I've been a Jimi freak all my life and this is THE best cover I've seen. That man really deserves to wear Jimi on his t-shirt. Just awesome.
He is wearing his own pic in TShirt…Let not be confused 😊
My God, he has an identical voice, Great technique as well. We need all the Jimi impersonators we can get. Something is better than nothing
Wow the most authentic sounding Hendrix I ever heard.
I've seen a lot of Voodoo covers and they were terrible and even humiliating..
But Randy really has the Hendrix vibe and does it really good. Hendrix would have been proud!
What about srv's version
equally great Austin
Austin Beaty That’s just it... It was SRV’s version. This guy is the real Hendrix - right down to the bone!
@@Nitsua_Atayha what about it.
Check out frank marino
Seen him a couple times in the 70's. That tone is too perfect. 🔥
He is not Jimi Hendrix.
Randy pay homage to hendrix at the highest level I ever saw...
Listen to the real recording of Machine Gun by Hendrix, Then listen to this version by Randy. Like Holy Schite, I closed my eyes and totally amazing rendition. I was blown away. Those were my acid days... Hahaha. Thanks Jimi for your excellence and to you Randy for your hard work in bringing Jimi Back !
ua-cam.com/video/fNLTGgPL6V4/v-deo.html
torin haha this guy’s crap ua-cam.com/video/DaWwsmeiRj4/v-deo.html Eric Gales
First heard of this guy in 1981. Hands down plays better than Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan. Amazing tribute!
@@toring61_52 Hail to the Acid Days😎🙏✌
These eyebrows 🤣
Having Randy living in the northwest was a real blessing for Hendrix fans here. He played at some really small, great venues pretty regularly, as well as college shows. For those of us that missed Jimi in person, Randy is absolutely the closest thing one could ever hope to see. Great human being, too! Rock on Randy.
Randy is dedicated musician that believes in keeping jimi's music alive for all of us!! There are no other like him...i thank him and love him as a fellow musician and brother. It's been a rare pleasure to no and grow up with him in my life. Peace
Saw Randy several times around Seattle,Portland,Tacoma! Great, great guitarist in his own right, didJimmie like no one else!
i have NEVER seen anyone who can immitate Hendrix in playing and performanse like Randy.Fantastic !!!
He is not Jimi Hendrix.
He is the best tribute to Jimi Hendrix I have ever heard his voice even sounds like Jimmy!
He does, sort of looks like him too at times. And he roars on the guitar.
you should listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan.
~ Jimi, not Jimmy.
@@orlandorojas439 SRV was a guitar master...but still sounded like SRV. This Randy dude is Jimi incarnate.
Wow! Randy pays tribute to Jimi not only in music but also in the spirit of his performance.
Keep the music alive, Brother! I saw Jimi play 3 times in 1968, and met him the same year. This is as close as young folks will ever get to experiencing The Experience!
I,ve seen Randy perform several times and i got to say that he never disappoints. He plays and sings just like Jimi, that at times you almost forget that its Randy performing and not Jimi wailing out there.I,m a big Hendrix fan ,too young to have seen him in person,so this kind of lets me feel like i have, lol,,Great job Randy Hansen
Thank you Randy. For keeping the memory of the legend Jimi alive
There will never be another Jimi ... But this cat is awesome !!!!
I'm 72 yrs old. I saw JIMI live twice in Houston.as they I am Blessed. AWESOME
First saw Randy do a Hendrix tribute in Denver, Colorado-Sept. 1979. I still have my ticket stub. Lost track of him for years, now great to see he kept playing the tributes and got better at it!
Plays and sounds just like Hendrix. Very impressive 🎉🎉
POOR BASTARD this sound of guitar is bullshit
He is not Jimi Hendrix.
Every time I am amazed by his voice.. this is Jimi singing!!!
Thank you Randy for reminding us of the spirit of creativity of an iconic artist.
I used to know Randy ,back in the eighties he was great then ! and even better now.Keep on rocking Randy Hansen !
No way, your kidding
Randy the most underated guitarist in the world. You re awesome Randy !
I saw this guy at The Point East in Lynwood, IL. almost FORTY YEARS AGO!!!!
He STILL as good as he was then.
So good cover... I can fell the untamed magic and the groove of that guy who went away with his Angel to kiss the Sky...
OMG he has that authentic and legit hendrix tone. Lucky guy he is.
Have not heard anyone copyJimi as close the way Randy gets it done. Fly on brother.
I saw him about 40 or so years ago in Tulsa. He still delivers the best Hendrix tribute I've ever heard.
