I had irritation on my lips for almost 1 year, the doctor said I had eczema. And I started watching all your videos about vitamins because I felt something was wrong with my body. After I consume 10,000 iu of vitamin D, zinc, omega 3, vitamin B. Now my lips are almost completely healed. I am very grateful for the knowledge of each of your videos. Thankyou doc 🙏
Can you share what you specifically did? Just regular supplements?
@@cbeark I do intermittent fasting to improve my metabolism, take vitamins and don't use any products on my lips until my lips can heal on their own without the help of drugs and ointments, and every night after I brush my teeth, I also brush my lips slowly to clean dry skin 😁

I'm a 56 female and I have been having digestive issues these last few years. Actually longer but your video helped me to realize alot of my problems are because I dont have enough Gastric acid to break down the meat I eat to be able to absorb all the B Vitamins. Thank you sooo much!!!❤
Probiotics...Fermented foods.Gutzy's(product)..One Gutzy...first thing upon getting up in morning on empty stomach...dont eat or drink for at least an hour after...after a week.I felt so much better...I am as old as dirt by the way!... with UC and all kinds of autoimune stuff. The meds alone required are enough to give an alligator digestive problems. Start religiously with pro and pre..biotics.Raw Kambucha drinks once a day are delicious and very helpful as well as Braggs Vinigar Tonics...most of these are refrigerated in almost all supermarkets. The vinegar tonics are made to taste quenching and refreshing ice cold. Not puckery at all and last of all... the Kevita products (Supermarket produce) are Great. They also have fantastic vinegar tonics with tumeric and ginger and elderberry added. Tumeric (helps inflamation a lot) and Ginger (Aids digestion and nausea)they come in suppliments too... or add to food. Check with doctor first. If you can..give it a whirl...It's really helped aleviate so much of these symptoms in a very short time!

You need to not drink water with your meals as it dilutes your acid
I've been telling people about this ,my lips tell me ,whenever I eat junk?they become very dark and dry out fast...but when I eat right and drink water they become lighter

What is the vitamin deficiency of ur prblm?
B12
Yes, yes. I knew it, I knew it. I figured that crack on the side of my mouth was a B deficiency. It comes and goes. My body was trying to tell me something. I appreciate and use Dr. Berg's videos even from years ago to help educate myself on health issues. Thank you, thank you Dr. Berg for your in-depth explanations. Angular cheilitis can also be caused by SLS in toothpaste and face creams . You’d be amazed how many toothpastes contain this substance .
@@carolthomas8528 I had mouth ulcers for years.because of that. I use natural and organic toothpaste now (I usually dont.bother with natural and organic)After horrible pain and too many doctors(🦆🦆🦆s) perscriptions that made me sicker....I finally acidenntally found out about the toothpaste. In less then 2 weeks...the deep painful fisures on my gums and tongue were almost gone. Toms is great..Hello brand....Burts Bees..etc. they usually come with or without floride too👅👄
I used to have that problem after eating fresh tomatoes. My friend had same problem and he had noticed same thing. I don´t know what is in tomatoes to do that. First i tought it might ne pestosites nut here in Finland tomatoes are grown mostly inside of greenhouses and they don´t use pestosites.
Do you know if it is safe to take b2 and b3 every day? I realized that if I take those vitaminas every day, my lips look fine. If I don't, they look choped and cracked.
Thank you.
You have a gift of empowering us with the knowledge to keep ourselves well. Thank you Dr Berg.
Dr. Berg , please also consider the effect of SLS in toothpastes particularly and in face creams . This substance, or of a similar name , is a common cause of angular cheilitis , sore inflamed gums and skin rashes .
I guess that's why my lips dries out in the winter 😅 though I use organic coconut oil as a moisturizer; rather than cosmetic brands, and it's usually very effective. Thanks Dr Berg 😊
It's my pleasure. Glad you liked the video!
Some of the newer Blistex products like Hemp and Acai Renewable lip balms are actually quite good and you only need to apply it once per day basically unless you're outside alot .
Cod liver oil supplements Wild caught salmon oil supplements , grass fed butter and lots of olive oil .👍
Good on the coconut oil, best to keep it simple....
Coconut oil alone is not a good moisturizer at all whatsoever
Taking Cod Liver Oil has taken 10 years off our skin and made our lips so smooth. Thank you Dr Berg!
It's my pleasure. Glad you liked the video!

