      Imo the 25 is fine. The 22 lacks power. PA claims 49 Fpe with 25 grain pellets. Most i could muster up was 40 FPE. Up and down the reg and HS settings. I even installed a HD spring, i did get it up to about 43 but the spring was too much for the valve and it wasted air. I can shoot the 25 cal 25 grain pellets at 2200 reg and 4.5 on HS at 43 fpe. 29 grain about the same. Haven’t even tried going up because tuned almost perfectly and still get about 40 shots with the tube.
      Only difference besides the caliber obviously.. the barrel port is larger in the 25. Going to open the 22 port to match the 25’s and see if that makes a difference. Eventually i want to use the HD spring, switch to the bottle and add the extended plenum. Ive seen close to 100 FPE out the avenger/X with these mods.

      Alien Airguns has a HD spring on ebay. It really needs supporting mods to be able to use it though.
      Only issue i had with the stock spring i broke 2 of them. Other than that there’s nothing wrong with it. Adding washers like he did is the same as adjusting it. Both preload the spring when cocked.
      I wanted to be wrong but i tried it out myself. I was setup with the 22, HS 3, had the JTS 21’s at about 880. Backed it all the way out and installed a 1/8 thick washer. Was now getting about 870 with the washer, 0 on the HS. So whether i had the washer at 0 or no washer +3 = similar outcome. The AVx has about 8.5 turns on the HS. A washer would let you compress it more than the 8.5. If thats what you wanted to do. Fwiw i had mine at 7.5 and it shattered after about 2 mags haha.

    OK, so what spring is correct for the .25 AvengeX? Length? Wire diameter? Number of coils? I have two Avengers, a .177 and a .22. My .22 had issues and Air Venturi exchanged it right away. My .177 has a problem that I didn't notice right away. It's regulator refills slowly, very slowly. You and others have referred to it as creep, but I believe it is an unusually slow refill rate. I don't know why it's doing this. Is there a partially obstructed passageway? Is the air breathe hole in the regulator too small? Steve Shalley and others are able to tune their Avengers to 1800psi and less. Mine refills slowly at those pressures. It refills properly up around 2600psi. That is noisy and wastes air. (Am I doing something wrong?) The people at PyramydAir and Air Venturi have been very good, very helpful. I didn't notice this problem early on and I've been ill. I hope you say hello, James. I'm one of the people who have tried to earn from your videos. Thank you. R, Steve

      @@ALLABOUTAIRGUNS Your description of an airgun being a pneumatic system is a different perspective. I'm going to watch your videos again with that concept in mind. Right now this conversation has been about PCP guns. So, with springers you'd have to make adjustments to the pneumatic system by changing the pellet weight? ...the resistance in the barrel to the air impulse? ..or change the spring? With a multi pump like a Crosman 760, Daisy 880, Benjamin 392, adjust the number of pumps to get the best pressure for the specific pellet being used (resistance being created)? That means that just because a multi pump can achieve a maximum velocity of X doesn't mean that it will perform, be accurate, at that max pressure, right? We certainly expect them to be accurate at all the different velocities possible throughout the range. I'm learning. Thank you, James. R, Steve.

    • @johnschmitt571
      @johnschmitt571 4 місяці тому

      @@steveinla8963 Tuning is to get the most consistent pellet placement, at a set distance, for a specific pellet.
      The highest velocity setting is rarely accurate for any airgun. [or firearm].
      Most very high accuracy rifles are set - limited to lower velocities, so each shot can be as identical as possible.
      If adjustable for regulated pressure & valve spring (longer or shorter valve open time = volume of propellant air through valve ea. shot). Each pellet style & weight will have a "sweet spot", where the pellet consistently exits the barrel @ same velocity + Flys the same arc -> without wobbling, so each pellet hits very close to the same spot - at the same distance from the point of aim.
      Too high pressure-velocity-acceleration-air volume ... & pellet deforms, exits barrel, spins/wobbles - inconsistently.
      Too low & barrel vibration, flight path is likely inconsistent.
      PCP can be tuned (generally) to use specific desired pellets (hunt or paper). Always best to hit exact point of aim every shot = well tuned.
      How close you're able to match each trigger pull & point of aim is typically a significantly larger factor in the spread of pellets than a decent airgun should produce.
      For a pump, spring, or gas piston; different pellets (shape, weight) will produce more or less spread around the point of aim from different airguns. Tuning is testing & selecting a good pellet shape & weight to match the propulsion & barrel characteristics.
      Barrels do change over time too = clean?, lube?, wear? + seal leakage, spring fatigue, ...
      For me, 1/16th inch of spread is slightly smaller than my point of aim consistency, so using a good pellet for each purpose is more important than micro-tuning. But that's just me.
      For competitive shooting, rather than plinking or hunting - being finely tuned puts all the variation on the shooter!

