The Henry employee that came up with the bright idea to combine the side gate with the removable tube magazine deserves to get a raise. The guy who figures out how to put a side gate on the Big Boy rifle deserves a pay bonus.

I have a Henry rifle and it has the smoothest of my 3 lever rifles. This will definitely be on my list! I have also had the privilege of meeting Mr. Imperato a few times. He loves talking to his customers. The first time I met him, I talked with him for about 30 minutes. At the end of our conversation, he asked for my contact information. About 3 days later, a box shows up from Henry and in it was full hats and coffee mugs for my wife and myself. Great man and a great company!

    It's a single action rifle.
Clear the chamber, drop the hammer, reload.
These have NEVER been unsafe rifles.
The side gate is ok but, it's never been a deal breaker for anyone who understands this.
For those of you, to whom it WAS, you now have the side gate.
These rifles are the VERY BEST I've ever owned or seen.
Like the 1911, if you don't own a Henry, you're missing a gun.

Henry has been working on the side loading gate for around 2yrs to perfect the design. It is a new release and obviously will take time to develop across the range of calibers and models but hopefully now we can concentrate on what beautiful rifles henry produce.
Lets see if all those who complained actually man up and buy a new henry or if they just wanted to bitch about something.

To me a brass receiver is something I'd only use on the range. Cuz when you're hangin' and bangin' out in the wood hood, you don't want to scratch up that pretty finish. Henry does make blued receivers; that would be my choice for a brush gun. Now all I gotta do is save up those pennies, because you don't get quality without spending some money.

I just got mine last week. After viewing a couple of videos on UA-cam I searched everywhere and nobody had them in stock. So I left my name and email on Davidson's Gallery Of Guns and when they finally emailed me I jumped on it right away. I knew it would not stay in stock long. I had it delivered to my local gun store and picked it up last Tuesday. I love it. The craftsmanship that went in to this rifle is very evident. The action on mine is very very smooth. Previously I had a Henry 22 lever action rifle, but all of my other lever action rifles were from Marlin and Winchester. If Henry comes out with this style of rifle that has both the side loading gate, and the magazine tube loading capability in other calibers such as 44 mag, 357 mag, etc..... I'll get those also because I like the feel of the Henry better than the Marlin or Winchester rifles. I paid $919 for my new Henry and it was well worth it.

Now mind you as I said I own only the 22 model and believe me it shoots subs and every thing else can't get any better and a wonderful training aid for first time shooters. I have used mine to help first time shooters and parents have been very happy at this for the main reason I am not an instructor just a plain person who makes sure they learn the proper use of a gun. Kings patent for that loading gate was filed in the 1800's folks. Nothing new here. Seriously though, I kind of like how they load from the front of the tube. Pistol calibers feed in a loading gate a lot slicker and easier than a 30 30. Most Marlins or Winchesters will beat up a round pretty good after loading and unloading it a few times during hunting season. You can pull that tube and unload a Henry really fast. I like how the Henry has both options. Now, just get the damn thing under 800 bucks and we'll talk.

These calibers are great for short range hunting and here in Oklahoma we are only allowed to have you round capacity in our rifles.great video awesome rifle. Keep up the good work.

While Henry did listen to the customers on the side loaders... they didnt do that on the caliber side of things I'm afraid. .30-30 I think was a good choice, but .35 Remington, and .38-55 were kind of odd choices... .45-70 or even .357 or .44 Magnum easily would have made better choices.
I still like Henry rifles however. I do hope they make on in .327 Federal Magnum, .45 Colt, and maybe even adapt the .410 for that as well. Still wish they'd make a .410 that takes 3 inch shells, but since they're based on .45-70 platforms, they dont really have to do extra work to make it function with 2 1/2 inch shells, but they would for 3 inch.

    • @TangoPapaWhiskey
      @TangoPapaWhiskey 5 років тому

I would give them a year or so. I thought the same thing when they came out with single action not being available in .357. They eventually made one in my caliber of choice. It helps with sales and hype to stagger the release of these things, and while it annoys me that I cannot get what I want today, I know it helps keep the company in business in the long run. I am ok with that.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would think that cycling the gun to unload the gun is actually less safe than putting your hand in front of the muzzle? One thing he doesn't mention is that Marlin has those hammer block safeties that everyone complains about, but in all reality, if you engage that safety while emptying your rifle, it's not going to go off, even if you accidentally hit the trigger. Also the whole thing about losing count is just stupid. Anyone who is unloading a rifle or shotgun by working the action should be pumping it 2 or 3 extra times to make sure all rounds are out and then check the chamber. If you "miscount," it is because you are being negligent.

However I haven't heard anything yet about them adding side loading gates in other rifles, but it seems like the new gun is going to be a big hit so I would imagine they will be making a side loading all weather rifle.

I've looked over Marlin 336 at my local gun stores and have seen no factory flaws. I love the side gate, pistol grip stock, drilled and tapped for scope, protective ring on front site. Lever is nice and smooth. Unlike the dude in video, I'd never try to hunt bear or bore with 150 grain ammo. 180 grain goes deeper and makes a larger wound cavity.