@@michaelpoger6662 COOL THANKS
Our
Awesome video and amazing information as usual Dr B! Thank you. I'm African-American so sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on with my lips specifically but I take all these premises and will apply them as needed. But I wanted to say that since I started taking cod liver oil, nutritional yeast, keto energy, the cruciferous SuperFoods, and also the vitamin d and k supplements, strangely enough, I don't even have to put any lotion on my face. My skin is so soft and kind of automatically moisturized. I don't know if it's a good thing that I'm making this kind of oil production but it's been really great to not even have to worry about what to moisturize my skin with. As the summer goes forward, thinking about sunscreens and things like that will be interesting, but I have a feeling you have some great information on natural sunscreens from food and vitamins. I've actually heard that astaxanthin or astaxanthin supplements are really great for a natural sunscreen. But just wanted to say thank you and that you're the best!
Good info❤ thanks
Gosh I've had the worst case of chapped lips and now I know why!! Thank you!!
Most welcome!
Doctor Berg.
My liver is not at its best lately but doctors are not concerned. And my lips are always chapped and dry especially the lower one. Is it still a omega 3 deficiency .
Hope to hear from you
My son had cracked lips and mouth sores for years. Plus many other symptoms. He was finally diagnosed with Crohn's😊🙏🏽
Did he heal his lips? If he did, can you tell me how? Thank you.
Dr. Berg is right about vitamin A. I have had these symptoms due to vitamin A toxicity (hypervitminosis A). I have been balancing it for over 2 years now with vitamin D to reduce the toxic effects. Vitamin A has an extremely long half-life of about 5 months. I have been through 6 half-lives which should have dropped my vitamin A to about 1.5% of what it was when I started a very low vitamin A diet. However, I still have high vitamin A, and still have lots of symptoms, although I have improved markedly.
What have you been taking for your vitamin A? Are you taking a supplement or getting it from a food source? What symptoms have you had?
@@caitlynnp9507 Supplemented Vitamin D, Vitamin K2, Magnesium primarily. I have also taken trace minerals and B-complex, but not for the entire time. I also have taken vitamin E at times which was supposed to help, but didn't seem to. My symptoms were extreme pain and bloating in my liver, gall bladder and abdomen. Bone pain in legs, back and arms. Headaches that would last for days and weeks. Huge painful lumps between my thighs that were full of blood. Calluses on my fingertips and feet. Dry skin primarily on my legs, but also arms at times. Chapped lips, receding gums. Ridges and streaking on nails. Loss of lunula on nails. Loss of body hair in various places, primarily legs. Heart racing. Probably a few more things I'm missing. These symptoms weren't all simultaneous, but they would recur repeatedly for extended periods of time.
I first knew there was something wrong when I had what's called visual aura on about 2-3 occasions. About 9 months after that, I would regularly become instantly sleepy while driving when there was no reason for it. I actually had back pain a few years before that, but thought it was my mattress so I bought a new one which didn't help. Going to the gym seemed to help for a few years. Later on I found out this was bone pain from pelvis. I thought it was the muscles in my back before that because I didn't know what bone pain felt like.
When I finally removed all vitamin A from diet is when symptoms became really bad. If your liver is full of vitamin A, once you stop ingesting it, your liver begins releasing it quickly.
My symptoms are much milder now, but a lot of them have not fully dissipated even after more than 2 years. I was worried this was going to kill me or cause me to need a liver transplant over 2 years ago. I was never an unhealthy person before this, and always physically fit with no health issues at all. I believe my problem came from years of a daily high quality concentrated epa/dha supplement (derived from fish oil from a pricey retailer known for longevity research) as well as diet with a very high amount of high-fat dairy and 3-4 eggs daily for years. I mention these foods because this is where all the vitamin A was coming from over the years. I'm not condemning these foods in any way, but this combination over a period of years is the only way I could have become so high in vitamin A.
Oh, and just as a mention. These symptoms were so severe, they stopped me from working for 2 years as well.
One last thing I forgot to mention. I did take a one -a-day multivitamin from that same high end retailer that contained 3000 iu of vitamin A. That was on and off probably about half the time over a decade.
@@marcv2648 this so-called vitamin D is not a vitamin but a hormone. I would never take it externally. I expose my body to sunlight. I never supplement with vitamin A. I get it from grass-fed butter and grass-fed liver and meats. You probably had vitamin A toxicity. I follow Morley Robbins and his Root Cause Protocol. Get get his book titled [C]ure. I guarantee that you will learn a lot. Good
How did you know you really had hypervitminosis A ?
@@dae133 I've had a lot of tests.

