A video with a build list for a 300, 400, 500 HP K-series would be good, just talking through the parts what to buy what to avoid and all that.
ill see what we work on this year and ill make videos of it
Boost a stock motor
Yea that’s what I’ve been looking for but no one on UA-cam makes simple how Yi’s for dummies like us lol
@@taraishot100 Humble Performance has a bunch of Boosted Stock K-Series videos.
Agreed
JRoc is such a legend. I noticed how much more appreciative Sonic and the boys are of Jroc the last few months. The love is real.
we love Jroc!!
@@sonic_203 very lucky to have such a knowledgeable tech.
Big facts he’s great ppl
I have never seen any 2 people more excited about building a k series that these guys, and I'm glad I found this video. I'm building my 1st k series, a k24a1, and I got an RBB-3 head for it. I took the valvetrain out and all the pins n springs fell out just like he said. I'm going to put a type s oil pump on it too. lucky for me I don't have to cut it.
How’d the build turn out?
@@ssjdavidah yes a 2JZ is a simple build. Big brains on ya.
Being able to lock the cams at tdc is such a plus. It’s such well built motor.
agree!!!
B you can to theres a hole on the top of the cam rocker
Hell yea '06 tsx k24 owner here ,loved this ! K-powwa! It's the way to go.
I just got a fg2 there's alot of misinformation on a k24 swap. This video was direct and clear. I personally appreciate Jroc and Sonic dropping knowledge. Real g's
anytime!
Just want to say much love for opening the door to all the knowledge you learned through trial and error! That’s real! Bless 👌🏼🙏🏼
My favorite and only video on youtube right now! no emotional long talkings, no homophobic sensitivity and no sponsorship/merch like type begs. Str8 to the point with details to the T and i's. Great job Jroc and sonic grateful with thanks!
thanks bro
What are you going on about 😂 who offended you
cleaning valves..
Drill & bench grinder with wire wheel
Put the valve into the drill and and spin up while hitting the wire wheel. You will see if a valve is bent and they’ll clean like new
The later tsx engines burning more oil has to be a change in valve seal material because they ALL have bad valve seals. If you are getting the seals replaced anyway, any year SHOULD be ok. With everything you did to this engine, literally just about any K series will be safe. Great video and it really is very informative.
Doing this exact set up now with a jdm k24a in a ep3
Let me know how it turns out please, just bought same engine but i beleive PPA head will need a v-tech killer, i might end up ussing a ported K20 head with all these parts on the vid. Good luck with your built!
Gentlemen, great job at providing a KISS method for was us wannabes! Looking forward to your blueprint method for a 300hp NA build!
87.5mm bore 12.5 compression 3.2 or 4.0 DC OG
do this add a k20 head 300whp
@@timscheuermann2554 on my list - thanks!
260 is really good for how light the car is.
My Connecticut-based race team is investigating a K24 swap into our E30. This seems like a perfect build. Thanks for the great video!
Just found out my crankshaft is doinked. Fantastic video at just the right time. Don't repair, upgrade! Thanks guys. *SUBSCRIBED*
I'm freaking impressed with y'alls shop! Can tell work gets done and aint nothing sloppy. Everything off the cars looks wrapped up. Even the seams around the base of the lifts and base of the work benches free of oil scum. Even school wasn't that clean!
Well needed video for so many ppl. Thanks fellas 👌🏼🙌🏻
i think this is the best video you’ve ever made lol… loved watching this
appreciate it
Jroc asked how the valves are cleaned. At my old cylinder head shop we used a tumbler that used pea sized shot with kerosene. The valves came out as nice as new every time, ready to have a new face and tip cut. We'd also throw the springs, retainers and keeper in with them. The keepers were put inside something we called an "egg" that was basically two PVC caps that screwed together, with small holes drilled all over it to allow the kerosene in.
Super sick! I do the valve adjustment on my S2K. The previous owner had the number 4 cylinder exhaust too tight and it burned up the intake side valves. Very costly. It's important to make sure it's correct. Good Stuff!
Valve adjustments are KEY!!
