I won one of these at an NRA dinner recently. My dad always wanted a side gate Henry but was never able to get one before he passed. My first trip to the range with it will be in his honor.
Thanks for the video. I have one of the first Henry H009 rifles. Before the side gate but after the ghost ring sight. The factory rear sight wasn’t good for my 60 y/o eyes. So I replaced the rear leaf sight with a Williams Aperture sight. This required me to replace the front sight (.75 inch) because the factory sight was too short. It’s now my favorite Bullet Slinger!
What makes shooting a lever action 30-30 even more enjoyable is to pick up a Lee's Classics Reloader set. I know that reloading components are still hard to find but if you take time and keep looking, you will be able to get what you need. Hand loads from the Lee Classic Reloading set may not be the most accurate way to go but it is very affordable and a lot of fun.
16:04 lol ikr i think that to when a gun looks worn out,, You know its being used for hunting,, i got lucky finding a steel side gate couple weeks ago. I love it, it feels alot lighter then my Marlin 30as, nice wood. Smooth action out of the box, even more smooth with oil on it.
Great looking rifle. I really like the Henry rifles and want a 30-30 bolt action. Love seeing your happiness and enthusiasm about it. Great to see that it's accurate. I appreciate you shot it off the bench.
Just bought me one at Bass Pro Shop.. Been looking for the one with the big loop but saw this one in person and said to myself I can by the big loop from Henry myself.. my 5th Henry all with side gates. Been blessed. Made in America or not made at all..
Still very hard to find ammo 9 months later. I usually pick up a few boxes every time I find some in stock. Love my Henry. Picked up a Vortex 1-8 LPVO for this season and can't wait to use it.

I have a Henry H024 ....to those non Henry'rs that's 30-30 Brass Side Gate. Right outta the box she was 98% right on. Next I need me a 45-70, then 44 mag, then 444 Marlin, then 38-55, then 357 mag, then the new Henry side gate 50cal BMG but it only holds 4 rounds

I believe that the side gate models are safe to load and top off, but especially safe to unload since no loaded rounds are cycled through the action. 👍
@@easttexan2933 you don't have to put your hand near the end of the barrel to add a round with one chambered. The side gate allows you to add your +1 safely.
I have a Winchester model 94 that I've had since I was 8 years old (I'm 54 now). I've killed countless deer/hogs with it and I love it. I've been wanting a new gun and I think after watching this video I'm going to get one of the Henry side gate in a 30-30. I've been wanting a Henry but they didn't have a side gate for loading at the time but now they do. I've been waiting and looking for a excuse to buy a new gun and the side gate and this video gave me the excuse I've been waiting for 😋.
You have a loose screw on the right side of the receiver, could be the side gate screw? That's really beautiful wood, I wish the metal had a better polish though.
@@ehuntr512 I have been looking to get a 44Mag Big Boy Steel or Case Hardened depending on which rifle I can find. After seeing your 30 30 I am thinking it might be a better choice over the 44Mag. I have a-lot of 30 30 brass as I used to own a Model 94 chambered in 30 30 but sold it to a friend many years ago.
Perhaps you could answer this for me. Have you experienced a POI change when switching from the mechanized rest to firing off the shoulder? (Ie: resting on a sand bag or bed role) Also a great followup video would be comparing the accuracy in the Henry with 150grain and 170 grain factory loads. Also, if one loads a cartridge through the side gate to about the 90%, but not the entire way, and then load another behind that first round, using the bullet nose of the second round to push the first one in completely. That way one can only get pinched when loading the last round through the loading gate. You might need to use a receiver sight to get the proper elevation. Williams Fool Proof receiver sights are outstanding and is the Skinner receiver sight.

Great gun. I want to get one! Now then, since your emphasis seems to be on the "side gate", you should turn the rifle around , while you have it on the stand. The viewer should see the side gate more often. Especially when your video begins. Your production value will be much better.

Great rifle indeed. However I'm just not a fan I'm treating a firearm like it's a closet Queen. The scuffing on the side gate should not even be an issue. A firearm is a tool.. it shouldn't be abused.. but it shouldn't be treated like egg shells