This is absolutely beautiful. This is how Jimi should be played. Rock on Randy!!!!!
Randy Hansen is an excellent guitar player. I'm always happy to see him play the guitar.
Thank you very much Randy Hansen for this video.
Outstanding cover! Jimi would be proud.
Best Hendrix tribute I've ever heard. Voodoo Child a favorite jam!!! meet you on the next one, and don't be late! :)
I love the way Randy pays the ultimate tribute to Hendrix by playing a left handed Stratocaster.
It also has something to do with the sound of the pickups being backwards to the strings. That's one of the only ways to truly authenticate Hendrix's guitar tone.
But remember..jimi played a ' right handed ' guitar..
Upside down..
But yeah..
I don't care..
Awesome Hendrix lives on..
High 5 maan
@@zmileyman Yep, Jimi played a right handed guitar because left handers were not common. More interesting is that Randy is left handed
He is having soul of Jimi in him, just like SRV did ! He have much inspiration in him at some places Randy is throwing in very nice creative licks, like he is addin some spices to a song.
This old timer knows how to do it! Much respect my man!
I'm a guitar player of 30 years... I have seen a lot of people try to imitate Jimi but you are so close if i close my eyes i can't tell the difference. Cleaner version of Hendrix... simply amazing!! Well done
I can tell the difference Max I reckon its jimis improvisational genius??
I am a fan. Fantastic tribute to a musical genius.
As close as anyone can get..
Very good... i could be fooled..
Hendrix in the blood..
Overall package..
10/10..
Thanks man
This is the best version of voodo child I have heard, sound like the original record.
I would have never believed a Jimi Hendrix tribute band existed. Rock on Brother!!!
Best version of voodoo child i think i have ever heard. Bravo guys. Great video!
Every time I watch it's like the first time. WOW. I bet Jimi is smiling down on you right now my brother
Hendrix has jumped back to earth in this guy....
There will only ever be one Jimi Hendrix, but damn, when it comes to tribute artists, Randy is right up there with SRV and nobody else is even close.
the tone!! nailed it.
Okay man, this is the real deal. We have an individual who has studied/played Hendrix from age 14. He knew his calling and has fulfilled his destiny. You may love Hendrix, you may despise Hendrix but one thing for sure, Randy has captured the authenticity and emotion of a rock legend in a way that has brought Hendrix fans to a place where they are actually experiencing the Experience! Randy, thank you for your devotion and thanks for your partner muscians for a memorable Eperience!
Freakin guy tunes while dive bombing with the trem. Awesome.
Fantastic , nuff said
Nice description!!!
Jimi did that, too. Amazing stuff like tuning during a song in a concert on stage. Talk about "multi-tasking"!
Wow Randy!!! You are Awesome! I have never herd anyone play as good as Jimi Hendrix, but you did. Amazing! You even sound like him!
There's only 1 Jimi Hendrix!!!! R.I.P. However I do appreciate this homage to the Master Blaster!!!!
Saw this guy nearly 40 years ago, still killing it.
I live by Randy and have been a follower since the early 80s!! You really have to go to his show to really appreciate his incredible playing. He has alot of free concerts here and rocks them all. Ive seen him more an any band ever. Probably 20+ times Incredible every time!!! Seen him even play with Buddy Miles at the Paramount!!! What a show to remember!!!!!!
@@steveleary6473 Where does he usually play at, what locations?
@@RadicalSharkRS He plays all over. Spends alot of time in Germany but all over the Seattle area as he lives here.
It's weird, because his persona is like Jimi as well.....if you watch videos of Jimi getting interviewed, Randy behaves like him, his shyness, smile and humbleness.....he sort of a reincarnation of the legend....or at least he keeps Jimi's personality alive, along with his music......Jimi's music will live on forever!
Yeah very true. His mannerisms and facial expressions, his singing and speech even seems to emulate Hendrix. It’s really kinda spooky in a way. Really like he’s channeling Jimi’s spirit.
Randy is the best amen
Wow, not getting the coverage he deserves. First time hearing him. Amazing cover, Jimi lives on!
Saw him in Santa Barbara back in the early 80s. Great show! Dude, broke and changed the E string on his guitar in the middle of the song! No tech, no stoppage and he never missed a beat! One of the best rock shows I ever saw! I'm 64 and I've been to hundreds of shows. I had not heard of him and he did not disappoint. Dude slayed us that night!
Randy enlivens the Spirit of Jimi, but has his own wonderful enclave of originals.
Hansen: You STILL Da Man!
