    Another great video, i wish I had a better understanding of this complex system, but if you pay attention,there is a lot to learn. Just an update on my rectal cancer journey, growth still receding very fast, very little discharge, had to stop the Capecitabine at 9 days due to toxic overload., took 3 days to feel better. I started taking 900 mg Artemisinin a few days before the overload, The same happened on previous 14 day cycle before adding Artemisinin. Will get blood work tomorrow with vitamin ‘’D’’, see Oncologist on Thursday and will add Fenbendazol tomorrow, still on 16 hr fast and two meals, low carbs.

    Casey, I love the science, complex indeed.. I note that the melatonin dose in these animal experiments are 100s of mg in the human equivalent.. I’ve taken 100mg melatonin with no apparent side effects.. We not talking about the pineal gland and sleep here, it’s the metabolism of multiple trillions of cells in all your organs !
    Hence high dose melatonin may eventually become the medical norm…except for the
    fact it’s a natural supplement and can’t be a ‘medication’..

    i think the most amazing thing is how all these processes somehow came together out of a primordial soup of stuff (inlcuding the state of the atmosphere and sunlight at the time) and evolved the complex biological processes we see in the world today. as for melatonin-all of its functions are simply amazing to me.

    Thank you very much for all the information. I'm making sure I get my sunlight exposer, maybe an IR lamp for winter. I am 63 next month so concerned about my nighttime levels. What I started doing is applying an aloe vera/melatonin mixture I made to my face, shoulders and arms each night. It's about 200mg in the topical aloe lotion. It seems that bypassing the liver as well as transdermal delivery extends the bioavailability and duration. So far so good. I am not treating any known conditions except general aging.

    • @DrCaseyPeavler
      @DrCaseyPeavler  Місяць тому

      Thank you for your feedback and sharing your concerns. Adequate sun/IR exposure and avoidance of artificial light at night should be adequate for most people for general health. However, if you have significant diseases, would do that plus supplemental melatonin in discussion with your integrative/functional doctor.

      @paulhindle3961 Місяць тому +2

      @@DrCaseyPeavler Thank you Dr Peaver. I assume that even if I'm careful to avoid artificial light that as I age I will still be producing less than ideal melatonin? It sounds like melatonin is sufficiently benign that mega dosing at night as a prophylactic strategy to slow aging and avoid disease may be a reasonable risk/reward scenario.

      I personally believe the overall human cellular environment and function trump treatments. Let me expand on this. When I was doing my functional medicine training, there was a Lyme and mold specialist. He talked about how these patients had been to doctor after doctor, received antibiotics or antifungals. They never really got better. However, once he improved the other aspects of health, hormones, mitochondria, gut, etc. The symptoms were not as bothersome and the patients improved without lifelong treatment.
      You cannot get well in the same environment in which you got sick.

      I would advise you to find a doctor who can test your melatonin levels. If you have a light on and it isn't red after sunset, your levels will drop. If you aren't getting significant sun during the day or NIR, your levels will drop. Always error on maximizing endogenous production first in most cases.

I participate in an annual reunion gathering outdoors, camping on a great swimming river in the Oregon cascade range mountains. About fifty great friends attend regularly, spending a great deal of time in sun and water.... and staring into a campfire when fire restrictions are not in effect. Two and a half weeks is a great addition for so many that seem to live indoors for much of their work lives. I feel that these are very intelligent people, yet appear to be so under informed about everything we are talking about here. I get asked if I want any sunscreen or sunglasses, when they notice, but they usually shake their heads when I decline, and move a bit away if I comment about why I don't use them. I think I become a bit of an 'environmental terrorist' suspect. Then, no hope for my credibility when they ask if I've had the latest 'booster' yet! I wonder if a better approach toward educating about all of our points might be more effectively done if we approach by talking about health benefits to our DOGS. I've noticed so much health concern exists for our pets, and people across society seem far more able to listen to any suggestions of health environmental precautions from veterinarians, that knee jerk reactions are reduced enough people listen far better. As months ago I had an epic fail after taking a 5 mg before bedtime and staggering everywhere the following day. I am 5' and 87 lbs (clothes on). BUT I just read the entire warning label, and it said not to take "if lymphoproliferative". Well duh. The cancer spread lymphedema into both arms a couple of months ago (I reduce it by short stints of wild arm swinging), but the swelling is back the next day, so rinse, repeat. Dang. Hoped to add it to the sun baths. Fear I will never achieve the blackout at night stuff. Too busy as co-caregiver for my terminally ill son-in-law, late grocery runs and internet research. Trying to stay alive for my 89th birthday next April 20th (Easter Sunday in 2025). Then maybe even longer. When I lived in India (late '70's) an old wizened psychic told me I would die at 87. Never remembered until well into cancer on my 87th birthday. Yikes. So 88 now but started over a year late on the alternative healing (I hope) path. I take 400 mg every 2 hours from 8am until Bedtime, which I double to 800 mg at midnight. Is is for hormone positive Invasive Ductile Carcinoma. I'm guessing you talk about phase separation somewhere, but i haven't found it, so you may be using different words. I notice you are talking about melatonin, but not how to use it or how much and how often. Is it in a different video, and i just haven't come across it yet?

      I try not to talk about specific recommendations on UA-cam. That would be more appropriate for a doctor/patient relationship.

      I would MAXIMIZE sun exposure from sun up to sunset, even being in shade is ok for the infrared portion although if you can at least get some direct exposure would be more beneficial. Then after sunset, absolutely no artificial light, blue blockers, black out curtains, sleep mask, etc.

    At what concentration does it impart these effects? Most people take 3-5 mg of melatonin, but I suspect that you need to take in excess of 100 mg to have any of these benefits. Sure, to induce sleep you need very low concentration, but for the effects mentioned in the video it may need a totally different concentration in the body

    • @DrCaseyPeavler
      @DrCaseyPeavler  Місяць тому +2

      Fantastic question you raise. 100mg would be crazy supraphysiologic level. Safe but clearly supraphysiologic. These processes happen even with lower melatonin levels than ideal, so would have to assume happens at sub-therapeutic, therapeutic, and supra-physiologic levels on a dose response basis. I have not see a curve or graphic to put this hypothesis into picture format, but I will be on the lookout. I do feel confident in saying you can achieve all of these benefits from endogenous production. The question is how much are you making? Adequate sun? Infrared? Darkness?

    • @newyorkskier
      @newyorkskier Місяць тому +1

      @@DrCaseyPeavler I was purely guessing. I have no data to support what I said. The animal studies seem to indicate higher doses to induce autophagy (taking into consideration the mouse to human dose conversion ratio. But I do admit I have no idea if 100 mg is the right doze. I have tried up to 50 mg and have found no crudely observable side effects, but whether it provides added benefits is a question that we still don't know

    Does it mean that sunlight helps cancer?

    • @DrCaseyPeavler
      @DrCaseyPeavler  Місяць тому +2

      AB-SOLUTELY! Through multiple mechanisms, one of them being melatonin production. Others would include, alpha, beta, gamma MSH which are anti-inflammatory. Melanin which can donate electrons when interacting with light to power redox chemistry. Beta endorphin, met-enkephalin both of which are inflammatory. Vitamin D and its bioactive D3 and L3 metabolites. Plus its role in circadian biology and circadian clock genes.
