How many 2 cost aspect cards do you need to justify using the power of resource cards and do you ever just use 1?
@@JDS8515 my number is usually 7 and 9. That’s where I look at taking 1 and 2 respectively. Then depending on how the hero’s economy is in general I might include two at lower numbers. Like Wasp’s economy is so bad so I take 2 with her at 7, but with someone like Scarlet Witch I might be less inclined to use more than one unless I had a ton of expensive aspect cards.
Also with any hero that values wild resources like Venom, Nova, or Miles I might be more willing to include 2 even if my aspect cost isn’t super high just because they can make good use of them to hit their kickers
This is exactly what I do when I get a new hero. I play a few games with the Precon, and then immediately follow these exact steps! I totally agree that the Precon decks are deceptively good (in fact a few are just straight up strong), and it really does not take much to make them strong enough to take on a lot of villains on Expert.
That’s so good to hear! Every time I make a video like this it’s such a relief when someone else says “that’s what I do” lol. Always good to know I’m not way off base 😂😂
And yeah they’ve really struck a good balance with making the decks pretty solid despite shoving in a few oddballs or useless extras. Except for Ms Marvel lol. I started recording one with her as an example of a less good one and I kept pretty much rebuilding it 😆😆

Oh thank you so much! Funnily enough, ideas aren’t the problem lol. I’ve got a list pretty long of videos I want to make. The real problem is not having nearly enough time to make them, and then on top of that I get sidetracked by ideas like this that were inspired by a conversation in Discord yesterday and then that’s just one more video on the list that won’t get made yet 😅

I have to say I really enjoy your content. Both for the content itself but also the delivery.
LCG (and TCG/CCG) folks can often have pretty toxic, somewhat narcissistic behavior that pushes people away (I stepped away from Marvel Champions for a while due to this), but you roped me back in. I appreciate when you give options vs “this is optimal and if you do otherwise you are suboptimal and bad”. I had previously hated deck building because it felt like any option was wrong.
Long story short, thanks for the good content. Marvel Champions has long been in my top 10 but I had only played a handful of times in the last year before stumbling upon your channel.

Yeah I definitely try not to say anything too definitively. Or at the very least try to make it very clear that I’m only stating my opinions. Honestly I was nervous people might take that as too wishy washy, but I don’t think I know any better than anyone else so for me it’s more about just suggesting what works for me or what I enjoy. And I have my mind changed on things all the time lol so it’s probably best I don’t take a hard line on too many things 😆

Great video for new players. As a veteran player I already use 1 and 2 but I have never considered 3. It is very important so thank you for making us aware.

Great video Josh! I actually like playing with the precons a lot. But your right about having too many of some cards in these decks. I’ve been playing where you have to keep at least 1 copy of the aspect and basic precon cards in the deck and then fill out the rest of the deck with cards from the collection. I call it Advanced Precon (AP decks). Looking forward to more videos!

Nice! Advanced Precons, I like that! I think that’s a great way to do it. Everyone should always try the new cards at least once. Even if a card doesn’t look good, the can often surprise you once you start playing with them. Precision Strike was like that for me. I didn’t think healing 2 was really a big deal but after using it I actually really like that card
You've described exactly my thought process when playing heroes for the first time hehe. I always start doing the same things you explained here. Then, after playing a few times with those little modifications, I go hard into deck building (changing aspects and everything).
*Side note: from the Mutant Genesis cycle I think that Colossus comes with the worst precon deck. Also, I think that he desperately needs cards generating "tough" statuses in other aspects than protection. Sadly, there aren't (which make him almost unplayable in those aspects imo). I even have considered "Invulnerability" for his deck, which speaks highly of how desperate I am for making him work outside protection.

