    Very nice tutorial I have to say. You have the knowledge to teach this basics without getting to much in depth which can scare people off. Major,minor, mixolidian , chord tones, and appergios is more then enough to keep someone who comes from the minor pentatonic scale busy for a long time.

    Fantastic lesson! This is pro level stuff! We are so lucky to have a teacher like you. I learned this using a few different shapes/string sets than what you use, simply because I find them more comfortable for my hand, but the jazz/blues/bebop vibe is all there. You are an invaluable asset for the serious guitar student!

    The importance of learning music here is that you know "why" you are plying a giving note, and what that not is doing "there" in that particular place on the chord. You are not just just memorizing a lick, you are learning it in such a way that it will allow you to create your own licks based on what you learn here. Everything I learned with Sandra I try to put to use right away by using it on Standards and incorporate the lick to my vocabulary. Thank you again, Sandra for making us better musicians.

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  3 роки тому

      Oh, this makes me so happy, because it's exactly what my intentions are. I want to make my students better musicians, using my ideas to create their own stuff. That way you memorize things better, like your own lines better, the fingering feels more comfortable etc. I encourage everyone to use my stufg as a starting point for own ideas.

    I really like tour lessons, very clear and helpul. To present the distinct notes of a lick, may be you could do that in terms of intervalls of the chord (the 3rd, the flat 7, the 5th, ...) instead of their positions on a cord of the neck. Thanks a lot !

    Stumbled on to one of your video's and realized very quickly that I needed to subscribe to you. Like other's have said, your ability to share your knowledge is fantastic! Easy to follow, well layed out and great explanations of the thought behind what you are doing.
    Do you have any advice (video) on how to speed up the cognitive ability to know how to go to the arpeggio notes (1,3,5,7) while playing good sounding lines, without having to "think" too much about where they are on the fretboard?
    Example at the start you emphasized the slide to the 3rd as a very understandable tool. I find that I can jump fairly easily to the 3rd, 5th, 7th but I am limited in my brain processing to do much else but play the note, which would then create a disjointed solo. So at that rate my solo would consist of one note for each chord. Lol
    I have spent many years playing rock and copying other people's solo's or noodling in the blues scale or a minor scale in one key but this jazz stuff is a different animal.
    In this video you quickly are commenting on the different tones of the chord as you play. Are you going more by the sound and 'feel' and analyzing later for us in the video, or is your brain processing that you want to hit or hear the 3rd, 7th etc. while you play and using your years of experience to do it at real time...?
    What is the best way to get past brain processing and playing it more naturally?

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for your great compliment, Dean!
      First off, I know all the chord tone names of any given chord immediately. This helps immensly. I just learned them by heart (not on the guitar, but with old fashioned paper cards) during my years at the conservatory.
      I also know the arpeggios. Take one arpeggio shape and noodle around with it after having memorized where the intervals are (like "here's the 3rd of the chord, here's the b7th etc). Apply some jazzy-bluesy phrasing (play quarter notes, eights and triplets), using solely that one arpeggio. Then move it through the cicle of fourths. Then you do this with as many arpeggio shapes as possible. Next step would be to put enclosures and chromatics around the chord tones. But I really can't tell that in all detail now. You can book a Skype lesson, if you want to, though.
      Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the lesson. Loved the double stop with a hammer-on trick. It sounded great on your guitar.
    I believe I understand what you mean by 'superimposition' , not being a native English speaking I thought it should be 'superposition' ?

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  3 роки тому

      Superimposition is the correct term. To superimpose something means, you overlay something with something else. In music it means you overlay another arpeggio than the root one over a chord. Like in this case a Cmaj7 arpeggio is overlayed over an Am7 chord, which gives it a Am9 sound.

    I have to ask you a suggestion, if I may: I would like to transform Slabo day, by Peter Green, into a jazzy progression. It;s Am, F, G Am. How would you do that, in a way that the original solo still fit ? Thank you very much!

      I'm sorry, I don't know that song. Make those triads tensions (Am9, Fmaj9, G13 or G 8sus4, Am12) etc. You could also use some substitutes, like that V7 chord (G7) could be reokaced by a sub V, the Db9(#11) chord.

      Howard Roberts Fusion. Check out my video, where I showcase my equipment and amp settings advice. Just type "jazz gear Guitarversum" in the YT search box.

    So ALT on a chord chart simply means add an extra note to the written chord. So instead of Eb7th if it says, "Eb7th Alt, I can add a sharp or flat 9th note whichever I feel will work. Is this correct?

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  5 місяців тому

      Yes, that's correct. But you have to know WHEN to alter. I'll have vidro on altered chords coming up in a few weeks, where I explain everything about it plus tons of fresh new altered voicings. Stay tuned 😊

    Sandra---- I enjoy your videos and your playing, but you would sound a lot better if you stopped using those terrible Band In A Box backing tracks. The bass sounds really bad, and often the notes he is playing are dissonant and wrong for your solos and your chords. There are far better backing tracks available. You would sound 100% better if you changed them.

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  3 роки тому

      Hmm, I've never heard really bad clashes against my chords, bc I programm my backing tracks exactly to my chord melody arrangement.
