A morning hike with Rissa great. The rain at night is always a surprise when it’s not forecast. Yes wet tent carry is messy and never dries when cold out.
That's when you start strapping your tent to the outside of your pack... or stuffing it inside a dry bag so you don't get everything else in your pack wet. I would prefer the former rather than the latter. At least then it can drain a little as you hike provided it's not still raining.
Polling was definitely one of my favorite towns. I did spend the night, though it was on the pricey side. It had a real Mayberry vibe. That was during covid though. That shelter you skipped was a terrible one, but I think it was the snorer I'd been trying to shake that made it so bad.
As somebody who if the sauce were not spiced, I would have been looking for either crushed red pepper or hot sauce, I'm sure I would have liked the sauce too. Generally, anything with a tomato base (including pizza) I will add some spice. A few other things too, like eggs. I'm sure I would have like the sub as well. From what you showed, the trail looked pretty cruisy in that stretch and as somebody who does a lot of local road hiking because of where I live, I think you made the right decision by taking the old trail. Road hiking can be a little unnerving at times either because people won't or can't (due to road/traffic situations) give you much room. Most often people are quite considerate though if they have an option. I camped in the rain last night. I didn't have to, but I was wanting to get used to camping in the rain mostly due to getting used to the sounds of the rain hitting the tent. I have a Lanshan or Lan Shan 2 trekking pole tent and it has held up beautifully in high winds and in rain so far. It's a great relatively low-cost UL tent, but takes a little space to stake out. It looks like you're having a great time out there, keep it up Mosey!
I think I missed the New York sign? But congratulations on another state down! Enjoy deli blazing and thankful for rain, now that you’ve crossed the brook.😊❤
I continue to enjoy your hike, I am 4 months from my start, sure cant wait. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Hooray for the start of deli blazing! I made a special trip to hug that Dover Oak!! It’s amazing!
