  • Slamming the K20z3 50° VTC cam gear into my K24a! This is another must-have upgrade to adjust as much ignition timing as possible in your 2.4. More adjustment means mo-powa and if you're wanting to squeeze every little bit you can for cheap... this is what you want.

    Dude, when you pulled out the 15/16, we already knew you haven't done this before and were very drunk, not buzzed! :P

    Not sure if this is true or not. I have heard several others say that the vtc gear should really be tourqed down while in the unlocked position (notch on gear set slightly clockwise as shown) then locked afterward. This is apparently to reduce strain on the internals of the gear. Just thought this was worth noting

      Yeah, you're right. I was backwards. I will say the car is doing fine as it is, but I definitely want update that in future for another video

      It’s true, as a dealer technician I confirm it’s true, it should be torqued at 84 ft pound while unlocked.

    So you are not running a mechanical 40° stop? I hear that k24 will run into clearance issues past 45°

    Much easier to torque something like that by opposing the wrenches by a small amount so that you create a push/pull in the same plane.

    Is this good enough or drag cartel gives you more or the same degree or it’s all just hype with the cartel

    So you guys think that honda engineers made a big mistake by Installing 25 degree vtc rather than 50 degree vtc .in k24 rbb motor. So now you are correcting it.????

      @@theknytshift6981 haha ,but how it's possible that I beat 50 degree vtc k24 from my 25 degree vtc. K24.

    • @theknytshift6981
      @theknytshift6981  Місяць тому

      All the 50° does is allow for a wider ignition timing range. If you're going to stay n/a and use an RBC manifold, it's worth it to change. If you're staying stock RBB manifold, it doesn't make much of a difference, but sets the engine up for better tuning capabilities in the future.

    So you unlocked the vtc with compressed air, torque it down, and then lock it back? Where do you put the air to do that?

    • @theknytshift6981
      @theknytshift6981  Рік тому +1

      Sorry for the late reply! You have to put the compressed air into the hole on the camshaft behind the gear

    Does timing need to be adjusted to the 50 degree cam gear or timing could stay the same, also doing this with oil pump

    • @theknytshift6981
      @theknytshift6981  2 роки тому +3

      No sir! Timing is the same across the board. Your ignition timing is controlled electronically. I loaded a k20a2 basemap until I get a fine tune, therefore, the 50 degree is set up like a factory k20a2. It never reaches anywhere close to 50 degrees of timing on the basemap, so you're safe!

    • @slumpedmage
      @slumpedmage Рік тому +1

      So, to clarify, the 50 degree gear is safe on K24A2? It's much cheaper than the 45 degree gear. Just gotta make sure the tune is set to factory K20A2 on an RSX ECU? Thanks man.

All we did was, 50degree cam gear swap on k24a, rsx oil pump, exedy clutch and 9lb flywheel, motor mounts all around, we loaded up a tsxt basemap tune and still on limp mode, takes quite a while to start, has a z3 starter, stock injectors, rbc any other info u need to know in order to help lmk, thanks in advanced:)

      @michaelmiller7937 been driving it for almost a full year now and can confirm it's safe! On a the stock, k20a2 RSX basemap, at that. It'll be tuned soon and I'll be sure to do a video showing results!

      @theknytshift6981  Рік тому

      @brayancortez3212 I wouldn't know 100% on yours, but my car did not like the TSX tune. For some reason, the stock k20a2 tune is what I had to use to get it run decently. I'd say to double check your parameters in Hondata and see if a step got missed.

  • @bobbydelamar606

    I'm fixing to do this on my 1989 CRX K24A2. Along with the Type S oil pump and oil cooler. How would you tune this with Hondata?

      I loaded a factory k20a2 rsx basemap due to my ECU being a PRB(RSX). It's the best running basemap for the K series I've found so far. My k24a is running great on it.