Nice one Randy, amazing playing, it sounds like Jimi!
SORRY MAN YOUR ON DRUGS SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE HENDRIX
"Your" as a contraction of "You are"?
+DAVID WATSON dude you really are stupid if you don't think Randy sounds like Hendrix. obviously u haven't spent a 1000 hours listening to Hendrix like true Hendrix fans have dummy
YOU WOULD THINK YOUR REBUTTLE WOULD V BEEN STRONGER I GREW UP WITH HENDRIX SINCE I WAS 13 YEARS OLD I HAVE JUST ABOUT EVERY ALBUM HES EVER RECORDED IT PLEASES ME ME THAT YOU CARED ENOUGH TO REBUKE ME THAT MEANS YOUR A STOUT HENDRIX FAN NOW ABOUT RANDY WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR EAR TRAINED TO HENDRIX AND THEN YOU LISTEN TO RANDY HE SCREWS UP EVERY
GOOD LICK BY SWITCHING TO BASIC RIPS THATS WHAT I MEAN BY [HE DOESENT SOUND LIKE HENDRIX \BE COOL BRO THE TRUTH IS MOST OF YOU GUYS WERE SUCKING ON A FUDGE SICKLE AND WATCHING DONALD DUCK IF YOU WERE EVEN AROUND
DAVID WATSON I call bullshit on that he's spot on..
da hora verdadeira cover de Hendrix ,excelente na verdade ganhou reconhecimento pelo trabalho parabéns Randy Hansen.....
What can I say? Randy is great too! He recreated the same sound as Jimi.
I caught Randy at a club in Madison, WI back in the late 70s. The poster promoting the concert said: "Jimi Hendrix???" The guy was all over the place and I was amazed he still had air to sing. Besides doing justice to Jimi's music, Randy is a talent in his own right and highly respected among other guitarists world wide.
Después de escuchar miles de covers de Voodoo Child, Randy es el único que capta la esencia de Hendrix, martillazos a las cuerdas, volumen y distorsión al 10 e improvisación a raudales.
Jimi lives! wow what a performance, top notch Randy Hansen
That was the best cover version I ever saw of this track. Ever ever .
Ever.
portlandstone3mw I guess when you were at the SRV gig it must havew sounded good cuz it was loud and live. But really, while SRV played the songs well enough to be entertained, he actually did poor covers of JIMI. It was a;ways way too Texas sounding to ever have that Jimi feel.. SRV just never had that feel. Whereas this guy, he has that loose feel down pat. Also, when Randy sings, he sings Jimi well. The same Seattle accent too which helps.. SRV, he mutilated the feel of the tracks lyrically, completely just did not get them at all... and makes them very hard to listen to for me..
Randy gets it, gets the timing of the syllables and gets the feeling of each phrase.. For the overall package as a Jimi show, Randy wins hands down.
I do very much like SRV also, I just do not think he ever got the intricacies of what jimi was trying to express. I prefer SRV, when he did his own Texas blues stuff.
AWESOME! HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE MAN REPRISING JIMI N FULL EFFECT...TRUE HOMAGE TO HENDRIX...DIG! DID ANYBODY CATCH THIS GUY N THE 80s DOING HIS TRIBUTE? ALWAYS BEEN SO GOOD...THANK U
this guy can play and i think its great that hes keeping jimmi around
I'm so grateful that I had the chance to see you in Victoria (BC) 28 years ago! Mind boggling show. Thanks Randy Hansen!!
Me encantaría ver tu show en Chile algún día. sería genial ver a mis viejos sonreír una vez más!
Well deserved award ! Congratulations Randy !
10:22 to 10:24 I almost cry too 😢😢😢👏👏👏👏👏congratulations Randy Hansen you deserve it you really are the best jimi Hendrix tribute musician!
Great covers awesome vocals like Jimi!!!! ❤
Íncrível, muito Legal, mas Jimmy é o precursor, visionário deste magnífico som.
Having been into jimi since late 60s.
I can confirm randy is best impersonator I've seen great job
I believe this is the performer I saw warm up for Heart in Hawaii in 1977, he was amazing. I could be mixing him up with Randy California( but this video certainly reminds me of the guy I saw) Wow he is outstanding love the attack he has on that guitar!!
This is the video I saw on youtube have seen others to of his. Top Notch guitar player!
+Frank Cabibi That sounds right. I used to see Randy in the 70's and he is friends with the Heart folks. I believe he plays with some of their former personnel in another project currently. i can't recall the name of it right now.