Wow this is so great to listen to you guys share what you know. I'm 18 and have been learning about how to build since I was 11. Thank you SO MUCH. Subscribed :)
Why do they burn oil? What’s a good bearing, bolt and ring kit for your pistons if you’re going to refresh your rotating assembly?
You want the 06-08 TSX block because its hands down the better block. Better crankcase ventilation, under piston oil squirters, better aggressive cams, the strongest OEM connecting rods.
You not rambling Sonic if you giving us all GEMS. Thanks. Don’t know K’s like I do the B and D’s so videos like THIS a huge help. Please make more videos like this.
appreciate it
@@sonic_203 Bro, I had a quick question? I tried to find the tear down video of THIS engine. Because you say about not buying aftermarket valve keepers. To use oem Honda keepers instead. Long story short my K20a2 I bought dual springs and titanium retainers for . Dude that made the kit say you need Aftermarket keepers for kit. Can I use my stock keepers and be fine? My K 20a2 a later one w/o factory dual springs. Thanks Bro in advance. Peace
It was mentioned that these engines all burn oil but especially the 04' and 05' models.
I noticed my 04' uses between about 1.5 quarts every 5,000 miles.
Is this a normal amount?
And why do these engines specifically burn oil?
Im new to the k series scene (a little late to the party lol) but i love the daily driving performance potential of them.
That magnet trick is nice, Jroc is a gat 🤘🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻
24:21 stuff like those dark lines, like the one above that bolt hole in-between the two camshaft ends, always scares me thinking there's a crack lol
Have an 04 tsx, and I can't figure out why, but it doesn't burn ANY oil. 185k And I drive it hard sometimes, but nothing.
185k miles and still feels like a new car.
I just bought a nice Honda accord with a K24! Nice engine pulls the car plenty good enough and gets 25-30 mpg! I like it!
Your accord has the low power k24, 160hp. The one you want is 205hp stock from the Acura tsx or 12+ civic si
We have and are absolutely doing this at home and in the street. Also, little known fact, when you put the VTC solenoid in the engine is supposed to go "hooyeeeea"
Assembly videos are satisfying to watch.
This stock compression? No milling of the head or porting? and power to wheels on what fuel?
Super helpful and informative, tryin to get my 05 k24a2 past 250 hp out here in Cali, this helps a lot for a home garage newbie like me.
Thanks for making this video. Can you show us how to build a 300 HP k20z3 head on a k24a2 block?
Hey guys, I have a fa5. My build is identical except i have a k20z3 head and dc 2.2s. Hoping to hit 12s on the drag strip.
Would you guys recommend a short final drive (5.06 or spoon 5.1) with a 260 whp on a street car?
I don’t do much highway driving. Mostly mountain roads.
Thoughts?
Why does the 04 burn more oil? First time viewer, I love how you made sure to teach us inexperienced viewers. Absolute goldmine of information. Thank you!
Some of the best Honda content on youtube
You guys should do a 280, 300, 320 or more. Those was very interesting! Please continue this type of video.
ill try too
@@sonic_203 quick question why and automatic k24.
@@Simpleman1078 the automatics are not abused like the
manual cars
@@kevinortiz3274 makes sense
What about k24a1?? Would it be lot less hp?? 🤔
👍👍 Very nice video y'all! I love how you share your experiences with us and your attention to detail is no other K build I have ever seen! Keep up the great work!
Love the videos for the common K-man. Building my JDM k24a2 for my Honda Element swap.
That magnet tip is top tier!🔥
Jroc is a legend man, love this content
Super dope video! I've literally been wanting a video like this from you guys. showing a little bit more of the behind the scenes motor build...I've gotten k fever since I've been watching y'all..hope to get into one soon. Much love 😎🤙
appreciate you
Jroc be killing it. Sonic keep it up bro. Y’all doing great 🙌
thanks bro
Great video. I'm doing Type S oil pump on my K24A2 CRX right now. I also have the Drag Cartel 45 deg vtc.
I have a jdm k24A I also wanna upgrade my vtc. Should I go .45 like your set up or 50 degree vtc?