Thanks for the presentation and analysis..
Dry lips ... me and many of my friends.. addicted to chapstick. I've been hooked on chapstick over 35 years.
I would never dare be without it during my waking hours
I'm extremely chemically sensitive and have been for 20 years. I do liver cleanses every so often and try to be CAUSE over the situation as much as I can, but that has not totally solved the issue. Staying away from as many chemicals as I can has been the best solution so far. But some interesting things happen to me when I get chemical exposure from something: I can taste it in my mouth within a few minutes and my lips dry up, turn white and just slightly burn. I normally know what might bother me but starting in 2017, I noticed something that I couldn't quite pinpoint. Through a long process of elimination, I finally identified what it was in 2019 as it got worse and worse: my cellphone. I have allergic responses now to lithium-ion batteries. These batteries vapor. And the larger the phone, the worse the vapor. The average person cannot detect it (although some people occasionally do if you Google "What is that smell coming out of my phone"). It apparently took a few years to sneak up on me and now it's so bad, I had to ditch my phone in 2020. If I am around anything or anyone with a lithium-ion battery now in an un-ventilated space, my lips are my first warning signs to beat feet. Hope this helps anyone else experiencing something they can't identify.
Go to you tube search for MCS, just my advice. I'm not a doctor
Hi,when u say slightly burn, does it turn blackish, even on the insides of ur lips?
@@baybaymarino5498 Hi. No. No black-ish discoloring. Thankfully.
That's so true what he said about mineral oil drying out the skin. I used cerave healing ointment on my face to occlude hot spots (areas prone to getting dry) and the next day I woke up with even worse dryness and flakes around my mouth, nose and chin. Never again.
Sorry to hear what happened. Thanks for sharing your experience.
In the past, I frequently consumed fruits and vegetables as part of my morning routine. However, I began experiencing a disconcerting phenomenon where my lips would exhibit a bluish hue after consuming these items approximately two years ago. Subsequently, I discovered that I had developed an allergic reaction, with a heightened sensitivity to various substances, particularly fruits and vegetables. Upon further reflection, I came to understand that my consumption of fruits and vegetables had inadvertently exposed me to excessive levels of pesticides and chemicals, thus jeopardizing my well-being. Additionally, I have gained insight into the underlying cause of my lip discoloration during the ingestion of these food items. Food has tob chmal free and mold free order to healp you heal.
Iron deficiency can also be lack of vitamin c, which, in its whole food form, is also a source of bioavailable copper and can also help with collagen production which is good for skin. Bonus.
Chronic inflammatory conditions can be responsible for iron deficiency..
I've had dry, peeling lips my whole life. I was always told to stop picking at them. I get it on the skin just below my fingernails too. My lips turn blue occasionally along with my hands... seems to coincide with feelings of anxiety, but not always. Asked my GP about it. He had no idea.
Can you do a video on sweat, what it's made of, WHY lose minerals through it and not just h2o if they're so important, what anhidrosis is and what can cause it. I notice when my sodium gets too low, I get this problem.
PS. I LOVE cod liver! It cleared up my chicken skin and my face is so smooth! I notice when I don't eat it for a week, my skin not as good. Will eat some tonight and give you an update on my lips!
Avoid sugar.
@@rukhsanaakhter9613 I haven't eaten refined sugar for nearly 3 years. So it must be something else. Thanks for the suggestion tho.
What brand do you take for your cod liver? Where do you buy it?
@@caitlynnp9507 I use the brand ican which I get on Amazon. Tip: make the oil into mayonnaise, then add a tbsp of fermented whey or milk/water kefir and stash in the fridge. It will keep without going rancid for months. Tastes great in an egg salad with avocado 😋