    • @johnschmitt571
      @johnschmitt571 4 місяці тому

      Sounds like a dirty / wet air issue. Regulated air chamber refill time and consistency should be essentially instant & identical within a range of fill cylinder pressures sufficiently higher than the regulated pressure.
      Could be other factors creating a large loss of regulated air with each shot - but that should be fairly obvious ( OH Chit! the rifle hates me reaction).
      Depending on skills & knowledge = degass - back blow - cleaning -> & FILTERED DRY air recharge might do wonders ...

    • @Jeeper1378
      @Jeeper1378 3 місяці тому

      I had the same issue with the first reg. Replaced with a new one and its fine.
      Also can get the new one down to 1500.. original 1900. Imo the AVx like to be run around 2200, 2400 max. Higher just wastes air and is loud.

    You titled this the truth about air Venturi avenger an avenge X. It should've be more like "The truth about my fragile ego and how people have been secretly hurting my feelings". You don't need to act like a gift to the air gun communing. I've watched a number of your videos and I like them but I watch a ton of videos. Maybe you have some doubt from some people because for instance you asked about a zero stop on a windage knob or you "did it by the book using the avenge X" yet you left the transfer port in the middle of H & L until I asked you about it. I phrased it in the form of a question because I already knew if I pointed it out directly youwere incorrect you wouldn't like it. I'm no engineer butI actually read the book.. nobody's perfect we all make mistakes. I think it's the way you present things that creates conflict. I don't see nearly the arguments in anybody else's comment section. I had to stop watching at 10 minutes and 39 seconds because you patted yourself enough on the back. I'm sure you'll get a decent amount of views due to the clickbait title though so no need for me to watch the rest. I'm sure you're much smarter then me but the self-esteem thing definitely needs work. Even got upset with the gentleman that element optics because he didn't recognize you and your All-Star shooting prowess. Albeit you did present facts that seemed like you couldn't zero the scope with it all the way to the right maxed out maxed out in elevation and then asking about a zero stop on the windage... If someone came to you with that same scenario you would assume it was the first time they picked up an air rifle and scope also. I think your presentation just rubs some people the wrong way. Seems to be a big gap in the market for a perfect air gun under $500 bucks maybe you should grab that market share and put a stranglehold on it with a custom high power PCP. I'd be interested for sure. I'm only 4 months into this PCP world information you feel better I don't trust you fully nor do I trust everything you say just because you put it on UA-cam. I did notice Steve got different results pushing the hammer spring past two and a half turns at higher reg pressure (so he says) but as you say he's in a different climate and maybe elevation. As a watcher of UA-cam you have two guys saying they are telling the truth and getting different results how are we supposed to accurately tell who is actually telling the truth, or maybe you both are with different experiences because you have different rifles and live in different areas. People are bringing up Steve's videos because it is slightly different from yours an comparison was inevitable. I don't make videos so my experience as a viewer had to be typed out and lengthy. Maybe I didn't say anything worth reading so if that's the case I apologize.

      Buddy first off there's a big difference between me and you, I've been precision shooting airguns/firearms over 25 years mainly break barrels , 2017 I got into PCPs and kept note of everything I've done since then starting off with Beeman Chief $200 PCP one hole groups 22cal pellets at 50yd on several videos then moved on to UX Gauntlet and so on then I was a fully sponsored shooter and it wasnt working out cause THEY wanted me to sell the gun as MOST of the airgun channels do nowa days and I said I cant do that and not be able to share a truthful honest review and asked to have my Calculations on twist rates and I said no, ...secondly bringing up Element Optics has no revelancy here but I'll explain, I don't hold for windage whether you do or not that's your business....and so what why I asked why it didn't have a stop on it ,so you don't crank it too far getting a black shadow outline?? Stop is a stop no matter where its at, and I didn't shoot it with it cranked fully to one side right or left, then they wanted blame the Avenger, my gun for their mishap of NOT warning buyers before hand about you may need to have an MOA rail/scope tilt, and nowhere in product description on any web page says that UNTIL you read the manual after you bought the scope ...which isn't right but you want to blame me? Yea right dude come on AND forgot the part where I told Shane and Matt Dubber thanks and no feelings ....then you want to bring up my Avenge X ? Didn't I tell you like 2x I left it there out of the box so I can see how it shoots and experience it how a NEW shooter comes to the market , you say now wanted to point that out
      so bad how wrong I was , dude get out of here...and yes my shooting is on par ? Since you mentioned it, I mean the Avenge X untuned out of the box I shot WAY better than MOST people who like to mess with me so yea I take pride in my shooting....especially when it comes to hunting and taking a life ....so yea you're definitely coming at me all wrong, hope this settles it up for you the cause the airgun industry is a setup and you'd be OK with airgun companies offer the wrong parts to supposedly fix your problem but it brakes your gun ??? Man you're killn me here....I wanna make a blind joke but I'm not going to do that ...I just can't believe how it's not so obvious to you...but of course it's my fault

