Just because YOU feel weird wearing fitted clothes, it doesn't means it's not the way it should be worn. Two sizes bigger and his clothing would look loose and baggy, which is tacky. His suit was definitely costume made for him, it's not constricting on him and it covers what it should cover; in other words, it fits him flawlessly.
He was spot on about the most revolutionary designers being those who know how to make a suit. Look at Giorgio Armani. Look at Thom Browne. They absolutely changed their landscape around them, and all because of a suit. A pity that he, as a (relatively) stylish person, should know that the should be wearing higher-rise pants with that jacket. That little triangle looks terrible.
Just like so many other people, he worries too much about people's perception of certain items. I don't like tiebars or hats because of the people wearing them. Haha.
What's wrong with tie clips? They look good and they're very practical. Especially if you have a job which requires a suit though is not located in an office.
Honestly do you see the average man these days walking around in a Suit and tie? I think not. These aren’t just about what they’re wearing it’s about the person who’s wearing it and to sell menswear
@Tom Silverheart The only true faux pas is wearing brown leather shoes with black leather belt. Black tie is absolutely fine (it especially looks great with a grey jacket), it is a black suit that could be considered either a mistake or a bold fashion statement (Tom Ford wears black suits perfectly). And the undershirt is also fine as long as it isn't visible under the dress shirt
I feel pretty good... the outfit he wore out is pretty much the exact same I wore last Friday. Brown glenplaid blazer. White oxford shit and tie. I wore darker jeans and similarly colored, albeit much cheaper wingtips.
He's entitled to his opinion, I disagree with his 'no black' 'no hoodies' remarks, as each has it's own place and purpose. He's wearing the same outfit, it's just he indoor portion of the video has a very dark sepia-esque filter on making his pants/jacket appear darker/browner
I don't think that the final rear view of him walking (from 2:37 onwards) looks very stylish at all. The clothes don't seem to fit properly or look right. You have to be very careful how to wear a double vent jacket.
Everything this man says is the perfect representation of the kind of vapid nonsense that spews forth from people who've spent too much time in the fashion industry. It's filled with people who love to flap their mouths up and down with authority like they know what they're talking about, but as soon as you analyse the conversation you've just had with them, you immediately realise that they've talked and talked without saying anything at all. Talking bullsht like this is certainly a talent. :)
I get that he is British, but why is putting on a tie in front of a portrait of the queen? Also, why does he have a portrait of the queen like he's in MI5 or something?
I'm actually really sad about some of the views on here. I love Nick as a person and admire him hugely as a style icon. I couldn't agree less that this is "vapid nonsense". I think he makes good points in what is at the end of the day, a three minute video intended to be a short pleasurable experience. His rules are his personal rules, nothing wrong with that! I don't wear tan shoes or large checks - that might sound weird but personal rules are personal rules! Style is up to the individual.
_"There is a thirst for something that is sort of your own, sort of authentic, that not something everybody has.... Every word this man has said is well thought out and put together to really define what style-fashion means and all the conceptions around it.
Apocalyps In my opinion (everybody has one), he looks and is dressed like polished shite, aside from a fairly nice pair of shoes that were likley $400-600 overpriced for what they are. -Another "Typical" American
What are you talking about? :D I think you're the one who needs to lighten up my friend. One of my problems with what he says is that he openly talks about disliking people for wearing tie clips and fedoras. That is the very definition of close-minded, moronic and pathetic. And that is the perfect representation of what the fashion industry is all about. A bunch of idiots all talking with authority about nonsense. :) I've worked in the fashion industry, I know.
If this is his definition of everyday elegant clothes, he probably is colorblind. This dude just wore 4 colors together. And his posture is horrible. Overall: he just looks sad.
Black belt brown shoes?
probably the most apt and fair perspective regarding fashion and style and how they can intertwine
Absolutely Love this series and I hope to see more in the future!
Lovely video, lovely style and love the voice.
Not really sure what he was trying to say
i like how at the end he's wearing 'vaguely denim looking slacks'. how the fashions have changed.
Isn't his tie black?
Just because YOU feel weird wearing fitted clothes, it doesn't means it's not the way it should be worn.

Costume made?
What kind of watch is he wearing?
love his apartment!~ God Save the Queen!
music?

