    What's up GC Fans! On this episode we finally upgrade the brakes on our Jeep Wrangler TJ Rubicon sitting on 38 inch Milestar tires! The stock brakes were fine - definitely noticed a drop in performance with the larger tires and lift kit, however, after installing this carbon ceramic Powerstop Kit from carparts.com, we can never go back! They install really easily, anyone can do it with the help of this video! Be sure to check out all of our other videos and subscribe to our channel! We built this TJ from the ground up and documented each and every single upgrade from the lift kit, to the one ton steering, driveshafts, PCM, etc - all the videos are on our channel!

    Greg, The tool you used to open the brake caliper is the tightening end of a set of pipe clamps that are used but carpenters.

  • @moabwheeling1305
    @moabwheeling1305 3 роки тому +2

    Hey guys , Greg that clamp you used to push the brake caliper pistons in is actually a pipe clamp . The one end should be threaded to screw in a metal or galvanized pipe into . You can buy whatever length of pipe you want to make up your pipe clamp . Great job on the brakes and I'm looking forward to your review of them . I just received my Powerstop brakes but wont be installing them until next spring when I finish up a ton of upgrades to the steering and suspension on my TJ .Until next time take care and be safe guys.

    That clamp is the working end of a pipe clamp. Woodworkers use them. You can ideally can add any length of pipe to extend the reach of what you need to clamp. My clamp for brake jobs were from Harbor Freight.

    For pushing your caliper in it is easier to open the bleeder valve slightly then close it when done. After installing then open bleeder valve again and let it drip until dripping is consistent then close. This removes the air. Repeat all corners and pump brake pedal until firm. Done

    Great vid. I replaced all mine last year on my jk with power stop rotors and pads. I had never done it before, was very easy. However, I must have created a small amount of air in my brake lines cause at times when I hit the brakes hard to avoid a deer, my jeep wouldn't stop, had to pump my brakes. So I took the jeep in to have the lines bled and no problems since. However, I do not notice any difference in stopping power but at least it's new lol.

      That's cool! Yeah, we did our brake fluid before this job so we didn't have to redo! Cool!

  • @djdwiz1654
    @djdwiz1654 3 роки тому +1

    I did Powerstop brake kit a few years back and it makes for a great stock replacement but as far as it being a performance upgrade, not so much. Rotors and calipers are no bigger than stock. Big Brake kits are redundant unless you upgrade brake booster, reservoir & master cylinder. Otherwise you're just pushing the same volume of brake fluid through your system which doesn't provide the pressure needed for more braking power.

      Made a noticeable difference on our TJ! We ran a couple of tests before and after and it stops noticeable sooner.

    Not trying to be a armchair quarterback but your spacers should have red locktite on the studs. Mine came with locktite and it took heat to remove them when I did my brake upgrade no impact or breaker bar would remove nuts without heating with torch. I enjoy ur videos want to make sure you guys are safe.

    • @Garagecouple

      Appreciate you and your comment! Although the red loctight is a good idea, it's not required If the lugs are torqued (and checked) appropriately. We routinely check ours at least every oil change :) have never had any issues with 100s of thousands of miles on them and no loc tight

    Hey guys, Great job on the brakes! I enjoy watching all your videos and was surprised to see this one today as I'm looking at doing mine for the first time on my '06 and was just curious on why you didn't need to bleed the brakes. I am seeing some sites saying that you need to do this every time you change the pads, and other saying that you don't need to unless you experience soft brakes. Hoping you can help clear up my confusion.

    I run those same brakes and rotors on my TJ with 35s - they work great! I've heard Black Magic Brakes are even better; but they cost quite a bit more (and being in Canada; shipping was insane!). Also, it's SO NICE to have rear rotors. I have drums on mine and I HATE working on them!

    Tell Greg he did it wrong😢 where do I start before you put new clips on wire brush everything.🎉❤ did you notice on the box if it said left or right for the rotors❤ I think they are directional if you look what way the slits are on the rotors now check the front and back to see if it’s the same direction. On the same side And the brake cleaner is because the rotors have a protective coating . Clean all that off or they could get glazed❤
