Happy New Year everyone. I'm here on Ko Lipe tonight, going to party like it's 2099. Actually I'll probably just drink some wine, have dinner, edit a video and watch the fireworks later. If you want a taste of New Year's eve craziness in Thailand, here's one of my videos on Ko Samui nine years ago: ua-cam.com/video/k3sf2xyni48/v-deo.html Have an amazing 2023 filled with adventure. Cheers. 🍺😎✌
Watching this after being laid up in bed since Xmas eve with the flu, in cold, rainy England. Very jealous but happy for you. Happy New Year Gabe and followers 🎉
Happy to see you back in Thailand 🇹🇭 again! Ko phi phi is also one of my favourite places in Thailand and it is very popular but that’s for a good reason because it’s absolutely beautiful and with the new and revamped Maya Bay close by it’s a winner. I had no idea you could catch a boat from Malaysia to Thailand. I’ll put that on my to do list. Bring on the next video 😊
I recommend Koh Mook next. It is also walking island but with less tourism than Koh Lipe. It is good for 2-3 days. Then my all time favorite which is Koh Lanta
Great little island, my wife and I just returned from Thailand and loved Koh Lipe. Hopefully the weather is a bit better at the moment. Have a great new year's eve!!
Was there in Lipe back in late 80's. Spend a few days staying with the Gypsies (Urak Lawoi) and exploring the island. Such a magical and spiritual place to be... back then. Awesome experience 🙂
Thanks Gabe, you've inspired me to replicate this exact trip by boat as I've never been to Langkawi or Ko Lipe and it seems like the best way to do both at once.
When I was staying in Langkawi for 1 week back in Jan 2017, I actually did a day trip to Koh Lipe from Telaga Harbour and spent around 6 hours before heading back to Langkawi. However, in Feb 2018 I did stay for 3 nights in Koh Lipe on my 3rd Thailand trip after staying in Krabi (Ao Nang) for 5 nights, then Koh Yao Noi for 1 night, then Koh Phi Phi for 3 nights, then Koh Lanta for 1 night before finally staying in Koh Lipe for the 3 nights
Happy New Year Gabe, I stayed at The Zodiac 2 months ago, absolutely loved Ko Lipe except for the rough boat ride there in bad weather, I think I was the only passenger that threw up lol, Great island!!
Happy New Year! When I traveled from in 80s Bangkok to Burma(i filled it with bags with booze and gave it away at the airport 2 taxi drivers). Never paid for a tour and stayed at the Strand Hotel. So much fun, probably thought we were the cargo cult from America. Enjoy! 🌊
Hey Gabriel, welcome back to Thailand. I wasn't sure if you were gonna make it to Thailand this trip or not. If there is any way you are going to be in Bangkok and can meet up I would love to buy you lunch or dinner. You are definitely coming at the right time because the weather has been great. Hope to hear from you soon my friend.
Howdy Gabe,Happy New Year and many thanks for the superb videos which you shared with us again in the past year and which i thoroughly enjoyed watching as usual when coming from you,(especially those about your travels in Greece,a country which happens to be my favourite holiday destination as well).Best wishes and cordial greetings from William in Bruges,Belgium,Europe
Been there, done that. Took the ferry to Koh Lipe. That ferry from Koh Lipe to the mainland is the worst rollercoaster on the planet. Good look with that fun trip! LOL!
Can you make a video about problems you had while traveling? Walk & talk? Medical or a sickness issue while traveling? Do you buy medical insurance? Or pay cash if something happens?
Thank you Gabriel for a wonderful series of videos during 2022. I especially liked your India videos as you showed us so many places that few see. Enjoy your Thailand break... Laos and Cambodia off the beaten track would be great to see perhaps
Gabe - How often do you go back to old videos and look at and even respond to comments? On occasion I have seen comments from you years after a video. With the volume of your output it must be hard to go back to something from years before. Happy New Year. Steve
The comments all come in on one page chronologically, so comments posted recently on an old video will show up with the comments on new videos. And sometimes I'm on an old video for some random reason and go through the comments.
Any particular reason why you did not take the boat from Telega Harbour Marina, Langkawi to Koh Lipe? At least it is a shorter boat trip as well as a shorter taxi drive from Pantai Cenang to the harbour, instead of going to the yeti in Kuah
I actually explained that when I was filming, then cut it out of the video during editing because it seemed a bit irrelevant. Basically it was because I was curious to see Kuah and the Eagle Square, and also there were more restaurants to choose from around there.
Maybe I missed Gabe purchasing it but I didn't see if the ticketing process was pretty straight forward getting to Ko Lipe? Looks like a big ferry then onto a smaller taxi boat.
I bought the ticket from a ticket office a couple days earlier for 160 Malaysian ringgit which is $36 USD. And yes a 90 minute ferry ride to the island and then small boat ride from the boat to the beach, because there's no pier for the larger boat to dock at.
They are saying Thailand will become the weed capital of the world soon... Happy New Years ! The music is perfectly balanced it comes in outside of narration and lifts the video moments up more.
looks good bro, currently in thailand, thinking to do this crossing the other way across to malaysia. :) then maybe back to renew my thai visa. how much was the thai visa?
Now you get 45 days of free staying in Thailand and yes arriving by boat or car is the same as by air as long as you cross in or out the border it is the same
13:06 My tour guide in Krabi informed me that the majority of locals you see in Southern Thailand are originally from Malaysia which is why it’s predominantly Muslim.
Not really, it's actually divided by modern borders. Southern Thai and northern Malay were one nation called Langkasuka in the olden days and they still travers today visiting relatives cross border without the need for passports

Happy New year Gabe, health wealth and happiness for you in 2023! 🥳😃✌️
Now we're taking it back to the essence of Gabriel Traveler vlogs - southeast Asian adventure vlogs.
Thailand is another paradise, the ultimate life style, ocean 🌊jungle 🌳 breathtaking views and barefooted, an everyday joy 😊

you rightly said it: there's nowhere like Thailand 💘 and Koh Lipe looks just like a spectacular place on planet Earth. Hopefully see you around! ✌️
That sunset with the lights all around you was absolutely incredible!
Nobody on UA-cam has ever ordered a milk at Starbucks, Gabe is blazing new trails . That island looks awesome
Somebody's gotta do it, there's a first time for everything, it does a body good and various other cliches.
This Island looks amazing!