@TheMrmagic101 I've heard of many people doing the 50 deg and it being okay. I wanted to be safer and go with 45 deg. In case something happens with the timing. I've read the K24A2 doesn't use much timing past 40 deg anyway...? Stock is a 25 deg vtc.
@@TheMrmagic101 Definitely do the Type S oil pump. I got mine done with the whole kit from KPower. I was lazy and didn't want to notch the pump. They do it for you.
@@bobbydelamar606 ok I do plan on raising my redline and having the head built to do so
@TheMrmagic101 I'd like to build my head as well, but I'm just gonna enjoy it while I save. I'm guessing a good redline with the Type S pump is around 8k?
I just ordered some psi valve springs and retainers from 4p and they recommended ferrea keepers for my stock valves....
that CR-V at 11:11 has some super rare OEM side cladding on it! sells for $800 on ebay and u cant even find one for sale!
Never seen or heard of this channel but it was in my recommended. Looks like the algorithm is actually working right and gave me a new channel and video that it knew I’d like. Love the connection between you and the jrod or jroc homie and when you find that natural combination it makes for a tree at channel! Keep up the quality and keep the content flowing homies. Much love from California 🎊 ❤🎉😂
If you mainly watch popular and famous channels and videos then it will recommend more of that to you and it makes UA-cam more money by getting the videos more views and advertisements that companies pay to have UA-cam out on their videos and it keep UA-cam, a business on their feet and pay their employees
I got a jdm k24a rbb2 and I swear I remember when I was changing the springs and retainers to supertech I ran into the issue that the stock keepers didn’t fit. I had to use the supertech keepers.
they fit
This dude j rock is special. He makes it look easy
I couldn’t imagine how fun that would be in the e.g.
spinning the tires 1-3rd lol
Loved the video, thank you guys for doing this. I have a K24a2 from a '07 TSX that I have on the stand for my '82 E21, this build is primarily for auto cross/ road racing. Bought the KPower rwd conversion kit and just need a clutch kit and drive line. For the engine though, I have done nothing to it yet and will follow along with what the video showed to do.
All swaps in even with e30 kit? I have a 78 e21 I want to do it to
I thought about rebuilding my z3 i just got a rodknock u guys might have convinced me to do a 08 k24a2 swapp awesome video 👏
Man sonic and his crew are the best with Hondas. I love the way his filming is progressing absolutely 💯 fire with the whole engine build
thanks man
It’s important to clean the cams with a solvent like brake cleaner before installing. There coated in a rust proofing that can prevent oil from making proper contact
Keep grinding my bro yktv 🔥🗽
Always
Jroc is the shit. I wanna be like him when i grow up.
Giving all the tips and tricks
Lets see the difference in a ported head
I can’t wait to have a K
Lengthy video this was
Yo love the vids
🦓
thanks bro
Loving this guys voice.
The closeup of the work reminds me of Tommy's videos. Good shit, def needs to be 100k+ subs
appreciate you
8:40 I've always wanted to strip and rebuild an entire engine only using an impact, would be a fun little experiment to see if it works (or how much you ruin)
Great video, thanks for drop those gems. I’ll be trying to do something similar here soon
keep it up bro love your videos and all the education that’s in them
thanks
JRoc got those quite professional type vibes
Reason why breaking the head bolts by hand and in sequence because it’ll prevent the head from warping
It’s crazy I’m just finding out about this channel !! So dope and you guys are Connecticut definitely need my motor rebuilt !!
thank you!
Thanks for the video guys. Been debating on either an LS swap or a K swap for my Volvo, this video helps tremendously.
Excellent video look forward to seeing more.
I've had 04-05 and 06-08 k24a2 motors and beat on both of them never noticed the oil burning in the 04-05 at all.. the 06-08 has the nicer intake cam and bigger intake valve but no oil burning issues in the first gen ...
if you get lucky you'll get a good one
Why not to use the Drag Cartel 2.2?? 3.2 with original head setup and k24 cannot shine I guess. What is your opinion?