Thank you so much Dr. Berg! I tell everyone about you and how much better I feel when I utilize your advice. I do want to add one thing. I had a dry spot on my lower lip for many years. I tried everything on the market to no avail. When I visited my Dermatologist I mentioned this to her. She was not at all concerned but did a biopsy anyway. Well, I had Squamous Cell Carcinoma and had to have it removed and my lip reconstructed. Please always remember to make sure you are covering your lips with a sunscreen when you go outside!
I'm so glad you did this video. I'm having this problem right now, so now I know what to check for. Thanks Dr Berg 🙏🏿
It's my pleasure. Glad you liked the video!
I considered myself "addicted" to Blistex at one time in my life. I had a pot of it everywhere and was constantly smearing it on my lips. When I learned that this was actually drying out my lips, I stopped and used a thin coating of vaseline. After a month or so, I would use less and less vaseline as my lips were not nearly as dry. I also used natural oils like coconut oil or ghee. Helped a lot and now find I barely need it at all.

Yea OMG I always had chapped lips literally all my upper childhood into adult years. It wasn't until I had a post nasal drip cough for 5 months straight, that by the time I saw a Dr and got blood work done they told me my iron was low.
I took iron pills for 90 days and i kid you not the discoloration I had was gone and my lips were more supple. They still get dry but not as much as they used to. Never knew it was minerals.
I grew up on antibiotics and always had awful cracks in the corners of my mouth. I was also a sugar and carb addict...now I'm trying keto but sugar is so addictive. It should be classified as an addictive drug. Many thanks for your videos

Thank you! I’m having a lot of good fortune finally being free from grains (due to your work) and being cautious around vegetable oils, maltodextrin and the like, but I don’t have any numbers to provide about my changes, because I avoid conventional medicine (which is why I lived longer than I should have based on my body and the shape it was in), which is and has been inconvenient and expensive anyway.
Otherwise, great stuff, as always.
My situation is odd. I moved countries and recently my lips became so severely dry, tight and peeling ALL the time.
I had a long visit back home in North America and my issue cleared up in a week but I’m back in Europe to stay and the issue is back!

Seriously everytime I am experiencing or trying something new nutritionally you make a really informative video on that topic. It's like we're on the same wavelength. Thanks for such great content- and always keeping me learning!
i have the cracked corners right now. i just started fasting and i think i'm lacking nutrients or it could be angular cheilitis but i did buy a cream for ringworm which contains clotrimazole and it helping clear it up fast!
Thank you Dr Berg. Taking omega 3 is reducing my dry lips fairly quickly. My child also said the same thing. I'm glad I found your video.
I've always had dry chapped lips except when I traveled to tropical climates. Since going carnivore they improved immensely but still a little chapped. I'll start eating more fish and cod liver oil to see if it helps. Thank you.
I'd still get chapped lips even though I'd been on Keto, took Omega-3s, Vit. D3, cut out Omega-6, took multi vitamins, etc., and drank 6-8 cups of water, plus other liquids. It happened more in the fall and winter, but still would occur if I didn't consume enough water. It's really annoying.
Olive oil is the only thing that worked for me. Just enough to moisturize... I'm a man too Bill.
This is Chilities. Annoying truly 😢
This is cheilitis I have same something help u
Oh my. I have heavy periods so I'm anemic and according to my family spinach is important and on top of it we don't eat much read meat because "it's bad for health", I'm gonna definitely research further, anything they've been feeding me hasn't actually worked up until now and it's been more than 5 years with this condition.
Glad I eat a high animal/keto diet. Best for type 2 diabetes as well. Lots of wild salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel. 4 eggs every day. Beef, chicken and lamb as well. I do eat organic veggies too, and love the mixed mescaline salad mix that I make Greek salad from.
Thank you. Just what i needed. My upper lip has been dry for 5 days now.