      @@ALLABOUTAIRGUNSyou're right we definitely are not the same and I don't think that I said we were. I said we all make mistakes. You asked for zero stop on the element optic scope not a stop to stop it from bringing it too far to the edge. You wanted an exact stop like on the elevation turret. Whether you hold for wind or not I mean cool whatever bro physics doesn't apply to you, awesome. I don't hold for wind at 25 yards. I've never said you were a bad shooter ever so again your ego is getting mixed in with your whole reply. Cool you make some good shots on video although in reality nobody really has proof that you didn't video for 5 hours and cut out 4 hours and 53 minutes of attempts (trust issues on my part, I know ) whether it was your first shot or your 530 I never even cared nor tried to take it away from you. I'm coming at you as a viewer looking from the comfort of my own home. Just an opinion that's all. You stated you did it by the X weather the factory had the settings in the middle of H & L or you did has no bearing on the fact that you shooting it there was wrong. It seems even the simplest of things you have a hard time accepting you did it wrong. It's not a big deal.. if you would have read the book before shooting the rifle you would have known this. I'm sure with your amazing engineering background and 25 years of precision shooting you thought to yourself there's nothing in that book that could teach me anything. Maybe I'm wrong. Again just an opinion from a totally unbiased viewer. Make all the jokes. What's the joke about I'm blind? I overpaid for a plstic piece of 3d printed Barrel band with only three screws? Or who knows maybe one of the other 8 billion mistakes I've made in my life so feel free if it's going to help you sleep tonight or make you feel better. I said nothing mean I am just giving my opinion on how you're coming across to me. Like an Egotistical know-it-all. Where do you have a ton of experience or not whether you're a top-of-the-line shooter or not whether you're an engineer none of it has been denied by me I'm letting you know how your attitude comes across on screen in my opinion. You have a hard time dealing with being wrong about anything ever. I'm not hating at all I wish you all the success. I just know you would be so much happier with a high end gun you can still keep your avenger buddy.

Returned gun and got a refund. I have a hatsan flash qe in 177. 7 turns in on hs,any weight pellet is a straight shot at 50 yards. No drop whatsoever. Let's not forget, he's not just an engineer; he's a seasoned professional who truly understands his craft. In fact, he confidently asserts that his expertise surpasses even those who manufacture the rifles. Despite his rugged appearance, resembling someone who could use a shave and a haircut, there's more than meets the eye. His mastery with firearms is evident, and while some may notice a hint of rust on the screws, rest assured, this engineer is well aware that a bit of patina on a PCP air rifle poses no safety concerns

After me making the effort over and over for a while I just withdrew from showing up at all. Looks like something similar is happening to you. It's a little different because you seem to be dealing with frustrating keyboard warriors. Just drop them from your view.
    On youtube you have the option to block those who are pests. When those are blocked you're left with the people who take your information and use it for their benefit.
    I made a bad (no name calling) pellet gun purchase and I'm now trying to get headed in the right direction. My requirements are not very stringent. I just need good enough accuracy with a .22 pellet rifle to hit a dime diameter dot consistently at about 60 yards. I've now learned I need a 1st focal plane scope and maybe need a MIL dot reticle.
    If I can achieve that without buying a PCP that's my preference. If I must get a PCP that's what I'll do.

    All this from a guy who claims there are different kinds of air that causes POI shift. POI shift is a function of PSI, not "Different types of air.". You are so full of it, and full of yourself.

