  • "We have already started (fall) in a deficit and have less than where we need to be. We need to see snowpack and a nice slow melt," says OBWB Communications Director Corinne Jackson.
    Residents are being encouraged to continue to conserve and think forward to the coming spring and summer, and ways to use less water.
    The Province of B.C. declared the Okanagan in Level 2 drought in June. But as the region continued to experience low precipitation levels and water demands continued through the summer, the area ended up in Level 5 drought - the highest rating possible, indicating adverse impacts to socio-economic or ecosystem values was certain. The valley's drought level dropped back to Level 2 in late September, but some South Okanagan streams remained at Level 5, recognizing that there was not enough water for fish returning to spawn.
