Each caliber has its benefits , I like them all but find the .22 has the most manufacturer following and variation in diameter & grain in both Diabolo and slug design . I would have to say in most cases the .22 is my pellet of choice for small game . For bigger game , FPE , distance and larger caliber , shot placement plays a big roll in what you are hunting .
If eliminating small pests and target shooting is your deal. The .22 is king. Shot count associated with plinking and target shooting ,(only, )says.177. Whacking larger problem animals or hunting, with mercy and authority, the .25 is awesome. I have a friend busting groundhogs regularly with a Hatsan Flash .25 at sixty yards. It’s amazing what those bigger soft lead pellets can deliver at that range. The math says they only carry the energy of a .22 short gallery round at the muzzle, but the terminal ballistic result of the pellet impact is more devastating compared to the .22 gallery ball. They don’t run . They drop dead. I have a Beeman Chief 2 Synthetic 1336 in .22 with a 3000 psi tube. I just tried a Umarex Gauntlet magazine in it and it works perfectly. James has discovered that the .22 caliber Gauntlet , Avenger and Origin’s magazines are interchangeable. With the addition of the 1336 to that club, this kind of magazine and pellet availability makes .22 a good first choice. It was a precise fit .Not forced. It worked really well. It may have even fed better. Do yourself a favor and get all three calibers. You know you want too. Start with the double deuce.

The Avenger 25 cal is my first PCP after owning some break barrels. And man, talk about night and day. But I absolutely love this gun as it hits real hard. I had a problem getting decent pellets for it at first, but now I got a pretty big supply built up. Thank James...I really enjoyed this video. I often wonder what the other calibers are like and if I made the right decision, and at this point I have no regrets.
I have .177 & .22 now which I use for pest control on my channel. The .177 is great for squirrels, sparrows and starlings with inexpensive pellets and high shot counts. The .22 is better for taking down larger pests like dove, & rabbit. I would say .25 for humane dispatch of bigger pigeons or prairie dogs unless you max it out & shoot soft hollow slugs, but then you loose shot count & could have other issues down range in the case of a miss. You’re fortunate to have all 3! 👍👍

My 177cal is shooting 32 plus ft pounds using JSB 16.2 gr Beast pellets. This is with HST maximum. 180bar reg. Pressure. I didn't try 200bar. It's accurate at this power. Nielsen 12.5gr slugs will shoot 1,005 fps at this power set up. But we're most accurate turning the HST all the way down. Then one turn back. 880fps. They hit inside half a dime at 25yards. I do experience reg creep if the rifle sets for 5 min. So Iam playing around with different fill pressures. Thanks brother. I'll stay in touch. 👍

So I just can't make a decision. Would you get the Benjamin Marauder refurbished for 350 with the Wood stock in 22 caliber or this Avenger with the Woodstock for 430. They both seem like awesome guns
Thanks a lot for the information break down. I was wondering mainly the difference between .177 and .22 and you helped me decide on the .22. I'm moving toward possibly getting a PCP instead of just trying to keep using my Gamo pellet rifle. I have a few questions. I'm hunting yard vandalizing varmints, so they're always at different distances. A target scope isn't cutting it for me. I have a pellet gun with a few different brands of 2nd focal plane scopes and I think they're keeping me from getting the accuracy I need. I think it's because I have a very hard time keeping my eye in a place that keeps the cross hairs in the right place. First I have to move my eye closer to the eyepiece to eliminate the field of view donut than is comfortable for me. I think I need to get a scope that has extra long eye relief. If I move my eye up with the rifle held still the cross moves up. Same for moving my eye down and right and left. Anyway am missing something about eye placement or will a first focal plane scope solve those issue for me? Thanks again.

@@kenroman777 Depends. If you don't mind them flopping around the head shot works. But if you want a nice clean no drama shot you might want a double lunger or a brain stem shot. This causes minimal to no flopping around.
@@kenroman777 Brain stem you can get from side or rear. At the base of the skull where the brain goes into the spinal column. BTW I notice you're shooting .177. Just be aware a raccoon is a tough animal and a good size. Don't be surprise if you wind up having to give it several follow ups. Just my opinion but .25 is the smallest that the raccoon will show some respect to.

Any time you push the limits of a PCP your O-rings take the brunt of the work , more power the better chance of a leak sooner , it’s the nature of hot rodding these PCP’s .

I bought the wood .25 cal. It has more ooomph. Pigeons do not like it. My only regret is my state only allows .177 and .22 for small game hunting, i have a diana stormrider in .22 cal for that though

.22 cal is NOT king for pesting or medium small game or even punching paper holes. Funny how .177 can take down a deer or wild hog for that matter

This rifle is made to adjust to whatever you shoot.

Isn't the crosman .25 marauder an 8 shot mag incidentally? .22 is boss. And you can shoot .22 premiers for super cheap and stack them.
