18:30 that's what I'm saying I never understood why Qui Gon used form 4. I assumed it was because he was heavily in tune with the force and form 4 was all about letting the force take control which was good for older and less nimble jedi like Yoda but he had much to big of a stature to use it effectively enough to fight a force wielding opponent.
People dunk on the Clone Wars movie a lot, and while it absolutely deserves a lot of that, it also has lots of really cool details that are quite nice, like how both it and the rest of the Clone Wars series would pay really close attention to forms of Lightsaber combat and would apply them in really clever ways, like you mentioned with how Ahsoka uses Form 5 at one point but gets defeated because Form 5 is a poor fit for her. It's great stuff and part of the reason why TCW has gone down as one of the most beloved pieces of Star Wars media of all time.
@@GenerationTech definitely could be the case, but I'm glad that didn't deter production because we got some of the best content in Star Wars from TCW, especially fights. That show really did care about making lightsaber forms matter, more than a lot of people probably realize. Such a good show, always grateful that we got Ahsoka from it
Togruta also have a form of 'echo-location', via the head montrals. In the fight with the Trandoshan boss, Ahsoka knew roughly where he was, due the sounds he was making (breathing, footsteps, etc), and was able to defeat him, despite her having no weapons.
ive always enjoyed seeing ahsoka fight. in games i always play the light skirmisher, always on the move, always mixing it up where appropriate, while still having my own baseline plan and patterns to draw from. seeing ahsoka in action i get to see just how fun that is without the stress of it. its a very hard style to master, but it has immense payoffs. Plus its nice seeing things from the victims POV sometimes

As a guitar player and writer I totally got the musician thing as when recording a songs I have often just jammed the solo and in those moments very often something takes over and I surrender to the music and out of it I play and come up with a solo I would never have done had I thought to much about it. It is like I become one with the song in the same way that in those moments that Jedi in duels suddenly become one with the force. Thanks for that analogy. Alongside Star Wars theory you are my go to choice for informed Star Wars contents.
Ahsoka is lightside most of the time but she regularly uses her anger and rage in combat which is tapping into the darkside. Ahsoka won't force choke you but she will tear the thoughts from your mind.
actually that is incorrect. the Jedi doctrun claims that emotions=darkside but in truth it has little to do with emotion and everything to do with mentality. when Ahsoka is "angry" in combat she's not tapping into the darkside (i personally think she is physically incapable of it since The Daughter resurrected her) as that anger never turns to pure rage. she never looses sight of her goal and, when facing organic opponents, shows restraint. tapping into the dark side isn't using emotion, its surrendering to it. Ahsoka has lived and experienced. being still relatively young when she left the order and went into hiding post order 66 she had an oppertunity that few Jedi get in life. to live. she learned to regulate and control her emotions, rather than suppress them and get overwhelmed when they surface. granted she isn't a master at it, but who can truely say they have mastered their emotions. Kit Fisto is another example of a Jedi who is emotionally driven in combat. he actively relishes the thrill, but never surrenders to it. Ahsoka is the same. she loves a good fight, but knows when to stay her blade. by contrast, when one is overwhelmed and surrenders to their emotions they are no longer in control. the darkside clouds their judgment and they become puppets, slave to their "intrusive thoughts".
Ashoka is turning out to be not just Jedi but overall one of the greatest force wielders and lightsaber duelists of the entire mythos...just the fact that that she go toe to toe with Vader, injure him and not get killed (beside that crap Ezra pulled) by Vader says a lot. Being one of the apprentices of the chosen one himself, shares some type of soul bond or could be a re incarnation of the Daughter. Veteran of the clone wars and the galactic civil war, student and child of the old Jedi order..she better have an amazing death to wrap up her story one day
It would awesome to see Omega too, from the bad batch. Like an adult Omega. Frankie Adamas wuo palayes Draper in The sci-fi The Expanse. She would make all clones look like toddlers.