Some years back i got cracks for eating fresh tomatoes. I don´t know what tomatoes have that made those, but it happened every time.
Also the climate has effects. As i live in Finland it´s very common to people here to have dry lips at wintertime.
And for blue lips are one sign of weak blood circulation and is cause of some sort of heart problems. If you haven´t got diagnosed heart problems you should keep that in mind and see a doctor if it happens to be the problem.
This is a very informative video and now I have an idea of why my lips are dry even if I’ve been using lip balm... I definitely will do my best to balance things out nutritionally. I’m grateful to have found this video. Great content!
Could you please make a video on exfoliative cheilitis
You're amazing, Dr. Berg!! Thank You for giving Your time, generously.♡
Very glad to be of help and I'm happy you like the video.
I ate white flour baked pies and cupcakes for 2 days. Next day I have sore corners of my lips, later I got sore shoulder, resulting in lots of pain, exhaustion and headache. I was finished. 😩
I’m curious know what Dr. Berg thinks of this comment I read about resistant starches and how this might be incorporated into Keto dieting. Quote: “resistant starch Is formed when certain starchy foods, including potatoes and rice, are cooked and then cooled. The cooling turns some of the digestible starches into resistant starches via retrogradation .” Hope you see this and do a video Dr. Berg.
Please also make a video on pigmentation or dark patches around lips.
Thank you for the video suggestion. I will check with Dr. Berg about doing a video on this!