I completely agree about Colossus. And I have seen people using Invulnerability lol so it’s definitely a thing people are doing! The nice thing about it is it is a superpower so Deft Focus helps make it a little cheaper. Still not great though 😅

This is great advice but I'm a sucker for aggression lmao. My favourite decisions I've ever made so far were swapping Black Widow and Gambit to aggression decks. They are so much fun in aggression.
Haha oh of course! I was trying to keep it to as few changes as possible but I’m all for changing out the whole color lol. I actually started out trying to film the video with the Ms Marvel precon and I just couldn’t do it without switching it to Justice so I gave up and went to Rogue instead 😆
What i would find useful is a list of the most useful cards for general building, and what sets i would need multiple of in order to have them in multiple of my decks simultaneously.
That would be a really fascinating exercise to try to undertake! As soon as I started to consider it I realized it’s a lot harder than it sounds at first though. It sort of depends on how many decks a person is wanting to keep built at the same time. For example, the card Limitless Stamina alone wants to be in She Hulk, Hulk, Thor, Drax, and Colossus, so that’s 5 extra copies of the Sp//dr pack.
Wasp is another one to get a bunch of because of the Ironheart ally as well as the Power In All of Us and Quincarrier. You can use those in tons of decks
Clear The Area is probably the best Justice threat removal card (for solo anyways) and that’s only found in the Rise of the Red Skull campaign expansion. Not sure how many of those a person wants to snag lol
Which brings up another interesting consideration: how many players are these decks for? Cause if they’re for 4 player games then you probably wouldn’t want any copies of Clear the Area in any decks
All that being said, I love this idea and I’ll try to explore it when I get back from my hiatus (just had a baby). In the meantime if you can give me your specific situation I’ll see if I can come up with a good list for you!
How many decks are you wanting to have built at a time? And for what player count would these decks be playing in?
@@GetUpandGame maybe proxying the most used card copies is the better way to go then.
@@Roufus55 I think so. If you want to have a lot of well tuned deck built at the same time there just aren’t enough copies of the top tier cards to go around. They do reprint cards occasionally but for some reason they pick the oddest cards to reprint and rarely give us extra copies of the best ones. We did get another round of Endurance and One Way or another which was nice, but I have way too many extra copies of cards I already wasn’t using lol

Would you recommend adding Rogue in order to grow and X-Men collection?
MG expansion is my next box buy and I’ll be getting Wolverine’s hp.
Basically, which two X-Men hero packs would you recommend to build quality decks for X-Men/Force?
Basically I don’t want to, nor feel the need to buy every expansion and pack in order to match all traits and teams. I wouldn’t play all of the heroes. I’d rather buy an expansion, then build with hero packs and behind the pre-com deck cards.

@@GetUpandGame I added Rogue. I’m content complete with exclusion of Ice Man. I haven’t played since early Spring. I did 6 months straight so many times a week, and want to avoid burn-out.

Honestly I don’t think I’ve played since a couple games when ice man first came out, though it’s more out of lack of time for me than anything. I was hoping to be getting less busy by now but unfortunately it seems to be the opposite 😅

Played with a new player not long ago and the others downside to the packs are they are... confusing for new players.
When we played I noticed he was using more than one aspect! After correcting him he of course said "but adam warlock..."
And I had to say yes but he's an exception, and if you look at the alter ego it kind of tells you that.
He understood afterwards, but it's not exactly great to include aspects for the hero they cant use. He also didn't understand how shadow of the past worked so he just didn't play with it.
Yeah I can see that. It’s tricky. They want to make the precons both a way into the game for new players, but also a way to just inject new cards into the pool for people who just want new cards. I think for the most part it works rather well (and its been very successful), but there are certainly downsides to it, like what you mentioned

There is also an insert in each hero pack that separates the precon and the extra cards. It explicitly says that the cards separated are not part of the precon deck

I like her in protection the best because it’s so easy to recycle Ever Vigilant, plus Jocasta can get your Bulletproof Belle back for one more use and I love that card. I found a deck that does that plus uses Repurpose as well. Looks like a ton of fun to me but I haven’t gotten to try it yet. Maybe this will be more to your liking! 😊

It's funny, i don't actually like allies. In my experience they come out, get an activation, and then die defending.
Haha yep that’s what they do! And weirdly that’s just about the most efficient use of cards in the game. But I hear what you’re saying and you’re not alone. There are definitely many players that prefer not to lean on allies for that very reason 👍
I think you should include exactly as many X-gene like cards as you expect the number of players. A 1 resource cost permanent resource gain is too powerful. Obviously you should coordinate this with your players, I play mostly duos and have found it useful to always have 2 of these (assuming different types like this and ingenuity) first for me, second for partner...
That’s a great point! If it’s a card that you’re allowed to pass out and others can make good use of it then it doesn’t hurt to keep it in 👍
Yeah and some cards like X-gene don't even allow you to play them for other players 😕