I might, if we're going with Expanse actors, lean towards Cara Gee (Camina); Omega doesn't seem to be going towards the bulky side, and I think leaning towards Camina instead of Draper works with how she's developed thus far in BB.
Fighting forms is why I immediately knew Sabine would lose. Her guard signaled Form I while Shin had the ready stance of Form II (like Count Dooku), specifically tailored to beat Form I adversaries.
The thing with the deaths of all those Nimaan users is that they did it wrong…Form VI is a jack of all trades that can be easily combined with other techniques. If you were to now sprinkle in Form III defensive manoeuvres into the well rounded Form VI you suddenly have a style that works well against blaster fire and lightsabers alike. The Jedi in the Arena used a jack of all trades, master of none, without compensating for that weakness.
Ahsoka is an exotic Jedi with influence from many masters, who also happen to be the top notch of their era in one way or another. Ahsoka has Koon's tranquil and strong sensitivity to the flow of the Force, she has Obi-Wan's pacifism and Anakin's steadfast will and quick thinking when being contested. But she somewhat acts on her own accord (or should we say that she was guided only by her mind and the Force), something very common among mavericks like master Jinn.
I think by the time of the Ashoka series she uses 3 specific forms. The reverse grip variation of form V is the first form she learned, as like you said she wasn’t as physical as Anakin, she took a more defensive approach on the form combining some of form III Soresu principles. This is form V Shien, the more aggressive version of form III, featuring a reverse grip and focusing on absorbing the enemies attacks and delivering fast and heavy counterattacks (the reverse grip favours a more counters focused style), instead of tiring the enemy down as form III would, or overpowering their defences as form V variation Djem So would. During the Clone Wars she started using a more agile and fast style and incorporated a second lightsaber or a Shoto. This is form IV Ataru, and combined with the second lightsaber she would preserve her Shien, increasing her defensive capabilities and counterattacking angles, while implementing the Ataru principles of fast and agile attacks, as using a lightsaber and a shoto allows the Jedi to focus on offence with the large saber and on defence with the shoto. Finally, by the time of Order 66, the purge, Rebels and Ashoka, she would start to practise form II Makashi duelling style. With the Jedi hunt that the Empire would start she started to face a lot of lightsaber users, so she needed to adapt. Implementing form II gives her an advantage on 1v1 against lightsaber users, focusing on precision, footwork and timing. Her decision to start using form II when she was older is pretty clever, as the form needs a mature user with patience, and it also benefits from the use of Dunn Moch, which as you said, she used pretty often. Also her new lightsabers are build to use Makashi, as they feature a curved hilt, seen in Dooku’s lightsaber, that helped deliver more precise and fast swings with minimal effort. It can be seen in her last duels of the Ashoka series, where she used only one lightsaber, grabbing it like a katana.
A good way to bond the two generations of Lucas and Filoni would be making Ahsoka extremely invested in the well being of Luke. Without Luke knowing she is watching over him.
So when the Force took over the Jedi, the best way to fight back is like how Count Dooku taught General Grievous. One must have fear, surprise and intimitdation with them. If one element is lacking, the best course of action is to retreat. Before engaging the Jedi in combat, the Jedi must already be broken by the time such engagement happened. In other words, do not allowed the Jedi to let the Force takeover and forcing them to rely purely on the lightsabers until they can't anymore.
In her last two fights in the Ahsoka series against Baylan and Force Anakin in the World between Worlds plane, she opted for using a single blade in a more grounded Form V dominated approach, I've heard the notion a two handed grip on single blade offers more leverage for a 1 on 1 duel.
@@KyloStimpyThe way Kanan talked about it, it seemed like the Darksaber was not an exception. Weird blade shape, slightly shorter than most, and a really cool color, but functionally almost identical to the lightsabers he and Ezra were using.
