Global Okanagan - May 17, 2024 - Okanagan at Level 2 drought, very dry

  • Concerns are growing over drought conditions across the Okanagan. The region is now at a level 2 drought rating which means very dry and the outlook for the coming months is not promising. Residents are urged to do their part to prepare for what's shaping up to be an extremely dry summer season.
    "An example of how dry it is and how quickly the snow has melted and how little there was is the Brenda Mines site, where we have snow measurement data going back 28 years, and this year it was snow free the earliest on that record," said Sandra Shira, Water Science Specialist at the Okanagan Basin Water Board.
