The first time i entered Thailand ever was around Jan .2002 coming from Langkawi to Satun on the Thai mainland . I instantly felt at home ,and that has lasted ever since .I sensed your relief at getting back to Thailand also .

Did the same trip back in 2010 there was about 10 of us on the ferry so immigration was pretty swift top island with great diving returned in 2019 for 3 weeks love ko lipe my favourite island in Thailand
Thanks mate. The last time we were on Langkawi we flew back to KL and then up to Thailand. This is a much better option ... Ko Lupe looks good so far ...

Yes 45 day visa extension, back to back visa run to Cambodia at Ban Pakkad. Just did it 2 days ago.

Yes the 1 hour speedboat ride from Telaga Harbour close to the cable car was the one I did as a day trip to Koh Lipe. I think you went from the other side at Kuah Jetty I guess which will take longer. I have been to Malaysia 5 times and Thailand 4 times - both amazing counties for different reasons. I would say that Thailand is cheaper overall than Malaysia. I'm teetotal and not into pubs and clubs but Thailand has so much to offer with culture, landscapes, food and beaches. However, I absolutely love Malaysia. Maybe you need to visit Indonesia as well because there are some great things to see and do there

You can only do the overland thing two times. There are no such restrictions when doing it through an international airport.

The boat ride seemed a little expensive for 1.5 hours but I assume both Malaysia and Thailand were taking there cut.

Did that very same trip with the biggest hangover of my life. Found the only place in Langkawi that had anything like an atmosphere and had at it. Langkawi is like your granny’s old cardigan. Beige and baggy.
Good morning from the northern suburbs of Tokyo Ed! Spent two fun nights in Bangkok on the way here. Fantastic meal in an Izakaya (Japanese pub/restaurant) last night including sashimi and deep fried fugu (blowfish!), plus ice cold Asahi beer with yakitori followed by warm sake etc! Truly one of lifes pleasures eating in east and south east Asia! After a few more days in Japan I'll stop in Pattaya 2nights and another night in Bangkok. Wish I had at least a month each in these two great countries!

Is there a money exchange on shore before immigration? or did you get the baht in Malaysia first ? To pay the entrance , Also are you at the Telaga or Kuah jetty? cheers

Cheap beer Don't you just love when you arrive what a shambles . We took speedboat to the Mainland then mimibus to AoNang 5 hours in total.. welcome back to Thailand Eddie, two more years before i can do an extended trip like this one, i lived on the island of Penang as a child in the sixties for 2 1/2 years (father was posted there for bomb disposal) and i'm sure this is where my love of S.E. Asia comes from. had a few weeks in Pattaya over Christmas but back in the land of frowns now☹☹☹

Malaysia is great for travellers. You didn't really do anything in 3 weeks. Nature reserves, orangutans, ipoh, Kuching, Kinabalu, bat caves, train travel, jungle route, the Highlands, popping into Singapore, seeing the East coast etc etc. Seriously, KL, Penang and Langkawi for a week each isn't seeing Malaysia!

Totally agree with your impressions re Malaysia Ed. The most enjoyable time I spend there was at Juara beach Tioman Island. Much better than Langkawi IMO. I'd be super stressed with that crossing to Ko Lipe. Don't like the idea of handing over my passport for so long. The whole process looked really half arsed. No one in Malaysia knew you could get a 45 day visa into Thailand. Really! Imagine what it would be like arriving at Ko Lipe beach during a rain storm. You handled it really well. I'm sure those beers went down extremely well.

Why don't you slow down a bit and spend less time travelling and more time in each location.

It's a Visa exemption, not a Visa.
The 200 bht fee is because it’s classed as a National Park I believe

I never pay that fee, i just walk off down the beach and walk up another walkway, like phi phi island getting money off you, the pier you arrive on has been run down and falling apart for 10 years, all that money goes into there pockets not helping the island