Darth Vader is almost always holding back. He loves to toy with his opponents. When Ahsoka got that hit off on Vader, Vader was still in a “capture Ezra Bridger” mindset, which requires him to basically use none of his strength because Ezra was a completely pathetic opponent compared to Vader. Ashoka gets to Vader in a moment where he is distracted, his mindset is “use as little power as necessary”, and the sith temple is activated causing a massive amount of dark side force power to surround them and likely mess with their force senses
They were taught all the forms. Some would apparently focus on a single one, and maybe have a backup one. Ideally, one would borrow from each form and make their own style that both suits their personality and has maximum synergy with their own skills and physique.
Heh. The name for the fighting technique she used during so much of The Clone Wars translates in Galactic Basic Standard as "The way of the glow-fanged Spider-Man". I can't help but think of him when I look at the way she always tumbled, slid, and leapt around like a flea... staying crouched low to the ground and giving sweeping one-handed swings.
Anakin trained her to fight larger opponents. She only hit Vader because his attention was elsewhere. She lost that duel and was in that back foot. The second blade was to makeup for her spotty blaster deflection.
I think one of the reasons Ahsoka was assigned to Anakin was due to her high level force potential. It would make sense that you'd want to pair an apprentice with a master of similar power level so the teachings and expectations would align. My guess is that Ahsoka has a very high ceiling for her abilities.
Okay idk how many times it's gotta be stated, lightsabers have weight, almost as much as any real sword, the blade is just magnetized plasma, it's not literally made of "light" Goerge Lucas has said this, and this representation has been shown in nearly every single media presentation of a lightsaber. It's weighed, it also has an attraction effect to other sabers which is why lightsabers duels have the iconic "saber lock" They also have an awkward sense of movement due to this effect which is partly why there's so many moves involved with spinning, because it's easier to move with the blade than against it, considering the crystals are alive.
I never need to be reminded that Ahsoka was basically trained by Vader. It's so evident in how she fights. Plus that insane agility. She is the coolest Jedi imho.
19:25 I thought that at this point in time Vader/Ani was still getting used to the suit, which is why he was comparatively rigid and reserved in most of his fighting in the Rebels arc with Ahsoka. Is that not the case? Also, at the very end you see Vader seemingly going "all-out" before the curtain closes on his fight with Ahsoka, and his movements are still rigid albeit much more fierce and even exasperated, similarly to the Empire Strikes Back duel where he loses his hand fighting Luke in Cloud City. He was similarly gimped in that fight as well iirc, he wasn't focused given that he was fighting his son whom he still cared for, plus his mask ate a bunch of Carbonite chemicals or whatever earlier in the duel, which seems to have slowed him down during the rest of their fight.
This a bit later on he’s had about 15 years or so in the suit already. But yeah I think anakin was inside of their the entire time especially when fighting Luke or ahsoka people he cared about. I imagine feelings of love and nostalgia weakens a Sith Lord .
@@GenerationTech Thanks for the reply, I forgot that Rebels takes place quite a while after the fall of the Republic! And definitely so, the ultimate crux of the Sith is that their power comes from their emotions right? Vader as part of his meditations was forced to focus his thoughts on the most agonizing moments of his life in order to fuel his pain/hatred iirc? He must've meditated endlessly on the moment that Ahsoka abandoned him as her master, and many other traumatic moments involving the adventures he had with his Padawan during the Clone Wars. That would've made seeing her in person years later all the more shocking!

This. This right here is why this is my fav SW channel. He talks about SW stuff. Fighting styles, government, wars, organizations etc etc. Never is there any crap about the business of SW.....its stuff about the stories, the characters etc etc. Good job Gen tech 👍
I remember finding this channel after taking a hiatus from star was theory , best thing I could’ve done. Love your channel man keep posting please

I think it was just perceived as a money grab it was literally just the first few episodes of you think about it
@@GenerationTech definitely could be the case, but I'm glad that didn't deter production because we got some of the best content in Star Wars from TCW, especially fights. That show really did care about making lightsaber forms matter, more than a lot of people probably realize. Such a good show, always grateful that we got Ahsoka from it
Loved this episode and the breakdown of Ahsoka’s entire life training and achievements
That is deepest, nerdiest dive into any particular character's form I've ever seen, and I think you're pretty spot-on. Thanks for this.