    • @ansonia2006
      @ansonia2006 6 місяців тому

      You can read any other different form from air gun manufacturers hot versus cold air is definitely a factor and POI shift even if it's just shifting from up and down colder temperature will definitely slow down your pellet. Therefore changing its impact spot AKA POI shift

    • @dr.frankenphoon6254
      @dr.frankenphoon6254 6 місяців тому +6

      Yes, the PSI will change with the temperature , not arguing that, but that was not my point. James claimed (in another video) that mixing different air sources or air of different temperatures together would cause POI shift. It all mixes in the air chamber within seconds and becomes one temperature, one PSI, which is indicated on the gauge. Again, hot or cold, hand pump or compressor, PSI is the bottom line, not where the air comes from. James claims to be an engineer, but if he were he would know this.@@ansonia2006

    • @peteralexben
      @peteralexben 6 місяців тому

      a pcp gun depend on the air temp in the tank and the atmosfer , cold air is thicker dont flow as fast or has lesser pressure in the gun , high air pressure(outside) is slowing the projectile also down. and all that gives POI changes

    • @dr.frankenphoon6254
      @dr.frankenphoon6254 6 місяців тому +1

      Again! I'm not arguing that temp changes the PSI in any vessel. This is a known fact. James tried to make the argument that air from different sources (compressor, hand pump, air bottle) would cause a shift in POI because there are different air sources. Any air in any vessel will mix immediately and become one temp and the PSI will stabilize. Changes in PSI is what causes POI to shift, NOT where the air came from. James has some good info most of the time, but sometimes he is way off and tries to push some BS on us. I'm calling out the BS.@@peteralexben

    so i keep listening to your videos. i do not know why.
    you piss me off when you say the things you say.
    and yeah i understand you are an engineer that works with the things airguns are made of.
    i am a structural engineer. so the eff what.
    thpeople that build these avengers and avenge-x are doing it for money.if you really do not like it then build a better one that cost the same and really prove that air venturi is ripping people off. do it for the same price and make it better. smiles doubt you have the ability friend. but you are so smart, . well it is like this, i have been completely blind for the last dozen years, and i tune my avenger by sound and feel alone. and i can tell you , on the avenger the hammerspring has a spot on every turn where it works a bit better than the whole rest of the turn. and on my avenger it is 1/8th of a turn so at 1and 1/8th it is quieter which means it is working less so thus working better, at 2 and an 8th it does the same and so on and so on. but it depends on what you are trying to acomplish as to which turn you go to and where on that turn you leave the hammerspring. personally i like a regulator setting of about 2680-2685 psi it is optimum for me using a compresser. but not so easy to use a hand pump. and this means i have to put the hammerspring at turn 5 but not 5 . 5 and 1/8th gives me quieter response than 5 and 3/4ths which is what steve says to do , but i get the same energy 58fpe with 5 and 1/8th turn as with 5 and 34ths turn but the avenger is quieter because my avenger has some imperfection at that 8th of every turn where it just works better there.
    so instead of just using the manual try knowing your avenger because i am sure they are all different.
    find that place on each turn where the hammerspring works better because that is probably where the coil of the spring begins so that would be where the tension should begin from is that not correct mr engineer?
    these things all matter and i am blind and know this.
    of course i try to be humble also, even though my I Q averages 163. with a block theory of 219 and a mathmatics of 179 with the rest being lower the average is 163. so i am not shabby myself.
    i build bridges blind stabilizing structural loads at speed with multiple vehicles use . so yeah i get it, an engineer is some one to listen to.
    but take tim e to notice the small stuff too.
    now i have not bought an avenge x at all because i was listening to the avengex videos and something seemed off to me.
    i like .25cal and not .22 cal in the avenger platform. in .22 i choose the AEA challenger longstock platform . it gives 63fpe with a 40gr hollowpoint slug
    (it dont like pellets)
    and you do not need to adjust the power wheel at all. just shoot it and at a 3600psi fill it gives 24-30 shots at that energy. if you want to get different results it does not come with a reg but you can get a reg kit for it, but it is an internal reg and it is not needed, just change the lead weight and or the fill pressure cause it can take 4500psi but it likes 3600psi so changing the pressure will net different results. thus different accuracy. and using a heavier weight slug will give you better accuracy.
    the 40 gr hnn hollowpoints i use bring the velocity to between 912 and 921 usually. which is alot for such a heavy slug out of a .22cal(.217 dia...
    well i wont gripe anymore, just please find some humility in yourself because god does not like a pompus azz of a man he tends to make people like that fall on their faces.
    so at least try to be humble please. and thank you. cannot wait to listen to your future videos without the pride. smiles, and yeah we know you are intelligent, SO, smiles giggles and wink. take care and be blessed.
