      That's always the goal. Try to make a little solo over a part of a song to apply these idea right away. We learn best in contexts of songs.

      By applying it to tunes, you memorize it better than through "dry" practice 😉

    Great stuff, Sandra. This could almost be an intro for a complete course in this area. Lick 4 alone is a nice insight for West Coast Blues😁. Good to see Howard😉. Have a great weekend, Sandra!!

      @@GuitarversumSandraSherman I give you the credit for my first bepop lines, which not only my guitar teacher approved but also the ones which I really liked and finally I could feel some excitement among the overall frustration. This Idea of enclosure and pivot arpeggio... Played it through the "Confirmaiton" progression and the lines started to emerge. Of course It's also the sum of all other things which I've practiced, but the breakdown happened after your lesson. Thank you!

    Thank you so much Sandra, this is hugely helpful! I never really understood the pivot arpeggio concept. I've come across it in several other videos by other good teachers but for some reason, it didn't click until following your exercises here. I'll be working on these exercises for a while, there's many days of practice required to get these under my fingers and into my ears.

    Oh you're singing my song, my friend. I can practice an arpeggio until I'm blue in the face. But get me into a jam and I'm a blithering idiot with them.

      Glad to be of help, Abe! Try to compose (parts of) solos where you apply these techniques. This way it'll be in your fingers and real improvisation will eventually come to you.

      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  6 місяців тому

      Of, this will change from now on 😊. Ombre you get used to it and have these fingerings under your fingers you'll play arpeggiis like this most of the time. But it's also absoku3ok to just play 1 3 5 7 once in a while. Add in a nice triplet and your good to go 😊.

    Some people say play a scale tone above and a half tone below, like you, but I also see some say to play a half tone on both ends. Any reason for that? Are both correct?