Love your videos many thanks too everyone involved. From your friends across the pond 🇬🇧
Ahsoka to Maul - "You're lucky Anakin isn't here. With the way you're fighting, you wouldn't last long"
Even though now she's most OP, I most enjoyed her fighting in last months of Clone Wars... Just purely attacking non stop and at a fast rate!
The ending was PURfection!
You rock!! Keep pumping out the SW content!!
Seeing an ad with a dolphin come on immediately following one of Allen's videos is cosmic perfection.
The fact that you upload daily is greatly appreciated. I just don't understand how you travel between universes to one where the days are 53 hours long in order to make so many damn videos.
thank you for making star wars content that actually allows people to enjoy star wars and doesn't just shit on Disney star wars
Great vid, love Ashoka. Growing up with the clone wars i shared a lot of life lessons alongside her.
9:22 You forgot about how much Ahsoka’s opponents taught her as well
Hey Alan, I just wanna say over my few years in the Star Wars UA-cam sphere. You (and Eckhearts Ladder) are about the only Star Wars UA-cam I watch anymore. Your analogies and real world comparisons whether it be sports, politics, war, etc. has made me think about Star Wars in a whole new way. I love seeing new uploads and that you keep this passion for your content that I can see in your work.
Funny how an adorable kitty fits in here since Ahsoka is also fast, agile and acrobatic like a cat tends to be (if the cat isn't a lazy bones).
Gen Tech is the best SW UA-camr period
Ahsoka is lightside most of the time but she regularly uses her anger and rage in combat which is tapping into the darkside.
Ahsoka won't force choke you but she will tear the thoughts from your mind.
I mean, she might choke you a little... if you ask nicely.
Ahsoka definitely takes my thoughts 😏
actually that is incorrect. the Jedi doctrun claims that emotions=darkside but in truth it has little to do with emotion and everything to do with mentality. when Ahsoka is "angry" in combat she's not tapping into the darkside (i personally think she is physically incapable of it since The Daughter resurrected her) as that anger never turns to pure rage. she never looses sight of her goal and, when facing organic opponents, shows restraint. tapping into the dark side isn't using emotion, its surrendering to it.
@@Sephiroth144… What?
Is she using Form VII?
If the show doesn't show Rex in live action ill be pissed
Apparently Temuera Morrison filmed some scenes
Appreciate the content and shout out to the editor… you guys are definitely coming with the information on Ahsoka.
In Rebels, Ahsoka uses her acrobatic skills very well. I would say she had effectively infused form 4 into her fighting style.
I absolutely thought I was a subscriber, but when you mentioned it I noticed I wasn't....thanks. Also, always love your incites!
This is great keep up the great work!
lovin all the ahsoka content fr
Ashoka is turning out to be not just Jedi but overall one of the greatest force wielders and lightsaber duelists of the entire mythos...just the fact that that she go toe to toe with Vader, injure him and not get killed (beside that crap Ezra pulled) by Vader says a lot. Being one of the apprentices of the chosen one himself, shares some type of soul bond or could be a re incarnation of the Daughter. Veteran of the clone wars and the galactic civil war, student and child of the old Jedi order..she better have an amazing death to wrap up her story one day
Dude you're a beast. I can tell you're tired. This shit made my day after sloshn in a pit for 7 hrs. Props to your guy too. Your edits are butter.
Great video was thinking about her mixed form and glad someone did a video!
That fight between Ahsoka and Darth Maul is the best ever created in Star Wars.
Great video on one of my favorite Star Wars characters.

Loved the cat at the end of the video!
LOL taht thumbnail is looks like alot of chord progression thumbnails in music theory youtube....
i wonder how iv IV V I sounds XD
Fighting forms is why I immediately knew Sabine would lose. Her guard signaled Form I while Shin had the ready stance of Form II (like Count Dooku), specifically tailored to beat Form I adversaries.
