You really had a spectacular string of good hiking weather. The views from the overlooks were very beautiful, but I could tell a lot of trees had lost their leaves. Still, what a beautiful time to be hiking or in the woods.
In regards to questions about where you're camping and other related topics, I think I'd be direct and to the point and tell them; "For personal safety reasons, I refuse to answer those kinds of questions." It doesn't have to be done in a rude manner, but be firm about it. I think even as a single guy hiking and people started asking me those kinds of questions I would be hesitant to answer those kinds of questions. You have no idea the type of person you're talking to. With other thru hikers, after a day or so, you get a feel for who you're with and what they're about, but those are sensitive questions with somebody out day hiking or just out in the woods. A person who has hiked a hundred or more miles on the trail is very likely not out there as a predator, for one thing, they wouldn't have an easy means of escape. Not so much the case with day people, they're going to have some means of ready transportation away from the area.
Stay safe out there, Mosey. I want to see many more videos in the future.

Yay for a tiny sliver of NY! That might be some of the CT vibe of almost feeling ill mannered questions from day hikers. Looking forward to seeing NY and NJ from your eyes!

The two questions I HATE when solo backpacking: so where are you camping tonight and are you hiking alone?
Hate it the most when men ask. Ask women most anything about their hikes, but stop asking those two questions please. Understand women live in an entirely different world than you do as a man when alone on trail.
Sincerely, all solo women in nature

My standard answer to the “where are you camping tonight” question is, “wherever I stop.” I know it’s a little different (over 60 Marine/Cop vs 20-something solo female), but I still find it quite a rude question from random people…

Maybe you could answer with the question “Why do you ask?” That might throw them off. I don’t know. Be safe Mosey. 🙏🏻You are almost there!

I remember erlier in Northern CT and Southern MA that Jenny had an encounter with some random guy you freaked her completely out and was later confronted by the cops, so yeah I get the being cagey with your answers and not wanting to tell all and sundry all the nitty gritty details.
Also don't know if you have heard but Soap, Gadget and Rifle are back down in Georgia hiking from NC down to Amicalola Falls and while it hasn't been disclosed yet, I think Bricky might be finishing the final miles it doesn't have. How cool is that?

I’m sorry the people of CT have been so awful! I live here 😩I grew up in VT though and hope to hike the Long Trail next summer but worry about some of the things you’ve mentioned about being a solo woman hiker as my husband really isn’t interested in backpacking 200+ miles

I never reveal where I camp when on trail. Basically for my own personal safety. It bothers me also when people keep pushing the subject.

Oh, hate it when people get too up close and personal- they don’t seem to know that they’re asking for too much information- or. are they up to something ? Makes you wonder!
So many drivers that have no business driving on the roads these days- we need strict regulations- maybe someday but, not holding my breath! ☮️
Well the atmosphere that you are in is one good thing for sure, setting aside the above mentioned, nature is so nice to spend quality time in ❤️🧘🏼🌿☮️🙏

Maybe the CT hikers are aware of the driving hazards in their state and are just concerned you’ll be run over in your campsite ⛺️ 🚗😩

  • @lauraboggs4415
    @lauraboggs4415 2 місяці тому +5

Is it not ok to just say, I appreciate your concern and mean no disrespect but I personally don’t give out that information?? I’m sure most are just concerned about your safety but still.. I mean you’ve already gone over 2000 miles I think you know how to plan for your evenings.. 😂

I suspect most of the day hikers are just locals who want to give you their advice on campsites but you are right not sharing that with them. We have some black squirrels here in Washington, native squirrels called Douglas squirrels that are smaller than the eastern gray squirrels. Congrats on reaching NY 😊

The double edge sword... people being kind and wanting to help, vs the nut job... never trust fate to save you... have MACE or Bear spray on your hip...

Do you feel the same way when a woman asks you this question? Men are supposed to treat women as equals… Except when we’re not…. When I hiked the AT I did see that this question made some women uneasy, (actually I was told by one of my hiking Tramily early on, then noticed it) so instead I would say where I was planning on camping and wait for their response. If they wanted to talk about it, great. If not, that was cool too. I never thought of it as threatening as I had no nefarious intentions. I figured we were all just out here attempting to survive this great adventure. The camaraderie of the trail is one of its greatest gifts so I think it’s a natural question. I get it but it’s just another land mine in male/female interactions. PS- Love your videos. I’ve been watching every morning since the start. I’m so happy you are closing in on the finish! Congratulations!

I've hiked the AT 4 times. I ask where are you stopping ALL THE TIME. I'm happily married. I don't harm people. These are just curious questions. I would hope I'm not labeled just for some small talk.