+Frank Cabibi Also, Randy Hansen is still playing all over , inchding in Europe, if you are a Hednrix fan and havent seen him before, you gotta check him out!!
Every time I hear and see Randy I get chills
Dam this is outta sight man✌💜🌎God bless you all.
Saw Randy in Santa Cruz in '87 or 8.......BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER SEEN.......
I saw Jimi perform March 3, 1968, at the Vets Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio. He would have been impressed with Randy.
+F Melchor My mum saw him live on stage at the Isle of White rock festival 1971 and he did all of his neat tricks on stage
That's very cool, Jason. There was no one like Jimi.
well... Randy toured with his Hendrix coverband while Jimi was still alive so he knew about him ;)
@Don Riller Use your imagination, kid.
Saw Randy twice in Denver, in the early 80s. Amazing! I never got to see Jimi, but I feel like I had. Great performer. I remember him running through the aisles, and smashing his guitars the last time around.
omg the white Jimi! if I close my eyes and listen to vocals definitely sounds authentic
Is he really white? To me it's hard to tell his ethnicity
Diax1324 does it matter?
Maybe not as dark as Hendrix but he ain't white. Not that skin colour matters.
Just a mind blowing version, Love this.❤❤
thats fucking amazing keep on rocking randy
What Jimi would've done with todays guitar gagets.Jim's is still making new sounds today 50+ years after his transition thru other guitarist his influence and sprit runs through every electric guitarist fingers today.Jimi lives. Randy Hansen is the only musician communicating with Jimi sprit everytime he plays his electric guitar
This is scary ... Its like seeing hendrix in the modern day ...
kinda sad
A really nice blessed guy i have seen him in a interview at the Hendrix Gravesite.
For me the best Hendrix Covers player on this earth.
WOW HEAVY MAN COOL SOUNDS JUST LIKE J.H.
I have seen Randy Hansen live many times over the years here in Germany. Randy often plays here in Germany.🤘🤘
closest we will ever get to Hendrix.
happy to see Randy is still around, I use to see him often in Boston back in the 80's, AWESOME!
Holy crap is this guy good at nailing the Hendrix sound. Kids today should pay him some attention so all is not lost eventually. Tribute acts are mostly cheesy but not Randy, he's as close as anyone could get to the real thing and how jimi sounded 50 yrs ago. I'm also a big skynyrd fan and no tribute act has or ever will capture the original RVZ sound.
I've never heard anyone in my life so Eerie simular to Hendrick it is fucking unbelievable all the way down to the sound the movement everything, mind-blowing
Very awesome Hendrix tribute master. He has serious chops. Other than Stevie Ray Vaughn back in the day, and maybe including him, Hansen is the best at playing Jimi.
Absolutely gorgeous sir....
I'm speechless.
why the fuck don't they ask him to play on experience hendrix tour?he whould blow all the others of the stage including zakk..who semis to only wanna play a few licks fom hendrix then go into his a mindless shred fest sorry but that's the truth
Eric Kirk, dude, You heard it from Tina: Randi's the closest living thing they have!!
That's probably exactly why he isn't asked. Randy would upstage everyone. Even the best guitarists in the business know they can't touch Randy as far as the Hendrix tunes go. Only other dude that could come close is Frank Marino.
If you watched any of the hours of woodstock footage of Hendrix, he did the same mindless shredding too. He INVENTED it. It's the experience Hendrix tour, and you're going to experience it.
John Michael you must not know what mindless shredding is... I've never seen hendrix mindlessly shred. It's always soulful. I've witnessed Zakk mindlessly shred on the experience tour and it's such a turn off. He just plays as fast as he possibly can. Honestly Zakk sucks. Fast doesn't mean good
dboutte36 Zakk probably plays better than your jackass. Music isn't supposed to be a competition. And yes, Hendrix played lots of mindless notes on his guitar at Woodstock. You have zero clue....
I have seen and listen all of Jimi's stuff. In the last 30 years I've never seen anybody perform exactly like Jimi Hendrix. It's not like a gimmick Randy controls ... He plays like this alone at home ..... When he plays Jimi's music, he becomes Hendrix. Unbelievable to see. Randy is a treasure.
The dude even strung a left handed guitar upside down.
+US. Resistence a left handed guitar strung rightie lol...
+US. Resistence a left handed guitar strung rightie lol...
+Fell Wanderer exactly, strung upside down
That's drinkin, bud.
I think those are jimi's guitars
Randy has been around for a long time,I bought a cassette of his when I was a teen,it was pretty good,I was into everyone Hendrix at the time and the best at the time was Randy Hansen and Frank Marino