What? Shin Hati uses form V look how she fights and see how Anakin fights it's suprisingly fimiliar
Subscribed! Great video
All techniques, including ones not using the weapon:
Ahsoka is an exotic Jedi with influence from many masters, who also happen to be the top notch of their era in one way or another. Ahsoka has Koon's tranquil and strong sensitivity to the flow of the Force, she has Obi-Wan's pacifism and Anakin's steadfast will and quick thinking when being contested. But she somewhat acts on her own accord (or should we say that she was guided only by her mind and the Force), something very common among mavericks like master Jinn.
2:47 i like what you did with "PADme and his PADawan, Ahsoka"
I really respect your knowledge of star wars. They need to give you guys a shot at a movie over disney no doubt!
Your videos are always so great but this might be the best one because of the kitten at the end
I like Ahsoka's fighting style, it suits her very well
Dude, that kitten rocks
Can we just ponder how goated Ahsoka is that she goes toe-to-toe with the biggest bads, all while using the less effective reverse grip?
Even in Clone Wars, we see her switching when the situation calls for it.
This was great. I learned a ton and you also put some of the canon a bit more into my perspective for me. Thanks.
You know its a good day when generation tech uploads
whomever made this thumbnail is brilliant
My favorite is when she has the traditional grip with her right hand and the reverse grip with the shoto. I hope we see that in this series.
Damn, this was a great analysis. Thanks Alan😊
Great analysis
Pretty sophisticated fighting styles
They are not as exotic as you think. Every jedi builds their skillsets to cement their strengths and circumvent their weaknesses.
She might be one of the most experienced Jedi ever.
Nice Chord Progression
Lightsaber blades do have weight. Kanan Jarrus explicitly said so in Rebels, and Din Djarin mentioned the Darksaber felt heavy.
Those are more mental weight, imo
Darksaber seems to be an exception, probably because it is so old. Sabine said it was heavy too
@@KyloStimpyThe way Kanan talked about it, it seemed like the Darksaber was not an exception. Weird blade shape, slightly shorter than most, and a really cool color, but functionally almost identical to the lightsabers he and Ezra were using.
@@samueldimmock694 i'll have to give it a rewatch.
Your kitten is adorable
VI, IV, V, I… gotta be one of my favorite chord progressions
I agree that Anakin was a great mentor for Ahsoka. They were incredible.
Bro! You are so right about Kenobi's shit talk. Love it.
Awesome video and behind the scenes with the kitten 😊
Ye
The psycho cat looks like a Ventress.
Thanks for the walkthrough, legit
the power of different characters is really convoluted...
They were taught all the forms. Some would apparently focus on a single one, and maybe have a backup one. Ideally, one would borrow from each form and make their own style that both suits their personality and has maximum synergy with their own skills and physique.
She strikes me as a form 6 user by the current series, bringing in all her prvious styles into a fluid system with force attacks
“Diplomat’s Form” maybe not a good label for her variant of form VI.
@@Justanotherconsumer Exar Kun from legends was also a form 6 but taken to an extreme level.
Bring the cat more often please love the videos keep up the good work
Awesome job!
Thank you Sir!
Yo Ill be in Paris on the 6th all the way from NZ. Cant wait, gonna be an awesome tournament
I am subbed and notified, so I cannot assist with that percentage figure
Okay idk how many times it's gotta be stated, lightsabers have weight, almost as much as any real sword, the blade is just magnetized plasma, it's not literally made of "light"
Goerge Lucas has said this, and this representation has been shown in nearly every single media presentation of a lightsaber. It's weighed, it also has an attraction effect to other sabers which is why lightsabers duels have the iconic "saber lock"
They also have an awkward sense of movement due to this effect which is partly why there's so many moves involved with spinning, because it's easier to move with the blade than against it, considering the crystals are alive.
Great summary.
Vader didn't lose a hand on Cloud City....