For sure, it's a much longer boat ride from elsewhere in Thailand.
Beautiful footage again I hope to see more in 2023. Thanks for your wonderful episodes in 2022. Happy New year 🎇 in advance.

Langkawi is duty free. Cheapest booze in all of Asia. Hope you got a few bottles and a case of beer for Thailand
Pangkor too. I think some areas in tioman island as well
Eagle Square looks like it has really impressive encaustic tile features, top quality stuff!

Every Year same Happy New Year Gabriel 🍾 2023
Good afternoon! Not Greece, but nice. As always your videos are great!
thailand has 1000 plus(ISLANDS)most beaches better than any beach in greece..that's why they get far more tourist than greece..
I think he used to use world nomads travel insurance I
You can take the ferry to some quieter special Islands from Lipe. Trang Islands and many other less known ones on the way up to Koh Lanta/ Railay
Happy new year ✨🤍
Happy New Year to Gabriel and all of his followers! 🎊
Welcome back to Thailand
Thanks, it's great to be back.
Happy new year
You’re brave staying in a hostel! Once I hit 40, I have to have my privacy and peace and quiet when I’m traveling.
I don't stay in hostels very often anymore, but when I checked booking.com there were no private rooms available for New Year's.
Happy new year 😊
Have a happy and healthy new year🍾 Thanks for sharing your travel adventures with us, definitely excited for some travel in 2023!
Nice to see you use hostels every once in awhile these days those of us that still need them like to look around them

NOT chocolates.. a few minutes later.. cheese cake 😁 , happy new year gabe, safe travels!
Touché. 😛
Most of thailand's top islands are near langkawi eg phuket, phi phi, koh lipe,.
While going through customs, did they checked any documents other than passport?
Nope, no proof of vaccination, Covid test, onward flight or anything else required.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos That's great.
Hi Gabriel, Do you remember the name of this last restaurant? Thanks!
Are you considering Ko Pu(Koh Jum)? Looks like another small less known island
I'll look into it.
Hey Gabe. Where in Thailand are you now?
I’m staying around Asoke in Bangkok
Ko Lipe.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos hope you an awesome holiday there
It would be cool if you Film another conversation between you and Victor
Looks a bit overrun by tourists, not quite the paradise I imagined. Maybe there are some secluded beaches on the other side of the island.
🎉🎉🎉🎆🎆🎆Happy New Year
Good
I was hoping you would stay in Malaysia longer, very few cover that island, whereas Thailand is saturated with UA-camrs.
Any particular reason why you did not take the boat from Telega Harbour Marina, Langkawi to Koh Lipe? At least it is a shorter boat trip as well as a shorter taxi drive from Pantai Cenang to the harbour, instead of going to the yeti in Kuah

Is there no immigration control between Langkawi and Ko Lipe?
There was customs leaving Malaysia on Langkawi and again on Ko Lipe when we arrived.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Thanx

It is already the weed capital of the world I did enjoy it freely this time compare to when it was illegal before June 2022 😂
Hey!
I wonder if you have any insurance in case you get seriously ill or have an accident.
🤗🇸🇪
Happy New Year🎉
Yes, I use World Nomads.
looks good bro, currently in thailand, thinking to do this crossing the other way across to malaysia. :) then maybe back to renew my thai visa. how much was the thai visa?
No charge for the Thai visa. It isn't technically a visa but a visa waiver.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos ah ok, same as flying in then, thought there'd be a stamping fee or something. welcome to thailand :)
my best bro looking handsome thank you for your huge respect against cpec friendship countries lot of love from your best bro viki 💙
For the yanks: Two corns of snow, a blizard. Two trees.... a jungle. Still a good journey.
Are you guna stay in Thailand for a while?
Next time when you visit Swiss pls infom me.😊
7:14 Jetty Point Duty Free. Is alcohol allowed in Malaysia?
Is it just me or is Gabrielle living large nowadays compared to a few years ago?
What do you guys think about the music whilst he’s taking?
How long is your Thai visa? 15 or 30 days? Is arriving by boat the same as by air?
Now you get 45 days of free staying in Thailand and yes arriving by boat or car is the same as by air as long as you cross in or out the border it is the same
16:06 Pattaya beach? 🤔
😊
Was the passport check on the boat, or on the island?
Leaving Langkawi and then on Ko Lipe after arriving.
$23 a night for a hostel seems like a ripoff. I stayed in a big, clean, modern room at the IBIS in Bangkok 2 months ago for $30.
I agree. Probably New Year's prices, plus the double bed.
13:06 My tour guide in Krabi informed me that the majority of locals you see in Southern Thailand are originally from Malaysia which is why it’s predominantly Muslim.
That makes sense.
Not really, it's actually divided by modern borders. Southern Thai and northern Malay were one nation called Langkasuka in the olden days and they still travers today visiting relatives cross border without the need for passports
How would you know it’s jungle vs a regular forest
Solid question.
Ferries from Langkawi would be looked on as low risk, not much methamphetamine going that way.
Does Thailand charge tourist tax for entry now?
Nope, no charge.