Great video guys thanks, love the attention to detail, so important when you are building a reliable, strong engine 👊🏻
Thank you!
i like you guys. nice dry humor. Love the knowledge you are sharing. Ill sub for sure and use all the videos you put up to help me with my build next year. I want to try and find a good specimen of a 1995 civic hatchback with power windows and sunroof, A\C and power steering, then swap in an engine like the one you are doing in this video. What a fun car to drive it would be! Definately doing crazy subs! I am planning for my midlife crisis car lMAO
I love jroc too 😢❤.
Jroc is the man!
I used rubber bands for my rockers. Just don't leave them for a long time or the oil impregnates them and they break apart.
All those blue hatches is one shop. Was just scoping the backround. Im new here. New sub. Great content so far. Thanks
Sonic should be for SBP blue
The best part of the video is how you all break the bolts loose by hand and not an impact gun!
You guys would def be the place id take a honda motor to get built
Why preferably automatic? Is it because less chance of it being ran hard?
Maybe use paper towels for that magnet trick, just incase it does crack. Brilliant trick btw! Ill definitely remember that one lol
I used to have a DC5 but now I have a TL type S that I daily and I really like the sound of the J series but the K series sounds great. Lots of people like the B which I think has a louder crossover sound.
My son recently bought a 91 MR2 that was K swapped, it's one of those Frankenstein builds I think with a K24 bottom and a K20 top end and of course a six speed. I don't know wtf is going on with the trans but it's the sloppiest manual trans I've ever driven in my life, and I've driven lots of em. I don't know if it's just the shifter or...? Anyway it's set up for the track, has Wilwood brakes bigass tires, it's twitchy af and also stupid fast without any boost ( yet ) Just discovered y'alls channel n you got a new sub ✌
Love from Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing the pro tips
Nice build man I've would like to know the money spent on this build. Sick man keep it up
Dam bro that’s love…… thanks for sharing your skills 👊🏽
Yo jroc wrenched it like a pro👌
hes awsome!
Yeah imma def need that tool to lock the cams in place
Subscribed crazy those k's put down j series numbers with a few mods
Nothing but love in this vid fr
How much you guys charge
For this build? Did you guys find the motor for him too? I’m interested in the same build
Dope build, think I'm gonna do one up for my s2!
Guys I have a question? You say Drag Cartels are the best.
I wanna get the 3.2 but don’t know if it’ll work for my setup or do I go with 4’s?
K24k20 , rods pistons PRC oil pump , 52mm itbs , 560cc evo injectors , e50 (also wanna buy a tri y header - plm 3” exit)
Please if you could guide me 🙏
Nice work. Ida paimted my block black or gold.
Love the channel you guys rock 💯👍👍👍🇵🇷
I like da magnet trick dem zipsnties took me like 40 min 2 put on
lmao me too!!!
Can you make a boost series similar to this? Like what all is needed for a 300/400/500 supercharged/turbo K? I'm putting together a supercharged K24 and pretty severely overwhelmed lol.
Sup from Costa Rica you already know. 🔥 Content
thanks
is this build for a manual or automatic? at 2 min you say to use an automatic engine/transmission and at 32:19 you say that you have a clutch kit coming? sorry for the questions i am trying to learn and follow along! if anybody in the comments sees this and can answer my question that would be dope!
what about a b series allmotor build....eons ago i did a b series made about 230-240 12.5 to 1 compression and jun stage 3 cams, skunk 2 intake ported to a90 mm throttle body on 93 stock bore and stroke. manley bottom end turbo tuf rods JE pistons jun valvetrain id love to see a cray b series pump gas. e85 and race gas build
not sure when we would build a b series, its just dollar for dollar you can get the k series to make the same power for cheaper!
@@sonic_203 I can’t comment price on my build. It was done maybe in 2001 after my 98 ITR was stolen. That made 207 with bolt ons. The high compression build was a sponsor funded effort by Manley Performance. I know people there and live minutes away. I’d love to build one with ITBs now. But finding a decent hatch these days is impossible and you buy them all.