I've been going through a lot of "the way I dress" videos and in my opinion this is the most applicable to me.
i like that
What's the matter with tie clips?
I loved your comment. I agree with you 100%. You just said something I've never read before, but have always thought and agree with.
Just like so many other people, he worries too much about people's perception of certain items. I don't like tiebars or hats because of the people wearing them.
Haha.
I just watched and thought exactly the same thing, disliking someone because of an accessory they choose to wear is so incredibly shallow.
He hates people who wear tie clips therefore he hates the people at esquire. Hmmmm....interesting
So a dark tie with light brown shoes and highwaters? Got it.
mod? mod? I need to investigate this concept further. thanx ben sherman
What's wrong with tie clips? They look good and they're very practical. Especially if you have a job which requires a suit though is not located in an office.
liked his style.. and the dorset accent ;-)
he doesn't have a Dorset accent aha
Geography teacher style 🤔
Is it just me or does this guy seem like he has average or normal style !!!
Honestly do you see the average man these days walking around in a Suit and tie? I think not. These aren’t just about what they’re wearing it’s about the person who’s wearing it and to sell menswear

What are those shoes called? They're not loafers what are they?
Brogues with laces
wingtips
Oxfords
Are you nuts? His suit fits him flawlessly.
his trousers changed color
No humility and he didnt impress
he shouldn't wear a pocket t-shirt under a tailored shirt.
he might not have wanted to be naked in the video
Bon Chang Why not?
I like the video, I don't take anyone's word as law.
Who in their right mind, wears a T-shirt under a smart shirt and tie. And this guy is an Esquire fashion expert! LOL
You mean an undershirt?
americans, apparently
Looks amazing. Troushers should be a bit darker though
Why'd his clothes change when he went out the door?
Looking at the picture of Queen Elizabeth like it's a mirror.
I feel pretty good... the outfit he wore out is pretty much the exact same I wore last Friday.

No hoodies. No blacks.... Hmmm....
He’s niggaphobic 😂

No Black? Hmm if he goes to a funeral he will wear his Blue Levi’s Jeans
I can see why you are offended by “no black” lol
black belt and brown shoes..........?
I want to bax up this guy.
And jacket looks too short for his butt. lol
not wearing tie clips even though you like them just because you don't like the people who usually wear them is ridiculous

this kid hanse clue
This look would've been so much better had he gone for better tailored and more demurely coloured trousers
yo his trousers are tailored
we should just entitle all of these videos as 'man wears suit'
I get that he is British, but why is putting on a tie in front of a portrait of the queen? Also, why does he have a portrait of the queen like he's in MI5 or something?
"Style does not stay the same?" WTF? style is consistent no s***
His collar is way too short
His tops look too small for him.
Mr Porter videos are becoming increasingly more dull, which is really just emphasising the fashion industry's attitude towards menswear in general.
Buy a mirror please
No black rule - yet he wears a black tie?
Pet Peeve when you dont turn your collar down fully at the back... looks terrible! 1:06

This guy gave me a headache. No tie clips, but definitely tie clips. But not the people who like them? Then why buy one to begin with.
Why does he sound snobby and arrogant? Even his facial expression says, "I'm better than you." Also, I'm pretty sure he's wearing a lot of black.
cause hes British
Not everyone from Britain is like that.....
Well the fucking noob can't even wear a belt that matches his shoes. He obviously knows nothing about style and is a nobody quite frankly.

Tie peeking out from the collar; belly peeking out from the belt ... typical American. lol Dorset, bless.

Not like me. I guess it because I am an African American...
What are you talking about? :D I think you're the one who needs to lighten up my friend.

Hater, straight up. If you look at the rest of your comments it's all hating...lighten up man.
He should focus on the quality of his former iconic magazine instead. Nothing worth seeing in this video.
I don't mind people wearing hats, but I hate those cheap looking "fashion" fedoras...a hard straw skimmer would be much nicer and more elegant.
Lol his sence of style n colour co-ordination is off!!
Not my favorite...
He could stand to lose 20 pounds. His clothes don't fit. He's lumpy.
It's called middle aged, and middle aged men shouldn't seek to look like a teenager.
It's called, eating too much fast food.
If this is his definition of everyday elegant clothes, he probably is colorblind. This dude just wore 4 colors together. And his posture is horrible. Overall: he just looks sad.
Why the T-shirts under dress shirts. Very American and very unsophisticated. A singlet or nothing. Also clown socks and tan shoes.....GMAB
Not impressed
Tom Ford always wears black suits and crisp white shirts . This guy clothes look dreadful a ill fitting jacket and unstructered trousers .