Hello! Glad to know that you liked this video and found the information informative. Thank you for watching!
I am very peculiar in subscribing channels on you tube as they come with a hidden cost of developing an opinion in your subconscious mind. However, since the day I have subscribed to Dr Berg, I have hardly missed any video. It has tremendously broaden my spectrum on fitness and nutrition and have greatly helped me to maintain fitness in my 30s. Thanks a ton Doc. 👍
Hello! Glad to know that you liked this video and found the information informative. Thank you for watching!
@@Drberg my pleasure doc n team 👍
What about Actinic Cheilitis? It effects my lower lip terribly!!! Took a round of topical chemo once, that helped for about a year. But the peeling is horrific!
I experience crack and dry lips every winterbut it come back when the season ends. Have a nice day Dr. Berg💕
Still watching even tho I have nice lips. Appreciate you Dr. Berg 😊
Glad to help!
Lucky you
It’s like we ask and you deliver ❤. I have very dry lips and now have cold sores to boot. I take d and zinc, so will increase my omega 3. Thank you.
You are most welcome glad you found the information useful!
If a cold sore starts, try spraying it with iodine. Betadine at Walmart.
@@Jojorocks23 yes I did because that’s all I have in the house and it dried it up, just a few little ones have sprung up and will continue. I didn’t know how good iodine was.
I am always amazed how you you tap into these topics on the body that are fresh
Dr. Berg, I never smoked and have those lines. I had to drink water and smoothies using a straw for many years though..
I have to say I was sceptic in the beginning but I followed your advice and I am taking some vitamins once a day to workout and my energy and the weight I lift have increased a lot! I would like to ask you for advice I have a friend with this Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease what kind of supplements / vittamine should she take? thank you
could dehydration cause chapped lips? I find when I fast, especially 3 days with little water, my lips get dry/chapped.
Yes. I’ve had chapped lips all my life due to dehydration. Now I buffed up my water intake, I still have it and that’s why I’m watching this video. Up your water intake. It will help.
Thanks for opening our eyes to this Doctor Berg. Thanks for always being there to help us out. More grace, more insight 🙏 🙌 👏
You are awesome, Dr Berg!
Thanks for your positive feedback!
Dr. Berg Vs. Dr. Michael Gregor. My head spins!
Which one looks healthier?
@Reggie Johnson I agree. Keto ftw
Team Berg!!! 🙌 🏅
Thanks for watching.
Dr. Gregor looks like he's on death's door, and he's younger than Dr. Berg.
In my 70's, I have developed unsightly, multiple vertical lines around my lips and I have never smoked. Could it be a result of severe dehydration a couple of years prior? Genetic? Loss of collagen? Thanks for your videos...
Chelated copper helps for collagen production
@@janedoll3237 Thank you for your reply! I will look into that...
Increase fresh fruits for better natural hydration !!!
I believe our bones shrink with age, which is why we see lots of changes in our face. I have the same issue and never smoked.
@@5MinRaw very good suggestion. Thnx.
Time to go judge everyone. 🤣
Thank you so much Dr. Eric berg for every single video. You are a great man
Thank you so much for those very kind words :)
Has anyone had random lip twitching? I started taking an iron supplement and it stopped, but I thought it was so weird.
What you did to overcome?
@@pk-th1vh Not sure, possibly the iron? It might be worth having your iron levels tested.
Hey dr Berg. Do you know if there is any correlation between asthma medicine and dry lips? Maybe even dry skin in general around the face? It seems for me that some asthma medicine just dry my lips and around the mouth/mustache area very bad.
Same here
I never get chapped lips or dry skin as long as I take fish oil. When GNC used to have that deal where you had to go at a certain time to get a deal, it was a problem. I'd wait to get the deal, but if I ran outta fish oil earlier I'd start getting chapped lips and dry skin in winter NJ. This proved to me what was working.
Great timing, Right when my lips started to look chapped and unpleasant.
Dr. Berg, what is your opinion on daily use and reapplying sunscreen throughout the day? Mineral and Chemical. Thank you! :)
don't like it
Thank you!
Dear Dr Berg, I so enjoy your shows, but please can you do one on a very cracked, dry sore inside nose. It’s been driving me crackers for about 6 weeks now. I do get it quite often too. Tried all kinds of edible organic oils, so if there is anything you can recommend, I’d be VERY grateful. 🥰🌹👏💕
Yes! I have this too and a lifetime of congestion
Check with a Dermatologist or ENT doctor.
Maybe get a biopsy to rule out a cancer.
@@marlenegold280 eeeek, I had an important weekend, so the very day I posted that , I thought I’d try hydrogen peroxide, and it stung a little, but it’s helped somewhat so far, so I’m hopeful. It’s like the miserable anger has gone out of it, and it’s trying to heal/dry up. 🤷♀️
I really needed this, thank you so much doctor. God bless you ❤
Very glad to be of help and I'm happy you like the post.
Dr. Berg , thanks, I have great help to take care of myself, since I started to watch your videos concerning my any health issues with your valuable advice.
Can Dr. Berg do a video on how to instantly destress for those of us in a (momentary) state of overwhelm? Is there a food or supplement we should be going for?
Change in diet.
have you tried meditation?
magnesium may help. I take magnesium with calcium and zinc, but maybe just magnesium will help.
EFT

Thanks for watching.
Hey Dr. Berg. I have dark lips from smoking but I've quit for good. Is there a way to reverse the process through dietary or habitual changes? Or is any medical procedure recommended? Thank you for all the videos. You have infinitely improved my eating practices. I am maintaining a healthy weight over a long period for the first time in my life.
Lemon honey sugar granules scrub a little the rinse.
Good for you.😊😊😊😊
My favorite Dr ever... ❤️
Thanks! Appreciate your comment!
If you have dry lips it's nothing to do with omegas, it's dehydration. I am surprised that it wasn't mentioned as the first thing to be checked. I am on the WFPB diet and never had any iron deficiency. It's a myth that you need to eat animals to get it.
