Let's talk about pistol carries - strong side versus appendix carry. What are the strengths and drawbacks to each and where would one be more appropriate than the other?
Really solid video. Totally agree fixed blade placement. I can run a blade on my other hand hip, but; just can’t get comfortable doing it appendix. Thanks for the content.
New to ccw but not new to shooting. Down the UA-cam rabbit hole and I like your principles and methods and rationale better than the majority of guntubers
comes down to program compliance to me. much more comfortable carrying appendix and easier to conceal which allows one to carry every single day. thanks for sharing your point of view.
Climate and attire also should be addressed as CCW positions. Most anyone can carry a massive gun anywhere on your body when you're wearing a heavy flannel and jacket and baggy tactical pants. In Nevada, Arizona and hot weather places, most people wear t-shirts and shorts 9 months a year and huge guns on the hip (or anywhere) covered with jackets and long shirts just scream..GUN GUN GUN! Plus, size and body shape, age and flexibility play a part. 3pm is most comfortable for me but I print like crazy. Same with 4pm , so for ME it's down to 1-2:30pm.
The pros on appendix tend to be mentioned a lot more than than the cons, i.e. the pros of strong. One thing I notice from watching real encounters and reading about them. The ability to covertly draw is 10x more important and relevant than being able to draw quickly. And you tend to give that ability up when carrying appendix. As well when trying to draw in combatives. The opponent tends to be able to stuff your draw much more easier. I agree all in all strong, tends to be better for fighting. Appendix tends to be faster and easier to conceal.
Appendix can be better in a fight, it may be easier to stuff an appendix draw but get pushed into a wall a corner, a bar or the wrong side or flat back on the ground and draw strong side. AIWB is more accessible from more angles.
@@aricwormsbecher2138 I would say that is somewhat true, but way overstated. I’ve put that very thing to the test on the mats and it’s not anywhere near as bad as what most people say. But can definitely be a factor
@@joshuafreeman4459 I think everyone should carry how they're comfortable, honestly a j frame in a pocket holster is how I do a lot in hot summer weather in the south, which isn't ideal for anything except having some gun when you need it.
as a beginner I feel if I carry strong side I feel or think someone could grab the pistol more easily from behind me or along side of me ... while appendix carry is of course in my direct view
Should I Carry Strong Side or Appendix? Personal preference but you should know the dangers of appendix belly carry before you use that carry position. The pistol points at/muzzles the femoral artery in the legs. Personally I use other carry positions.
Totally agree with strong side being better for me, due to my belief that most deadly force encounters will start with an aggressor going hands on or grabbing at me. If I carry appendix, they can easily block my draw hand/arm when I attempt to draw. I like being able to turn my body and make it so that I am the only one who can easily access the weapon.
I started carrying AIWB, but never liked carrying against bare skin. Consequently, I've worn a tucked-in lightweight lycra type short-sleeved base layer and changed to a high & tight strong side OWB carry tucked up just under my ribs, slightly forward of 3 O'Clock and canted forward. Works for me. I usually employ a button-down cover shirt unbuttoned in most situations. Blackpoint Tactical holster and Sig X-Macro TacOps variant.
Outstanding vid! Good info presenteed well. Subbed. It takes courage to buck the current fad or trend. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessments - and have been absolutely excoriated on some gun forums for this. It's weird. AIWB has become almost a fetish these days.
Agreed. I started carrying years ago when strong side was the norm. I’ve habituated to that position and naturally reach there. I just don’t want to have to change at this point in life. I think it was John Bianchi said, “Same gun, same place, every time”. Consistency breeds competency. Great video sir.
The whole thing about being worried someone will go for your weapon when you’re plainclothes on duty or off and carrying concealed as a civilian,is a moot point. No one will know when you carry concealed-it’s a force multiplier to be carrying with way.
Strong side isn't great if you get pushed into a corner or if the gun is where a seat belt buckles. Appendix might be a bit slower but is available from more angles.
I will always stick to OWB open carry here in Sc . This is never practical for living in the real world as a trucker carpenter roofer mechanic on on . I never saw a ODp wear iWB unless in supervior position ..drive a TT unit all day that's up to 16 hours not you half day job of 8 hrs doing deliveries driving 500 - 600 miles in a shift with out having it off your body . OWB always there on the body . Enjoy have a great day . Cool I pissed off a few people . Like Condom no condom debate . Trump 24
One hand can be done AIWB. There are pros and cons to any position.
That thumb move to clear garment was very helpful. Thanks
I carry appendix i think its better for concealment and its faster draw but hip carry is superior from a combatives standpoint.

I love it. I am an appendix guy but the thought behind your why is awesome. Might hafta give it a try.

Love that your putting out new content Bill.
What ever is more comfortable you are with and that you practice on.
Tell you the truth I’ve never thought about running my set up that far forward on hip. Thanks brother for the tip

Bill is the man!
Well thought out advice. Yet even handed.
I carry both ways but more 3oclock bc I carry a full size gun and appendix is just too uncomfortable.

Appendix for me. Easier to conceal, secure, and draw for me personally. Thanks for the video!
Such a great perspective on positional carry.

Very good info...
Nice. There's a panther prowling around out there behind you.
Strong side is still the way to go. What's the fixed blade knife?
Excellent reasons.
Right on Bill 👊 !
I enjoyed your review.

This video leans more toward strong side or 3 o clock than AP. Good points but I’d like to see more benefits to Ap as well.
AP helps change your pronouns
Riding the bus you can have hand gripping gun AIWB with no one the wiser. Bag/satchel covers the preparation
I just came for confirmation bias 😁
To clarify, you would draw in a contact scenario vs gaining control?

Practice as you will fight. When practicing, I re-holster a hot gun thousands of times. Appendix is too much risk.
Don't you reholster a hot gun everytime you holster
appendix has the same risk as strong side your talking from inexperience

Appendix carry is for wannabe Martin Riggs
First of all, martin Riggs is a god among men, whom anyone of us should be honored to be like. Second, are you a boomer?
Nice. Succinct, objective points. Well done!
Any suggestions on a quality blade like you carry?
Yea don’t buy amtac. 500+ bucks for a knife NOT made in USA

Good informative video!
I'm a FUDD. I've been strong side carrying since before the KoolKids reared their young head!
This guy has never tried this with sims.
So many interweb experts. So little time.
I pocket carry. Top that, UA-cam!
